Speaker:

Hello, friends.

2

:

This is Judy.

3

:

Welcome to the Creative Spiritual

Journey, where Guy and I walk with

4

:

you for just a moment on this journey

of life and share with you the things

5

:

of our hearts and the joys that

we are discovering along the way.

6

:

We talk of Christ and the beauties

and mysteries of nature in hopes

7

:

to shine some light on your way.

8

:

Our fellow travelers, we love you.

9

:

It's May, and We're coming upon

Memorial Day in the USA, a time

10

:

we gather at our loved ones' grave

sites to decorate with flowers or

11

:

candles to remember and honor them.

12

:

I usually place a heart rock

on my daddy's headstone.

13

:

Traditionally, the President of the

United States will place a wreath

14

:

on the tomb of the unknown soldier.

15

:

It's a time for remembrance of

those who have gone on before us.

16

:

We all wanna leave a legacy,

a life to be remembered.

17

:

Recently, Guy and I and our husbands

were backpacking in the Bears Ears

18

:

National Monument, and on the walls,

these beautiful canyon walls, are hand

19

:

prints, petroglyphs, and pictographs of

an ancient people that lived this land.

20

:

It, to me, was like an ancient memorial.

21

:

I was here, a soul much like you and me.

22

:

They loved.

23

:

They were married.

24

:

They gave birth.

25

:

They died.

26

:

They had wars.

27

:

They hunted for food.

28

:

They searched for water.

29

:

Life was important to them, they

had joys and sorrows and fears and

30

:

laughter and heartache just like

you and I, and they too wanted to

31

:

leave a legacy and be remembered.

32

:

I think it's fascinating

how it is, it's there.

33

:

Time has stood still, and we may not

know their names, but we do realize

34

:

and recognize the sacredness of their

life . So we all wanna leave a legacy.

35

:

This makes me think of a song that I love.

36

:

It's called "Legacy" by Nicole Nordmann.

37

:

The chorus is, "I wanna leave a legacy.

38

:

How will they remember me?

39

:

Did I choose to love?

40

:

Did I point to You enough

to make a mark on things?

41

:

I wanna leave an offering, a child

of mercy and grace, who blessed

42

:

Your name unapologetically,

and leave that kind of legacy."

43

:

Have you ever thought about that?

44

:

What kind of legacy are you leaving?

45

:

What kind of heart walls, are

you leaving handprints on?

46

:

We're all aware of how

precious this time is.

47

:

It's a commodity worth more

than gold and earthly treasures.

48

:

We just recently celebrated

my husband's 70th birthday.

49

:

Wow!

50

:

Where did that time go?

51

:

You know how it feels.

52

:

One minute you're 20-something

and you feel like you have

53

:

all the time in the world.

54

:

You're so busy raising a growing

family, building a career, and

55

:

trying to eke out some time to get

away to create lasting memories.

56

:

And suddenly life happens and you're

60-something, and then if you're

57

:

lucky, 80-something, 90-something.

58

:

Each one of our journeys, our time on this

earth is precious and is measured to God.

59

:

Our prophet, our belated

prophet, Russell M.

60

:

Nelson, said, "The length of

your life is not as important

61

:

as the kind of life you live.

62

:

For each of us, even a hundred-year-old

man, life passes quickly."

63

:

he also said, quote, "In the

contents of eternity, this life

64

:

is hardly a nanosecond, but what

a crucial nanosecond it is."

65

:

A nanosecond.

66

:

See, I told you it's like

time is moving so rapidly.

67

:

That's what I wanna share with you today.

68

:

It's about time

69

:

The prophet Alma in the Book of Mormon

taught us, "Now whether there is

70

:

more than one time appointed for man

to rise," meaning the resurrection,

71

:

"it mattereth not, for all do not

die at once, and this mattereth not.

72

:

All is as one day with God, and

time is only measured unto man."

73

:

Time is only measured unto man.

74

:

This makes me believe that time is

part of this mortal journey's test.

75

:

So how are you doing on your mortal test?

76

:

I've never been very good at testing.

77

:

How about you?

78

:

Have you ever heard of the

term redeeming the time?

79

:

I came across it lately in one of my

morning studies while seeking answers

80

:

and strength to know how to fulfill

the demands upon my time, especially

81

:

when my weakness is ADOS, attention

deficit oh shiny, or oh squirrel,

82

:

depending on what environment I'm in.

83

:

I was reading in Helaman 16 verse 10,

"Walking more circumspectly before God."

84

:

What does that mean, circumspectly?

85

:

I looked it up, of course.

86

:

Latin root word is to look around,

to look carefully at how we live and

87

:

behave, to live, act, and make decisions

with strict accuracy, diligence,

88

:

and awareness of one's surrounding.

