Speaker:

She's a doctor. Hi, I'm Dr. Dovec and she's a

Speaker:

dietitian. Hey, I'm Hannah Schuyler, and together we are

Speaker:

the weight loss collab. And today

Speaker:

we have the start of a very special series.

Speaker:

This is with a patient. We really want to follow the

Speaker:

entire journey. And so we are starting. We are before

Speaker:

surgery, just days, really, at this point, before surgery

Speaker:

with a patient of ours who has a fabulous personality,

Speaker:

a really incredible story. She gets personal. So without

Speaker:

further ado, welcome Tanisha K. To our

Speaker:

podcast. Welcome. Hello, ladies. It's a

Speaker:

pleasure to be here. We're so excited to have you here.

Speaker:

I'm so excited. I am

Speaker:

ecstatic to be a part of this whole journey. And you guys actually just

Speaker:

bringing. Starting the journey for me because I really needed to push off

Speaker:

that edge. And this is amazing. I'm

Speaker:

totally grateful, completely grateful for the opportunity and

Speaker:

the new journey that I'm on. I am speechless. I was speechless

Speaker:

when you reached out to me, Dr. Doug. I was, I'm like, oh, my

Speaker:

God, I'm about to cry. I come back immediately. You're amazing.

Speaker:

Oh, my gosh. Well, I love the practicing of

Speaker:

gratitude and, well, we were very just

Speaker:

attracted to you and to your story. So

Speaker:

let's, let's back it up here. Tell me a

Speaker:

little bit about yourself even from when you were a little girl. Just about

Speaker:

really just getting in there. Let's just talk about, like your weight and your struggles

Speaker:

and really why this opportunity is so exciting to you.

Speaker:

Yes, I have been,

Speaker:

I like to call it pleasantly plump since I can

Speaker:

remember. I've always been the, you know, the bigger girl in

Speaker:

class, the bigger cousin, the bigger sister.

Speaker:

I have always been plus size and

Speaker:

just it was a lot that came with it.

Speaker:

You know, in school there are bullies. There are people who just

Speaker:

don't, you know, care for.

Speaker:

Care about others feelings. And so I, I

Speaker:

struggled with my weight for a while, like to be able to adjust

Speaker:

because of the things that people would say in school. And you

Speaker:

know, when I go in the store, you can only. I can only wear certain

Speaker:

things because the stuff that I thought was so cute, like nowadays is justice

Speaker:

for the girls. If back in my day I would never be able to wear,

Speaker:

you know, cute things like that. And I've always been attracted to the

Speaker:

really cute stuff. But I'm over here in the

Speaker:

women's section because. And I'm like eight. Like, why do I have to wear.

Speaker:

So it's always been a really hard time for me

Speaker:

and hard for me to adjust because it's like me and my

Speaker:

mom wear the same size, and I'm in middle school, you know, and

Speaker:

she was a grown lady, so it's always been something that was hard. I would

Speaker:

just, like, cry, like, in my room or just

Speaker:

behind closed doors all the time. Sometimes I cried in school,

Speaker:

but my mom always told me to not let people see me cry. So,

Speaker:

yeah, it was always really something hard to deal with. I was in cheerleading

Speaker:

for my mom kept me really active. I was in

Speaker:

cheerleading, I was in dance. She even put me in softball,

Speaker:

volleyball. But I was forced there just so that I could

Speaker:

be active, so that some of the weight could. I don't get too

Speaker:

heavy or if I'm maintaining it, I'm not quite sure. But

Speaker:

cheerleading and dance, that was something I'm okay with because I like

Speaker:

those things. But softball and volleyball, I was so upset to be there,

Speaker:

and I'm just like, this is not for me. But, yeah, my

Speaker:

mom always tried to keep me active. I was in Weight Watchers in eighth grade.

Speaker:

I'm the only child in there. I mean, my

Speaker:

mom was there with me, but it was a bunch. I didn't see any other

Speaker:

kids, and I'm just like, am I supposed to be here? Like, it's. I think

Speaker:

it was. I. I think it was eighth grade or maybe seventh. I just know

Speaker:

I was in middle school. And, yeah, it was a lot to deal

Speaker:

with. It was a lot to take on as a child, and I didn't have

Speaker:

anybody to just remind me that I was beautiful. My

Speaker:

mom always, because I was. She was always trying to keep me active, and it

Speaker:

was a constant reminder that I was fat. So I didn't have

Speaker:

anybody to tell me, you know, it's okay to be

Speaker:

plus size and stuff like that. So as I became

Speaker:

an adult, I grew to love

Speaker:

me. My aunt, which is my mom's sister, is who kind

Speaker:

of took me under her wing. You know, she is the person behind

Speaker:

the glam today. Like, I love to shop and keep

Speaker:

my. I present myself in a certain way because of my aunt, because she shopped

Speaker:

a lot. And it started in middle school because I used to always wonder,

Speaker:

like, everybody else in school has all these nice things I have to go to

Speaker:

with regular, you know, Walmart clothes or something, Just whatever I could

Speaker:

fit, you know. So, yeah. And as I

Speaker:

became an adult, I embraced it. And I love me. I love that I'm plus

Speaker:

size, but I'm a mom now, so I

Speaker:

mainly want to get some of the weight off so that I Can be around

Speaker:

as long as possible for my children because they mean the most to

Speaker:

me. And I've tried everything from,

Speaker:

um, dieting, exercising, um, I've

Speaker:

tried the injections of GLP1s. Nothing's worked, actually. My

Speaker:

insurance doesn't approve me for anything because you actually have to have some type

Speaker:

of condition or, you know, I don't have

Speaker:

diabetes and all of those things, so I've. I couldn't get anything approved. So I

Speaker:

was paying 400 or so a month for the

Speaker:

injections, but they kept. I was sick from it. My body was taking a lot

Speaker:

to adjust, so it was just like, so much. And it

Speaker:

was very discouraging. And I don't like my kids to see me quit because

Speaker:

they knew I was trying to lose weight. So

Speaker:

this journey that I'm on now means so much to me. I'm about to cry

Speaker:

because they'll actually be able to see, you know, a difference.

