In this episode, I explain why Pink became the heart of this project and what it truly represents for me. Pink isn’t about a colour or a stereotype—it’s about identity. It’s about who we were before motherhood, what parts of ourselves got quieter along the way, and how easy it is to lose sight of ourselves while caring for everyone else. I share how motherhood reshaped me, how my sense of self evolved, and why reclaiming your “pink” isn’t about going back to who you were, but allowing yourself to grow into who you are becoming.
This conversation is an invitation to pause and reflect on the parts of you that still matter, even when life feels full and overwhelming. Why Pink sets the foundation for this podcast—creating space for honest stories, shared experiences, and the reminder that you are allowed to take up space, ask questions, and reconnect with yourself in the middle of motherhood.
Key Takeaways
About The Host:
Dr. Christelle Oliver-Dussault is a family physician with a clinical focus on aesthetic medicine, women’s health, and psycho-education. Her work is grounded in a holistic, whole-person approach that integrates medical science with a deep appreciation of the mind–body connection. Alongside her clinical practice, she is deeply committed to medical education and mentors the next generation of family physicians through her work with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
She is the founder of Reclaim The Pink Within, a community created to support women through life’s most profound transitions. This project was born from personal experience. After becoming a mother, Dr. Oliver-Dussault became aware of a quiet but profound shift in her sense of self, one she had long observed in her patients, yet only fully understood once she lived it herself. What had once been a clinical observation became a deeply personal insight, shaping the lens through which she now supports and guides other women.

Flamingos aren't born pink. They become pink. Their color,
Speaker:that vibrant, unmistakable pink, comes from what they
Speaker:eat, what they consume, what nourishes them, what
Speaker:fills them. And during periods when they're raising their young,
Speaker:something incredible happens. Their color slowly fades.
Speaker:They give so much of their nutrients, their energy, their reserves
Speaker:to their babies that their bodies physically fade.
Speaker:Once their young begin to rely less on them, once they have a chance to
Speaker:replenish themselves, their color returns. This is women. This is
Speaker:motherhood. This is matricense. This is the quiet
Speaker:fading that so many of us experience when we're giving,
Speaker:caring, holding everything together. We
Speaker:lose pieces of ourselves, not because we're weak, but
Speaker:because we're devoted, because we care so deeply,
Speaker:because life demands more of us than we can sometimes replenish.
Speaker:Hi, everyone, and welcome back to the get yout Pink Back podcast.
Speaker:I'm your host, Dr. Christelle Oliver Dusseau, and I am so
Speaker:grateful that you're here today. This project
Speaker:was born out of something deeply personal.
Speaker:Something many of us experience but rarely speak out loud.
Speaker:For years, I carried this quiet sense that I had
Speaker:drifted away from myself. I could feel the weight of everyone
Speaker:else's needs, the invisible load, the constant expectations,
Speaker:and underneath it all, a version of me who had
Speaker:slowly faded away in the background.
Speaker:Maybe you felt that, too, and maybe that's why you're here.
Speaker:Get yout Pink Pack is a movement built on a simple truth.
Speaker:Women lose parts of themselves when they care for others.
Speaker:But we can also find ourselves again. And this
Speaker:podcast is one way we're doing that. And before
Speaker:I go any further, I want to share something important,
Speaker:the reason why this project is called get yout Pink Back.
Speaker:The name wasn't chosen because pink is cute or trendy or feminine.
Speaker:It comes from nature, from a story that struck with me,
Speaker:that stuck with me so deeply, I couldn't shake it.
Speaker:Flamingos aren't born pink. They become pink.
Speaker:Their color, that vibrant, unmistakable pink,
Speaker:comes from what they eat, what they consume, what
Speaker:nourishes them, what fills them. And during
Speaker:periods when they're raising their young, something
Speaker:incredible happens. Their color
Speaker:slowly fades. They give so much of their
Speaker:nutrients, their energy, their reserves to their babies
Speaker:that their bodies physically fade. The
Speaker:pink softens. Sometimes it even
Speaker:disappears.
Speaker:But then, and this is the part that stayed with me,
Speaker:once their young begin to rely less on them, once they have a
Speaker:chance to replenish themselves, their color returns.
Speaker:Their pink comes back. When I first
Speaker:learned this, I thought, this is women. This is
Speaker:motherhood. This is matricense. This is
Speaker:identity. This is the quiet fading
Speaker:that so many of us experience when we're giving,
Speaker:caring, holding everything together.
Speaker:We lose pieces of ourselves not because we're weak,
Speaker:but because we're devoted, because we care so
Speaker:deeply, because life demands more of us
Speaker:than we can sometimes replenish. Then
Speaker:that pink, it became a symbol. It became
Speaker:a sign of energy, vitality, identity, the
Speaker:parts of us that we miss. And the process of getting our
Speaker:pink back isn't about going back to who we were before.
Speaker:It's about rediscovering who we are now.
