Speaker A:

The following footage is certified pg.

Speaker A:

Pretty great.

Speaker A:

It's Anomaly Presents with your friends, the podcastronauts.

Speaker A:

Sounds like a lot of supernatural baloney to me.

Speaker A:

Supernatural, perhaps baloney, perhaps not.

Speaker A:

Oh, hello and welcome to the Anomaly Presents podcast.

Speaker A:

The podcast about the genre movies that we have in a festival.

Speaker A:

th,:

Speaker A:

That's where we'll be doing it.

Speaker A:

Oh, man.

Speaker B:

Production.

Speaker A:

As you've no doubt ascertained, we are here in meatspace because this is our preview show.

Speaker A:

We do this every year.

Speaker A:

It's my favorite show.

Speaker A:

We do every year.

Speaker A:

All of them are my favorites, but this is my most favorite because we are here in the lunchadore studios at food About Town compound.

Speaker A:

The Food About Town pound.

Speaker C:

Super excited to have everybody here as always.

Speaker A:

We got producer Chris on the ones and twos ready for business.

Speaker A:

And the podcastronauts.

Speaker A:

We've got a super secret podcast tonight too.

Speaker A:

It's exciting.

Speaker D:

Oh, I'm assuming that's me.

Speaker A:

That's you.

Speaker A:

So our super secret podcastronaut is Adam.

Speaker A:

Cat's out of the bag.

Speaker A:

Adam Loubiteaux is with us tonight.

Speaker A:

Programmer extraordinaire.

Speaker D:

You're too kind.

Speaker A:

The guy behind the guy behind the guy.

Speaker D:

It's been a while since I've been on the podcast.

Speaker D:

Thanks for letting me back and welcoming me.

Speaker D:

And I going, you know what?

Speaker D:

You're not welcome here anymore.

Speaker B:

We invited you here for you to leave.

Speaker E:

We were recorded, both audio and video.

Speaker B:

Some of us are dedicated to podcasting.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Some of us enjoy being locked in our offices and basements for upwards of two hours every couple weeks or whatever.

Speaker A:

It happens.

Speaker A:

Anyway, so the reason we're here.

Speaker A:

I'm glad you're here, Adam, because you are the reason for the season.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

I mean, all of us are.

Speaker D:

It's a group effort.

Speaker E:

True.

Speaker A:

But you're the guy that finds all the cool stuff.

Speaker D:

I try.

Speaker B:

You do everybody.

Speaker B:

He did.

Speaker B:

Because this is the festival.

Speaker E:

So I just watched it happening.

Speaker D:

It happened.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it happened.

Speaker B:

The finding and the booking of the movies happened.

Speaker E:

The festival will be happening soon.

Speaker A:

Exactly.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

If you're telling.

Speaker A:

If you're listening, you know that we're a little punchy because the festival is next week, so we're getting there.

Speaker A:

So I will introduce the podcast or not that you're familiar with your old friends, your parasocial heroes.

Speaker A:

It's Kristin Palpacheco.

Speaker E:

I thought you were gonna say like old enemies.

Speaker B:

No, you can't Give it away.

Speaker A:

Oh, okay.

Speaker A:

You keep that close to the vest.

Speaker E:

All right, well, hi, everybody.

Speaker A:

And Megan Murphy.

Speaker B:

Hi, it's me.

Speaker B:

They can't get rid of me.

Speaker B:

They keep trying.

Speaker B:

I'm like, I showed up.

Speaker B:

Didn't give the address this time, but I knew deep in my heart did.

Speaker A:

Give you the address.

Speaker A:

Please don't lie to people.

Speaker B:

Just scratching at doors.

Speaker B:

Is there podcasting in here?

Speaker B:

Let me in.

Speaker A:

Days before Halloween.

Speaker D:

That's nice.

Speaker A:

And you're just trick or treating around the neighborhood, looking for a podcast studio.

Speaker A:

Like, oh, it's the weird guy down on the corner.

Speaker B:

I probably would have found at least one more before.

Speaker A:

It's true.

Speaker E:

Yeah, it's true.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

We are in suburbia.

Speaker A:

There's probably at least three podcast studios in this neighborhood.

Speaker B:

You're all doing great.

Speaker C:

Look, wherever there are men with beards, white men with beards, there's bound to be a podcast studio.

Speaker A:

That's what they do.

Speaker A:

Call a group of us as a podcast.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

So we'll roll into it.

Speaker A:

We are here to talk about the festival, the Anomaly Film Festival that's taking place mere days away.

Speaker A:

Passes and tickets are available@anomalyfilmfest.com.

Speaker A:

i bring that up now because we're about to go through every single movie that we are programming during the festival.

Speaker A:

And by the end, if you haven't already, I guarantee you're gonna be at the website picking up at least a ticket, if not a pass, because we got so much good stuff for you.

Speaker A:

And we're gonna kick it off with Wednesday night, November 5, 6:15 Eastern Time, at the little theater.

Speaker A:

It's the Traveler and the Troll and Dust Bunny.

Speaker A:

We can start with Travel and the Troll, because I think we've all seen that.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And it's.

Speaker A:

It's Adam Murray's short that precedes Dust Bunny.

Speaker A:

Our feature, our premiere feature for.

Speaker A:

Well, our first feature for the festival.

Speaker A:

So, Traveler and the Troll.

Speaker A:

What do we want to say about Traveler and the Troll?

Speaker E:

I think we were all immediately like, yes, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker B:

Like fantasy.

Speaker B:

Do you like puppets?

Speaker B:

We got the short for you.

Speaker E:

They said it's perfect with our theme this year on top of it.

Speaker B:

It'll get you ready for the rest of the fest.

Speaker B:

Watch the short and go, Ah, that's what they're going for.

Speaker B:

That's why we have trees up on the walls.

Speaker B:

Spoiler, rough trees up on the wall.

Speaker D:

And we talked before.

Speaker D:

The puppets are the way to anomalies heart.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Always.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker D:

A hot tip for filmmakers.

Speaker A:

If you're making stuff, please put puppets in it.

Speaker A:

And there's 79, 85% chance you're going to be in the festival next year.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So it's great.

Speaker A:

Erica Ishii.

Speaker A:

They're.

Speaker A:

They're the star.

Speaker A:

Along with a pretty cool puppet.

Speaker A:

It's just so much fun.

Speaker B:

Good stuff.

Speaker B:

It's a good classic like Question in the woods.

Speaker B:

And then I think I can out clever you.

Speaker B:

It's good stuff.

Speaker A:

It's a blast.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then our feature is Dust Bunny and I'm gonna throw it over to Adam because none of us have seen it yet except Adam.

Speaker A:

I know we are waiting with bated breath to see it.

Speaker D:

I feel like this is where I say I appreciate your trust in me.

Speaker D:

Matt and I are the only ones who have seen our opening night film, but I think this is gonna be to kick off this year's festival.

Speaker D:

It is.

Speaker D:

Got a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of action.

Speaker D:

It is the first feature film from Bryan Fuller of Pushing Daisies Hannibal fame.

