Speaker:

Hey everybody, welcome back to another

edition of the Daily Bible Podcast.

2

:

Happy Saturday and men, we

want to see you this morning.

3

:

To learn about irreproachability.

4

:

Irreproachability is

what we're calling it.

5

:

Irreproachability.

6

:

It sounds like we're speaking in tongues.

7

:

Not quite, but yes, you should

come and hear the tongues of men

8

:

talk about irreproachability.

9

:

Yeah.

10

:

Give us a high view.

11

:

What is irreproachability?

12

:

It is the quality of being above approach.

13

:

So it's the same idea captured

in a different word, but above

14

:

approach is the kind of person who

lives with character integrity.

15

:

In fact, We liked this topic so much

that we're developing a whole, a

16

:

whole men's retreat around the idea.

17

:

So this is going to be your sample pack,

your teaser into the whole weekend that we

18

:

plan on doing for you in a couple months.

19

:

But this is going to be your entry

into that, the foray into that.

20

:

But it's important because this

is what First describes the

21

:

quality of a qualified man.

22

:

This is what Paul says to Timothy

and to Titus should characterize the

23

:

kind of man that's in leadership.

24

:

Now you might say, I'm not a pastor.

25

:

I'm not aspiring to be a pastor.

26

:

However, the pastors are meant

to be these things so that the

27

:

church would be these things.

28

:

They're meant to be models

for everybody else to follow,

29

:

which is why we're telling you.

30

:

You ought to aim to be qualified even if

you never become a pastor at compass or

31

:

any other church So these qualities are

important for us to talk about we want you

32

:

to be encouraged by them We want you to

be challenged by them and we think this

33

:

first one's going to do that Is that?

34

:

Let's take the, the quality able to teach.

35

:

Is that one that you would still say,

man, every, every man out there should

36

:

strive after that, that qualification.

37

:

Okay.

38

:

You're qualified.

39

:

Yes.

40

:

No pun intended, but

yes, because a man, okay.

41

:

If, if a man is, I'm

going to lead a family.

42

:

If he's going to even be helpful in

his workplace or even go to school

43

:

and try to work with other groups, I

think it's a really helpful thing to

44

:

aspire to because it translates to

so many other areas of one's life.

45

:

Most immediately, you can

think about your family life.

46

:

You being able to communicate your

thinking, your, your desiring to

47

:

your wife and to your kids will

really help esteem your leadership.

48

:

It will help solidify and clarify your

leadership if your family can say,

49

:

Dad taught us and here's what he's

saying about this particular thing.

50

:

This is not just for pastors.

51

:

All men are called to lead their families.

52

:

And so it's really helpful if a man

is gifted and, and even more than

53

:

that, gifting speaks about someone's

natural tendency skill speaks

54

:

about someone's effort and work

into learning a particular thing.

55

:

So even if you're not gifted, you

could still have the skill of teaching.

56

:

You may not have it in spades like

someone else does, but you can still

57

:

learn to teach and still be helpful

to the people that you love and lead.

58

:

So absolutely a man should aspire to that.

59

:

That's helpful.

60

:

That's good.

61

:

Yeah.

62

:

Hey I have beef with you.

63

:

Oh, I'm ready.

64

:

I'm looking around and noticing that

I feel like you have scrubbed your

65

:

birthday from all of our resources

that we would have available to

66

:

find out when your birthday is.

67

:

That's not true.

68

:

I, so I hide it on my social media

cause I don't think it's necessary.

69

:

Okay.

70

:

I feel like it's one of those things where

people feel obligated to say something.

71

:

And so I'm like, I don't want to, I

don't want to, Put an obligation on you.

72

:

I'll just take it out.

73

:

So on my, my Facebook, I think that's

the most obvious place I hide it and

74

:

I don't allow posting on my wall.

75

:

So sue me.

76

:

Okay.

77

:

What about planning

center planning center?

78

:

I, I, I re I recently took it out.

79

:

Cause I'm thinking, you know,

again, I don't want to create

80

:

obligation or thing not set well.

81

:

And the thing is you can, I've

not hidden it all my life.

82

:

I'm okay with telling people about it.

83

:

I'm not, Against it.

84

:

I just don't want to put the obligation

on people to say, Oh, I got to make

85

:

sure to say something to Pastor Rod.

86

:

So here's my pushback.

87

:

My pushback is this.

88

:

When people are reminded of

your birthday, they're given an

89

:

opportunity to be grateful for you.

90

:

And the one that receives the Thanksgiving

for you and your life and the impact that

91

:

you've made on people's lives is God.

92

:

Sure.

93

:

So there's an opportunity for people.

94

:

To say, you know what?

95

:

Oh, it's Pastor Rob's birthday today.

96

:

I'm grateful for him.

97

:

He's impacted me in a great way.

98

:

For example, on Facebook, like, you

left a lot of connections, a lot of

99

:

relationships back in AV, and not

all of them do you keep up with on a

100

:

regular basis, but you've impacted a

lot of people back there who, If they

101

:

get on Facebook and they're like,

Oh, it's Pastor Rod's birthday today.

102

:

It's an opportunity for them to

reflect on what God's done through

103

:

your life in impacting them.

104

:

Sure.

105

:

And I guess I would, I'd be happy to admit

that I'm a bit of a hypocrite here because

106

:

I would gladly encourage other people.

107

:

Hey, keep it out there.

108

:

People want to know, people

want to care for you.

109

:

Yada, yada, yada.

110

:

I'm also sensitive though, that

I get a lot of attention just

111

:

by writing my position, right?

112

:

We, we, people look at

us, they talk to us.

113

:

They, they see us in certain

lights and in certain ways.

114

:

And that's good.

115

:

That's good that we lead and

we're self consciously doing that.

116

:

But I'm also aware.

117

:

I don't want to draw

unnecessary attention.

118

:

I already asked for a lot of attention

when I stand up in front of a pulpit

119

:

and say things, or when I'm behind a

microphone and I'm singing things and I'm

120

:

having other people sing things with me.

121

:

So I just, I don't know.

122

:

It's probably a personality quirk more

than it is a principled, Stance that I,

123

:

that I have that I just, I don't want to

create more attention than is necessary.

124

:

Okay.

125

:

Well, you got attention

on the podcast now.

126

:

Well, thank you.

127

:

I appreciate that.

128

:

Yeah.

129

:

Anyways, we're grateful for you and it's

a big one coming up too Yeah, it's been

130

:

kind of an existential crisis of sorts.

131

:

I just bought a harley Okay, i'm

getting my motorcycle license.

132

:

I'm getting a tattoo.

133

:

I sky sky dovid sky dovid No, I don't

plan on doing that I've done none of

134

:

those things honestly, but I am aware I

just think about man 40 years is a great

135

:

gift I'm appreciative of that And I am

More dogged and determined than ever

136

:

to make my life count for something.

137

:

I don't want to waste it So

I I feel the pressure of man.

138

:

This is a big one.

139

:

Am I doing am I on the right track?

140

:

Am I doing the right thing?

141

:

Am I using my life in the way

that god would be pleased by?

142

:

I ask myself that pretty

regularly, but this is a big one.

143

:

So I feel the weight of it.

144

:

Yeah Yeah.

145

:

Yeah.

146

:

I remember when I turned 40.

147

:

It was a long time ago, man, that

it was decades ago, I think that

148

:

you turned, I wear 60 really well.

149

:

You did.

150

:

You crush it.

151

:

Your beauty skincare routine.

152

:

All the ladies are asking,

you know, everybody wants

153

:

to, everybody's been asking.

154

:

All right.

155

:

X is 2829.

156

:

Our scripture reading

for the, for the day.

157

:

Chapter 28, this chapter details

the garments that were to be

158

:

made for Aaron and his sons.

159

:

These were more than elaborate costumes,

as they held a lot of symbolism regarding

160

:

the role that Aaron was performing.

161

:

They had the names of the tribes

of Israel show up multiple times

162

:

on these garments inscribed in the

various things that he was going to

163

:

wear when he went in before the Lord.

164

:

And it was in, in order that he would

be reminded every time that he was

165

:

bearing the, the people before the

Lord, he was interceding on behalf

166

:

of the people he was representing.

167

:

He was mediating between

God and the nation.

168

:

And so having the names of the tribes on

his shoulders and on the chest plate would

169

:

always remind him of the fact that he was

in there to do more than just cover his

170

:

own sins or more than, than just intercede

on behalf of a nation without God.

171

:

Much thought as to who made up that

nation He was being reminded that these

172

:

are god's people and these are god's

tribes And that's who he's going in there

173

:

on behalf of and then on top of that

He's wearing a turban and the turban

174

:

had a placard right on the front of

it that said holy to the lord which is

175

:

cool and and Terrifying as well, right?

176

:

I mean just the the responsibility of

the leaders of the the priest there to

177

:

be sanctified to live a holy life we're

going to see what happens with natav

178

:

and abihu not too Far away from this

but they were not Holy to the Lord.

179

:

And we're gonna see that that

doesn't go well for them.

180

:

But there's a lot of symbolism there.

181

:

This is not just, Hey, we

want something to look fancy.

182

:

This is, there's a reason for

what God is doing with these

183

:

these articles of clothing that

the prince was supposed to wear.

184

:

The priest was supposed

to wear the prince, huh?

185

:

Prince priest.

186

:

Okay.

187

:

Well there will be a prince and a priest.

188

:

That is true that to speak of later on.

189

:

I think one of the things that stands out

here is the, for glory and for beauty.

190

:

I think that's really cool.

191

:

It's a really cool idea that god isn't

just interested in a utilitarian existence

192

:

He wants us to enjoy and experience his

glory in some mitigated fashion So he

193

:

speaks to us he condescends to us by

saying look i'm going to have you design

194

:

these garments for glory And for beauty

and I think that's really Important and

195

:

powerful as we think about that today.

196

:

We're not priests.

197

:

We're not priestesses We're we're we're

New Testament Christians, but I still

198

:

think the principle applies that God

loves beauty and glory and therefore

199

:

we should aspire to make our places,

our homes, our churches, glorious and

200

:

beautiful in some way, shape or form.

201

:

It doesn't have to look like the temple.

202

:

I'm not saying that, but I think there is

a principle there that God loves beauty.

203

:

He designed it and he wants to reflect it.

204

:

Yeah.

205

:

So you mentioned we're not priest.

206

:

We're not priestesses.

207

:

Yeah.

208

:

It's obviously that that is that

terminology that language is abused

209

:

in the mormon church and in different

ways But even in amongst christians,

210

:

sometimes you'll hear the priesthood

believers and you know sometimes the

211

:

those that are in the family family

Family ministry camp or whatever.

212

:

We'll talk about the the husband or

the man of the house priest of his home

213

:

Yeah, talk about that a little bit.

214

:

Is that?

215

:

Is that okay?

216

:

Do we press that too far?

217

:

What?

218

:

Probably in our camps And our

demographic with our people, the

219

:

reformed camp in particular, I think

we probably use it in a wrong way.

220

:

And we, we apply something that's right

and good in a, in a wrong application.

221

:

And sometimes we do that with a

lot of theology, we'll take good

222

:

theology and misapply it, and

therefore we'll make it bad theology.

223

:

In this case, here's what I mean by that.

224

:

The priesthood of all believers

is this concept presented by Peter

225

:

that says, look, none of you have to

have a mediator to take you to God.

226

:

You can go to God by yourself.

227

:

He's provided the path for you.

228

:

He is your great high priest, and he's now

paved the way by his blood so that you now

229

:

have direct access to God and therefore.

230

:

You're part of the kingdom of priests.

231

:

You are now given free

and direct access to God.

232

:

I love that and I think that's worth

all of us celebrating and thanking God

233

:

for even fist pumping about But when

it comes to us being the priests of our

234

:

families That's a misappropriation of

this old testament tax, and I think it

235

:

doesn't it doesn't help clarify what God

is doing under the new covenant In fact,

236

:

it distorts it the clarification comes

when we recognize the priesthood rule

237

:

is to mediate someone between God and

man You You now don't need a mediator.

238

:

You are a priest.

239

:

You're you're mediated between god

and man You have direct access and

240

:

you can go to god on behalf of others

You can pray for the lost you can pray

241

:

for your children You can pray for

lots of people and in that way you

242

:

function as a priest But you're not

this kind of priest and you shouldn't

243

:

think of yourself in this kind of in

this kind of way Although you can say

244

:

look i'm so thankful that I have direct

access I don't have to wear the ephod.

245

:

I don't have to wear the cool

breastplate Although I think

246

:

these are really neat objects.

247

:

I have direct access to god.

248

:

I think that's the point

What would you say to that?

249

:

Yeah, I would agree.

250

:

I I think the danger is

it leads your family.

251

:

It compartmentalizes your family and makes

it something separate from the church.

252

:

As though, you know, well, I have the

primary responsibility for the spiritual

253

:

oversight of my family and you make

that As something that exists outside

254

:

of the body of christ competing with

the body of christ competing with

255

:

yeah And that you're not going to

find anywhere in the new testament.

256

:

In fact, you'll find quite the opposite.

257

:

We are called to Be a part of the body

of christ and by extension our families

258

:

need to be part of the body of christ.

259

:

So I I get hesitant when I hear,

you know, well, i'm the priest in

260

:

my house I I think it's usually

well intended when people say that.

261

:

Yeah, but I think You It's

not helpful terminology.

262

:

Yeah, you as the head of the household,

when it comes to the Bema seat of Christ,

263

:

you're going to have to give an account

for how you spiritually led your family.

264

:

A hundred percent.

265

:

And a big part of that, Jesus is

going to want to know, did you

266

:

lead your family into my bride?

267

:

Did you teach your

family to love my bride?

268

:

And so that's, that's important.

269

:

So I would agree with

your assessment of that.

270

:

Chapter 29, then we get into the

ordination process of Aaron and his

271

:

sons includes a lot of death here.

272

:

And I think that's on purpose on

God's part, because it's reminding

273

:

Moses and Aaron and his sons and

the people of of the what's at stake

274

:

here, that atonement has to be made.

275

:

And this, you know, it's, it's so helpful

to, to have the new Testament, to have

276

:

the book of Hebrews, to look back at

passages like this and to say, you know,

277

:

Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, they were sinners.

278

:

They needed the blood of bulls and goats

to atone for their sins before they

279

:

could intercede for behalf of the people.

280

:

But we have a high priest who

doesn't need those things who brought

281

:

his own blood and he was sinless.

282

:

And so there's so much

richness that we get.

283

:

We talked, I think, in yesterday's episode

about illusions and, and illusions.

284

:

And the Old Testament, New Testament,

there's ways that the New Testament

285

:

really helps us get a much better

understanding of the Old Testament.

286

:

And that's a great example.

287

:

When you read the book of Hebrews and

then you read what's going on here.

288

:

In fact, if you're hungry for more

Bible right now, as we go through

289

:

the law, if you went through the book

of Hebrews, I think that would be so

290

:

enriching for you because the good call.

291

:

Yeah.

292

:

The book of Hebrews just adds such

a helpful depth to our understanding

293

:

of what God's doing here and how

it's really pointing in a lot of

294

:

it to to the coming of Christ.

295

:

Yeah, Hebrews.

296

:

Yeah, it's super, super

good, super helpful there.

297

:

The, the different offerings that are

going to be mentioned here, you're

298

:

going to see the sin offering, the

burnt offering, the food offering.

299

:

There's the, the consecration, the blood

on the earlobes and the toes, which again

300

:

was probably what, what they would hear,

what they would listen to and the things

301

:

that they would do, where they would

go just consecrating their, their life.

302

:

Talks about future ordinations, talks

about a celebratory meal there, the

303

:

seven days of ordination, consecration,

all the instructions again, because

304

:

this is brand new for what God is

doing here with the people of Israel.

305

:

Yeah.

306

:

And I think that that whole week

long event, you read this and you

307

:

think, Oh yeah, this must have taken

all of like, Three or four hours.

308

:

This took seven days.

309

:

Yeah, they did this for seven days.

310

:

And so this is interesting because

you wonder what's in the white space.

311

:

We read what's happening here,

and this is all symbolic.

312

:

And I'm sure that it was done with

great pomp and circumstance, but you

313

:

wonder, okay, I, we talked about this

the last time we came over these texts.

314

:

Did they go to the bathroom?

315

:

Did they leave the premises at all?

316

:

We know that God sees Bathroom usage.

317

:

Let's keep it pc here as at least

unclean So there had to have been

318

:

exceptions to the rule here about how

long they were on the temple or the

319

:

tabernacle premises And what they left

for and when they came back The point

320

:

isn't to detail all of these things.

321

:

I find it interesting to think about

them But the point is to show look

322

:

how much effort and time was put into

consecrating these men To function

323

:

as priests for the people of israel.

324

:

This was no small job.

325

:

This is a great honor And it was important

it was probably the most important role in

326

:

In israel at the time and it would carry

that same connotation and significance

327

:

throughout their history Until the coming

of christ who became a priest after the

328

:

order of melchizedek, which is so cool

This is you have to read this stuff to

329

:

appreciate jesus role And I think this

is worth it trudging through the mud

330

:

of some of like what does this mean?

331

:

What is the symbolic

nature of this is worth it?

332

:

Because when you get to jesus it

gives you so much more appreciation

333

:

for him rather than saying.

334

:

Oh, yeah He's a priest fantastic Yeah.

335

:

I agree.

336

:

I agree.

337

:

Well, let's pray.

338

:

And then we'll be done with this episode.

339

:

God, we are grateful for how you've

caused the Bible to be put together

340

:

in such a way as to give us such a

greater appreciation by understanding

341

:

the New Testament so that we can more

deeply understand and appreciate the Old

342

:

Testament, like the book of Hebrews with

what we're reading through right now.

343

:

We're grateful that we have the, the

great high priest and not a human

344

:

being that we are going to anymore.

345

:

But Jesus.

346

:

And so help us to have that not just

appreciation, but help us to lean

347

:

into that in our relationship with

you to draw near through him who

348

:

is able to save us to the uttermost

and to be grateful for that as well.

349

:

So we thank you for this.

350

:

We praise you for this in Jesus name.

351

:

Amen.

352

:

Amen.