89

:

So I can see how it's pretty important

to walk circumspectly before God,

90

:

but I love what happened next.

91

:

The Holy Ghost sent me on a treasure hunt.

92

:

Does that happen to you

when you go seeking?

93

:

In the footnotes of the definition of

circumspectly was another scripture,

94

:

ephesians 5, verses 15 through 17.

95

:

See that you walk circumspectly, not as

fools, but as wise, redeeming the time.

96

:

Because the days are evil, therefore

do not be unwise, but understand

97

:

what the will of the Lord is.

98

:

This redeeming the time means to make

the most of every opportunity, especially

99

:

for spiritual or godly purposes.

100

:

The phrase suggests that time is

a valuable commodity that must be

101

:

bought back or rescued from waste.

102

:

When we think of the word redeeming,

often we think of the Redeemer, our

103

:

Savior, and how He redeemed us from sin.

104

:

So for time to be redeemed, it also

needs to be rescued from waste.

105

:

We all have had those moments,

haven't we, where we get trapped in

106

:

the rabbit hole of media scrolling,

Netflix watching, game playing.

107

:

I don't know what your vice

is, but I have a story.

108

:

I have a parable that is

called The Eagle or the Hog.

109

:

It's a good reminder of how

are we spending our time.

110

:

It starts off with saying you can't

tell the character of an individual

111

:

by the way he does his daily work.

112

:

Watch him when his work is over.

113

:

See where he goes.

114

:

What does he do with his time?

115

:

When he may do as he pleases?

116

:

Then you can tell his true character.

117

:

Let's take the eagle, for example.

118

:

This bird works as hard and

as efficiently as any other

119

:

animal in doing its daily work.

120

:

It provides for itself and its young

by the sweat of its brow, so to speak.

121

:

But when its daily work is over,

the eagle has time on its own

122

:

and to do just as it pleases.

123

:

Note how it spends its moments.

124

:

It flies to the highest realms of the

heavens, spreads out its wings, and bathes

125

:

in the upper air, for it loves pure,

clean atmosphere and the lofty heights.

126

:

On the other hand, let

us consider the hog.

127

:

This animal grunts and grubs and provides

for its young just as well as the eagle.

128

:

But when its working hours are over

and it has time to do as he pleases,

129

:

observe where it goes and what it does.

130

:

The hog will seek out the muddiest hole in

the pasture and will roll and soak itself

131

:

in filth, for this is the thing it loves.

132

:

People are either hogs or eagles

when it comes to their leisure time.

133

:

So what are you doing with free time?

134

:

Maybe you're saying, free time?

135

:

What is that?

136

:

We all have free time.

137

:

Let's be honest.

138

:

And sometimes we find ourselves wallowing

in the mud and sometimes hopefully

139

:

we are soaring great heights and it's

the Savior that can redeem us when

140

:

we are covered in that mud, clean us

off and send us on our way to fly.

141

:

This redeeming the time means Living

with urgency, it is a call to live

142

:

intentionally, wisely, acknowledge that

earthly life is brief and uncertain.

143

:

Isn't that so true?

144

:

So also in my search for

understanding, I came across

145

:

colossians 4:5: "Walk in wisdom towards

them without redeeming the time."

146

:

Those that are without can be those

that are without hope, those who are

147

:

without food or clothing, those who

are without spiritual food, those

148

:

who are without friendship, those

who are without health and strength.

149

:

Those who are without can

be just about anything.

150

:

walk towards them.

151

:

This would be the will of the Father.

152

:

So friends, fellow travelers, I wanna

invite you to pray to know what is

153

:

the one thing you can start doing

today to become a wise woman who walks

154

:

through life circumspectly, to look

carefully at how we live and behave,

155

:

and be able to redeem the time.

156

:

One simple thing that you can do.

157

:

Also in my treasure hunt,

I came upon this prayer.

158

:

It's a beautiful prayer by an American

Trappist monk named Thomas Merton.

159

:

"My Lord God, I have no

idea where I'm going.

160

:

I do not see the road ahead of me.

161

:

I cannot know for certain where it

will end, nor do I really know myself,

162

:

and the fact that I think I am following

your will does not mean that I'm actually

163

:

doing so, but I believe that the desire

to please you does, in fact, please you."

164

:

Isn't that a beautiful reminder

that we just need to simply seek

165

:

out the will of the Lord today?

166

:

Walk towards them without

circumspectly look around.

167

:

There's so much beauty in your

life and so much to live for.

168

:

Leave a wonderful legacy.

169

:

You are leaving handprints

on people's hearts.

170

:

And your time here in this earthly

life, brief or long, is of great worth.

171

:

You are extraordinary

172

:

I love you.

173

:

Thanks for joining me, and

I'll see you on the trail