Speaker D:

And it has all the visual sense that you would want from something from Bryan Fuller.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

And it's.

Speaker D:

It's about a little girl who has a monster under her bed and needs help killing it and learns that her neighbor may be pretty good in that arena.

Speaker D:

And the neighbor is played by Mads Mikkelsen veteran Bryan Fuller.

Speaker D:

Veteran, I guess veteran Bryan Fuller.

Speaker D:

Veteran, sure.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

He's in the Bryan Fuller troupe.

Speaker D:

Exactly.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

The ensemble.

Speaker D:

And yeah, the best way I can describe this is it's a little bit of Roald Dahl by way of John Wick.

Speaker D:

And I think to me, that sounds like an amazing combination.

Speaker D:

And it is.

Speaker D:

And so I hope people have fun with this one because, yeah, it's a blast.

Speaker E:

I'll be hiding in the balcony once I'm done with my clipboard, just listening to everyone's reactions.

Speaker A:

Sure.

Speaker A:

We'll all be peeking in or running in now and then.

Speaker A:

Just check it out because it looks like we saw the trailer ahead of the Howling and.

Speaker A:

And it was such a blast.

Speaker A:

It looks like it's so fun.

Speaker A:

So I'm super looking forward to seeing Dust Bunny on Wednesday at 6:15pm at the Little.

Speaker A:

Our next feature Wednesday night is nightstage, preceded by one night Cherub.

Speaker A:

What do we want to say about those?

Speaker B:

I would say the theme of that is, like, you know, sometimes it's not worth it.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Like, sexy times are great, but, like, when death gets involved, you just gotta stop.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

That's just from me to you.

Speaker B:

My aunt N. It's not worth it.

Speaker D:

But some people just need to Learn that the hard way.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

You get one chance and then you learn it real hard.

Speaker B:

Ha.

Speaker B:

Hard.

Speaker B:

That will make sense next week, I would say.

Speaker B:

They're both very queer.

Speaker B:

They both have a thriller element, a killer element.

Speaker B:

Night Stage is about a part of a mix of what if ambition and horniness overrides your natural sense of survival?

Speaker B:

And I'll tell you, on a personal level, when I was watching the Screener, about the halfway point, I didn't stop screaming at the screen for multiple characters to stop, stop, stop making these decisions.

Speaker B:

Which, of course, makes it a great film.

Speaker B:

It's got a little bit of camp.

Speaker B:

It's got a little bit of, like, giallo neon.

Speaker B:

You're watching people make bad decisions, but it's good for us.

Speaker B:

It's a ride.

Speaker B:

And I was cackling at the end.

Speaker B:

Just cackling.

Speaker B:

Gentlemen, why are you doing this in public?

Speaker B:

There's a killer out there.

Speaker B:

So that sounds like a good time.

Speaker B:

After Dust Bunny, stay for a little later and, you know, watch us get a little.

Speaker B:

A little adult.

Speaker B:

But also, don't worry, we have the kills in there too.

Speaker B:

Don't.

Speaker B:

Anomaly doesn't leave you hanging.

Speaker D:

If you love an erotic thriller as much as I do, this is for you.

Speaker E:

Yes, agreed.

Speaker E:

Hands down.

Speaker A:

And then we move to Thursday.

Speaker A:

Thursday is where we make our annual pilgrimage to the home of film, the Eastman House, the Dryden Theater.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

They keep letting us in.

Speaker B:

It's so weird.

Speaker D:

We haven't learned yet.

Speaker A:

We found a back door and they let us in.

Speaker A:

Somehow put a brick.

Speaker B:

Keep it open.

Speaker B:

Keep it open.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

So they've actually been really great with us.

Speaker A:

And one of the things that they.

Speaker A:

They enjoy doing is kind of digging through the vaults.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

To find cool stuff that maybe they haven't shown in a while or ever that might fit with the Anomaly sensibilities.

Speaker A:

And so far, we're three for three, I feel like.

Speaker B:

Oh, absolutely.

Speaker A:

Because this year we've got Cannonball.

Speaker B:

So fun.

Speaker A:

tel's follow up to Death Race:

Speaker E:

And it's preceded by Evenly Matched and.

Speaker A:

Preceded by Evenly Matched, which is such a joy.

Speaker A:

It's such a blast.

Speaker B:

And that's a local short, right?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

So it's a local documentary short.

Speaker E:

So we're, like, really hitting that.

Speaker E:

It's just about Community, which, if you're coming to Anomaly, I hope you experience that with the rest of us.

Speaker E:

So it felt like a great fit.

Speaker A:

Agreed.

Speaker A:

It's a different subset of Community where we're all geeking about films.

Speaker A:

They're gamers.

Speaker E:

Some of them are trying to game.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Gaming to different effect.

Speaker A:

But yeah, it's such a blast to watch them kind of learn and grow.

Speaker A:

And it's.

Speaker A:

It's a blast.

Speaker D:

It's.

Speaker A:

It's really fun documentary.

Speaker A:

And I think they're going to join us to kind of talk that over a little bit too.

Speaker E:

Yep.

Speaker A:

Which I'm really looking forward to.

Speaker A:

And then, yeah, Cannonball, which it's actually.

Speaker B:

I believe it's one of the first, if not the first of, you know, like when Hollywood's like, hey, we'd like an idea.

Speaker B:

And then like everybody goes for it.

Speaker B:

So everyone got really involved in the idea that there was this cross country race that they used to do.

Speaker B:

Or it's basically like, you know, it was two protest Speed limits.

Speaker B:

Yep.

Speaker B:

So the movie Gumball Rally and Cannonball Run are all based on the exact same thing that Cannonball is where it's a bunch of different people for different reasons in different vehicles racing across the country.

Speaker B:

No limits, no holds barred.

Speaker B:

The stuff happen.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Does David Carradine wear like this red hoodie, a red bandana and like no shirt sometimes?

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Yes, he does.

Speaker B:

yed in Death rate, death race:

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Just like in reality and not in the future.

Speaker B:

Does Sylvester Stallone show up?

Speaker B:

Maybe.

Speaker B:

I won't tell you, but you should show up just in case.

Speaker B:

Watch a movie full of camp fun, filled with goodies.

Speaker B:

Because Paul Bartel did not like making car movies and Corman made him make another one.

Speaker B:

So watch someone not wanting to make this film make this film.

Speaker B:

And it's kind of a joy.

Speaker D:

I was gonna say joy is exactly the word I was gonna use.

Speaker D:

Like it is a joy to watch.

Speaker D:

And yeah, he hides it well if he did not want to do this because.

Speaker B:

Yeah, that's why he puts in a musical note.

Speaker B:

He wrote a Cole Porter number for him to perform.

Speaker B:

That's why baby Joe Dante and baby Alan Arkosh, Roger Corman.

Speaker B:

Like anyone who showed up on set kind of got in the film.

Speaker A:

I think you can see where he's just trying to entertain himself.

Speaker A:

But it's so fun.

Speaker B:

Yeah, he entertains us too.

Speaker B:

So it's a gift.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's a blast.

Speaker A:

And as usual, that's our only film on Thursday.

