Shownotes

Born fair-skinned in East LA, often called a 'weta', Violet Canales was exposed to exclusion, even within her own Latino community. Her father escaped the violence of El Salvador's Civil War. Her mother is second generation Mexican-American. Even so, Violet found herself living in two different worlds and feeling "not good enough" for either of them.

Questioning her Latinadad, Violet aimed at successfully fitting into American culture. She has two degrees, a Masters and works in corporate America. And yet, she met the same barrier of non-acceptance.

Listening to Violet's story will bring you to tears, empathizing with her story and rallying to create the comunidad that gets disrupted when questioning cultural identity. By the end of the episode, you will be laughing at the commonality that we all share and realize there are more of us here than we realize.
