Nathan:

29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Jesus. Matthew 5:29. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 16 of 30 Days of Growing. This counsel from Jesus has been twisted quite badly over the years—by folks being overly simplistic or literalistic. But there’s an important point here we need to get: some difficult, personal sacrifices are worth making. History is scattered with stories of individuals who have amputated a a hand, arm or leg—in order live. Now, Jesus isn’t talking about physical amputation here, after all you’re hand can’t literally make you do wrong. But other things—that feel just as essential to us—can, and Jesus is telling it straight: all the pleasure of temporary comfort will be obliterated by the cost of eternal loss. Pay the relatively small cost of that painful change now—and reap the indescribable blessings of an eternity more delightful than you can imagine in your wildest dreams. Simply put: live life from an eternal perspective.
