New Zealand has a burgeoning space industry and in this episode with Dr Aglietti, Director of the Space Institute, Te Pūnaha Ātea, at the University of Auckland, we find out how New Zealand actually has a lot of the goods to be a great collaborative partner in space ventures. About Professor G Aglietti

Professor G Aglietti is an internationally leading expert in space engineering with over 30 years’ experience in the space engineering, ranging from industrial work (mechanical design, analysis, and testing, of a range of structures from modules for the ISS, to payloads for the space shuttle, to subsystems & satellites with the companies SSTL & AIRBUS) to research and teaching in aerospace subjects. His career started in Industry working at the Columbus module of the international space station. He then worked at the European Space Agency and subsequently moved to the UK where his work spanned from academic research & teaching to consultancy for industry, covering both theoretical work and experimental activities.

Awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in Space Engineering, became Director of the Surrey Space Centre. Principal investigator of pioneering missions for technology demonstrations like active removal of space debris, his work has been presented at leading international conferences, giving keynote lectures and featured on various media outlets and is described in over 250 publications.

In 2019, he moved to NZ to lead the Space Institute at the University of Auckland, with the mandate to establish research and educational activities to support the development of the local space sector.
