At one point or another, each of us has found ourselves struggling with setting personal boundaries.
Sometimes that means we might need to establish or renegotiate the limits, extents, lines and confines of our various relationships.
Perhaps you let someone new get too close, too soon - and wound up feeling like you were being smothered, suckered or bamboozled. Ha!
Maybe you’ve been tolerating some “so not soothing” behaviors from your family of origin because they taught you “family comes first” or they demand close contact and loyalty even if that no longer feels good, right or supportive for you.
To keep this from happening, as adults, we need to find healthy ways to adjust and adapt mindfully when it comes to connecting with and loving others.
As I often tell my Spiritual Mentoring clients, it’s OK to love someone from a distance.
Sometimes, the most loving thing you can do for yourself (and them) is to create some space for safety, perspective and healing.
Loving people from a distance, doesn't always mean that they're bad people. It just means that for your own sanity and well-being at times, finding a better suited internal longitude or external latitude is necessary.
Communicating from further or farther away, can feel safer and allows us to start building a better bond that may or may not move into something more close in proximity down the road.
Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we are talking about “finding the right distance” that works for us when it comes to connecting to and loving the people in our lives.
After listening, I invite you to get curious and ask, “What’s the right distance for the different relationships in your life?”