Speaker:

But, yeah, it's been a long time coming and I'm really grateful to

Speaker:

be here because it's been a lot that I've had to deal

Speaker:

with personally. So. Oh, my gosh, so

Speaker:

many things here. Thank you for being vulnerable and just,

Speaker:

ah, we all can feel you. Just so many things you said really resonate, like

Speaker:

with me as a mom, as a woman, as a little

Speaker:

girl, thinking about, like, you just being

Speaker:

little, like, you have these. You. You clearly had. These were very

Speaker:

impressionable on you that you. Can you say, like, eighth

Speaker:

grade, like, you remember where you were. You can. I can know your visual realizing

Speaker:

these bullies. I know you're feeling yourself back in this time when

Speaker:

you're at Weight Watchers and like, the things people would say, like,

Speaker:

what do you remember? Like, sitting there, like, you're like, wait a second, I'm looking

Speaker:

around this room. One of these things ain't like the other. Like, I'm the only

Speaker:

kid in here. And like, these women or men or whoever is in there,

Speaker:

like, what do you remember about being in that moment?

Speaker:

The. Well, first, you know, you walk in and they weigh in and I'm

Speaker:

feel like, embarrassed because my weight is. I'm

Speaker:

getting the same numbers as these women in here. So that was

Speaker:

the first thing. And I was always embarrassed to say I weigh this much.

Speaker:

And now it's like, broadcasted and I'm the

Speaker:

only child and I'm just like, I hope they're not looking at me like,

Speaker:

wow, she's like 12 and 13 and

Speaker:

she weighs the same as me. So that was the first thing I

Speaker:

didn't like for people to know how much I weighed. I didn't like to be

Speaker:

weighed in every time for every meeting.

Speaker:

And I don't even remember anything that they were talking

Speaker:

about in there because most. I was just looking at my surroundings

Speaker:

like I'm in here with all of these people. Like, I don't.

Speaker:

It just made me feel like I knew I didn't

Speaker:

belong. I knew I shouldn't have been there. It made me not

Speaker:

want to eat. Like I was like, should I just throw up all of my

Speaker:

food after I eat it? Because why am I here?

Speaker:

There's no other kids here. So it felt

Speaker:

horrible. I just remember I didn't want to hear nothing they wanted to say. I

Speaker:

didn't want to be there. And I just, I did. It took a lot

Speaker:

to learn to love myself because why

Speaker:

am I a kid? And Weight Watchers, you know, and back then it

Speaker:

was the bullies would say, you need to go to Jenny Craig.

Speaker:

And then Weight Watchers was a whole new thing. So it was just like

Speaker:

I need both, like, yeah, like, well, it's.

Speaker:

We're just about the same age, Nisha. And

Speaker:

so it's like, it definitely is kind of that like product of the 90s and

Speaker:

early 2000s. And we were so inundated with so many messages from that

Speaker:

time of, you know, it was very much thin as in. And you know, it's

Speaker:

all of that and was. There was a lot of, of discourse about like

Speaker:

Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers and Slim Fast and

Speaker:

all of these different like trends. And it really isn't like

Speaker:

really necessarily appropriate for a 12 year old to be in that because like,

Speaker:

you don't have a lot of control also over that part of your life.

Speaker:

You know, you don't. You're not the one cooking your meals and planning

Speaker:

your, you know, going to the gr. You're going to the grocery store with your

Speaker:

parents or whatever, but like you're not choosing the foods. And like you said you

Speaker:

were active and you were doing all these things. And I think that also just,

Speaker:

you know, when we talk about obesity as a disease and you can kind of

Speaker:

really trace it back to these young ages and it's like it's not,

Speaker:

it wasn't really a choice for you like that, that was, that

Speaker:

was the case with your body. Right. It was all I knew. I'm just like,

Speaker:

I'm been small, so I don't even know like when I think about now

Speaker:

getting the surgery. I've never been small, so I don't. I can't even

Speaker:

imagine it. You know, some people have, like, that goal. They have that picture. Like,

Speaker:

I want to get back to this size. I don't have that. I've always

Speaker:

been big, so I don't know what it feels like to have

Speaker:

no stomach. I don't know any of that. So it's kind of scary

Speaker:

at the same time because sometimes, like, some of the people that I know,

Speaker:

like, when you lose weight, they say you may look sick and so forth.

Speaker:

With everybody knowing me always being plus size, that also makes me

Speaker:

nervous. But I have to remember to just don't care about what others

Speaker:

think, because that's what got me this far. I

Speaker:

cared about what others thought about me a long time ago. I

Speaker:

probably wouldn't even be here today because of the things that I've heard people

Speaker:

say about me. So, yeah, it's a

Speaker:

lot. Well, and it does, like you're saying, it kind of becomes part of your

Speaker:

identity of like, you know, and even in social media and stuff like that,

Speaker:

it is. It's plus size. And like you said, you've really embraced that in a

Speaker:

positive way and said that I'm owning it and I'm taking control of it. But

Speaker:

at the same time, you recognize that maybe this is really not the best

Speaker:

path for me to be on in the long term. And since I

Speaker:

never thought of, you know, being a mom, it's a lot that ties into it.

Speaker:

And my children are now they're 8, 9, and

Speaker:

13, and it's the most active I'd have to. I have to be now. I

Speaker:

mean, you know, when they're little, yes, I did have to run after them and

Speaker:

stuff, but it's so much more now because they're more aware of

Speaker:

things they want to do more. Everybody wants to be

Speaker:

in sports. I have to have the energy to take

Speaker:

on everything, you know, that comes with being a mom. Before,

Speaker:

I was like, yeah, I'm okay with being, you know, big. I'm okay. I'm beautiful.

Speaker:

Big and beautiful, whatever. But now I'm just like, I can get

Speaker:

diabetes tomorrow, you know, and then I'm 36 now, so

Speaker:

anything can happen. You know, the older you get, more

Speaker:

things, you know, your health is more detrimental at that point. So

Speaker:

anything can affect me, my existence

Speaker:

with my kids. I just. That's me. So,

Speaker:

yeah, I mean, you know, you talk a lot about, like, the

Speaker:

starting at a young age and all these different things you've done and tried in

Speaker:

sports. You had no interest in it. I'm like, oh, gosh, I

Speaker:

have to Be there against. Not maybe

Speaker:

against your will, but, like, against, like, your passion for what you might want to

Speaker:

be doing. Oh, that's just such a hard visual to think

Speaker:

about. But you have all these things, and I love

Speaker:

that. The thing I love about you, which I think a lot of people struggle

Speaker:

with this, is that you are recognizing, like, you

Speaker:

know what? People have said horrible things to me, Hateful things, things

Speaker:

that are just not fair. Fair. You know, they just don't get it. They're ignorant.

