Shownotes

In this final episode of 2025, we zoom out from the individual lessons and explore the deeper orientation, mindset, and ongoing practice required to genuinely live your design. Rather than treating Human Design as a rule-book, this episode re-frames it as a living experiment, one that unfolds uniquely through your body, your timing, and your awareness.

Kelsey offers five core considerations for your ongoing deconditioning journey: reclaiming your power, holding the system lightly, understanding the real role of the mind, embracing the spiralic nature of deconditioning, and committing to awareness as a lifelong practice. This conversation brings nuance, grounding, and compassion to what it truly means to walk this path long-term.

What's Discussed in this Episode:

  • Why you shouldn’t give your power away to the system, teachers, or your own mind
  • How to hold Human Design lightly and avoid rigidity or dogma
  • The true role of the mind as a narrator, not a decision-maker
  • Why deconditioning is a non-linear, spiralic process
  • Awareness as an ongoing, moment-to-moment practice
  • How binary thinking (good/bad, right/wrong) signals the mind taking over
  • The importance of experimenting rather than forcing strategy or authority

Speaker A:

If this information stays with you, if you stay in this human design experiment, you're going to notice a whole lot of conditioning on more and more subtle subconscious levels. They're going to be coming to the surface. You're going to be made aware of how much conditioning has run your life.

And that shit is very unsettling to the mind because you have thought this about yourself, about your nature, about your life, about what matters to you, about how you operate.

You've thought this and you're going to start to see more and more how much of who you thought you were and who you still think you are is based on these constructs, is based on conditioning.

Speaker A:

Welcome to the Living Your Design Podcast. I'm your experimentor, Kelsey Rose Tortorice. This podcast is an audio only release of the full length in depth Human Design Foundations course I've been teaching over the last several years.

It is a no bullshit, comprehensive, embodied introduction to the human design system that will challenge your ego mind and support you in your process of reuniting with the unique wisdom of your body.

In episode one, I speak a bit about the process that led me to releasing this course for free in podcast form, and I offer a few notes that might be useful to contextualize and clarify what you'll hear in this episode and beyond. I recommend giving that short intro episode a listen if you haven't yet.

The LYD podcast is part of a larger living body of work, a growing archive of my teachings about consciousness through the languages of astrology and human design, hosted in an online community space where I stay in orbit with my students, mentees, alumni, peers and collaborators.

For more information about how to connect with me and tune in to my archives and ongoing live teachings, including how to access the original LYD course, complete with videos and slides. Stay tuned to the podcast or check out patreon.com/KelseyRoseTort.

Thank you for tuning in to my transmission of Living Your Design. It's a deeply personal and somewhat vulnerable share that I feel honored, humbled and excited to release into the world.I hope that it helps you remember and come home to yourself.

Speaker A:

I'm calling this extra little unit Considerations for your experiment or or some messages.

In summation, I have just a few bullet points that I wanted to share in the interest of offering nuance that I've gained through my own years in the experiment and through watching others that maybe will save you a little trouble or bring you a little more clarity as you continue to embark on your experiment outside of this LYD class.

So the five points I'll speak a little bit to are not giving away your power to the system, to any outer authority, whether it be the system in general, your own mind, or someone else's interpretation of the system. An invitation to hold everything within human design lightly.

I'll talk a little bit about the role of the mind, that deconditioning is a spiral and that awareness is a practice. So beginning with don't give away your power, remember that human design is an experiment. It's not a set of rules.

Even your strategy is not a rule for you to follow. It's a hypothesis that your mechanics, your form, works in this specific way.

And your experiment is for you to watch and see if in fact, that is true. Human design offers us the potential to surrender more entirely to what it proposes are the absolutes of each of our differentiated mechanical form.

It is not a limitation, it's a proposal that this is how it works for you. This is how your body moves through reality, moves through the Maya.

And it suggests that you will experience more of your signature theme, the more aware of and surrendered to that you are, and the less that you attempt to futilely resist it. But it's not a set of rules.

And so we have to experiment with it to see if it's true for us and also to help the potential truth of it land in a more nuanced and clear way in each of our own awarenesses. Because response is infinitely differentiated based on the individual experiencing it.

Not all sacral beings are going to have the exact same experience of response. And your experience of response in awareness is going to change as you move through different situations in your life with different awarenesses.

The same goes for projectors. There are so many different ways that you will and can experience invitation. And they're all unique to you in your design and your experience.

Same with. Same for manifestors. Same with reflectors. How you experience your strategy is dependent on you entirely.

And so we have to experiment, we have to explore in order to come to an increasingly refined awareness of how these mechanical truths work in our own body, in our own experience, in our own system. So remind yourself frequently that strategy is not a rule.

And while there is a limitation inherent to the absolute truth of our definition and openness, we are limited to experiencing life mechanically in this particular form. That limitation is something that just is.

It's not something that you have to adhere to from a mental component, and it's not something that you can control. And so remember that your experiment doesn't have to be constant, rigid or even ultimately conclusive.

You don't need to officially decide that this does or doesn't work for you, that you have to respond or not respond in this way.

You have to invite some fluidity, or I invite you to invite some fluidity, to notice when things get a bit rigid, when you start to feel married, to tethered to what your mind interprets to be your strategy, rather than just continuous continuing to curiously watch the way your body moves through space and time.

With human design as a tool for better understanding what it is you're seeing and you're watching, remember that no one outside of you can validate any aspects of your experiment for you. No one outside of you can validate whether or when or how human design is of use to you and your awareness.

No one but you can determine when and how to experiment or what aspects of the knowledge are for you and in what way. So notice when your mind's narration morphs the concept of mechanical strategy and authority into reasons why you can or can't do things.

Anytime that you are rationalizing, justifying why you're doing something and using strategy or authority to attempt to justify it, or rationalizing why you can't do something. That's mind. Mind doesn't have to be a problem. It is an inherent part of our experiment and of our existence.

But the presence of using these concepts within human design in order to rationalize come to some kind of certainty, prove or justify what you are or aren't doing. That's always a sign of mind, and that's always an interference with the truth. So notice when that's happening and practice watching it.

Practice not denying to yourself that it's happening. Practice being curious whether or not it's happening.

Practice having awareness and notice when someone else's interpretation of the system, including RA's, and of course, including mine. For many of you, my interpretation is a first one that you're taking in at least rather deeply.

So notice when the interpretations become something more than conceptually playful for you.

Notice when you find someone else's judgment of your design or of human design as a whole becoming this louder, stronger voice than your own internal authority, even then your own mind, right?

Because especially for those of us with undefined ajnas, those outside interpretations are ones that can get really lodged into our own mental awareness. And so it's important to remain conceptually curious about how others interpret the system. And that is true for Ra as well.

Ra was the first interpreter of the system and undoubtedly had some kind of clear connection to the mechanics of the human design system that perhaps no one, perhaps not many to follow, have or will, because he was the the person to receive the information so directly, but he still remained a human with a mind and with his own differentiated understanding and application of it.

So while I love what, what is often referred to in the human design space as source material, while I personally enjoy listening to raw lectures, it's important to remember that Ra is not God. Ra is still an outer authority to you. He's a messenger of the system, but his interpretation of it is still just that. It is still an interpretation.

So when you notice your own mental narrations of the concepts and the mechanics and, or someone else's interpretation becoming the thing you're paying the most attention to, the thing you're using to determine whether you're doing something, quote, right or wrong. You're in the binary, you're in the mind, but specifically oriented to this point. You're giving your power away to something outside of you.

So notice when these things are happening. Play with detachment, play with awareness. Secondly, number two, hold everything lightly. I encourage you to hold everything in human design lightly.

Now, this encouragement is more of an overall, an invitation to your overall orientation to the system. I do think it's useful, at least for me, speaking from my own experience.

It has been useful to allow myself to take certain parts of the knowledge and take certain components of my own mechanics really seriously for a time. Right.

So I think when I think about this concept, I think a lot about the phrase that often goes with the third line, the martyr of making and breaking bonds. That's the third line's bonding strategy.

And when third lines are really trying to figure things out, when they're trying to understand what's ultimately true through playing with it, through really buying into it, to explore it, they make a bond with something, but then they also are able to break a bond. Once they realize that they know what they need to know from it, they break the bond and they move on.

And so mentioning that, because for me, the overall orientation towards human design, of taking it lightly is something that I had to come, I had to arrive to in my own process over time, through taking certain components of it very seriously and really adopting them in a pretty intense and all encompassing way, making bonds with them.

This doesn't mean that when you find yourself feeling really pulled and really drawn to exploring a particular component of your design, or maybe to experimenting really radically with your strategy, or with your strategy and authority, that can be great. That can be an incredibly important part of your experience. To fully make a bond with that part of it, to radically experiment.

But if there aren't, if there doesn't remain an openness to your own orientation to human design being challenged, when you fully accept the entirety of the system without that openness, without a lightness, it's going to shift from being a tool of liberation, of awareness, to dogma. It's going to become a new mental prison and an overemphasized outer authority.

And on the other hand, when you fully reject it, in my opinion, there's another kind of awareness imprisonment happening, right? So when you fully accept it in a rigid way grasping to it, you will.

You're kind of imprisoned by your mind's translation of what is actually happening mechanically. But when you fully reject it, you're imprisoned by something else. In this case, your awareness is submitting to the grasping of the ego.

The ego, many times is going to really object to the truth of human design, to the truth of the absolute of these mechanics, because the ego wants to be in control. And so the no choiceness of it, the absolute of the mechanics are, can really be perceived as a threat to the ego.

And in this case, with a full rejection of the system, the other side of the spectrum of accepting it as your new dogma, you're going to be missing out on the potential for more nuanced discovery of yourself and for more expansive liberation and more refined awareness. So in my opinion, experimentation is a sweet spot in the middle.

Allowing yourself to reject components of it, allowing yourself to accept, to make bonds with, to integrate components of it, even really strictly and radically for a time being.

But noticing when you're swinging to either end of that spectrum really intensely and inviting a bit more lightness, a bit more curiosity, a bit more openness to your orientation to human design and to your own experiment. So what is the role of the mind?

We know the mind is what's responsible for having us cling on either one of these spectrums of holding too tightly or fully rejecting being closed to the potential awareness that human design can offer. But what is the role of the mind in our experiment? What is the role of the mind in maintaining that sweet spot in our expanding awareness?

Your mind is a tool for accessing the structure of your experiment, also known as your reality. Right? Your experiment is your reality. You don't have to be in the human design experiment in order to be experimenting with reality.

We're all experimenting with reality every moment of our lives. The tool of mind is brilliant, but it's also limited. Our mind cannot compute the multidimensionality of truth, only a model of it.

The interpretation of truth that mind has to offer us is a limited one.

It gives us a lot of information, but it also gives us information that operates strictly within the binary, within the constructs of duality, within the potential trap of polarity.

And so we have to understand that what our mind presents to us, any rationalization, any articulation of what we're experiencing as we integrate the knowledge of the human design system into our cells, into our bodies, into our awareness, what the mind has to say about that, it's a two dimensional version, maybe a three dimensional version, but it lacks dimensionality beyond that. And truth is so much more multifaceted and multidimensional than these dense dimensions. So watch out for binary traps.

Anything that pops up as good versus bad in your mind's interpretation of your reality, of your life, of your experiment, of your design, of your mechanics, of human design as a whole is a voice of mind and a trick of the binary.

Really easy signal that you're in mind is you're experiencing, you're articulating, you're narrating, you're justifying, you're rationalizing, you're interpreting from a place of good, bad, right, wrong, or take quality judgments out of it, this or that, right, it's not this or that, it's always something in between that's much more multidimensional than any one side of any this or that black and white spectrum can offer. So when you notice you're pinning two truths against each other, understand this is an exact demonstration of the limitation of the mind.

The mind which is brilliant, but also limited. So examples of this, when you start to experience conditioning as bad.

When you go out into the world or plug into another being and you notice the intensity of their emotions through your undefined solar plexus, and you start to think, this is bad. I can't experience this. This is bad.

Or those of you with an undefined ego, when you feel someone else's ego bumping up and you feel the ramifications of that on your openness here, and you notice your own tendency to sort of cling to that conditioning and to cling to the conditioning through any of your undefined centers that you've picked up on and sort of accidentally stored away throughout your whole life, it's not bad. If you stick with this human design experiment. If it. And this. I'm not, I don't think this is a choice you're making.

But if the information that you've taken in and are in the process of integrating through this LYD course stays with you if it's for you. And therefore it just naturally becomes a part of the sort of what I like to call advanced goggles that you're watching your life through.

As you're shown your conditioning more and more, it's so easy for the not self version of you, led by the binary mind, to think that that is bad, that that is a problem, that conditioning has run your life so much, perhaps, that you've identified so much with your not self. But conditioning is not bad. Your not self is not bad. This is binary thinking.

This is a distorted, limited way of perceiving what's actually happening. But it's also the only way that you're binaried by driven mind is able to interpret and narrate what's happening.

So notice it without believing it to be the whole truth, because it is just a facet of the experience.

And your own process of experimentation, your own inner authority and your own expanding detachment, expanding awareness is going to help you see with more clarity the truth that is so much more rich and useful and beautiful than that your conditioning is bad or that your not self is bad. Another example of the binary, another binary trap is the binary of living your design versus not living your design, right?

So one way to orient to this is you've always had your design, so you've always been living your design, right? And this is a bit of a semantics thing, right? Because we're always living our design, but are we living it consciously or not? Right?

And even that's a binary, consciously living my design or not consciously living my design. And so we have, we, we experience, we narrate, we perceive on a mental level through the binary. And that's not a problem.

In order for me to communicate to you today and always, I have to use my mind. I'm using my Ajna. And my Ajna is limited to the binary. And so watch for the binary traps. The binary in and of itself doesn't have to be a trap.

We can acknowledge that living my design versus not living my design, conditioning versus not conditioning, true self versus not self. These are tools for us to understand things on an intellectual plane. But they are not where truth and understanding end.

Truth and understanding goes beyond this.

We're evolving at this particular moment in human evolution towards truth and understanding on the solar plexus, or emotional level, which is spirit consciousness. It's multidimensional.

It does not happen linearly or within the parameters of the binary Ajna Awareness, which has been the awareness that as a species we've been utilizing for the very long recent history, but also the one that present humans alive today are stuck on. For the most part, it is linear, it is limited to the binary. We're evolving to an awareness and an understanding beyond that.

And that comes with our deconditioning, that comes with our gradual ungrasping from the limitation of the mind. The binary will remain, but it doesn't have to trap us.

So when these narratives are present, when these narratives present, when these narratives that are present, limited to polarity present themselves, practice watching with that, watching them instead of engaging with them. They're never on their own, the whole truth. So we have to wait with and for our strategy and authority to clarify.

We don't have to turn off the mind, we don't have to shame the mind. The mind is not bad to say it is, is a binary trap.

But we can trust that if we continue to watch without completely shifting the entirety of our attention to the binary, but we watch the binary, in doing so, in watching the binary, rather than being fully in it, deeply engaging with it, identifying with it, we're building a capacity, we're building a strength, we're building a stronger connection with the part of us that does exist outside of these more dense dimensions, that does exist outside of the 2D, outside of the 3D.

We don't get to escape this dimension of polarity, this dimension of Maya, but we can build a stronger connection with the part of us that exists extra dimensionally outside of ego mind, exo ego as I've started to refer to it.

And so if we stay with our strategy and authority, if we allow our mechanics to run the show and we continue to observe the mental narration of it, which is again linked to the binary, rather than engage with it fully or dis, or allow the mental binary narration to Run the show instead of our mechanics, then we're practicing accessing a state of being that is more harmoniously calibrated across our own being, across these multiple dimensions. So strategy and authority can be your process where you shift your attention when you notice these binary narratives presenting really strongly.

And also, on the other hand, sometimes dropping your conscious sna for a bit is just what's going to happen.

And watching your life with a bit less of an orientation to the human design experiment and just allowing life to even more organically bring context can be more clarifying. So what is the role of mind?

Well, mind as the surrendered passenger who observes consciousness, who observes mechanics, is a tool for continuously refined and expansive awareness.

But mind attempting to be the driver is a chain that keeps you stuck on the hamster wheel of this construct of duality that keeps you linked to the pain and suffering of these denser dimensions, more deeply than is necessary, more deeply than is required of you. We are required to be connected to the pain and suffering of this dimension that we physically have incarnated into.

But there's an extent to which we can also be connected to these exo ego, these parts of ourselves that exist outside of the Maya and those aspects of ourself become more and more accessible, more and more present in our experience of life and reality. The more the mind is surrendered as passenger rather than attempting to drive the life. Deconditioning is a spiral.

So this whole process that I've been describing kind of leads to this. Here the mind operates in this never ending pendulum swing through the binary. On its own, it appears to be a constant back and forth.

But with awareness, through observation of the pendulum, we can detach from the mind and we get to recalibrate our relationship to the mind so that it becomes a binary influenced narrator or passenger rather than our strongly held truth. We divest from the binary trap and we expand our awareness and consciousness to be able to perceive beyond the limitations of such.

We continue to watch the part of us that is the hamster on the hamster wheel, that is the mind in the never ending pendulum swing of the binary. But another part of us appears outside of the hamster wheel.

Another part of us joins the crowd, the part of us that's always been off the hamster wheel and watches it. And slowly the relationship to this constant pendulum swing to the part of us that is the hamster on the wheel of mind rebalances itself out.

It becomes a more accurate depiction of the truth of our spiritual existence, which is that we are spiritual, boundless spirit Boundless consciousness source God. Having this human experiment experience on this realm. This is what deconditioning is. And its process is a spiralic one. It's not linear.

So we don't go from completely unconsciously living our design. Or being in the not self or operating from conditioning to that being the case less and less. So day by day or month by month.

Or maybe even year by year, I don't really know. But it's certainly not ultimately linear. It is a spiral. It is. It's a swing set right, because it's through this pendulum motion.

A few steps forward, a few steps backward, a few steps in this direction, a few steps in the opposite direction. It's through this constant pursuit of equilibrium on this dualistic plane. That the spiral is fueled.

That this spiral of expanding more outwardly focused, more attached awareness and discernment grows and watches that pendulum swing. So be patient with yourself and be trusting in the timing of your own process. Everything is always unfolding exactly as it should.

And anytime you have a narrative of I should be deconditioning faster. Or I shouldn't have experienced conditioning this long into my life.

Anytime you're putting pressure on or have a narration of shame with your progress quotes around progress and your deconditioning, that's the mind. That's the mind. Because that's the binary human design. This deconditioning experiment. It's not about improving or being better. If that's the case.

It's also the mind. It's going to be the mind that has a narrative of things should be happening according to a different pace or process.

I should be different than I am. And when mine gets a hold of this system.

When mine gets a hold of the operations of the deconditioning process, which it does, and it will to all of us and for all of us. It's going to be measuring what's actually happening and what you're actually experiencing.

Which is perfect because it is just what is against your mind's version of what it thinks should be happening. Which is entirely based on your conditioning.

So check for yourself when you find that as you decondition aspects of your life and aspects of yourself and your mind and your awareness don't look like what you think they should. According to your mind's idea of progress and growth. Deconditioning is not about having more certainty.

In fact, in my experience, we experience quite a bit less certainty when we move through the world. As passengers with minds, as passengers with passenger consciousness.

You'll have a sense of certainty that has its own sort of like texture and feeling and process based on your authority. Right? You'll build a stronger sense of. Of trust in your strategy, and you'll experience a stronger sense of faith in your authority.

But neither of those things is going to give you certainty the way that your mind craves it. And it's also not about having more of the mind's idea of success.

Play with, experiment with does orienting to my peace or my projector success, which is different than homogenized conditioned success. And you can re listen to the projector lecture for more on that.

Or does reorienting to my surprise or to my satisfaction create a more easeful life for me than orienting to my mind's idea of success? That's the question, right? And you it again it to play with some of the themes from earlier in this video. None of these things are rules.

You don't have to prioritize your satisfaction. You don't have to prioritize your piece. You don't have to prioritize your signature.

You can totally prioritize your mind's idea of success and what you think you want out of your life. And if the human design experiment is for you, your awareness will be persistent in showing you if and how that orientation of.

Of orienting to emphasizing specifically what your mind thinks you need in your life and will make you successful.

If human design is for you, your awareness will continuously point out to you that there's another option and that maybe orienting to your mind's idea of success will always just keep you in this loop in this binary trap in the hamster wheel. So another way to think about all of this is that there's nothing to do. You don't have to do your experiment. You don't have to do your strategy.

We're watching. We're watching what's happening.

And as we watch things and as we watch things in the way that we think, our mechanics and our strategy and authority tell us to. And then we also watch things from a place of kind of disregarding strategy and authority and operating more from the conditioned mind.

Like both of these things are sacred.

Both of these things are part of the process that help us to see with more clarity and to detangle the places where we get knotted up, where we get trapped in the binary so we can relax a bit around the idea that we have to make certain choices in order to live our design or to experience our signature. We don't. We are just watching. And as we watch, we move through this spiral.

We Gain more refinement, more clarity, more awareness around what our mechanics are actually like, what the healthy relationship between this passenger mind and the reality of our mechanics is, and how the mind is able to engage with and translate the mechanics.

And the extent to which we as this awareness that is potentially more elevated than mental awareness, how the relationship between this us that's watching the mind and this us that is the mind is supposed to and can look like that relationship is a constantly changing one as we move through this spiral of deconditioning. So deconditioning, not linear, it's a spiral.

It's not about self improvement or being better according to the mind, having more success according to the mind, or having more certainty according to the mind.

Rather, it's about traversing through this matrix of mind, aka Maya, aka the 3D, aka polarity, with less attachment and more awareness each time around. We're traversing through the matrix of mind with less attachment and more awareness each time around.

We're traversing through the binary, through the polarity, through the Maya, with less attachment and more awareness each time around. But we're still traversing through the Maya. We're still traversing through duality.

And this growing detachment and awareness doesn't present in the same way every time we move through the spiral, or at different points in the spiral, or from person to person.

And nor does our attachment or our lack of awareness as we shift, as the relationship between awareness and mind continues to change and decondition, so will the way that we understand and articulate and observe the process. In other words, what your mind thinks is the truth.

As your mind continuously attempts to translate this experience that you're having in these exo, ego, extra dimensional, more subtle realm ways, it's going to change throughout your deconditioning process. And so again, hold everything lightly. And finally, awareness is a practice.

This really goes hand in hand with deconditioning as a spiral and with all the other points thus far. We are to some extent bound to our minds and thus we are never suddenly fully awake or aware or fully enlightened or realized.

We're never done with this process. Perhaps we have these Eureka moments of it, and maybe those moments grow in weight and in length as we move through the spiral.

But so long as we exist in body and mind, we experience the relationship between the two. We experience the density and the polarity of this plane. We're never done practicing awareness.

When something is a practice, it's something that we implement moment to moment, day to day. It's not something that is final, finite.

It can become infinitely easier and more innate, but it remains a practice and we will always be challenged in new and or greater forms. These new or different or greater challenges to our awareness are not evidence of failure.

So when we find that, oh shit, I've been operating from mind, or this thing that I thought was true, that I felt was true, now I can see retrospectively that maybe it was true for a second and then it morphed into a mental grasping, this is gonna happen. This is why we have to hold things lightly, right? But it's not evidence of failure. It's just a little nook. It's just a little tangle in your spiral.

And if it presents, it's for you.

Anytime there's a knot in your consciousness, in your awareness, anytime something pulls you back in to the dense, binary, polarized realm of mind, it's because there's something for you to learn to relax around, specific to that knot. And this is not failure. This is just the process. It's only the not self mind that perceives failure. Because failure is a component of the binary.

There is no escape. There's just awareness and just practice.

So I hope this brings you a sense of peace, but also kind of calibrates your expectations to what it is to move forward living your design to what it is to move forward in your experiment with this awareness.

Because this information is so radical and so potentially liberating and so like literally out of this world that it can feel like a miracle to come into. And I think it is. I think it is a miracle.

And I think that the mind wants to take this miracle, this really intense experience of taking in this information, of seeing yourself and your reality in this way. And it wants to interpret it as meaning that the suffering is over, that everything's gonna be easier from this point forward.

And while there may be truth to that, right, because it's not easy to live from a place of conditioning. So there is going to be greater relaxation, greater acceptance, greater surrender, more peace, more success, more surprise, more satisfaction.

It's not gonna be just that. It's the binary mind that wants to think that, ah, now we have it. Now everything will be in control, but everything will not be in control.

Everything will be less in control than you imagined it could be, perhaps than your mind wants it to be.

Once again, I hope this closing chapter here brings you a sense of stillness and peace within these recalibrated expectations that it's just constant surrender and constant practice.