Speaker A:

But we pack a lot in on Thursday night.

Speaker A:

Friday we go and we're changing it up.

Speaker A:

This year we're kind of experimenting.

Speaker A:

We're going to launch the weekend a little earlier than we usually do at 3pm We've got a really cool shorts program for you, so sneak out of work early.

Speaker A:

If you haven't taken the time off, you may want to get a.

Speaker A:

Put a doctor's appointment in.

Speaker B:

Is that tickle in your throat?

Speaker B:

Oh, no.

Speaker E:

Anomaly will prescribe you.

Speaker E:

Yeah, an hour or two off of work.

Speaker B:

We'll write a note.

Speaker B:

It'll be f to say.

Speaker A:

Can we put that up on Social?

Speaker A:

A doctor's note for Friday.

Speaker D:

That is an amazing idea.

Speaker B:

I'm making a note.

Speaker B:

Don't worry, it's going to be real official, everybody.

Speaker B:

Yeah, don't tell them where you got it from.

Speaker A:

Signed, Mrs.

Speaker A:

Anomaly.

Speaker E:

I guess the potato or.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah, little guy.

Speaker D:

I like that.

Speaker E:

Signed by the potato co.

Speaker A:

Signed by Gordy Pumpkin.

Speaker C:

Dr. Gordo.

Speaker A:

Dr. Gordo.

Speaker B:

That's the little guy.

Speaker B:

Oh, you're right.

Speaker B:

You're right.

Speaker B:

We should get two signatures that are both fake, but make it okay.

Speaker B:

I like where this is duplicate.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Should we talk about like a couple shorts?

Speaker A:

Yeah, why don't we talk about the kind of the.

Speaker A:

A couple of the shorts in that program.

Speaker A:

Something to kind of wet everybody's whistle for their early afternoon sojourn to the little.

Speaker E:

I remember the last film that's in that.

Speaker B:

Oh, hell yeah.

Speaker E:

Yeah, it's Norma with Nicole Byer.

Speaker B:

I want to.

Speaker B:

I want to be Norma.

Speaker E:

Well, some way.

Speaker B:

Some of her decisions might be an issue.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

I was very excited to see how Adam decided to program the shorts and was very pleased to see that one kind of round one out because it felt right.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

We've tortured our audience so much in past shorts programs with the last short.

Speaker B:

So this, this is a joy.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker E:

Sending you off with love.

Speaker B:

I like Invasion 53.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Hey, everybody.

Speaker B:

I want to like, Jeffrey Combs is in it.

Speaker B:

And like, if you're a particular kind of like, genre film, you're already there.

Speaker B:

You've already bought your ticket.

Speaker B:

Watch him be, you know, maybe not fully human in a nice Black and white like 60s sci fi pastiche, but like within, like just with, let's see, 10 minutes.

Speaker B:

10 minutes.

Speaker B:

Like you'd watch this whole film but with 10 minutes.

Speaker B:

And then we have a whole bunch of other shorts.

Speaker B:

It's good.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it is.

Speaker A:

Chuck Full.

Speaker A:

It's the name of the program is Freaky and funny shorts.

Speaker A:

And it's heavy on the funny.

Speaker A:

Like, oh, yeah, I'm flipping through the lineup in here and I'm like, oh, no, I laughed out loud.

Speaker B:

It.

Speaker B:

I think all of these seance for the gram.

Speaker B:

Hey, hey.

Speaker B:

Are you sick of influencers and you think, like, maybe they're uncaring and deserve a little revenge whore.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Hey.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

I don't want to spoil.

Speaker B:

I'm not gonna spoil it.

Speaker B:

I'm gonna say, watch the ring light and see what happens.

Speaker B:

I gasped and then laughed.

Speaker A:

I take it back.

Speaker A:

There's maybe one or two in here I didn't laugh at.

Speaker A:

I don't want you all to think I'm a social.

Speaker B:

Yeah, like, looking at the list.

Speaker A:

Denim winner.

Speaker A:

I don't think I laughed at that.

Speaker D:

I was going to say leave it to listeners to decide which ones you found hilarious.

Speaker B:

If you find it funny, that's valid.

Speaker E:

I'm sure you'll tell us afterwards.

Speaker E:

You can let us know.

Speaker A:

Why did no one talk to Matt after Friday?

Speaker B:

Well.

Speaker A:

He said he left it every short in that one.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then we move right along and we go into at 6:15.

Speaker A:

I'm saying these times on purpose because I want you to be prepared and make sure that you're in your seats on time because we've got so much good stuff for you.

Speaker A:

It's empty Jars and A Useful Ghost.

Speaker A:

Now, we'll talk about mgrs first, because I think more of us have seen that one.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah, it's.

Speaker B:

It is just.

Speaker B:

I mean, I don't want to play favorites, but I think it's one of the shorts that just hit all the buttons for me.

Speaker B:

It's a store.

Speaker B:

It's like a beautiful story, but also it's creepy.

Speaker B:

But also it's a bit of like, what happened?

Speaker B:

And it's beautiful.

Speaker B:

It just, you know, there's certain things are just like a nice, complete story.

Speaker B:

And it's wild that it's just a short.

Speaker B:

Like, I would watch more of this, but it tells you everything.

Speaker B:

It's.

Speaker B:

It's this.

Speaker B:

I.

Speaker B:

It's.

Speaker B:

It's a fun idea that I haven't quite seen.

Speaker B:

Done well.

Speaker E:

Yeah, it felt unique and it was very satisfying.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Also, dudes, take that as you will.

Speaker E:

Dudes.

Speaker B:

Dudes.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker B:

A running theme, perhaps.

Speaker B:

Dudes.

Speaker B:

Are they worth it?

Speaker C:

Just guys being dudes.

Speaker B:

Just guys being dudes.

Speaker E:

That's a podcast.

Speaker B:

I mean, positive or negative for you, we'll see.

Speaker B:

And then we all look at Adam.

Speaker A:

Adam, what do you think of our Useful Ghost?

Speaker D:

Hey, I really like this movie.

Speaker D:

Wouldn't it be terrible if I was just like this one?

Speaker D:

This is the dud in the bunch.

Speaker A:

Here's your dinner break, everybody.

Speaker A:

No, we never say that.

Speaker D:

No, we continue the possession through line with A Useful Ghost, a film from Thailand that I saw at tiff and didn't know much about.

Speaker D:

And it just, it is a surprise at every turn.

Speaker D:

The basic premise, as much as you can even try to describe this movie, is about a guy whose family owns an appliance factory.

Speaker D:

His wife has recently passed away and he discovers that her spirit has been reincarnated in a vacuum cleaner.

Speaker A:

Oh, that old chestnut.

Speaker D:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker D:

But from that premise it goes so many unexpected places that I just found endlessly delightful.

Speaker D:

It's a ghost story, It's a romance, It's a satire.

Speaker D:

It's got some things to say about capitalism.

Speaker A:

Love that.

Speaker D:

It's.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

And as surprising as it is to hear, as it was when I first heard this, it is Thailand's official submission to the Oscars this year.

Speaker A:

Is that right?

Speaker B:

Oh, I love it.

Speaker B:

I love that.

Speaker D:

Which is a bold swing that I really respect.

Speaker B:

Let the vacuum accept the award.

Speaker B:

Let the vacuum accept the award.

Speaker B:

Come on.

Speaker E:

Like when Godzilla minus zero had won and they went up there with their Godzillas.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker D:

So great.

Speaker A:

It's continuing our streak of finding the film that somebody is going to submit for the Oscar.

Speaker A:

Robot Dreams and Flo.

Speaker A:

Right, Flo last year.

Speaker A:

And Useful Ghost this year.

Speaker B:

So you're welcome.

Speaker A:

That's what I keep saying.

Speaker A:

This is why Adam is the greatest.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Because he finds these diamonds in the rough.

Speaker D:

Oh, wow.

Speaker A:

Here we go.

Speaker A:

Impressive.

Speaker B:

Professional.

Speaker A:

He's a professional.

Speaker A:

So at 9:30 on Friday night we've got Reflections of a Dead diamond preceded by Dranomania.

Speaker A:

We'll start with drainomania.

Speaker E:

Yeah, I'd say hashtag relatable, since I like to clean a lot.

Speaker E:

You just make sure you're in a well ventilated space, that's all.

Speaker B:

We're here to help with our programming sometimes, you know.

Speaker E:

Yeah, it's educational.

Speaker E:

Yeah, I like that.

Speaker A:

We programmed the educational shortage.

Speaker A:

9:30 at night.

Speaker B:

Well, listen, that's where we could fit it in.

Speaker E:

All right.

Speaker E:

Public access television.

Speaker A:

And then Reflections of a Dead diamond, which.

Speaker A:

Who wants to grab that?

Speaker A:

I have not seen it yet.

Speaker A:

I am very excited to see it.

Speaker A:

Based on.

Speaker A:

Based on what Meg has told me about it.

Speaker A:

I'm excited.

Speaker B:

We'll share it.

Speaker B:

I'll start.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Hey, do you like James Bond?

Speaker B:

No, not James Bond.

Speaker B:

Do you like, like the Euro Spy ripoffs?

Speaker B:

Like, you know, like a good like Italian version that doesn't understand copyright and doesn't care to.

Speaker B:

This is a movie.

Speaker B:

Also, hey, do you like Fumetti?

Speaker B:

Those kind of photo comics that perhaps you know, where it's like, it's.

Speaker B:

It's Photo.

Speaker B:

Anyway.

Speaker B:

Do you like Danger Diabolic?

Speaker E:

These are.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

These are all things that you're going to want to like.

Speaker B:

And then you're going to watch this movie which is like this visual like kaleidoscope of a.

Speaker B:

An old maybe spy who's remembering the good old days.

Speaker B:

But maybe he was an actor instead.

Speaker B:

Maybe this doesn't happen.

Speaker B:

Was it just a story in a book also?

Speaker B:

Everything bright, bright, shiny, shiny.

Speaker B:

There's like a killer sequence.

Speaker B:

Diamonds.

Speaker B:

Yes, there are diamonds.

Speaker E:

I would hope so.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And full Danger Diabolic like costume.

Speaker B:

It's great.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So excited for that.

Speaker D:

It is.

Speaker D:

I don't know how I can top that.

Speaker D:

There's sound effects.

Speaker D:

Yeah, it is.

Speaker B:

I'm keeping the asmr.

Speaker B:

I got like, I can't let it go anymore.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Very much a vibe film that I think people are going to find delightful.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Visually incredible.

Speaker D:

And.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Just if you're.

Speaker D:

If any of the things that Meg said are up your alley, I think you will enjoy this one.

Speaker A:

I can't wait.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

I was like, you're gonna like this one.

Speaker C:

This is the.

Speaker A:

I am like beside.

Speaker A:

I just want to sit in the theater right now.

Speaker A:

That's why I was like pausing.

Speaker A:

I was like, oh, man.

Speaker B:

Imagining I was just having my own moment.

Speaker A:

Very sorry, everybody.

Speaker A:

This is how excited I get about the festival is I just picture myself in the theater even though I could have watched.

Speaker A:

Never mind.

Speaker A:

It's a whole thing.

Speaker A:

Anyway.

Speaker A:

Saturday, November 8th.

Speaker A:

We start out with our second shorts program for the first time.

Speaker A:

I think this is the first time we've done two shorts programs since the gas leak year.

Speaker A:

And it's the strange and spooky Saturday shorts where we had the action packed and funny ones on Friday.

Speaker A:

Now we're going into strange and spooky, but also sometimes funny.

Speaker A:

Just, you know, we like to give you a mix.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Also gross.

Speaker E:

We got Skeeter in there, which is a two time anomaly alum.

Speaker E:

We forgot about the zombies and we joined a cult.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Three for three for three.

Speaker B:

I would probably say this is the grossest one.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Complimentary.

Speaker B:

Complimentary.

Speaker A:

We do love our gross.

Speaker B:

We have.

Speaker B:

Okay, speaking of phony, I got the one I watched and said, this is the one that lives in my heart.

Speaker B:

Evil dinner.

Speaker B:

Like, it also has puppets and you know, like, okay, if you.

Speaker B:

Something like.

Speaker B:

If like a pizza gets delivered to you and you didn't like order it or something like you never know what's in the box.

Speaker B:

That's all I'm saying.

Speaker B:

I'm just saying you never know what's in the box.

Speaker B:

But luckily for us, it's not just a regular pizza and we have a good time.

Speaker B:

I. I had a good time.

Speaker B:

Oh, I had a great time.

Speaker B:

The guy, not so much.

Speaker A:

Tether is in there.

Speaker B:

Oh, my God.

Speaker B:

Like, and.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Tether is a short that I could have sat and watched a feature of.

Speaker D:

I was gonna say, I feel like there are a bunch in this program in particular that I'm like, I hope they go back and revisit some of these concepts because any one of them could be features and would be incredible.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B:

And Tether's like, gorgeous.

Speaker B:

It's got that lovely, like, sci fi world building in such a short amount of time.

Speaker B:

Another one that has kind of some world building a short amount of time is Amira.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker D:

Which is exactly the one I was looking at when I say that I want to see that feature.

Speaker B:

Oh, my God.

Speaker B:

That's.

Speaker B:

Again, it's.

Speaker B:

It's always wild to me, like when someone can fit in so much in a short and it doesn't feel overstuffed.

Speaker B:

It doesn't feel.

Speaker B:

It goes.

Speaker B:

It is just the right amount of time to tell that story.

Speaker B:

And what a compliment to be.

Speaker B:

I wish there was more like you leave it with.

Speaker B:

Damn.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Give me more.

Speaker D:

A world I've never seen before.

Speaker D:

But yeah.

Speaker D:

That I just want to spend more time in.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Well, I'll watch.

Speaker B:

I don't wanna live there.

Speaker D:

No.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Good luck, little children.

Speaker B:

Musicians, have fun.

Speaker E:

Let me enjoy this from the safety of my movie theater.

Speaker B:

My clumsy fingers.

