“An ally mindset is about orienting yourself for success in life, at work, and in home in a way that makes everyone better together,” shares Morag Barrett, Executive Coach and CEO of Skye Team–a global leadership development firm. Today, she joins host Kiley Peters to discuss how best to lead in both your business and your personal life.
In order to be the best leader you can be, it is important to lead from within. An to lead inward, you must first define what success means for you and what you want out of your relationship with your colleagues. Once you have that figured out, then you can focus on what your colleague is trying to achieve and where your desires intersect with theirs. Remember, always make the implicit as explicit as possible so that expectations for your colleagues are clearly communicated. For the best success, Morag suggests adopting an ally mindset to bring out the best in yourself and others. She explains there are 5 main elements of an ally mindset- abundance and generosity, connection and compassion, courage and vulnerability, candor and debate, and finally action and accountability. Once you have mastered these elements, you will be a more effective and successful leader both at work and in your personal life.
Leadership requires you to show up for both yourself and others. In order to achieve success as a leader, you must clearly define what success looks like for you and then match your needs with those of your colleagues. Tune into this week’s episode of Welcome to Eloma for a conversation with Morag Barrett to learn more about leading from within, the five main elements of the ally mindset, and simple tips for increasing your connection with your colleagues.