Speaker:Reclaiming our nourishment, feeding our soul,
Speaker:letting color return to us in a new way. Not the same
Speaker:pink we had before, but a deeper, richer color
Speaker:shaped by our experiences.
Speaker:That's the heart of this project. Not perfection, not
Speaker:performative healing, but a replenishing,
Speaker:a remembering, a becoming.
Speaker:When I began imagining the roots of this project, I knew it had to be
Speaker:grounded in a truth that honors the
Speaker:reality of our lives. The
Speaker:unpolished versions of our world and the full
Speaker:spectrum of who we are. The joy,
Speaker:the grief, the identity shifts, the emotional
Speaker:contradictions, the parts we celebrate
Speaker:and the parts that we hide. Here, we
Speaker:choose real over perfect. We choose honesty,
Speaker:even when it's messy. We choose vulnerability as
Speaker:strength because showing up as we are
Speaker:creates a space for healing. This project is also
Speaker:built on connection, the kind that nourishes you
Speaker:and reminds you that you're not alone. We're
Speaker:not meant to heal in isolation. We're meant to grow in a
Speaker:community. Lean on one another, rise side by
Speaker:side. That's the heartbeat of this space.
Speaker:Compassion threads through everything we do for
Speaker:ourselves, for our stories, for our
Speaker:bodies, for the transitions that shape our lives.
Speaker:We offer softness instead of judgment
Speaker:because so many of us have already carried enough self
Speaker:criticism. We also honor creativity, not
Speaker:just the art, but in all the pathways and
Speaker:ways that we explore. Healing.
Speaker:Through neuroscience, storytelling, somatic practices,
Speaker:reflection, play, expression. Healing
Speaker:isn't linear or uniform. It's living.
Speaker:It's an evolving, and it is a deeply personal
Speaker:process. At its core, this
Speaker:movement is about freedom. The freedom to reconnect with your
Speaker:voice, your identity, your inner compass.
Speaker:To step back into your life with clarity and
Speaker:confidence, to feel ownership over your
Speaker:story once again. And
Speaker:woven through all this is a sense of adventure,
Speaker:the courage to explore the unknown parts of ourselves, to stay
Speaker:curious, to see challenges not as a setback, but as.
Speaker:But an invitation to grow. Healing doesn't have to be
Speaker:heavy all the time. It can be expansive, energizing,
Speaker:even exciting. A rediscovery of the parts of you
Speaker:that make you feel alive. That's the
Speaker:spirit behind this project, a blend of honesty, connection,
Speaker:compassion, creativity, empowerment,
Speaker:and the courage to explore who we are becoming
Speaker:together. So who's this podcast for?
Speaker:It's for the woman who feels like she's lost her spark.
Speaker:For the woman who is overstretched, overwhelmed,
Speaker:operating in autopilot. For the woman who
Speaker:keeps the hard thoughts tucked away in the shadows because she
Speaker:doesn't want to burden anyone. It's
Speaker:for the woman who craves depth, meaning,
Speaker:connection, not surface level advice or toxic
Speaker:positivity. It's for the woman searching for clarity,
Speaker:vitality, belonging, and the freedom to feel
Speaker:like herself again. It's for the woman who wants to feel
Speaker:alive, who wants to feel her pink again.
Speaker:And that's why this podcast exists. To bring into the light
Speaker:the conversations so many of us keep in the dark,
Speaker:to name the thoughts that we're afraid to say, to
Speaker:destigmatize the struggles we carry quietly,
Speaker:to help us feel less alone, more connected and
Speaker:more understood. And here's how we'll do that.
Speaker:We'll be hearing from everyday, extraordinary women just like you,
Speaker:who've lived through identity shifts, reinventions, matrices,
Speaker:burnout, joy and growth. Their stories won't be
Speaker:polished or filtered. They'll be honest, human, and full
Speaker:of the kind of wisdom that only comes from lived experience.
Speaker:At times. We'll bring in experts to help us understand the emotional,
Speaker:cognitive and physical layers beneath these stories. And there
Speaker:will be solo episodes with me where I explore themes like
Speaker:matricence, identity shifts, somatic awareness, and tools
Speaker:to reconnect with yourself. These will be quieter moments,
Speaker:spaces to pause and reflect, where curiosity
Speaker:meets compassion, and where you're invited back to yourself.
Speaker:My hope is for this podcast to feel like
Speaker:genuine connection, like sitting across from a friend who
Speaker:speaks truth with tenderness, who asks
Speaker:thoughtful questions, who reminds you of who you are at your
Speaker:core. I hope it helps you feel less alone.
Speaker:I hope it brings you back to yourself. And I hope it
Speaker:sparks the courage to explore, to grow, to heal,
Speaker:and to reclaim the color in your life.
Speaker:You're not lost. You are becoming.
Speaker:And you are so welcome here. Thank you for
Speaker:joining me on this journey, on this adventure of getting your
Speaker:pink back. Next episode, I will share
Speaker:my personal and ever evolving pink journey
Speaker:and how we got here today.