Speaker:

They're. And they're leaving lasting scars on you. But, like, at

Speaker:

some point, you realize two things. One thing is that people

Speaker:

like their opinions. That's great. I can control my reaction or I

Speaker:

can just remove myself from the whole situation. So you're, like, just staying

Speaker:

focused on you and your why and your kids and just. I

Speaker:

think that's so, so huge. Some people, like, will stay pl. In one place

Speaker:

in their whole life because they just don't let themselves, like, imagine

Speaker:

a different way. And I think the other thing is that. Have a

Speaker:

knowledge that, like, yeah, I've done all the things. Like,

Speaker:

I've tried the miracle meds, and, yeah, they didn't really work

Speaker:

for me. I didn't like the way I felt. I had side effects. I've done

Speaker:

the diets, I've done the plans. I've attended these support groups with these

Speaker:

public kind of shaming sessions, of standing on a scale, which I don't

Speaker:

know why that would be productive in any environment of any type of support

Speaker:

group, but you've done all the things, and you're allowing yourself permission to know

Speaker:

that surgery is. Is the most effective step and that you

Speaker:

are excited about this. When some people think it's the easy

Speaker:

way out. And I saw one of your reels recently where you're like,

Speaker:

no. And, you know, like, you're, like, running

Speaker:

full force towards surgery. So, like, how did you get to that

Speaker:

point to realize, like, yeah, I want this, and I don't care what anybody

Speaker:

has to say about it. Yeah. So

Speaker:

it definitely took a lot, but. Well, first, my

Speaker:

best friend. You just did her surgery last month, but we were talking about

Speaker:

it for a while. Like, it's. We've been

Speaker:

friends since ninth grade. And she's plus size as well.

Speaker:

And she's always. She's a year older than me, so she's always been, like,

Speaker:

a little. She was first to do a lot of things, like, first to drive

Speaker:

first. So she started the injections first. And then

Speaker:

I'm just like, you know what? I'm Going to try it. Like, she helps motivate

Speaker:

me because I'm always so scared to do things because I

Speaker:

feel, I don't know, I'm always overthinking things.

Speaker:

But when I started doing my own research after, you know, she got

Speaker:

her surgery and I was, I was already doing my own research, I was thinking

Speaker:

about this. So 2023 is when I got serious about trying

Speaker:

to lose weight. I was working out every day, well, five

Speaker:

days a week. And yeah, 5:00am I loved it.

Speaker:

I loved working out so much. I still do. It's just I got discouraged because

Speaker:

I was not losing any weight and I

Speaker:

started writing down the things that I have done to try to lose weight

Speaker:

and I'm like, I'm literally checking off every box. But

Speaker:

weight loss surgery, I even thought maybe

Speaker:

I should get lipo360 or something. But I'm like, I

Speaker:

can't get that. I mean, I can, but it's not going to

Speaker:

maintain it. I need something to keep me from

Speaker:

gaining all of the weight back so I can go out and get all, any

Speaker:

kind of, you know, cosmetic surgery. But I can be, I can gain all

Speaker:

the weight back or just, you know, the, everything that I put in will go

Speaker:

to waste if I don't change my mindset, change the way I eat.

Speaker:

So weight loss surgery, when I did, did the research to see, you know, how

Speaker:

effective it is, what benefits it have

Speaker:

once you take that step. I'm like, well, maybe this is something that's for me

Speaker:

because it's something that is long lasting. It's not something that, you

Speaker:

know, yeah, I can get the

Speaker:

cosmetic surgery and do working out and so forth, but if I

Speaker:

don't diet, you know, I'm, I need something that will stick.

Speaker:

So she, my best friend, helped motivate me. I

Speaker:

was, it was, I was already doing my own research on, you know, what will

Speaker:

work for me. And then she got, and I'm like, I'm like, you know what,

Speaker:

everything is fine. She's doing fine. She looks amazing already. And

Speaker:

it's only been a month or two months now. We're in February. But I, I'm

Speaker:

just like, you know what, I'm just going to do it. I'm going to do

Speaker:

it. I want something that's going to help me keep the weight off. And Your

Speaker:

videos on TikTok and Instagram are so informative

Speaker:

and it validated everything that I've already

Speaker:

looked into as far as the gastric bypass. And I'm just like,

Speaker:

you know what, thank God that I'VE come into, you

Speaker:

know, cross paths with Dr. Nova because body by bariatrics just seems

Speaker:

like the way to be. And I've spoke to multiple people

Speaker:

that you've done surgery for and nobody,

Speaker:

everybody has just great, your reviews are

Speaker:

amazing. Nobody has anything, you know, negative

Speaker:

to say. The surgery is just the main thing

Speaker:

I've heard is it's the best decision they've ever made. And I'm just like, you

Speaker:

know what? This is just, it's for me. I feel like

Speaker:

it's for me. And I, I was like, you know what? I'm gonna do it.

Speaker:

I don't care about what other people are thinking. Like when I first told my

Speaker:

mom, she was just like, ah. You know, and I'm just like, no, mom, I'm

Speaker:

doing it. I'm closing my ears. I don't wanna hear anything. It's gonna happen.

Speaker:

Just don't even try to, you know, persuade me to not do it. It's happening.

Speaker:

So, yeah, well, and I think on that, on that note, when you know, you're

Speaker:

talking About Instagram and TikTok, I'm trying, but guess what? I ain't anything near

Speaker:

you. It's Nisha K has

Speaker:

probably over a half a million across multiple

Speaker:

platforms. And so you are an influencer. You're here in the

Speaker:

Orlando area, but obviously that reach and that digital footprint

Speaker:

reaches far and wide and you are out there and

Speaker:

you definitely exude confidence and you are beautiful and you're

Speaker:

fun and you just had a Galentine say party that I was like, where was

Speaker:

my invite? But that's a different story. And I'm like looking and watching and

Speaker:

you're just this big, bold, dynamic, wonderful person.

Speaker:

Now a lot of we're talking identity because a lot of your

Speaker:

life it's been this, hey, I, I'm,

Speaker:

I'm, I'm proud of my plus size body and you know, but I am

Speaker:

also, you're very honest with all of your followers and fans that,

Speaker:

hey, I'm trying to do more. So how do you feel about

Speaker:

like all those people who are listening right now to this podcast and they're like

Speaker:

cheering you on, but also like, wait, are you like going

Speaker:

to change who you are? Like, what is this? Is that going to like hurt

Speaker:

your potential, like your brand or what you're putting out there to the world?

Speaker:

I don't think so. I think that I always

Speaker:

practice self care or self care and self love. And I feel

Speaker:

a part of taking care of myself is making sure I'm

Speaker:

healthy. So I'm never going to, you know, I'm not promoting that I

Speaker:

want to be skinny. I just want to be a healthier me so that I

Speaker:

can be better. I can be the best me that I could be, you know,

Speaker:

so it's, I would hope my followers wouldn't look at it as

Speaker:

if I'm not wanting to be the plus size influencer

Speaker:

anymore. I hope that I can. Well, I know that I will

Speaker:

influence a lot of people to, you know, come on this journey

Speaker:

with me. I've already received messages after I've started

Speaker:

informing my followers that I am starting this new

Speaker:

journey. I've received multiple messages of different women

Speaker:

stating, you know what that's gonna, you're watching, you will help me make

Speaker:

the decision. And I'm already one foot in the door and I'm just like, you

Speaker:

know, that's what I'm here for. So I feel that it will be a

Speaker:

positive impact on my followers. I don't think that it would be, you

Speaker:

know, everything comes with, there will be the, you know, the

Speaker:

naysayers, but I don't, I don't pay them any mind. I just block and keep

Speaker:

it moving. As long as much as the negative comments I

Speaker:

receive, I triple that in the positivity. So

Speaker:

will be a good step forward for me in this journey. Yeah, I

Speaker:

saw you commented on your post and you were like, I've already blocked two people.

Speaker:

He could just, oh, I didn't see. That lock and move on. You're like,

Speaker:

I'm. Because, like, I mean, I

Speaker:

totally understand the body positivity and I think that that's important. And we do

Speaker:

recognize that there can be health at every kind of size, there's beauty at every

Speaker:

size, there's all of these things. But you're recognizing too that for you

Speaker:

that we're looking to the future, we're looking into the distance to see that like

Speaker:

this is not leading you down the path that you, that you want to be

Speaker:

on. So we're going to change, we're going to take a different road. And

Speaker:

I think that, that, you know, social media is not great for nuance. I think

Speaker:

we can see that in a lot of things. And so that's a hard message

Speaker:

for some people to receive that like you can still love your body

Speaker:

now as you do and you will still always love that and

Speaker:

this time period of your life, but you're also allowed to want to make changes

Speaker:

to that and you're allowed to want to look a different way, feel a different

Speaker:

way, whatever the reasoning might be. And

Speaker:

I love, too, that you're saying it's like people sometimes also just need to see

Speaker:

someone else that is okay with making that change to their

Speaker:

kind of their identity or part of their. This is obviously not your whole

Speaker:

identity. Right. Like, you have so many facets to you,

Speaker:

but you know that, that it's like, yeah,

Speaker:

you're allowed to make these changes and want to, to feel a

Speaker:

certain way about yourself or look a certain way or whatever it might be.

Speaker:

Yep. And I, when I started working out in

Speaker:

2023, the. I post on my story every time I'm in

Speaker:

the gym and so forth. So I've been influencing my followers to work

Speaker:

out and, you know, try. I've, I've. They've been on the journey with me and

Speaker:

they know that it's. I show them that it's not easy, you know,

Speaker:

for everyone. And if it's not easy for you, that's okay because it's not easy

Speaker:

for me as well. So, you know, if you need to take another route just

Speaker:

as I am, it's okay to do so. So.

Speaker:

Yeah. Oh, my gosh. Well, I mean, it's going to be an

Speaker:

exciting one to watch. And so let's talk a little bit about

Speaker:

your timeline. So you've been thinking about this for

Speaker:

years and really got serious about three years ago in

Speaker:

2023, and you've been hitting the gym and eaten

Speaker:

better and being really just such a positive

Speaker:

influence, even over your children and trying to do it all.

Speaker:

And so then we decided, all right, let's do an initial consult

Speaker:

and tell me a little bit about your surger coming

Speaker:

up, just why you picked the surgery you did. And really

Speaker:

just like, how are you feeling right now? We are. We

Speaker:

are two weeks, Two weeks from today. Two weeks from recording,

Speaker:

which. From this recording, when we're recording it, she is having her procedure

Speaker:

on February 19th. So, like, what is going

Speaker:

through your mind and your body right now? To be

Speaker:

honest, I feel like it's. So when we first,

Speaker:

when I, when we first had our consultation, me and you, Miss doctor,

Speaker:

we were. You were letting me know the dates that were available, and you was

Speaker:

like, we can do it this Friday, which was last Friday the 31st. But I

Speaker:

was like, oh, no, that's. That's too soon. But after we did

Speaker:

the photo shoot and I saw the patients that were already,

Speaker:

that have already, you know, they're already in their journey and they look amazing,

Speaker:

and I'm just like, you know what? I feel like February 19th is too far

Speaker:

away. I'm ready Schedule for tomorrow.

Speaker:

But so I am so ready. I've never been

Speaker:

so ready for anything else like this. That

Speaker:

coming there and speaking with the other patients and

Speaker:

their testimony and like, Jessica, like, everyone

Speaker:

looks amazing and they have so much

Speaker:

positive things to say about their life change. And it

Speaker:

influenced me to the 10th power. And I'm just like, you know

Speaker:

what? I cannot wait. I'm so excited. I can't wait. I'm ready for

Speaker:

it to start. I've already started looking,

Speaker:

like, looking into changing the things

Speaker:

we eat. Not only me, but my children, they're gonna be upset because the

Speaker:

whole house. Because

Speaker:

I was doing the new

Speaker:

try life. I think it's our new try house Learning, right?

Speaker:

And learning about, you know, sugars and how

Speaker:

bad it is. And I'm just like, you know what? I feel that

Speaker:

this is something that I need to practice as a. We need to practice as

Speaker:

a family. So I'm so ready where I'm going grocery shopping this weekend, and

Speaker:

I'm cleaning out the fridge. All the sweet drinks and all of that

Speaker:

stuff, it is going in the trash. They're just gonna be upset because I want

Speaker:

a healthier lifestyle for us. And I feel like this is not

Speaker:

only benefiting me, it's benefiting my children in a way that

Speaker:

I didn't see coming. Like, it just hit me full force after

Speaker:

the photo shoot, and I'm just like, you know what? It's like my mind,

Speaker:

I don't know, something just clicked in my head and I'm just like, you know

Speaker:

what? I'm so ready for this. Before, I was not ready. I did not walk

Speaker:

into that photo shoot ready, but now I am ready. I just then,

Speaker:

and especially after watching those videos, I'm just like, you know what? This is for

Speaker:

me. I've. I'm mad I didn't, you know, find out about

Speaker:

Bodyfibriatric sooner because.

Speaker:

This is. The place to be for the girls. The girls like me because.

Speaker:

We are. A bunch of girls. And I do love that, you know,

Speaker:

so what you're. You're talking about here. We did a photo shoot the other day.

Speaker:

We had Nisha, and then we had Kim, who's another pre op

Speaker:

patient. And then we had a lot of our post op patients that

Speaker:

came together. So it's. And we were shooting with our. We have

Speaker:

a vitamin line. It's called Body by Nutrition. And we were taking pictures and we

Speaker:

were having fun, and we were there. And I always tell people,

Speaker:

like, at initial consults, we do a group session, and I talk

Speaker:

a lot about, you know, like, why are you here? And, you know,

Speaker:

clearly your why has been kind of a long time coming. And then I say,

Speaker:

all right, well, we're going to get to know each other, and then you're going

Speaker:

to get to pick your surgery date. And some of you were ready, like, yesterday,

Speaker:

and some of you are still kind of window shopping and kicking the tire.

Speaker:

But it's a lot of times when that switch goes up, when it's.

Speaker:

When that happens, it's done. And so I've talked about that for

Speaker:

many years and. And we've done thousands of surgeries. I've done probably 10,000 causes, all

Speaker:

these things. But I will tell you that when I saw you at

Speaker:

the photo shoot, I saw your switch go.

Speaker:

And I've never seen it in real time ever in my career, but I saw

Speaker:

it because of the community and looking at the other

Speaker:

people. And I was watching you. I was watching it in

Speaker:

real time. This, like, the excitement and the genuine. Just like,

Speaker:

oh, wait, you had surgery. You were, oh, that's your before picture. And I was

Speaker:

the interaction. I was just sitting back like a proud mom. That's like watching her,

Speaker:

like, look at this. This is magic. It was my magic.

Speaker:

Yes. That's exactly how it was for me. And I'm just like, this is. Because

Speaker:

when I first came in, I did not. I thought they were all a part

Speaker:

of the team. You, the body baby, or our colleagues.

Speaker:

Yeah. Because we don't tell anybody anything about what

Speaker:

we're doing with them. We're just like, can you show up at this time in

Speaker:

this place, in this state, just be ready for whatever

Speaker:

we're going to make you do. Like, wow, that is amazing to

Speaker:

see the testimony, to see them in the flesh,

Speaker:

like, right there in person. Because, you know, I can see it all online. I

Speaker:

can go to their profile or go to your profile and see their transformation, but

Speaker:

to speak with them and to hear their journey from

Speaker:

them directly, it was just. It was amazing.

Speaker:

I'm so ready. I'm so. Well, it's funny because a lot of these people are

Speaker:

patients. We do become friends and almost like family

Speaker:

because, yeah, you get to kind of know each other online. It's like my little,

Speaker:

like, digital girlfriend here, and I'm, like, learning about you, and I'm

Speaker:

like, oh, how's your daughter? It's all that cute little reveal you did. Oh, how

Speaker:

was your vacation? Like, you start to go down rabbit holes with people,

Speaker:

but then they're so happy and they are just

Speaker:

like, ah, it's just this is like just the most rewarding specialty, I

Speaker:

think, that exists, that they'll come and then they'll do photo

Speaker:

shoots after. And you saw people, like doing planks with my vitamins on

Speaker:

their back and they're, you know, juggling and like showing their

Speaker:

abs and it's like so out of their comfort zone. But they're doing it

Speaker:

because, you know what? Yolo, it's like, it's just fun and it's,

Speaker:

it's. I mean, and that's, that's just the start of it because we

Speaker:

always want those relationships. We want to nurture that because there

Speaker:

is truly something special there. And I mean,

Speaker:

Hannah can tell you more that as you know, and you're going to

Speaker:

be there. Speaking of community, we have our Body by

Speaker:

Transformation retreat that you're going to be at. And yeah, we

Speaker:

are pumped for this one. Yes, we're so excited.

Speaker:

So, yeah, so you're going to be there. We're excited for that. So May 1st

Speaker:

and 2nd, we'll see you there at Rose and Shingle Creek in Orlando.

Speaker:

But I think it is, it's so important, even just you talking about your best

Speaker:

friend who had surgery, it's going to be, you know, maybe two, two or so

Speaker:

months before you. And like, that's like the building, the beginning of your

Speaker:

community within this, this. And then like you said, people are reaching out to you

Speaker:

and that's. This community really is different than so

Speaker:

many other. I mean, somebody gets, you know, another

Speaker:

type of surgery, don't necessarily, like, have that support

Speaker:

system of other patients because there is so much more than just surgery

Speaker:

that's involved in this. It's lifestyle. And even going back to you talking about, you

Speaker:

know, changing the family, the how the family eats and things like that. And I

Speaker:

always find once the mom starts, it's like there's always that

Speaker:

snowball and it's kind of like breaking some intergenerational

Speaker:

curses almost sometimes too. But, you know, we do

Speaker:

also get moms and sisters and daughters and cousins and

Speaker:

grandpas, and we get these whole, like, family structures that end up all coming

Speaker:

and getting surgery or getting services, which is fun too. But I think it is,

Speaker:

it was, it was really fun to see everybody at the shoot because we don't

Speaker:

always have. We've done photo shoots with patients before and it's typically all

Speaker:

post op patients. So to have somebody there that was pre op, it was just

Speaker:

kind of like, first of all, why don't we do this more often? Like,

Speaker:

silly us. But it was, it was so great. To kind of see you guys

Speaker:

connect with them and even just to realize, like, oh, yeah, like, these are real

Speaker:

life people that have gone through this. And I think that's why

Speaker:

we are so excited about this upcoming event in May. Because,

Speaker:

like, he's like, we're saying, like, there's so much you can do online and we

Speaker:

appreciate, appreciate. We love our virtual support groups. We love, you know,

Speaker:

connecting with people, obviously, virtually for our consults and things like that. But there

Speaker:

is just something different about being in that room with somebody

Speaker:

who has gone through, you know, this experience

Speaker:

and, and maybe not the same exact pathway, but

Speaker:

I know that there's going to be other people at the retreat who said, yep,

Speaker:

I was, I was the kid at the other weight Watchers meeting, you know, when

Speaker:

I was 13 or I went through that same kind of, you

Speaker:

know, kind of thing. So there is always that, like, deeper connection. And I

Speaker:

know too just like, for, for people that follow you and are in the area

Speaker:

and like, they're like, wait, I just want to come and like, see her. Like,

Speaker:

I want to see this in real life. Like, they can. Avi, they are welcome

Speaker:

to come too. We're excited for all of that. Yes,

Speaker:

same. And, and Kim as well. When I met Kim at the photo

Speaker:

shoot, I just messaged her last night like, hey, what are we locking in our

Speaker:

room? Because I'm so excited. I can't wait. And I'm so glad that I was

Speaker:

able to meet someone there that I can go in the room with

Speaker:

because I, I was going to bring my best friend, but it's her. They'll be

Speaker:

out of town, so him is perfect. So I'm just like, you know what, this

Speaker:

is amazing. And I'm going to try to get some other people to come, but

Speaker:

at least I have my roomie already. I'm so excited. I can't wait.

Speaker:

So, yeah, I love it. Yeah. And Kim. So just so everyone knows, Kim is

Speaker:

our, our winner of our scholarship contest that we put on in December.

Speaker:

So she's another Orlando lady and she's a teacher. And she was

Speaker:

just also just like you. You guys definitely, like, immediately clicked. It

Speaker:

was awesome. And just I was so. I'm really excited. We were like, wait,

Speaker:

this is, this is precious. Like, we really were like standing in. The background

Speaker:

being kind of weird probably. But like, I didn't, I didn't see that coming.

Speaker:

Yeah, right? Yeah. Yeah, we were really excited

Speaker:

about that too. Yeah. And the thing I love about the pre op, so we

Speaker:

talk a lot about this and I know that you put yourself out there on

Speaker:

the regular. You, you, like you said you present yourself really well and I'm sure

Speaker:

you have lots of pics and videos of yourself just by kind of the n

Speaker:

what your day to day involves. But a lot of people

Speaker:

will say one of their biggest regrets is that they don't have

Speaker:

pictures of them before. Like, like even maybe in your phone. Like

Speaker:

you're really put together. But do you have those like unflattering kind

Speaker:

of like moments where you feel like man, I felt pretty

Speaker:

low that day like cuz I don't care who you are. Like there's moments where

Speaker:

you're like yeah, I'm just like I'm just gonna like kind of like sit on

Speaker:

the couch and veg out and just chill and then like do we capture

Speaker:

kind of that sort of stuff? Not really. So it's really cool that we got

Speaker:

some like full body shots which might also be something that you

Speaker:

might feel like you need to avoid. So that we're really going to be

Speaker:

like showing this whole transformation in a way that

Speaker:

we've never done. We've never actually followed somebody in such a series like this

Speaker:

where we're talking here before surgery. We're going to be there

Speaker:

just recording your moments right before you go back as you're going to sleep in

Speaker:

the operating room in the recovery and then right after

Speaker:

surgery and then these milestones as you're losing weight

Speaker:

in this first year and beyond. I think it's going to be like the

Speaker:

Truman Show. People are going to be very invested. Like what's she doing now? Is

Speaker:

she eating? How she feeling, what she's losing, how she's, you know, all these things.

Speaker:

It's. Yeah, I'm glad that we're, I'm glad, I'm so excited

Speaker:

to, for this next 365 to see really what's going on. Me

Speaker:

too. I think so. It's gonna, it's gonna be amazing. And I,

Speaker:

with me having sometimes I have like that creative block but

Speaker:

this surgery of this journey, it also

Speaker:

gives me a reason, it gives me something to talk about without having to think

Speaker:

about it. Because usually I'm planning my content, you know, I plan

Speaker:

but all I have to do is just set up the camera because I have

Speaker:

something all ready to talk about because they're wanting to know like what

Speaker:

are you eating? How are you feeling? It's, it's a no brainer

Speaker:

for me with this. So this is a whole new thing series that

Speaker:

I'm going to start. So it's I'm so ready to let my followers know

Speaker:

because one person mentioned in my messages,

Speaker:

she stated she, she's happy that I'm going to show like the

Speaker:

whole process because just like me, a lot of

Speaker:

people overthink things so they think it's a lot more that comes into it. Some

Speaker:

people didn't even know it was like a 45 minute surgery and it,

Speaker:

you know, recovery is like a day or two. You know, they think you just,

Speaker:

you're just down like a regular cosmetic surgery or any other surgery.

Speaker:

So able to show my followers, you know,

Speaker:

the full process. I'm so ready. I'm ready to take on the task and I

Speaker:

do have unflattering videos and pictures

Speaker:

because usually all my everyone that knows me when they're taking my pictures, they

Speaker:

have to take like 50 so I can get at least two perfect pictures. So

Speaker:

I have some that I'm just like, oh, ankle's horrible.

Speaker:

So I know someone else who's like that.

Speaker:

Who could that be? Meanwhile, like here. Don't know. Whatever. It's what it

Speaker:

is, Hannah. For myself,

Speaker:

like, well, yeah, no, I think that's true. And like boy. And then it

Speaker:

tells, does tell you like, man, this is reawakening me. Like the other day you

Speaker:

posted like three like fire pieces of content like in five

Speaker:

minutes or so. Like it keeps coming like here we go. Like I can't

Speaker:

stop. And I, and I, I love that. You know, you're right. It's

Speaker:

sometimes there is like a writer's block or just like, yeah, like there's

Speaker:

just like such a blot to like what should we do? What should I say?

Speaker:

How should I want to. I want to do something but I. Don'T know what

Speaker:

it is. But now it's like, wow, there's just endless,

Speaker:

endless content coming your way, my friends, for all of those

Speaker:

listeners. Oh, I'm so ready. And I'm just like, you know what?

Speaker:

Because I've, I've been talking with my, with

Speaker:

my friend, I have a social media or content bestie and I'm like, I

Speaker:

have to get into vlogging, like my day

Speaker:

and so forth. So like this is not only, you know,

Speaker:

this journey is something that I want to be, be on, but I've,

Speaker:

it's opening that door for me as well. But like with YouTube and so forth,

Speaker:

I've been like stuck right there, foot at the door, just like, I don't

Speaker:

know how to do it. I don't know. I'm nervous about just vlogging.

Speaker:

But this is giving Me that reason because before I'm

Speaker:

just like, I don't know what to talk about. I don't know where to start.

Speaker:

So yeah, I'm so ready. I'm so ready for the surgery.

Speaker:

It's life changing for me. I pray it's

Speaker:

life changing for body by bariatrics. I want to help bring so many

Speaker:

people and influence people to come and just make the decision.

Speaker:

The best decision that I've made in a while

Speaker:

per the patients that I spoke with at the photo shoot and

Speaker:

everybody else, everybody says it's the best decision. So I'm next to say

Speaker:

that myself. Can't wait. Oh my gosh. Yes. So

Speaker:

I know that you have a lot of friends and we talked about you being

Speaker:

a mother obviously. So I have to know what it, you know,

Speaker:

what do your kids think about, about what you're about to

Speaker:

do because you've been very open and transparent not just with your followers but with

Speaker:

your own inner family. So how do they feel about it? Because they're old enough

Speaker:

to understand what you're doing. Yep. So my

Speaker:

13 year old, he's just like, okay, mom, like I, I think

Speaker:

they're, they're hearing me, but they're not hearing me like

Speaker:

until I actually go through with the surgery and they see

Speaker:

me completely eating different and so forth. I feel

Speaker:

they will know that I'm very serious

Speaker:

because I've been mentioning, you know, wanting to lose weight for a long

Speaker:

time now. So that's why I stated they, they've seen

Speaker:

me quit so much. So I don't know, I don't know if they're taking me

Speaker:

serious when I'm, I'm like, hey, I'm gonna get surgery. It's, it's happening now.

Speaker:

I know I've been talking about it for a long time, but it's happening now.

Speaker:

So once they, once it happens and

Speaker:

they see, you know, the weight start to come off and

Speaker:

you know, I'm changing and I just, I'm wait, I'm

Speaker:

ready to see, you know, how they feel about it. My daughter has

Speaker:

always said so. Not

Speaker:

only have I been bullied in my school, but I'm bullied

Speaker:

at my kids school too. You know, you know like you go

Speaker:

to meetings or

Speaker:

my kids had hot chocolate and something for Christmas

Speaker:

or something. And this is their first time in public school.

Speaker:

They were in private school before, so at public school it's

Speaker:

a lot different I guess nowadays. But when they

Speaker:

went back to school, my eight year old said a kid in his class said

Speaker:

that his mom is fat. So my daughter is

Speaker:

nine. She's just like, nobody. My mommy's not fat. Like, she's kind of like

Speaker:

shallow howl or something. Cause I'm like, baby, I'm. I'm a little

Speaker:

heavy. But my son is like, well, I was really upset. He was

Speaker:

like, I don't like that people call you fat. And he was a little

Speaker:

embarrassed and he was just like, well, can you just not come to the school

Speaker:

anymore? And I was just like, oh no. Oh

Speaker:

my God. Like, oh my God. Because it was. And I'm just

Speaker:

like, what? I'm that girl. Like, are you serious? Like, what? And

Speaker:

I'm just like, that's so mean. And my daughter was like, that's so mean. Like,

Speaker:

why would you even say that? And it's those two. It's my

Speaker:

8 and 9 year old that I want to see. I want them to see

Speaker:

me make that change. I don't want them to feel embarrassed that their

Speaker:

mom is. Plus I'm about to start crying again. But I don't want them to

Speaker:

feel embarrassed by me. My daughter

Speaker:

doesn't feel embarrassed by me. But when he said that, I was just like,

Speaker:

okay, it's been a long time since I've been affected by a fat joke, but.

Speaker:

Cause usually I don't care. My 13 year old, he is in middle school,

Speaker:

he's in 8th grade. And everyone says he has a cool mom. Like, everybody,

Speaker:

you know, he gets praise for his mom. But my 8 year

Speaker:

old is getting a different feedback from the kids in his class. So

Speaker:

my daughter, her class is different as well. They're just like, oh my

Speaker:

God, your mom's so pretty. I came to,

Speaker:

they had honor roll, so. And also I go to everything at this

Speaker:

school pretty much. And the feedback that my daughter

Speaker:

get from her classmates and her friends is

Speaker:

completely different than my 8 year old. So

Speaker:

I'm just like, wow, they're bullying us over here.

Speaker:

But I raise over here. And I'm just like, I wear the cutest outfits, you

Speaker:

know, I make sure I'm so cute when I go to the school. And I'm

Speaker:

like, what? They. I mean, yeah, they can call me Cat,

Speaker:

but I'm like, I don't want you to feel like you don't want me to

Speaker:

come to the school, like. And Jeriah, my daughter's like, no, my

Speaker:

friends love when you come to the school. And I'm just like, oh my God.

Speaker:

So I want to. I don't

Speaker:

even, I don't even want to say I want to lose the weight. Just so

Speaker:

that people cannot talk about us. Because I can

Speaker:

care less about what anybody say, but I don't want them to feel,

Speaker:

you know, any. I don't want them to be embarrassed by

Speaker:

me. I don't want, I don't want my 8 year old to say that. That

Speaker:

really, it struck a little nerve and I was just like, woo,

Speaker:

wait, wait, let me hold it together. Because I don't. I didn't know. My

Speaker:

emotions were everywhere. Was everywhere. I was ready to fight, cry,

Speaker:

scream, I don't even know. I was just like, oh, that's kind of mean.

Speaker:

I shed a tear. He's like, I'm sorry, Mom. I'm not gonna say anymore. And

Speaker:

I'm okay to feel how you want to feel. And I know that it's hard

Speaker:

going to school because kids are mean. Kids are mean.

Speaker:

So it's okay. I understand where you're coming from. I know you didn't say it

Speaker:

to, you know, hurt me. You just don't want.

Speaker:

He doesn't want, you know, to deal with those kind of

Speaker:

things at school. I don't want him to feel like he have to go to

Speaker:

school and defend me because what if he wants to fight the kid? Now

Speaker:

you're in trouble. It's just a lie. A lot of layers into

Speaker:

that one. I don't think I should get off the table.

Speaker:

Cut behind you have a scalpel. That's okay. No, okay. No.

Speaker:

It's a lot. Yeah. It's triggering. It's traumatic.

Speaker:

You were transported to a place and a time

Speaker:

that, that, that there's a scab on there. But that thing kind of gotten

Speaker:

picked free there. And to hear from your son

Speaker:

who, who just. Who clearly loves you and means well, but

Speaker:

it's just like, oh, my kids say stuff to me all the time. Like, Jesus,

Speaker:

like, I mean dudes, eight too, right?

Speaker:

Like, yeah, you have an eight year old son too. Like it's a wild

Speaker:

time for a kid too. Yeah. Every second. I'll go, I'll just be walking like,

Speaker:

stop, Mommy. I'm like, what? They're like, you look like you're dancing. You're so embarrassing.

Speaker:

And I'm like, oh, God's sake, I was just walking. I don't even know. Okay.

Speaker:

Oh, I'm not ready for all of that. Oh yeah, they're, they're, they're

Speaker:

brutal. They're brutal on it. Mommy, why are your boobs so

Speaker:

saggy? Like, dear God, I'm just watching. It's their fault

Speaker:

too. Sorry, kids. I could say I should. You're exactly

Speaker:

right. Thank you, Hannah. Yeah. You're there to help me

Speaker:

to fight these kids off. Yeah. But no, in seriousness, that

Speaker:

people. God, kids are cruel. Gosh.

Speaker:

But it is. It's like you. You again, I think you can put out there

Speaker:

and. And be positive about all these things, and it still

Speaker:

isn't going to change everybody's mind. And it's not gonna. You know,

Speaker:

it's. We can't solve every problem for every single person. And

Speaker:

like you said, you just don't want it. It's not even you necessarily. It's like

Speaker:

you want to, like, insulate your kids from this and all of that,

Speaker:

too. And so. Yeah. Poor little buddy, though.

Speaker:

But I feel like that, you know, once

Speaker:

they see me losing weight, I don't even. I hate to even

Speaker:

feel like I want to lose weight just for them to feel better

Speaker:

about me in public. But, like, I.

Speaker:

It struck a nerve so bad that usually when we go out in public, like,

Speaker:

I'm. People are always telling me, you know, oh, you are so beautiful,

Speaker:

or I will go to the grocery store. And I'm. You know, I get compliments

Speaker:

from men and women all the time. And so he knows. Cause

Speaker:

sometimes he's like, I don't know. You know, I don't know

Speaker:

because I've been single for a while as well, so he's like, can you just

Speaker:

not get a boyfriend? I'm just like, my son. Is he a lot like, he

Speaker:

is a lot. So. But he is a lot, like, that's a little ruthless.

Speaker:

And then he. I got so many compliments that weekend. He was just like,

Speaker:

so. And I was like, I told you that I'm that girl. Every time I

Speaker:

get a compliment, I'm like, I told you that was that girl. You know? So

Speaker:

these people at school make you feel like your mom is anything less than beautiful.

Speaker:

Like, don't let them make you feel like that. You know,

Speaker:

in all honesty, I think I look better than his mom who said that. So,

Speaker:

though, if. Here we go.

Speaker:

Stay tuned for this. This is a reality show here that we're

Speaker:

tuning in for. We're going to get it. The public school system.

Speaker:

Exactly. Like, what? Oh, my goodness.

Speaker:

Well, like, this has been so good. So fun. Thank you for sharing.

Speaker:

The highs, the lows, and everything in between the messy middle. And I think

Speaker:

that that is something I'm really obsessed with. And I. And I want

Speaker:

to end with that. I think that there's so many people out there, like you

Speaker:

said, that you are helping by just sharing it all. You're not just sharing, oh,

Speaker:

here's my before and here's my perfect after. Happily ever after.

Speaker:

Well, what happened between here and there, like, we don't talk about it.

Speaker:

And sometimes that stuff, that, that, that progress,

Speaker:

that slow, steady, just climbing in your way forward, back to

Speaker:

who you want to be and how you want to live your life, I think

Speaker:

is. I think that's the most powerful part of it. So we thank you

Speaker:

so much. We're practicing gratitude towards you to bring it full circle

Speaker:

that, that you are here, you're sharing it. You're willing to

Speaker:

come on this podcast to share it with your followers and also to

Speaker:

attend the Body By Transformation retreat that we're having, which

Speaker:

we're going to start to drip that agenda out slowly of all the

Speaker:

incredible, incredibly fun things we're doing over those two days.

Speaker:

So, yeah, you're going to be at forefront of that. I'm sure people are going

Speaker:

to want to come out, meet you, take pictures and all that. I have great

Speaker:

conversations too. Yes. I can't wait.

Speaker:

I'm ready for everything. So I do. Thank you so much, Dr.

Speaker:

Nova. I can't thank you enough. Oh, my God. Thank you.

Speaker:

Speaker:

featuring her back here again after surgery.

Speaker:

We'll, we'll have some, some more conversations with her. We're really excited for all of

Speaker:

this. Absolutely. Well, thanks again for being on

Speaker:

and we're staying tuned for Next Stop Surgery. So I'll see you in person

Speaker:

here in two weeks. Let's do it. I'll be there, too. I'm coming to help

Speaker:

record everything. So, yes, I'll be your. I'll be your social media girl for the

Speaker:

day. I can't wait. Yeah, we'll get all the comments. She'll be. She can run

Speaker:

two cameras. So we're gonna get it all down. So we'll have, you'll have your

Speaker:

tripod. We're gonna get the whole set up and everything. Thank you. I was definitely

Speaker:

thinking about that. I'm like, I need to find somebody that is gonna record.

Speaker:

I got you. I'll be there. We got you. We got you. We do it.

Speaker:
