If you haven't had the chance yet, listen to episode 133 where I explain explain why autonomy matters to our engagement at work and how it is impacted by the level of trust we have gained from colleagues around us.
And my three actions for you to increase your level of autonomy and freedom at work are the action 1 choose a project or initiative at work that is highly relevant to the business and one that you could apply your strengths to deliver specific outcomes. You can reflect on this by thinking what are my company priorities and problems where my skills would be useful.
The idea here is to lead on a project or initiative that can showcase your skills and so that you can gain the trust of stakeholders that matter to you and therefore to gain more autonomy in the future. Idea for action number two is to increase your transparency, create a way to communicate what are you working on and what is your progress.
The more transparent you are in your work, the easier it is for people to trust you and this could look like a weekly update at the team meeting or a document where colleagues can check the status of the project or task that you are working on. Again, with more trust we gaining more autonomy at work.
And hack number three is about finding a way to share your knowledge, whether through delivering curiosity sessions, mentoring others or creating how to guides.
Sharing your knowledge at work showcases your abilities and again builds others trust in your knowledge and judgment, increasing our level of autonomy. Thank you for listening to the Happiness Reset at work.
I would love you to share this episode with others, especially maybe someone who needs to influence certain stakeholders to step up in the role.
