Do you ever feel like you're busy with all the right things — but somehow still off course?
Like you're moving fast, but not necessarily toward anything that truly matters? You might be floating.
Alesha Limbo knows that feeling well. A life coach, speaker, and podcast host, Alesha once described herself as a "recovering floater" — someone who stayed busy but hadn't yet locked into the specific purpose God had wired her for.
Her journey from distraction to intentional, purpose-driven living has shaped everything from her coaching practice to her marriage to a bold land development leap in South Dakota.

Purpose, why are you here on this earth? Titus 2, 14 says, Jesus gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. And so to be zealous for good works is that broad purpose that we all fall under that umbrella. But aside from that, there's an individual purpose that's specific to you and by extension specific to your business if you're a business owner. And so today I brought on Alicia Limbo who is
a life coach, she does sales, marketing, speaking, podcast, host, she does all kinds of things. But we're gonna talk about understanding your individual purpose and how that individual purpose drives everything else that you do. So Alicia, thank you very much for coming on board today. And to start off with, what is one way that you have found to honor God in your business that others may not know about?
(:Well
first off David, thank you for having me on. I'm just so excited to be here. It's such a privilege. Anytime that I get to talk about purpose and how we are all created for purpose, it just excites me. So thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me be here. Let's see. I'm trying to think of how I want to answer your question. I think everybody knows everything about me because I'm very open. I'm an open book. But one of the things that
has just really shaped my life is how I really, goes back to what you talk about in this podcast of purpose, right? Everything that I do, I try to run through the lens of does this line up with what God has for me? Does this line up with the purpose he has for me? And I really try to live with intention, which has actually been really powerful because the more I live with intention, I have found
Not that my schedule is opening up. It's still busy, but it's shifting. It's changing as I really say, open, ⁓ know, guide me in the direction that you want. Let me live it out how you want with the gifts and the talents you've given me. And with that intention, other things go off to the wayside. And so it's such a powerful thing to live a life of purpose and intention.
and watch as everything around you begins to shift. So thank you.
(:Yeah, no, living with intention, that's very good. I think of, when you say God lead me, I think of Jesus, who's very intentional, but I feel like he viewed interruptions as God's direction. I how often do people come and say, can you come heal my daughter? Can you come heal this person or that person? And he didn't argue with him saying, hey, I'm doing this. He's just like, okay, let's go. And he would go because, and what the fascinating thing was is I forget where it's at.
But he said, I have finished the work God has given to me. Most of us can't say we've finished anything, but yet he said, I finished the work God has given to me. And then he went on.
(:What a powerful thing to aspire to. Like, I know I'll never reach that, but I want to aspire to do that, to say, you know, God, I followed everything you've asked of me. I've done, I've listened. I've been a wise steward of my time. That, it's such a powerful thing. So I appreciate you bringing that up. I had not looked at it in that direction. So.
(:Yeah, no, not problem. I'm gonna sidetrack this, but it's interesting. ⁓ When you go to the grocery store, you don't go to the grocery store to buy everything in the store, do you? You just have a short list and you maybe fill a shopping cart and you go home. But with our time, what do we do? We buy everything. We wanna do everything. And so we treat, yeah, we treat time as this endless, but that's most the most limited resource on earth and we get it backwards.
And that's where to really, yeah, you're right. To just say, what is enough? What does God want me to do? Where do I draw the line? Is it a, I'm done at five, I'm done at seven, I'm done at three, or is it a specific amount of things? So it's very interesting when you look at that whole, how do I treat money and how do I treat time?
(:Yeah, and that is I look at, so I have five kids and my youngest will be turning 10 in just a few weeks. And the whole thing that let's see the days are long and the years are short. It's so true. And I say that so often because when you think of in the moment.
especially when they're toddlers and they're little kids, it's like, ⁓ my goodness, am I ever going to get through this season? And now as I look at my youngest being soon to be two digits, because two digits is such a big deal, but how fast it's gone and realizing how valuable time is. And I wish I would have realized it more when we were younger. And I think of this often of the older we get, the faster time goes, because I think we understand the value of it. But in that,
we still can be intentional. can still really go, God give me wisdom, give me guidance in how I walk things out. And here's the thing that I found has been so powerful is the more intentional I am and the more I really seek God first in everything that I say and do, it's almost like there are times I will walk out of a project and I'm thinking, how did I get it done so fast? Something that I thought, it's gonna take forever. And I go in and I say,
God, just give me wisdom. Help give me guidance on how to do this and do it well. And I can, it just, it's almost, and this doesn't happen all the time, but it's almost like a quick download happens. And I really think it's the Lord that when we honor Him with our time, when we honor Him with our purpose and our intention and our direction, He honors us back and says, okay, I'll give you that. Let's do it. And I can only attribute it to Him because like, here's an example.
I'm putting together this six week course with some of my coaching clients and I did some website stuff and all that. I have no idea how to do that. Normally I hire it out, but I'm like, I'm gonna try to do this and God give me the wisdom and how do you, and literally within just a few hours, I built it all out. I got it all done and all lined up.
That was not me, I'm telling you. Like that was totally the Lord. And I just, I love how God does that. I know he talks in Ephesians, which is one of my favorite books, but in there, he even talks about like, you know, working for the Lord wholeheartedly and really giving him everything of ours. And so, and that's not just like possessions, that's our time, that's our mind, that's our energy. And when we do that, how he just blesses us in return. It's just such a powerful thing.
(:Yep, absolutely. honors those. He says, I will honor those who honor me. Those who dishonor me, I will be lightly esteemed. Yes. And I think he does give us wisdom to do things. ⁓ Sharpening a sword, he talks about sharpening the axe before you go out and cutting the wood. It helps quite a bit. yeah. So, yeah. So what about individual purpose? Yeah. You talked about individual purpose. Let's get back to there real quick. ⁓ Whatever. Yeah.
What is individual purpose and how does that affect your life?
(:So what God has started showing me over the last few years, ⁓ I realized about three years ago that I was just floating through life. And I started to tell people I'm a recovering floater. And I say it in a sense of like, I looked and I went, man, I'm so busy with all these different things and I'm making such a difference. But it wasn't really dialed into the purpose that God had given me. Like it was things that I was okay at.
But it was more like, see, look at what I'm doing over here to see all the things I'm doing. And God's like, but it's not the giftings I've given you. It's not the individual purpose I've given you. And so, and I, I feel that Satan's biggest goal is to just keep us distracted and, to say, Hey, you know what, Alicia, go look at all this stuff over here. See, look at all these great things, really keeping our eyes off of the real purpose that God has for each one of us. And, and I truly believe that they're
is a purpose that each one of us only, like I can only create or ⁓ walk out the purpose that God has given me. It's not meant for anybody else. It's the, what he created, you know, he talks about it again in Ephesians, how we're his masterpiece. And if you think about that, like there's no other, we're all so different. We're also our own person. And so when we lean into those giftings and callings and not be pleasing others, not be all over the place and, I'm busy doing this.
saying, wait a second, okay, God, what's my individual purpose? What did you create me for? And one thing I've found is like for me, my purpose has now become to help people find their purpose because ⁓ I know what it's like to just float through life and ⁓ to then almost get sort of, I got to a point where I wasn't dreaming anymore, which sounds silly, not like the going to bed and waking up and that was a great dream.
but like not dreaming big of, God, what do you have for me? Waking up with such excitement to say, God, what are you gonna bring for me today? Like what ways can I grow? What ways can I honor you? And walking that out. And so I've learned to, as a recovering floater, I've learned to dream big into the purpose that God has for me. And it brings me such joy. Now, is it easy?
Absolutely not. Is it hard and challenging? Yes. But I also know there's no other place I'd rather be. So when one looks at individual purpose, ⁓ it's one of those things that I think it should bring you joy. It should bring you excitement. It should bring you a level of peace and contentment because God created that excitement in you, that joy in you, that peace in you for a reason. Like it does line up.
When you begin to say, I want you as my purpose. Here's what you've created me for. I'm going to walk it out. And it's, it's this amazing thing that this alignment comes into place and everybody's individual purpose is going to be very different. ⁓ you know, I look at you with engineering. It's so awesome that you do that. That is so beyond me. Like my mind does not go there at all, but what an amazing purpose and gifting for you.
And we all have those and it's learning that how do we walk out and how do we honor you in the process? Because I think really too, we want to glorify him in everything that we do. And walking out our individual purpose is the most powerful way to glorify him.
(:Hmm, very good. Very well said. It's interesting you say that you're a floater and that Satan wants to distract you. I think there's the two sides of either having you be lazy and passive and not doing anything, or if you're going to work a lot, well, let's distract you. Because it's the other thing is if you want to work, we'll just distract you all over the place. yes. So is.
individual purpose, how do we find that? Or is that something we discover, we come up with, or has that changed our life, or can you fill us in a little bit?
(:So ⁓ here's how I look at it is ⁓ our purpose is so massive. what God created for us, it's so big that we can't handle it all at once. It would overwhelm us. And I say that because even as I'm beginning to walk more intentionally in the giftings and the purpose God has for me, it can be overwhelming. And I just see a small snippet. And so
I believe it just even like in scripture where it talks about the master and the three servants and how he gives them the was like 10 shekels and five and one or something like that. And two of them go and they multiply it. They go and say, okay, God, you you gave me this, I'm gonna go and use it and I'm going to bring back and double it. And then the other one that was given one goes and buries it.
And then the master comes back and this, the one that buried is like so proud of themselves. Like I protected it and I kept it really safe. And it was, and here's the one and he just, what? Like you wasted it. And then he takes it and gives it to the other two that multiplied it. And so I believe as we lean in to what God has for us, as we seek him, as we put him first, he begins to reveal more and more of our purpose.
And it can shift. Like I don't think it's necessarily gonna say this is what it is and it's always gonna stay that way. But I believe the giftings and the talents, they're innate in us and we just get to use them and work with them and strengthen them. And so it's just a cool thing when you begin to, like for me as a coach helping people to identify them and to begin to walk them out and see that light pop on and go, ⁓
wow, okay, this is something that I didn't realize it was a gift and maybe I got distracted and didn't use it or maybe I went through an experience and I buried it because it hurt or whatever and digging that back up and using it. But here's what I will tell you and I sort of alluded to this earlier. When we walk out our purpose, when we live a life of intention, it requires us to become aware of things. Like it goes back to the floating, right?
If you're floating, you're not aware of what's going on around you and you have to stop and really step into a level of awareness. But it is hard. It's not easy. It isn't just going to be a bed of roses. But in that, it is the most rewarding thing. you really have to, think, build this mindset of going, my purpose is greater than the challenges I'm facing.
My purpose in honoring the Lord and walking out what he's asked me to do is greater than what I feel in the moment and pushing through that. so building up those things, building up how to look at it from a perspective that I think a positive mindset is always essential to as you walk out your purpose in recognizing that you can always trust the Lord in all of it.
We can truly trust that he will work out for good for those who love him. Like end of story. Like that's non-negotiable. If we love him and we're honoring him, he will work it out for good. Now it might not turn out how we exactly want it. It might be a little more challenging, but man, we gotta just trust him in it. So that's another, I think, powerful step in the process is learning to trust him and really shift your expectations of what your purpose might look like.
to line up with his expectations.
(:Very good. And I like what you said is that your individual purpose is bigger than what it is today. Because it grows with you. I always think of Joseph as that example of, I wish my line was, my purpose was just lined up like that. And he may not have seen the line for him either, because we just have what's written in Genesis, a leader at home, a leader in Poverty Hearts, a leader in the jail, a leader over Egypt. We just see that.
And I know my life is, I feel like just all over the place and it's like, what's that straight line? It doesn't look like a straight line. But it's even interesting with Joseph, it was still bigger than that because when he died, he said, when you die, God's gonna visit you and you will bring my bones out of here and go back to Canaan. ⁓ It was bigger, he understood the faith, the promise that it was bigger than him. And that's, think one the things we have to remember, even if our purpose is so huge, we're just,
part of God's bigger puzzle. And that's what need to remember.
(:But you think of even with his story, with Joseph's story, in order to get to all those things, he had to go through a lot. Like his brothers sold him into slavery and like tried to tell their dad, hey, I think he was eaten by a bear or whatever. And so then, and then you have Potiphar's wife that turns on him and accuses him and he goes to prison.
I mean, you think of what he went through and that is a powerful thing when we begin to see what Joseph, the whole story that he went through, it wasn't easy, but it was amazing. That's a mindset shift and a perspective shift of going from God, why are you doing this to me? I mean, Job too is a great example of saying, God, I'm going to trust you even in the times that it doesn't make sense because you were bigger than this and I just trust you.
Like you will redeem whatever the situation is, however you redeem it. It's going to be redeemed because God is good and he's faithful. And so I think when I go through really hard times in life, I never look at it and, ⁓ my goodness, God, why are you doing this? I can't believe, have you forgotten me? Instead it's, okay, God, I know you have a reason for this. What can I learn in this and how can I grow in this? And not only that, how can I impact others in this?
How can I use it to glorify you? that is like, it excites me now when I come to trials in my life. Not that I, I mean, it's so hard.
(:yeah, it's so hard. But yeah, you know, we were talking about Joseph and purpose and things like that. I was going to ask you, do you have an example of a story of an individual who didn't have purpose, then he found his purpose and what happened because of that?
(:⁓ So, I mean I have definitely a lot of coaching clients that have gone through that I would say that ⁓ Let me use my husband and I actually as an example Because it's been a really amazing experience because as I as I sort of shared with you a little bit ago of just Floating through life not having purpose as I've learned to shift into purpose
I have become a much more supportive spouse and with my husband's purpose. And that has been really the coolest thing to experience because I was floating through life for so long. almost, I think when we float through life or avoid change, a lot of it's out of fear, right? We're afraid of failure. We're afraid of the what ifs and we let the negative what ifs
run us from saying, okay, I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to move forward. And so it holds us back. Now, my husband is a dreamer. He loves to dream big. God has just given him this gift to come up with idea after idea after idea. And it's so cool. It is not cool when you are married to a wife that is not a dreamer and doesn't want to do anything and risk everything. And so when you have that,
It's not always great, right? So what's been really cool is as I've began to go, God, I know I need to dream bigger. I know that you have stuff that's so much bigger and I'm willing to just trust you in it. I'm willing to lean into you and do it. We are now doing it together and I'm letting, it's almost like I've been able to now step back instead of controlling everything for him as well. I've been able to step back and say, okay,
Now I see your gifts and I see your talents and I see your abilities and I get to now be a cheerleader for him instead of being like the hurdle or the roadblock. Say, no, no, no, we could fail. No, this could be bad. I get to stand back and say, God, use his purpose, use his gifts, use his talents. And so he we have a land surveying company. My husband's been a land surveyor for well over 20 plus years and is just really, really good at it.
And one of the things that he's always wanted to do is he's wanted to get into land development because he works with a lot of developers. And, you know, when you have a wife that's like, no, no, no, no. Like, I know we could lose everything. And I just wasn't willing to dream big. And last April, actually last right around March time frame, God just so clearly spoke to my heart and said, Alicia, this is going to be a big year. And I didn't know what that meant. I just said, OK, I'm just going to trust you. And then ⁓ really
towards the end of March, beginning of April, I felt like the Lord just very clearly said, this is a year for your husband to develop and you need to be open to it. And ⁓ now, mind you, if God had shared this with me a few years before, I wouldn't have been there. I wouldn't have been open to it, but God has been working in me. so I hadn't really shared any of this with my husband at the time, but he a few weeks later says, hey, I want you to come and look at this land with me. Now, my husband is
done this stuff over the years and I'll be like, okay, fine. I'll go look at it. But that's like as far as it's going to go. But we came out and we looked at this property and we walked it. And I said, Brad, let's go for it. Let's pursue it. And until God either really closes the doors or we walk through it. And that was end of April. leading up to then I had been working on our house at the time and just sort of painting and just doing lots of touch up. And so we
(:Yeah.
(:Said, okay, let's meet with some banks and let's see what happens. It was a very, very large sum of money that this land is 76 acres, a beautiful home and a shop on it. And it is right in city limits of the town that we live in. And which is just crazy thing. We just live in this little town in South Dakota, but it's a very wealthy town. so 76 acres and city limits is pretty crazy to think about.
So we began to go to the different banks and ⁓ bank after bank after bank said, absolutely not. We're not even going to look at it. But here's the thing. My husband had a dream and a purpose that God had laid on his heart and in that God had been working on my heart to also help him walk out that purpose as well. Right. And so ⁓ as we each bank that we went to, we learned, OK, we need to just tweak how we share and and work on this and recognize this part of the process and all that.
and do some shifting, right? And we learned from it. We didn't just go, well, they said no, so I guess it's just not a go. It's no, God's put this in there. Let's keep pursuing it. And Fifth Bank rolls around and they said, OK, we want to give you the money. Now, here's the fun part of the story is here we are. Ten months, we we end up closing on the place May 31st, I believe it was. So my husband is in the Army National Guard 26 years in and he had to leave on
Thursday, that Thursday for two weeks of annual training. We closed on the Friday after he left. So my kids and I moved and he was gone for the first two weeks. now I would love to say that it was smooth sailing. Like our goal was our house would sell right away at top dollar because the market was great. We would move through this development really fast. We would have all the lots sold by
fall and it would just be easy. It has not been easy. And I look at Joseph's story, right? Like in the process of the heartache, but our purpose, we know what God has for us. So now we're 10 months into it, but let me share with you a little bit of what's occurred in those 10 months and how God is so faithful. In that we, ⁓ last year, a couple of gals and I, formed what we call the rise of leadership retreat.
And we had 13 people come from all over the US. And we did a weekend leadership retreat with them. And we helped them dig into the identity of who they are, who God created them to be, the purpose for them, and all that. And so that was on this land that we bought. We end up having, ⁓ I ⁓ have a podcast called The Purpose Effect. And my co-host, who I ⁓ ended passing through.
And we met really for the first time, he's originally from California and he and his wife were in Michigan driving through on their motor home. And we had just met briefly right before that in Vegas and he said, can we stop by and say hi? said, absolutely. They ended up staying for an entire week in the meadow of this place of our land. And that's where we came up with the purpose effect podcast. in that, so now our house, our old house is finally after 10 months under contract.
and we're selling at the end of this month. Our development delays are way behind our budgets, way over than what we planned. But what's so cool in that is, again, it goes back to when I tell people your purpose is bigger than you, your purpose is going to come with challenges, your purpose is going to come with very uncomfortable moments. But it has to. And why does it have to? Because I have to recognize that God is good no matter what happens.
that God is way bigger than my purpose, my dreams, or any of that. And it's so much better. Even in the hard moments, I've been able to truly trust the Lord in it. And I've been able to watch my husband walk out his purpose in a very powerful way as well. And so that's what's so cool is when we begin to really work on our individual purpose, there's a ripple effect. And it impacts everybody. It's not just about us.
God looks at the big picture. We just limit ourselves to the little one. I often refer to our life as a tapestry. And we see the backside of a tapestry. And if you've ever seen a tapestry, you see it from the front. It's beautiful. The backside is a disaster. You have no idea what it even is usually. What is that? And so that's the side that we usually see life through. But on the other side, God's creating this masterpiece, and we get to be a part of it.
We just have to choose, we gonna step back and look at the big picture with God? Are we gonna stay in that little backside and go, ⁓ this is horrible? I'm choosing, I'm making a choice to say, God, I wanna look at it from your perspective. And wow, it's such a great spot to be in. So walking out your purpose is powerful and hard, but so good.
(:I agree. I agree. is a challenge. that's... Sermon on the Mount, the wise man, foolish man, it applies to so many things. But, you know, the wise man builds his house upon the rock versus building a house upon the sand. I have dug in the sand. It's super easy. I've helped build a house in the sand and running the drain pipes. It just goes quick. And I've also put edging into rocky clay soil. It's hard. Super hard. So I understand the difference and that's how it is with our life.
going God's way, it's more difficult at times, but it lasts, the results last a long time, very much worth it. ⁓ Alicia, we're about out of time right now, ⁓ but do you have any parting final words or challenge for my audience today that you'd, after all that we've said and done and talked about, that you'd like them to remember and be challenged with?
(:want them to understand to the core of their being that they are not a mistake, that they are not here just by happenstance, that they are created for a purpose, that they were created and that they are loved by the creator of the universe. Like, and I think when we begin to grasp that, and it's something that's so overwhelming, and I think it's very hard to really comprehend it, but if we just even get a little bit of it.
and begin to put that as our foundation of how we walk out our life, the most powerful shifting and the most powerful aligning begins to occur. ⁓ so that's what I want people to know. You're created for purpose. You're not here by mistake. Now go and do it.
(:Yes, and to add to that, ⁓ don't say, wish God would make me this way, because he made you for a purpose and you're not like anybody else and that's fine. So be grateful and run with who you are. Alicia, thank you so much for your time and your encouragement today. Talk about purpose, individual purpose.
