400 years of history is a long time! From the time when the exiles return to Jerusalem and rebuild the walls of the city to the advent of Christ in the New Testament we have 400 years of Biblical silence. This series looks at what happened in those years and how they shape the time into which Jesus comes and how that impacts our faith today.
In part 5 we look at Herod The Great and how his reign consolidates Rome’s authority in Judea. Herod’s life is tracked in three parts, looking at the building of his power base, the extensive building projects he undertook at the height of his reign and the slaughter of the innocents as he attempts to kill the baby Jesus. His ultimate failing is unfaithfulness to God, having had all he needed to welcome the Messiah.
