Shownotes
You’ve heard it before: “adopt, don’t shop.” It sounds simple. Do the right thing, give a dog a home, be part of the solution. But what happens when doing the right thing… doesn’t work? When families who are ready, willing, and loving get turned away without explanation—over technicalities they didn’t even know mattered?
This episode looks at a growing tension in the rescue world: when protection becomes perfection and good homes are no longer enough. Because somewhere along the way, helping animals started coming at the expense of the people trying to help them. So what happens when systems designed for good lose sight of what actually matters?
Scripture (NIV):
Matthew 23:23 –“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
Reflection Questions:
Have you ever felt disqualified by rules that didn’t seem to match reality?
Have you ever tried to do the right thing… but couldn’t get past the system?
Not able to adopt a dog? Tell us why.
