Welcome to 12 Minute Converse with Jesus Believers.
Speaker:God chose first to have a conversation with us, His creation.
Speaker:Our prayer is that this listening space brings growth and transforms your life forever.
Speaker:Praise God for you.
Speaker:How are you doing today?
Speaker:I am blessed.
Speaker:It's a great pleasure to connect with you.
Speaker:Tell us what part of the world are you in today?
Speaker:So I am from South Africa and I'm calling in from South Africa as well.
Speaker:So definitely living in one of God's most beautiful countries.
Speaker:Active seems to be your keyword.
Speaker:Active faith but active bodies as well.
Speaker:Where did that come from?
Speaker:I've been through this health journey where God really just showing me that I get to be a fit witness for Him, right?
Speaker:Turning my workouts into worship.
Speaker:And so I wanted a cool name, right?
Speaker:Cool ministry name that really just portrays what it's all about.
Speaker:So active faith is really just being actively in the Word of God, meaning with our bodies, right?
Speaker:Being a good spirit of our bodies and how we get to just, again, working out shouldn't be from striving or perfection.
Speaker:It should be from grace.
Speaker:It should be for His glory, right?
Speaker:And that's where it all started.
Speaker:So you mean I shouldn't get abs in the first week?
Speaker:I mean, if it's part of God's plan, I'm not saying no.
Speaker:But, you know, it shouldn't just be for physical appearances, right?
Speaker:We should be doing it for also just saying thank you for what Jesus did on the cross for us and saying thank you that we get to live and move and have our being in Him, right?
Speaker:And that everything that we are doing should point back to Him.
Speaker:And that's what I think the Game Changer is all about.
Speaker:What's been your journey with the need for being active?
Speaker:I grew up overweight and everything and being called names and all of that.
Speaker:And I started my wellness journey and I did it for worldly pleasures, right?
Speaker:I wanted to lose weight because I wanted to look good, feel good in my body and everything.
Speaker:I want to say like about five years ago, really like when active faith started.
Speaker:So I am a Praise Moves instructor, which is the Christian alternative to yoga where we get to move our bodies because, I mean, God gave us these bodies and He gave us ways that we could move our bodies that still glorifies Him.
Speaker:So through Praise Moves, we actually get to speak the word of God of ourselves while we are working out, right?
Speaker:That was the Game Changer.
Speaker:And for me, just going to the gym, just doing what I was doing, just to get the physical appearances and switching over to working out where I get to speak the word over my body, over my situation, over my atmosphere, right?
Speaker:I was not just exercising my physical body, but I was actually exercising my spirit as well, where I now get to say scripture that I didn't actually have to like sit down and memorize that just gets to bubble up from the inside, I think is what the Game Changer is all about.
Speaker:So when we invite God into our health and wellness journeys, it's literally we taking His hand and He's leading us through this, right?
Speaker:And because comparison is the ultimate stealer of joy, right?
Speaker:And so that's what the enemy wants because he knows our joy comes from the Lord.
Speaker:Nehemiah 8 verse 10 tells us that.
Speaker:And so if He can steal our joy, keeping us in this place where we just compare ourselves to other people, who most likely either did the journey long before we even started, but we just seeing the end results, right?
Speaker:And that's what we are working towards, where now you get to put on these new glasses.
Speaker:And that's what I had to do, because I realized that I actually had fitness as a idol, right?
Speaker:Every time I walk past the mirror, I would look at myself and be like, you know what?
Speaker:I wasn't body shaming myself, but really when the Holy Spirit dropped it in my heart that, you know what?
Speaker:I'm thinking more about what my body needs to look like than I'm spending time in the Word of God and spending time with Jesus that really, you know, it hits home in so many different levels that I don't want other people to experience that as well if I can help them, right?
Speaker:To see that they can do this with God.
Speaker:So that is my journey in a nutshell.
Speaker:How did you come to meet Jesus?
Speaker:I was really blessed to actually grow up in a Christian home.
Speaker:I know Jesus like forever.
Speaker:And so it's really difficult for me when people ask me like, okay, but when did you actually give your life to the Lord?
Speaker:Because I don't have an actual like timestamp, you know, it was this time.
Speaker:But it was like around six years old, I made the actual commitment.
Speaker:And so it's really been a blessing to me that I got to, you know, live with Jesus from the get-go, right?
Speaker:And we then moved over to a different church and just a different denomination that's Pentecostal Charismatic Church.
Speaker:And that's when I truly got to experience the Holy Spirit really for the first time, because the previous church that we were in, no, they didn't really talk about the Holy Spirit.
Speaker:They talked about Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit, but not, you know, on the level that we believers actually need, you know, knowing that, you know what, I can call on the Holy Spirit at any moment and he's there, right?
Speaker:And seeing him as his own person, yet part of the Trinity was the ultimate game changer for me.
Speaker:What was that like, experiencing the Holy Spirit?
Speaker:For me, I feel like because I'm so used to the Holy Spirit's presence, right?
Speaker:It's those moments when you're in church and the Holy Spirit just comes out of nowhere and just floods you with the presence of God that you can't help but just soak it in.
Speaker:That is what I want to say is my Holy Spirit moment is, even though he's with me 24-7, he still surprises me with just like this drenching of the presence of God that you can't do but just soak it in.
Speaker:What have been other people's reaction to the active faith?
Speaker:Most of the people, they leave with their lives transformed.
Speaker:That's because that's the whole goal is through the active faith journey, you have to leave changed, right?
Speaker:If you apply the principles, you can't help but not be the same person that you used to be, because you're walking closer to God in your health and wellness journeys.
Speaker:Even like myself, right?
Speaker:Even someone who has been a believer for many years, right?
Speaker:I still get to leave transformed every single time because there's always something that I need to work on that God's just like, you know what?
Speaker:We need to just work on this a little bit more because we're only human, right?
Speaker:We can never be perfect.
Speaker:So people literally leave transformed and I'm not getting the glory for it.
Speaker:God gets all the glory for it because I'm not the one doing the work.
Speaker:He's the one.
Speaker:I'm just merely the empty vessel that he gets to work through.
Speaker:It sounds as though it's heart healing that you get to experience as opposed to the immediate effects of a bigger muscle or a stronger core.
Speaker:Is that accurate?
Speaker:Yeah, it's all about spirit, soul and body.
Speaker:What's the best way for someone to connect with you?
Speaker:So you can go to activefaith.co.za and you'll find my website.
Speaker:That is my website and you'll find all my information there.
Speaker:Whether you're just looking for Christian fitness classes or if you're looking for the wellness coaching.
Speaker:What's on the horizon for you?
Speaker:This year I've got a few speaking engagements at different local churches in my country but I'm excited to be adding more classes, Christian fitness classes soon and hopefully some more coaching as the year goes on.
Speaker:When you think of a Bible character that fits where you are, who you are today, who is it?
Speaker:So Leah comes to mind because she wanted to give Jacob a son, right?
Speaker:And then she gave him so many sons and each one had a specific name and that name meant something, right?
Speaker:And then the last one, she finally, I kind of want to say the penny dropped and she realized that she was doing it for her husband, a man where she needed to do it for God, right?
Speaker:And for me that feels like the same story.
Speaker:I did everything for physical appearances and then the penny dropped and I realized, you know what, I get to do this for God.
Speaker:He gets all the glory for it.
Speaker:Have you found yourself showing up better with this model than what you were doing previously for fitness?
Speaker:Absolutely because there is just so much grace that comes with this.
Speaker:What's one of the scripture verses that keeps coming up?
Speaker:So Zechariah 4 verse 6, not by might nor by power but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts, is one of my all-time favorites.
Speaker:Five years from today you're listening to this conversation, what's one message you'd leave for future you?
Speaker:Just make sure that you're doing this with God all the way, right?
Speaker:Because if you're not doing this with God, what's the point of doing it at all?
Speaker:Couldn't say it better.
Speaker:Again, Monique, a pleasure.
Speaker:I treasure, thank you for being on What is Inspired by 12 Minute Contemporaries.