Speaker B:

It wouldn't go good for me is all I'm saying.

Speaker A:

We'll revisit that on Saturday morning around lunchtime.

Speaker A:

You'll realize how funny that is.

Speaker B:

I like to preload the jokes.

Speaker B:

Yeah, get them in there.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I love watching it dawn on people afterwards.

Speaker A:

It's great.

Speaker A:

And then any other shorts we want to talk about before we move on to the aftermath.

Speaker E:

I could just keep going.

Speaker E:

So we should probably keep it going.

Speaker A:

We'll leave some surprises in there.

Speaker A:

Just know that historically the Saturday shorts program is one of our most popular programs.

Speaker A:

And for a reason this year is.

Speaker A:

Is.

Speaker A:

No, yeah, it's.

Speaker A:

It's.

Speaker A:

You gotta go.

Speaker A:

It's great.

Speaker A:

Then we move on to by design at 2pm Appreciated by reddening.

Speaker A:

Now, I haven't seen Reddening yet.

Speaker E:

I'll take Reddening and then give it.

Speaker E:

Give Meg By Design.

Speaker E:

Reddening is.

Speaker E:

If you enjoyed after blue.

Speaker E:

This is for you.

Speaker D:

Big After Blue vibes.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker E:

And I feel like it connects really well to Bob By Design.

Speaker E:

You will understand after you see it.

Speaker E:

I don't want to spoil it for you.

Speaker B:

Very like.

Speaker C:

Is By Design a sequel to In Fabric?

Speaker A:

Not directly a good question, but you're not far off.

Speaker E:

Yeah, yeah, you're asking the right question.

Speaker A:

You'll notice how pregnant a pause that was when you asked that.

Speaker E:

Oliver's just staring off into the distance.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

Of course I loved this film.

Speaker B:

I love Amanda Kramer, director.

Speaker B:

I love her work.

Speaker B:

But it's very singular.

Speaker B:

So here's the thing.

Speaker B:

Like, this is the like Gamble film for you.

Speaker B:

Like, it's very weird, complimentary.

Speaker B:

It's very different.

Speaker B:

Complimentary.

Speaker B:

The story, oddly enough, the second movie we have which is about a woman becoming an object.

Speaker B:

In this film, Juliette Lewis is in this little.

Speaker B:

This also movie stuck a little close to home.

Speaker B:

She's a middle aged woman who maybe feels that she's not heard or seen or valued in her life.

Speaker B:

But she finds this really beautiful chair and she wishes so hard and admires it so much that her soul transfers to the chair.

Speaker B:

So now she has just her body, which goes on and lives her life.

Speaker B:

And it's a bit of a statement that it doesn't really change.

Speaker B:

Her friends talk to her the same way her mom talks to her the same way.

Speaker B:

No one seems to notice that she is a slumped over body.

Speaker B:

Whereas as the chair, this, this man kind.

Speaker B:

Well, it ends up being a gift.

Speaker B:

It's messy.

Speaker B:

But he loves this chair.

Speaker B:

It's gorgeous chair.

Speaker B:

He senses the soul in the chair.

Speaker B:

Like, what if you were just seen as your soul?

Speaker B:

Right?

Speaker B:

Or if you're seen as a soul.

Speaker B:

And oddly enough, the objectification is positive in this because she has use and love and.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker B:

Hey, everybody.

Speaker B:

I don't want to break down in a film where there's like dance numbers and a chair is a person.

Speaker B:

But it might, it might happen or it might not click.

Speaker B:

But that is okay because I'll be there crying again, thinking I processed it and I didn't.

Speaker E:

And they were like another thing that I missed.

Speaker B:

No, but yeah, if you liked in fabric.

Speaker B:

I think there's a similarity in a weird satirical idea that also has emotional heft.

Speaker A:

Yeah, for sure.

Speaker D:

I would agree.

Speaker B:

Thank you for my therapy session.

Speaker E:

No, thank you for sharing.

Speaker E:

I love your passion for this film.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker A:

From there we go to 4:45pm at the Little theater.

Speaker A:

As always, except for on Thursday.

Speaker A:

Don't forget, 4:45pm it is Mother of Flies, the latest addams family movie.

Speaker A:

1d in Addams, our friends that made Hellbender Hellbender a couple years ago.

Speaker A:

Hell hole.

Speaker A:

That was on shudder.

Speaker B:

Where the devil roams.

Speaker A:

Where the devil roams.

Speaker A:

They've been prolific.

Speaker A:

I think it's been a movie every year since Hellbender.

Speaker A:

They are just on an absolute bender that didn't work.

Speaker B:

A tear through reality.

Speaker E:

I feel like benders come through a disastrous end, and we don't want that for them.

Speaker A:

No.

Speaker A:

So far, every single one has been fantastic.

Speaker A:

And mother of flies is.

Speaker A:

Is no exception.

Speaker A:

It's preceded by vowels.

Speaker A:

Who wants to speak on vowels?

Speaker E:

I can speak on vowels because I haven't seen mother of flies, but very excited vowels just kind of sticks with you.

Speaker E:

It's.

Speaker E:

And also, you know, our whole theme of, like, dudes.

Speaker E:

This one is also dude.

Speaker B:

Yep, yep, yep, yep.

Speaker E:

Visceral.

Speaker E:

Yeah, that's.

Speaker B:

That's the perfect word.

Speaker B:

Visceral.

Speaker E:

Visceral.

Speaker D:

Vowels.

Speaker B:

Yep, yep, yep.

Speaker A:

Another one.

Speaker A:

Another one.

Speaker B:

Yeah, Yep.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

I feel like there is probably more of those, actually.

Speaker E:

There are more dudes later in our schedule, right?

Speaker A:

Yeah, it comes through.

Speaker A:

There's a pretty good line there.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker E:

But mother of flies.

Speaker A:

Mother of flies.

Speaker B:

I mean, I could talk about it again, but I feel like I'm taking a lot of oxygen right now.

Speaker B:

It will be less as we go on, but go for it.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Because this is another one I liked quite a bit.

Speaker B:

And it's.

Speaker B:

It's dealing a bit with, like.

Speaker B:

Okay, what I like about this, because it's about there's a young woman and she's had terminal cancer, and she's at the point of, like, there's nothing else to do.

Speaker B:

And she has a father who's trying to be supportive.

Speaker B:

And she has found through some ways.

Speaker B:

You learn in the movie that there is a witch in the woods who says that she can heal her.

Speaker B:

And this is a bit about nature and humanity, a bit about sometimes the cure is hard and terrifying, but you wouldn't do it if you knew.

Speaker B:

I think there's a bit of the what does a witch do?

Speaker B:

Which tells the truth.

Speaker B:

Maybe it's not the whole truth, because you're not ready for the whole truth, and you get guided to the rest of it.

Speaker B:

And it's a bit about belief and the horror of illness and how ugly it can be and how horrible, but also walking that path anyway, and it's just gorgeous.

Speaker B:

Hey, do you like moss covered, Right?

Speaker B:

Do you like snakes coming out of places?

Speaker B:

Maybe they don't.

Speaker B:

Do you Maybe like, oh, is that a grave?

Speaker B:

Also?

Speaker B:

There's a witch story in there, too.

Speaker B:

It's good stuff.

Speaker B:

I love it.

Speaker B:

It's very of.

Speaker B:

It's very on theme, but it's also just, I think, theme in general of dark times and sometimes that hope is prickly and thorny and nasty, but it's what's going to get you through.

Speaker D:

Yeah, it's got that good folk horror married to the.

Speaker D:

All the thematic heft that you described with, you know, the Addams aesthetic.

Speaker D:

I feel like they have.

Speaker D:

Their films have a very specific feel to them that is very tactile, let's say.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's like the side of our reality.

Speaker B:

Like it's our reality but a little on the side side, you know.

Speaker B:

I love that it's a pocket reality with snakes.

Speaker A:

Pockets full of snakes.

Speaker A:

With the animation.

Speaker D:

Coming 20, 26.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

Pitch that to Zelda.

Speaker A:

Yeah, she might be into it.

Speaker D:

Oh, that's right.

Speaker D:

We should say that Zelda Addams will be joining us for a Q and A after the film.

Speaker A:

Yeah, looking forward to that.

Speaker A:

We had.

Speaker A:

We had her parents here a couple years ago, so we're collecting all the Adams.

Speaker B:

They trust us.

Speaker A:

Then at 8pm, it's the latest from Albert Bernie.

Speaker A:

It's Obex, preceded by Blue Light.

Speaker E:

Blue Light's Fun.

Speaker E:

You get a little like computer musical.

Speaker B:

It's a musical.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

And it's a joy with lovely songs.

Speaker B:

And I feel like a very cathartic ending for many of us.

Speaker B:

I was like, yes.

Speaker B:

I wish that had happened in lots of other situations.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And I have not seen Obex yet, but I loved Strawberry Mansion so much.

Speaker A:

So what do we want to say about Obex?

Speaker D:

Obex is.

Speaker D:

Yeah, I feel everything you want from an Albert Bernie film.

Speaker D:

That imaginative, creativity, handcrafted aesthetic in.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

Ode to old school video games and.

Speaker E:

VHS too.

Speaker D:

Yeah, definitely.

Speaker B:

Like analog.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Thank you.

Speaker B:

I saw your fingers and I knew you meant analog.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker D:

Thank you.

Speaker D:

I appreciate it, Meg.

Speaker D:

Also an adorable dog.

Speaker A:

What's not to love?

Speaker E:

Hey, Sandy.

Speaker D:

Who captured the Anomaly team's heart immediately?

Speaker A:

Everybody's Team Sandy 100%.

Speaker A:

And then again, we're in an experimental mood this year, I feel.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's 10.

Speaker D:

The movies are a little weirder than previous years, but in the best way.

Speaker B:

We need them.

Speaker B:

We need the weird ones.

Speaker B:

The universe provides.

Speaker B:

And sometimes the universe, like, you know what you need your brain to get whacked so off a course that it heals itself on the way back on.

Speaker A:

The road for sure.

Speaker A:

And with that, at:

Speaker B:

For good reason.

Speaker A:

It's Anything that Moves.

Speaker A:

And it's preceded by Starcrossed.

Speaker A:

I have not seen Star Crossed yet.

Speaker A:

I feel like I'm saying I haven't seen much.

Speaker A:

I'm very excited about our lineup because everybody's in for a treat, including me, apparently.

Speaker B:

I think Star Crossed is just like, hey, careful on the apps, y'.

Speaker B:

All.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker D:

Maybe a cautionary tale.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's a cautionary.

Speaker B:

I don't want to spoil, but a cautionary tale, everybody.

Speaker B:

But funny but also a little gory.

Speaker B:

And that fits with Anything that Moves.

Speaker A:

Yes, yes.

Speaker A:

It's Alex Phillips's new film.

Speaker A:

I don't know if anybody's seen.

Speaker A:

All Jacked up and Full of Worms.

Speaker E:

I missed that one.

Speaker E:

I'm so sorry.

Speaker B:

Best title.

Speaker D:

It's so good.

Speaker A:

It ran a children's morning at the Irondicoi library at night.

Speaker A:

No, it's great.

Speaker A:

It's got its own style and so does Anything that Moves.

Speaker A:

This is one I have seen and I'm very excited about.

Speaker A:

Believe it or not, it's an erotic thriller for sure.

Speaker B:

Yes, yes.

Speaker A:

It's shot on 16 millimeter.

Speaker A:

It's grimy as all hell, but it's also really pretty in places.

Speaker B:

Oh, it's so pretty.

Speaker A:

Anybody that stood still long enough and I've talked about this movie, I was like, it's the most sex positive body positive body horror, serial killer movie I've ever seen in my life.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah, for sure.

Speaker B:

It's about community.

Speaker A:

It's about community.

Speaker B:

Yeah, Yeah.

Speaker D:

I was gonna say all that.

Speaker D:

It's got a lot of heart to it, which you wouldn't expect, but I feel like adds that extra little bit of joy.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Like, is it explicit?

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah, totally.

Speaker B:

Is it gory?

Speaker B:

100%.

Speaker B:

But also, like, it pulls off this, like, this miracle of like, I felt warm after.

Speaker B:

I'm like, yeah, I like.

Speaker B:

I like these people.

Speaker B:

I like these characters.

Speaker B:

I like that idea.

Speaker B:

Like, no sex is good.

Speaker B:

Pleasure is good.

Speaker B:

You know, and what is.

Speaker B:

What is.

Speaker B:

The antagonist is greed, selfishness, violence.

Speaker B:

Someone who could have that love, too, but insists on.

Speaker B:

It's only mine.

Speaker B:

Or I need to judge you for it or I'm wrong for it.

Speaker B:

Like, it's all the.

Speaker B:

Like, it's all the good.

Speaker B:

The good story.

Speaker B:

Like, yeah, that love is there and maybe don't be killing people.

Speaker B:

You could have it.

Speaker B:

He's on the app.

Speaker B:

Liam is on the app.

Speaker B:

Just order.

Speaker B:

Order a sandwich, wink from the app, and you can too, can have a golden, tinkly music orgasm.

Speaker B:

Like those exist in the world.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's like you said, it's just a beautiful, fun little movie that.

Speaker A:

Yeah, there's a ton of sex and violence in it, but it's in a fun way.

Speaker A:

ike it just got ripped out of:

Speaker E:

That's what I was gonna say.

Speaker E:

I was like, it feels like I time traveled.

Speaker E:

Like we have an app, we have phones.

Speaker E:

But also like everything.

Speaker E:

The look and feel of it is.

Speaker B:

So 70s and like, not in a. I'm trying to be a 70s movie, but in that genuine, like, weird way.

Speaker E:

Like we time traveled.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Like how 70s allowed itself to be weird and sexy and a little uncomfortable.

Speaker B:

That.

Speaker B:

That, like, it's an.

Speaker B:

Like, actually it came from the 70s, but you have to have the app.

Speaker B:

Snacks, triple X at the end.

Speaker B:

Wink.

Speaker E:

Maybe it's a pocket universe.

Speaker B:

Oh, I like that.

Speaker B:

I like that.

Speaker E:

Similar to your Mother of flies, where less snakes.

Speaker D:

Y.

Speaker B:

Well, I guess a different kind of.

Speaker B:

We can't beat that.

Speaker A:

Good God.

Speaker A:

So anything that moves, stick with us for a late night treat.

Speaker A:

It's a goodie.

Speaker A:

Come back in the morning early.

Speaker A:

Don't look at me like that.

Speaker E:

No, I was like, we'll be there with donuts.

Speaker E:

That's what I was going to say.

Speaker E:

We'll be there with your donuts and coffee.

Speaker E:

And by we, I mean you and.

Speaker B:

I, the morning people.

Speaker B:

You don't.

Speaker B:

Some of us you don't need to see in the morning because we like you and we don't want you to hate us.

Speaker A:

Traditionally, yes.

Speaker A:

up at early for us, which is:

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

So we come and we have donuts and coffee and in the mouth.

Speaker A:

Preceded by Manny Wolf.

Speaker E:

Manny Wolf is such a joy.

Speaker E:

He is a precious peach.

Speaker B:

He's dude positive.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker B:

It's not all just dude.

Speaker B:

Negative.

Speaker B:

Manny Wolf.

Speaker B:

Good guy, good bro, good werewolf.

Speaker E:

I want nothing but the best for him.

Speaker B:

I. I want him to do so well.

Speaker B:

We're all Manny Wolf fans here, everybody.

Speaker B:

And then in the mouth, which sounds like it should be anything that moves.

Speaker A:

It's true.

Speaker E:

Which is the opposite of it feels.

Speaker A:

Very much the opposite of that.

Speaker A:

It's a.

Speaker A:

How would you describe it, Adam?

Speaker A:

Because it's kind of hard to put your arms around.

Speaker D:

It's a dark comedy, a little bit noir.

Speaker D:

Also a very deadpan sense of humor.

Speaker D:

That really tickled me.

Speaker A:

It hit for me in a big way.

Speaker A:

It's very funny, but it's Very dry.

Speaker A:

Mm.

Speaker B:

Got that.

Speaker B:

It's a little surreal.

Speaker B:

I see a lot of surreal.

Speaker B:

I take that back.

Speaker B:

There is at least one element that's pretty.

Speaker B:

Pretty damn surreal.

Speaker B:

I appreciate that.

Speaker B:

This is the filmmaker dealing with his own agoraphobia and about, like, not wanting to leave and that fear, even though.

Speaker B:

Okay, here's the thing.

Speaker B:

I'm trying to give the main character a lot of grace, but there are times I'm like, dude, you have to fix this, please.

Speaker B:

Which I think is what the movie is kind of getting you into his head.

Speaker B:

You're like, my man.

Speaker E:

Just make different decisions.

Speaker B:

This is.

Speaker B:

Dude up.

Speaker B:

Dude, I need.

Speaker B:

I need you to be better.

Speaker B:

I need you to be better.

Speaker B:

And the movie's about him trying very hard.

Speaker B:

Just.

Speaker B:

It's tough.

Speaker A:

It's.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it's hard to overcome that.

Speaker C:

Side note, I really can't wait for you guys to find a movie called Deadpan, which is like a possessed bedpan that does some hijinks of many varieties.

Speaker B:

That would have been the trilogy.

Speaker D:

It's true.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

So keep an eye out.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I will say that this year, and I don't want to speak out of torment, but this year is the year that we've had the most filmmakers attend the festival over the course of the weekend.

Speaker A:

So if you get a spare couple minutes, you can corner one of these.

Speaker B:

Pitch the idea, pitch them Deadpan and film it here, film it in the Rochester area.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Talk to the film commission and you can make this happen.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

We have to get it past.

Speaker C:

Past the censors, past the original film commission.

Speaker C:

It has to be family friendly.

Speaker A:

Of course.

Speaker A:

Of course.

Speaker E:

When you think anomaly, you think family friendly.

Speaker B:

We have to put slightly in front of safer, everybody.

Speaker A:

Oh, Deadpan.

Speaker A:

At quarter to one on Sunday, we've got beyond the Drumlins, appreciated by Simon.

Speaker E:

Oh, Simon.

Speaker A:

Simon.

Speaker A:

Which is an ode to the Sims.

Speaker A:

The Sims.

Speaker A:

And also Matt Turk.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker E:

The fact that every comment was like, matt, I'm worried about you or Matt.

Speaker E:

Did you see this?

Speaker A:

Matt, our other anomal dad that isn't here tonight has regaled us in the past of stories of him torturing all sorts of virtual creatures in different games.

Speaker E:

Roller coaster tires, specifically.

Speaker B:

They just came to ride a ride.

Speaker B:

Yeah, they just came to go on the ride.

Speaker B:

They didn't know they'd be launched to death.

Speaker A:

And Simon.

Speaker A:

Simon flips it so you can kind of see the life of.

Speaker A:

Of the characters that play in Matt's games.

Speaker B:

We made it real specific.

Speaker D:

Yep, Yep.

Speaker B:

Universal.

Speaker B:

No, it's a Matt story.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Well, there Are others.

Speaker A:

But yeah, so we all related to it.

Speaker A:

I. I laughed out loud watching it.

Speaker A:

I think it's a lot of fun.

Speaker A:

And then beyond the Drumlins.

Speaker D:

It's.

Speaker A:

It's a local story.

Speaker A:

What do we want to say about beyond the Drumlins?

Speaker D:

It's.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

It's filmed locally by a crew of Rochesterians in the woods.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

About a group that heads off in.

Speaker E:

To do a study.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

It's like an archaeological study to find things.

Speaker B:

But yes.

Speaker B:

And things maybe instead they lose themselves.

Speaker D:

Exactly.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

So very thematic for this year of anomaly.

Speaker D:

And.

Speaker D:

Yeah, it is unique.

Speaker D:

And just we always.

Speaker D:

I feel like we've spent like every year trying to find like a local feature that we want to present to people.

Speaker D:

And I feel like we finally found one.

Speaker B:

And it's the theme.

Speaker D:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker A:

It's really interesting and it's.

Speaker A:

It's.

Speaker A:

It's a good movie and we're excited.

Speaker B:

To show that folklore thinkiness to it.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

With a little bit of sci fi to it.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah, Just that.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

What is this thing?

Speaker B:

What's happening?

Speaker B:

Why are you making these decisions?

Speaker B:

Everybody, A lot of that.

Speaker B:

Why are you making.

Speaker B:

Why are you making these decisions?

Speaker E:

Just leave.

Speaker B:

You can do it.

Speaker A:

From there we go to 4:15pm on Sunday.

Speaker A:

And that is I am Frankelda.

Speaker A:

And it's preceded by Melvin the Devourer.

Speaker B:

That little guy film is delicious.

Speaker A:

Our sweet little friend Melvin.

Speaker B:

And the setting might be familiar.

Speaker B:

In fact, if you're sitting there, you might go, oh, no.

Speaker B:

And you'll turn around and go, ah, I'm Elvin.

Speaker B:

It's very interactive.

Speaker B:

Only if you watch it with us in the little.

Speaker B:

You're gonna have an experience that no one El can have watching this short.

Speaker B:

Which is true.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And then I am Frank Elda.

Speaker A:

It's a stop motion animated film from Mexico.

Speaker A:

Is that right?

Speaker D:

Yes.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

It's the first theatrical stop motion film from Mexico.

Speaker E:

Absolute joy.

Speaker E:

Guillermo del Toro, I guess, has been.

Speaker D:

He's a big fan.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

And yeah, it's.

Speaker D:

You can.

Speaker D:

When you watch it, you'll immediately see why Guillermo del Toro was very taken with it.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

It is just.

Speaker D:

Again, I feel like we've talked about movies that build a world, and this one absolutely does that.

Speaker D:

It is just astounding what this team of animators is able to put on screen.

Speaker D:

It's just gorgeous.

Speaker D:

And I'm so excited to actually see it on the big screen in a theater since I've only been able to watch it as a link on my laptop.

Speaker D:

So, yeah, I'm very Much looking forward to this.

Speaker D:

Seeing the way it should be seen.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

This is meant to be seen in a theater.

Speaker E:

Just big musical numbers, big designs, awesome character designs.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Some fun songs.

Speaker B:

So, yeah, we can do cute.

Speaker D:

Absolutely.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

I mean, it's still spooky.

Speaker D:

Spooky cute.

Speaker D:

I feel like that is our brand.

Speaker B:

It would be scarier if it was just.

Speaker B:

Is this just cute?

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker E:

I can't trust this.

Speaker A:

Oh, bad news, everybody.

Speaker E:

The train is reaching the station.

Speaker A:

The train is reaching the station.

Speaker A:

At 7pm it ends.

Speaker A:

That's the title of the movie.

Speaker B:

I was like, how long do you want that to stay?

Speaker E:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker E:

Everybody on mute.

Speaker A:

I was timing it.

Speaker A:

I was trying to just come this side of David lynch paws.

Speaker B:

Oh.

Speaker B:

Just left.

Speaker A:

Mission Mission every day.

Speaker A:

So, yeah, it ends.

Speaker A:

Preceded by hope, as always does.

Speaker B:

We're hilarious.

Speaker B:

Adam, you're brilliant.

Speaker B:

I said we.

Speaker B:

I'm like, adam, well done again.

Speaker A:

We have to give Adam his flowers on this.

Speaker E:

This is maybe not the type of hope that you consider you're counting on or you want.

Speaker A:

And what do we want to say about it ends?

Speaker A:

It's hard to talk about.

Speaker D:

It is.

Speaker D:

And I feel like the team behind the film knows that.

Speaker D:

So they've been very coy about releasing information about the film or imagery.

Speaker D:

But it is, yeah, a first time filmmaker and it is one of those movies that you're like, this has such a clear vision to it that I've never seen before.

Speaker D:

And I'm excited for people to experience because, yeah, this is a movie that starts as one thing and shifts gradually to become something else entirely.

Speaker D:

And it just.

Speaker D:

The Journey is just the best.

Speaker D:

I'm so taken with this movie.

Speaker B:

It struck me as very Stephen King.

Speaker B:

You know, when you talk about relatable people in a.

Speaker B:

A wild situation, one that you can't help but go, what would I do?

Speaker B:

The classic.

Speaker B:

Like, this is a classic.

Speaker B:

Like, what would I do?

Speaker B:

We're have conversations after everybody about, what.

Speaker E:

Would you have done while we're eating our pizza.

Speaker A:

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker A:

I watched it the other night after.

Speaker A:

After Adam and Matt were both like, you need to watch this movie.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker B:

We all saw it together and stared at each other.

Speaker B:

By the end, you had no one to stare.

Speaker A:

That was it.

Speaker A:

I'm sorry, Kara.

Speaker A:

For like the 12 minutes that she watched it, she had just gotten done with putting the kid to.

Speaker A:

So I was just sitting there on my own and watching this thing just kind of unfold and morph in front of me.

Speaker A:

And by the end I was like, huh.

Speaker A:

Oh, wow.

Speaker B:

A Process.

Speaker E:

I need to talk to somebody about this now.

Speaker A:

And I just looked at her and I went.

Speaker A:

I cannot wait to hear the conversations over pizza.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

I'm excited to talk to people about this one because I feel like this movie led to the longest group discussion we've had after we just watched the screener.

Speaker B:

Absolutely.

Speaker B:

Also, do you like.

Speaker B:

Do you like a ginger root?

Speaker B:

The musician?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

You'll like this.

Speaker B:

It's gonna.

Speaker B:

It's gonna change, I think, the meaning of the music.

Speaker B:

I feel like I'm not as relaxed anymore when I'm listening to it, but that's okay.

Speaker B:

That's the power of art.

Speaker A:

I did not know the artist's name.

Speaker A:

And now I'm gonna go home and look all of it up because I really enjoyed it.

Speaker B:

Oh, he's great.

Speaker E:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I have never felt more old than I do right now.

Speaker A:

Thank you.

Speaker B:

I think, kp, you looked up because I was like, this sounds familiar.

Speaker B:

It was driving me nuts because it sounded familiar and I couldn't grasp it.

Speaker B:

And they're like, yes.

Speaker E:

Which is on the playlist.

Speaker B:

Awesome.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker E:

Awesome.

Speaker E:

Yes.

Speaker E:

And I was like, oh, yeah, of course.

Speaker E:

That's exactly who it is.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So that.

Speaker A:

That is this year's festival in a really breakneck version of it.

Speaker A:

Just kind of running you through.

Speaker A:

I would say the greatest hits, but all the hits, because they're all great.

The Anomaly Film Festival.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker D:

I'm excited to watch movies with people and talk about them.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And also, like, it's.

Speaker B:

It's right, like, so we're gonna do intros and there's gonna be Q&As, and we're gonna decorate.

Speaker B:

Hey, hey.

Speaker B:

Watching movies is great.

Speaker B:

Alone.

Speaker B:

It's great.

Speaker B:

It's great.

Speaker B:

Sometimes you want to curl up, but sometimes you want to be able to stare someone in the eyes after you see something and look into their soul and go, what?

Speaker B:

Like that is a precious human experience.

Speaker B:

And come out there and go, there's other humans watching this stuff, and we're all humans together.

Speaker B:

And let's feel stuff.

Speaker B:

And maybe get a little upset at Anomaly, but then forgive Anomaly, because then we show you something later that makes you happy.

Speaker E:

And we give you pizza.

Speaker E:

We do pizza and donuts and conversation and community.

Speaker E:

And I'm just so excited to see.

Speaker A:

Everyone, Honestly, that's, that's my, that's the thing I'm most excited to see is all of our friends come back and all of our new friends meeting all the people that were like, oh man, we're gonna see these people for years now.

Speaker A:

This is great.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

We didn't scare you off?

Speaker B:

Yeah, sorry about that.

Speaker A:
