Liz Gillie (:

Hello, hello. Welcome back to Besties Unfiltered. I'm Liz and today we're doing a little beauty drawer check-in. We're talking about what I actually use in my everyday beauty routine and just the real stuff I reach for when I'm low on energy or when I'm doing a full face in the car mirror. So whether you're a chronic illness girlie, a minimalist, or you just want to simplify your beauty game, I'm sharing my current go-to products that make me feel a little more human without taking a ton out of me.

or taking a ton of time. Links to everything I mentioned will be in the show notes if you want to check anything out. So let's get to it.

Liz Gillie (:

Welcome to Besties Unfiltered, the podcast where real women share real stories. I'm Liz, and each week we dive into the authentic conversations that help women connect, build community, and feel empowered. Whether it's overcoming challenges, celebrating wins, or simply sharing the ups and downs of life, we're here to support one another, no filter needed. Grab a seat, grab your bestie, and let's get to it.

Liz Gillie (:

Okay, I do just want to start out by addressing the elephant in the room. If you followed me for a while, you know that I actually partnered with a beauty makeup company and I was with that company actively selling for about seven years. And then they chose to go a more affiliate route for their compensation.

and I lost a good portion of my income from that. I am still partnered with them, and I still am available to my former customers to support them and help them with the makeup that they're still using. That said, I have a lot of big feelings about the way the company shifted things and I personally

just really struggle to wear it now because of the emotional impact it has had on me. So I do love their products and I think that they're truly so unique, so great, but

The only products of theirs that I really wear anymore are some lip oils, some eyeshadows and the occasional blush. Usually I just use that on my lips though. So I just want to acknowledge that because that is a part of my journey and it's part of who I am and I want to always be upfront and honest about that. So now we can get into the fun part, talking about what I'm using now. I want to talk makeup first. For me, makeup has to pass three tests.

It should be easy to apply, comfortable to wear, and it doesn't make my skin freak out. So here is what I am using right now. I love L'Oreal Paris. They have a Glow Lotion and it's like a skin tint highlighter and dewy base all in one. So I use it at the end of my morning skincare routine and under my makeup. So that's kind of like my lotion and primer all in one.

And then...

I switch back and forth a little bit on the foundations. If I'm going to just be outside hanging out, not really doing anything, I've really been liking the Revision tinted sunscreen. It gives pretty good coverage. It's lighter coverage, has SPF, skincare all at once. It's great. The other product that I have liked is the Olive Tree People. It's one of their...

Little like branches of their company called all of rose, which is a new makeup company and it is a tinted serum. It is very lightweight. It gives a nice like do we finish and even skin tone. It doesn't irritate my skin. I would say it is very light coverage still. So I've been liking that. ⁓ and then I just, just like in the last week.

bought a K-Beauty foundation stick with 50 SPF. It goes on white and then I use, I do love the Saint brushes. So I use that to blend it all out. So far I'm loving it. I am still kind of test driving it though.

Okay, so then let's talk some of the extras and I apologize if you can hear crying in the background. One of my kids got into some trouble with his father and is not happy about it so we're just going to keep carrying on so after my foundation, I am loving the Milani baked blush. It is so good. I have Dolce pink and

Luminoso I think is what it's called. It's kind of a peachy color and I use it on my cheeks and I've been using it as an eyeshadow. That was a little trick I learned from my st. Days one compact two jobs. I then love to use L'Oreal telescopic mascara. It's very lightweight. Doesn't clump up too bad. So I really like that. I use the brown color and

I'm probably going to butcher the name, but L'Oreal Paris has an illuminator highlighter stick and it's the glass kind. It's they have a pearl and a glass and I love the glass. I just swipe it on the top of my cheekbones, the tip of my nose, my cupids bow. Beautiful. And all of that takes me, I would say about five minutes. My brows.

are easy because I get them waxed and tinted regularly so they're always done and I don't have to worry too much about filling in. I also just slap on some lip gloss. I'm loving Maybelline Lifter Lip Gloss. Just throw it on for a little color and shine. Usually I'm doing it in the car as we're going somewhere. Zero effort. Maximum pretty. Okay. So now let's talk skincare. This is the thing that I've really been enjoying lately.

I think part of the reason I love skincare so much is first of all, good makeup starts with good skincare. It is essential to our health. Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies. And it just feels nice when you are going through chronic illness to not have makeup on and still have your skin looking somewhat decent. Now that said, I will say that when I start to flare up, my skin does show it pretty quickly. I get dehydrated really easily.

and my skin may become a little more reactive, gets red and irritated a little bit faster. So I use a combo of two brands. One is Olive Tree People. That is a company that I signed up with when my old company went affiliate and I've been with them for a little over a year. And then the other is Eminence and they are both European.

Skincare companies, what's great about that is Europe regulates their beauty industry in a way that the United States doesn't. So their products are high quality. What I like about both is that they are, clean, they're gentle and they all smell really good. So just a little something. So I'm gonna break it down. I am a huge fan of the Double Cleanse, especially if you've been wearing makeup.

using an oil cleanser to get, you know, everything off and then finishing with another cleanser that really gets into your pores. I double cleanse with Eminence. So it is going to vary a little from person to person. They have a great skincare quiz or you could even use chat GBT to help you come up with a skincare routine from Eminence. I'm going to link directly to their website. I would highly advise against ordering skincare,

don't try to save a buck on eminence by buying on Amazon. Skincare makes me really nervous on Amazon. Okay so I use the Stone Crop Cleansing Oil first and that is a really great, if you're gonna double cleanse that's a really great one.

And then I personally use the Minoi exfoliating. It's very gentle exfoliation. Like I said, I have sensitive skin, but I can use it every day, no issues. So that's what I use first. I follow that with the Eminence Facial Recovery Oil, which feels amazing on irritated skin. And it's not just irritated. Like if you're dry, it's great. It's going to give you lots of hydration. If you are oily,

It's great because it's going to hydrate really, really well so that your skin stops over producing that oil. I am just obsessed with the facial recovery oil. Then let's get into some of the serums I use. The rest of these serums are from Olive Tree People and they are linked in my bio and it is through me. They do have an AI quiz that is phenomenal at helping you pick the correct products.

So in the morning, I personally use the Olive Tree People Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. And then at night, I use the Olive Tree People Green Retinol and Hyaluronic. And what I love about the Green Retinol especially is it's plant-based and it's really, really gentle. Retinol can be really hard on your skin and you have to be super careful with it. And if you overuse it, you could just absolutely wreck your skin and ask me how I know.

It's because I did it. This is one where I don't know if it's just my skin is sensitive or if it was mast cell stuff, but I followed all the rules with retinol, started very low dose, you're like low concentration, whatever. You know, I wasn't using it every day. It was like twice a week and my skin just got bright red. I'll have to see if I can find a picture and share it. Bright red, super irritated, lasted forever. I have had zero issues.

with the Olive Tree People Green Retinol, I will sing its praises until the day I'm dead. And then we'll get into the moisturizing. In the morning, estheticians don't come for me because I know you're probably going to be like, that is not good enough. In the morning, I just use the L'Oreal Glow Lotion. And then at night, I use an Olive Tree People Moisturizer. And again, I'll link the specifics to what I use, but use the skincare quizzes to find what's going to work best for you.

Skincare is so unique to each person. Extras. Olive Tree People has a honey enzyme mask, which is gentle exfoliation. I love it. It's beautiful. It's great. If you have sensitive skin, I wouldn't leave it on for very long. I personally get pretty red with it. And then the other mask I really love to use is Eminence Stone Crop Mask. It's very calming and hydrating when your skin is like irritated. And I have found

I don't get cystic acne very often, but I'll get like one random one every now and again. And you know, I can't leave it alone. And again, estheticians do not, do not comfort me. I know I'm doing wrong, but you know when you pop it and it gets irritated and it looks awful. I have dotted on some of the eminent stone crop mask and it really helped with like the inflammation. So that's it. It's not like a 15 step routine and could it be better? Probably.

But for someone that is low energy, doing the best I can, kind of in survival mode, this is great. And I would say, yes, I'm like on the chronic illness side, but I would say like busy moms, this is doable. And I love it. It's working really well for me. So that's my really basic beauty lineup. It's simple, effective, and flexible for flare days, fatigue, and maybe even some like

If you've been feeling overwhelmed by beauty routines or frustrated by your lack of time or ability to work on your skin, I just want to say you're not alone. Beauty doesn't have to be all or nothing. Sometimes it really is just about using one or two products that make you feel a little more like you. As always, I want to hear your story. If you have a beauty routine that works for you, ⁓ a chronic illness journey you want to share or something you wish you

women knew more about or we're just talking about more. I want to talk to you. There's a link in the show notes where you can submit your story or your name to be interviewed on Besties Unfiltered. I'm looking for about eight women to interview to share throughout the rest of the year and I'd love to include your voice. Thanks for hanging out with me today. Take care of your body, your skin and your spirit. You're doing great.
