Clarity. Simplicity. Certainty. When it comes to turning our finances over to an expert, these are the three guiding lights that Host Josh Bretl, founder of FSR Wealth Strategies, wants us to keep in mind.

Retirement planning represents a different phase of life and requires the right expertise, which is why this episode of Retirement Equals Freedom is focused on providing you an all-important checklist to consider before turning your valuable assets – and future well-being – over to a financial adviser.

What are their credentials? Do they have solid knowledge of how to draw down assets – including how to sequence withdrawals and downstream tax implications? How about their style of communication and the quality of their team?

These are just a few of the factors to consider before deciding to whom you want to entrust your hard-earned savings.

If you’ve been planning all your life for a fabulous retirement, congratulations! But in order to get through the distribution phase of your journey, you’re going to want to have the right adviser in place.

And after you listen to this episode, you’ll know just what you’re looking for as well as the right questions to ask. To put it another way (in the words of computer scientist Alan Kay): “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” FSR Wealth is all about helping you find the tools to do exactly that!

Josh Bretl:

The best way to predict the

Josh Bretl:

future is to create it."

Josh Bretl:

I realize that we talk about a lot of what you

Josh Bretl:

as the client have to do.

Josh Bretl:

But we don't talk about what the advisor should be doing.

Josh Bretl:

And when you're going into retirement, what you should

Josh Bretl:

be looking for in an advisor.

Josh Bretl:

You want to make sure that your advisor has

Josh Bretl:

extensive tax knowledge.

Josh Bretl:

It is the single greatest variable that will

Josh Bretl:

impact your retirement.

Josh Bretl:

And most of them won't even touch it with a 10-foot pole.

Josh Bretl:

there's also a whole different thought

Josh Bretl:

process for distribution.

Josh Bretl:

Because, at some point in time, you're going to have

Josh Bretl:

to spend that pile of money.

Josh Bretl:

If your advisor isn't a specialist in that distribution

Josh Bretl:

process, that distribution phase, you could be losing

Josh Bretl:

something, unknowingly,

Dave Schmidt:

When it comes to turning your finances over

Dave Schmidt:

to an expert, there are three guiding lights to keep in mind.

Dave Schmidt:

Clarity, simplicity, and certainty.

Dave Schmidt:

'Cuz let's face it, retirement planning is a

Dave Schmidt:

whole different ballgame.

Dave Schmidt:

You need the right expertise, which is why this episode of

Dave Schmidt:

The Retirement Equals Freedom Podcast is your go-to checklist

Dave Schmidt:

before trusting a financial advisor with your precious

Dave Schmidt:

assets and future wellbeing.

Dave Schmidt:

Credentials?

Dave Schmidt:

Check.

Dave Schmidt:

Knowledge of asset drawdowns, and tax implications?

Dave Schmidt:

Double check.

Dave Schmidt:

But wait, there's more.

Dave Schmidt:

We're talking about their communication style and

Dave Schmidt:

the quality of their team.

Dave Schmidt:

These folks are gonna be your financial

Dave Schmidt:

BFFs, so choose wisely.

Dave Schmidt:

And after tuning into this episode, you'll know

Dave Schmidt:

exactly what to look for and what questions to ask.

Dave Schmidt:

It's time to channel your inner fortune teller, because

Dave Schmidt:

as the computer scientist, Alan Kay once said, "The

Dave Schmidt:

best way to predict the future is to create it."

Dave Schmidt:

This is The Retirement Equals Freedom Podcast.

Dave Schmidt:

Your host, Josh Bretl, is the owner of FSR Wealth Strategies.

Dave Schmidt:

And for the last 20 plus years, Josh has been helping

Dave Schmidt:

fine folks like you gain the confidence to make retirement

Dave Schmidt:

the best part of your life.

Dave Schmidt:

And me?

Dave Schmidt:

Who the heck am I?

Dave Schmidt:

Well, I'm Dave.

Dave Schmidt:

Hello.

Dave Schmidt:

I'm Josh's longtime friend, co-host, and big fan of

Dave Schmidt:

those cute little Furby's from back in the nineties.

Dave Schmidt:

I really hope they make a comeback back.

Dave Schmidt:

All right all right all right.

Dave Schmidt:

Enough of me talking.

Dave Schmidt:

Let me let you let me end my introduction so

Dave Schmidt:

you can enjoy the show.

Josh Bretl:

Today is the last day of school

Josh Bretl:

in Elmhurst schools.

Dave Schmidt:

Oo, congratulations.

Josh Bretl:

So, after today is summer.

Dave Schmidt:

Love it.

Josh Bretl:

We don't get summer.

Josh Bretl:

But I still think summer is this feeling of freedom, these

Josh Bretl:

new things you get to do.

Josh Bretl:

It's really a cool time.

Josh Bretl:

But Missy and I were talking about it, in regards to summers.

Josh Bretl:

You don't have to wake up at a certain time.

Josh Bretl:

The kids can wake up whenever they want to wake up.

Josh Bretl:

There's like these lazy mornings.

Josh Bretl:

And her and I can sit outside and have a cup of

Josh Bretl:

coffee before I go to work.

Josh Bretl:

It's a wonderful time

Dave Schmidt:

Despite my disdain for the temperature during

Dave Schmidt:

the summer here in Chicago land, I was telling Carla

Dave Schmidt:

and Landon the same thing.

Dave Schmidt:

In fact, I've been repeating it every day.

Dave Schmidt:

I love summer.

Dave Schmidt:

I love when they're home.

Dave Schmidt:

And like you said, it's just, everything's

Dave Schmidt:

a little bit slower.

Dave Schmidt:

But yeah, I'm pumped too.

Dave Schmidt:

So you're saying with summer here, I can come

Dave Schmidt:

in 11, and leave at 12?

Josh Bretl:

No.

Dave Schmidt:

Oh.

Josh Bretl:

No.

Dave Schmidt:

Okay.

Josh Bretl:

But you can have coffee outside with your wife

Josh Bretl:

before you come in if you want.

Dave Schmidt:

Oh, that's nice.

Josh Bretl:

We were talking about your disdain for heat?

Josh Bretl:

And I had this story I forgot to tell you.

Josh Bretl:

So there was someone in our office yesterday.

Josh Bretl:

We'll call him the perfect Ronald, because...

Dave Schmidt:

Oh, yes.

Dave Schmidt:

Yes, yes.

Josh Bretl:

And he knows you well.

Josh Bretl:

his future son-in-law was there as well.

Josh Bretl:

And he knows you well.

Dave Schmidt:

He does.

Josh Bretl:

But they're making fun of you, for

Josh Bretl:

your disdain for heat.

Josh Bretl:

And I started to, I go, have you heard about

Josh Bretl:

his time at Bruegger's?

Josh Bretl:

And they had not heard this.

Josh Bretl:

I said, "Well, when he was in high school, he was the

Josh Bretl:

manager of a Bruegger's Bagels for two years.

Josh Bretl:

And I would come in after hours and visit you, and

Josh Bretl:

I would find you in the freezer, doing your paperwork.

Dave Schmidt:

I thought that story was going to

Dave Schmidt:

go a different route.

Dave Schmidt:

Because I would also take my breaks, in the

Dave Schmidt:

cooler, and fall asleep.

Dave Schmidt:

Our buddy Vince Lucca worked with me there,

Dave Schmidt:

one summer I think.

Dave Schmidt:

And he's like, "Oh, Schmee's in the cooler.

Dave Schmidt:

Taking a nap."

Dave Schmidt:

Oh, I miss those days.

Josh Bretl:

So I have a cool story for you.

Josh Bretl:

This last week...

Josh Bretl:

Or it was Wednesday of this week.

Josh Bretl:

Everything's wrapping up at the end of the year's.

Josh Bretl:

All sorts of things that they've been doing, performances,

Josh Bretl:

and stuff like that.

Josh Bretl:

Well, Alex has been doing School of Rock now, for I don't know,

Josh Bretl:

probably four or five months.

Josh Bretl:

And they've been learning three songs.

Josh Bretl:

And it's the same three songs that we hear on repeat.

Josh Bretl:

And he is trying to learn the electric guitar.

Josh Bretl:

So he's got a little guitar...

Josh Bretl:

I think I've talked this before.

Josh Bretl:

He's really into it...

Josh Bretl:

Well, Wednesday night was his performance.

Josh Bretl:

And we walk in and it's a small room.

Josh Bretl:

It's probably about the size of where we're in right now.

Josh Bretl:

And it's got eight kids in this band.

Josh Bretl:

So, four drummers, three guitars, and all that stuff.

Josh Bretl:

So to give the drummers all a chance, they play the songs

Josh Bretl:

over and over and over again.

Josh Bretl:

The guy who's running it, hands out earplugs

Josh Bretl:

at the beginning of this.

Josh Bretl:

"Here guys, everyone put earplugs in."

Josh Bretl:

They have a rule, all the kids have to wear ear protection.

Josh Bretl:

And I'm like, "I go to concerts.

Josh Bretl:

I don't eat ear protection."

Josh Bretl:

Oh my God, I threw those things in so fast.

Josh Bretl:

But I want to give you a taste of it here.

Josh Bretl:

'Cause I recorded a little bit of it.

Dave Schmidt:

Oh, cool.

Josh Bretl:

See if you know what song this.

Dave Schmidt:

Wow.

Josh Bretl:

I mean it didn't sound this good...

Josh Bretl:

But Missy and I were thrilled.

Josh Bretl:

You guys all heard that.

Josh Bretl:

It did not sound great.

Josh Bretl:

But for a bunch of 7, 8, 9 year olds?

Josh Bretl:

They were amazing.

Josh Bretl:

And watching my son go at it, it was this

Josh Bretl:

really proud dad moment.

Josh Bretl:

He's so into this guitar.

Josh Bretl:

I have a picture I'll send you, you can post

Josh Bretl:

with the show notes.

Dave Schmidt:

No videos?

Josh Bretl:

I have actually the video that I just

Josh Bretl:

played, there was a video.

Josh Bretl:

We can play that out there.

Dave Schmidt:

If you're comfortable sharing

Dave Schmidt:

that, I think that'd be really cool to see.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, it was really cool.

Josh Bretl:

It was a neat experience.

Josh Bretl:

The guy said too, he goes, "if you ever can't make these

Josh Bretl:

in the future, we stream them live on their Facebook page."

Dave Schmidt:

oh, so, he doesn't have technical issues

Dave Schmidt:

with streaming on Facebook.

Josh Bretl:

Not like us.

Dave Schmidt:

Aye.

Josh Bretl:

We also tried something new this week.

Josh Bretl:

You and I did our first ever Java with Josh.

Josh Bretl:

Which was supposed to be a timely current-events type...

Josh Bretl:

It was almost a video podcast, if you will.

Josh Bretl:

We're going to try and do them monthly.

Dave Schmidt:

Uh-uh, not try to do them monthly.

Josh Bretl:

We're going to do them monthly.

Josh Bretl:

In fact, we have the next one set for June...

Dave Schmidt:

23rd.

Dave Schmidt:

Wednesday the 23rd.

Josh Bretl:

Wednesday the 23rd.

Dave Schmidt:

It's a Wednesday of that week.

Josh Bretl:

I think it's 23rd.

Josh Bretl:

But if anyone wants to listen in.

Dave Schmidt:

We'll link to the landing page and our

Dave Schmidt:

show, What's Up With That?

Dave Schmidt:

Because then you can opt in to get notifications when

Dave Schmidt:

we're about to go live.

Josh Bretl:

Awesome.

Josh Bretl:

That sounds good.

Dave Schmidt:

Awesome.

Dave Schmidt:

Really quick about summer.

Dave Schmidt:

Yesterday was Landon's last day.

Dave Schmidt:

It was a half day.

Dave Schmidt:

So I am notoriously late to pick him up?

Dave Schmidt:

And I was three minutes late again yesterday.

Dave Schmidt:

But I got a spot right in front of the school, don't know how.

Dave Schmidt:

But it was really cool, 'cause it was just packed.

Dave Schmidt:

I feel like every family from Briar Glen was there.

Dave Schmidt:

And I get out of my car, I just hear all the students chanting

Dave Schmidt:

"Summer, summer, summer."

Dave Schmidt:

I thought it was really cute.

Josh Bretl:

It's so cool.

Josh Bretl:

Today's their last day, I'm going to pick them up.

Josh Bretl:

School gets out at 1:15 today.

Josh Bretl:

And I can't wait.

Josh Bretl:

Because it's going to be a party.

Josh Bretl:

Last year, last day of school, it rained.

Josh Bretl:

So everyone's scattered.

Josh Bretl:

This year, it's going to be cool.

Josh Bretl:

It's going to be fun to hang out.

Josh Bretl:

In fact, there's a party going at my house right now

Josh Bretl:

that I'm not invited to?

Dave Schmidt:

The moms?

Josh Bretl:

Missy is doing a last day of school

Josh Bretl:

mom-mosas, she's calling it?

Dave Schmidt:

Love it.

Josh Bretl:

I think there's like 30-some-odd moms over there.

Dave Schmidt:

Oh, that's so cool.

Josh Bretl:

And I wanted to hang out and bring guys.

Josh Bretl:

And she goes, "No, you're not invited."

Josh Bretl:

So, I get it.

Josh Bretl:

It was fun.

Josh Bretl:

But.

Dave Schmidt:

Well, Josh, we'll do our own thing, when

Dave Schmidt:

you're back from vacation.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, actually this is another thing I

Josh Bretl:

want to tell you about.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah, let's hear it.

Josh Bretl:

I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow morning.

Josh Bretl:

I'm going to be gone, out of the office for a week.

Dave Schmidt:

And I'm running things around here.

Josh Bretl:

That scares me.

Josh Bretl:

But, what scares me more?

Josh Bretl:

Is I almost spend more time with you than I do with my wife.

Dave Schmidt:

Mm-hm.

Josh Bretl:

And this is going to be like the longest

Josh Bretl:

we've been separated?

Dave Schmidt:

Yep.

Josh Bretl:

For six months now.

Dave Schmidt:

I promise I wouldn't get emotional

Dave Schmidt:

live on a podcast, but it's going to happen.

Dave Schmidt:

I'm going to be so lost without you.

Dave Schmidt:

Actually, I'm going to send you videos of me eating

Dave Schmidt:

the mangoes over there.

Josh Bretl:

Not if there's any left after today.

Dave Schmidt:

They're in the shot, actually.

Dave Schmidt:

We didn't move them.

Dave Schmidt:

So now you see it here.

Dave Schmidt:

I'm going to point with my pen, right...

Dave Schmidt:

There.

Dave Schmidt:

The Sam's Club mangoes.

Josh Bretl:

We have found these dried mangoes from

Josh Bretl:

Costco, and Sam's Club, that are out of this world.

Dave Schmidt:

I do mention in one of my intros

Dave Schmidt:

from a few podcasts ago.

Dave Schmidt:

"A fan of the dried mangoes from Costco."

Dave Schmidt:

All right, well, we're about nine and a half

Dave Schmidt:

minutes in, Josh.

Dave Schmidt:

People are probably just hitting "close" on their podcast app.

Dave Schmidt:

So let's get to it.

Josh Bretl:

Well, what I wanted to talk about today...

Josh Bretl:

And this comes from some conversations I've had in

Josh Bretl:

the last couple months...

Josh Bretl:

What you should look for, as a retiree, when you

Josh Bretl:

are hiring an advisor.

Josh Bretl:

And what this is stemming from, is, I had

Josh Bretl:

someone in my office...

Josh Bretl:

Who I like a ton.

Josh Bretl:

And she says to me, she goes, "I've had my advisor

Josh Bretl:

for the last 20 years.

Josh Bretl:

We do the same thing over and over again.

Josh Bretl:

But now that we're getting close to retirement and I ask them,

Josh Bretl:

'What should I be looking for?

Josh Bretl:

What's going to change?' And they just said, 'Oh,

Josh Bretl:

don't worry about it.

Josh Bretl:

Nothing we have to do.'"

Josh Bretl:

That didn't hit me right.

Josh Bretl:

I like them a lot as a person.

Josh Bretl:

But I'm worried I need to be learning more.

Josh Bretl:

So, I want to spend a few minutes talking

Josh Bretl:

about that today.

Dave Schmidt:

Perfect.

Josh Bretl:

And you've heard me talk a lot, so..

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

You said I can nap while you take this, and I can just...

Josh Bretl:

Well.

Josh Bretl:

We'll see where we go with this here.

Dave Schmidt:

We'll see where we go.

Josh Bretl:

And this first one is, I was talking about this.

Josh Bretl:

This comes from Erin.

Josh Bretl:

She wanted me to make sure I point out the difference between

Josh Bretl:

accumulation, and distribution.

Josh Bretl:

I think we talked about this on a prior episode.

Josh Bretl:

But the accumulation versus distribution phase.

Josh Bretl:

So, accumulation is what everyone thinks about

Josh Bretl:

in your working years.

Josh Bretl:

It's the idea that you're saving for something.

Josh Bretl:

You're saving for retirement.

Josh Bretl:

Some people are saving for college.

Josh Bretl:

Sometimes you're saved for a new house, or a car.

Josh Bretl:

You're earning money, so you're saving for something.

Josh Bretl:

And you're trying to build up this pile of money.

Josh Bretl:

There's one thought process for that.

Josh Bretl:

But there's also a whole different thought

Josh Bretl:

process for distribution.

Josh Bretl:

Because, at some point in time, you're going to have

Josh Bretl:

to spend that pile of money.

Josh Bretl:

If your advisor isn't a specialist in that distribution

Josh Bretl:

process, that distribution phase, you could be losing

Josh Bretl:

something, unknowingly.

Josh Bretl:

And my father and I were discussing a great

Josh Bretl:

quote the other day.

Josh Bretl:

As he said, "The best way to predict the

Josh Bretl:

future is to create it."

Dave Schmidt:

oh.

Josh Bretl:

I know.

Josh Bretl:

I thought that was huge.

Dave Schmidt:

Well, it's much deeper than mine.

Josh Bretl:

What was your quote you were

Josh Bretl:

discussing with my father?

Dave Schmidt:

All things being equal, fat people use more soap.

Dave Schmidt:

I've lived my life to that motto.

Josh Bretl:

That would want to explain a few things.

Josh Bretl:

Why it runs out so fast.

Dave Schmidt:

Oh yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

I think I may have to write a new haiku about this.

Josh Bretl:

Like when Missy asked me, as we're packing for

Josh Bretl:

vacation, how come my suitcase always is a lot heavier?

Josh Bretl:

I said, "Oh, my clothes are a lot bigger than yours."

Dave Schmidt:

right.

Dave Schmidt:

Right.

Dave Schmidt:

Carla spends hours packing.

Dave Schmidt:

I spend five minutes.

Dave Schmidt:

I have two pairs of pants and three shirts.

Dave Schmidt:

And it's 118 pounds.

Josh Bretl:

It is.

Josh Bretl:

Well, that's because my pair of jeans, there's like

Josh Bretl:

five times the cloth in one of her pair of jeans.

Dave Schmidt:

That's what I'm saying.

Josh Bretl:

Man, we are way off.

Dave Schmidt:

We are.

Dave Schmidt:

You better fly through this.

Josh Bretl:

So, let's talk what to look for an advisor.

Josh Bretl:

And the first thing that we look for is experience.

Josh Bretl:

And the fact that they work quite a bit with

Josh Bretl:

the distribution process.

Josh Bretl:

They're used to working with social security

Josh Bretl:

and pensions and taxes.

Josh Bretl:

They know how Medicare comes into play.

Josh Bretl:

They know how to talk about the taxation on social security.

Josh Bretl:

They know investment strategies to limit volatility,

Josh Bretl:

and all that fun stuff.

Josh Bretl:

So let's go through this a little bit.

Josh Bretl:

There's some things that are the same, there's some

Josh Bretl:

things a little bit different.

Josh Bretl:

But one is looking at qualifications and credentials.

Josh Bretl:

So look at their background, look at their education.

Josh Bretl:

Make sure that they actually know what the

Josh Bretl:

heck they're talking about.

Josh Bretl:

But two is a big one.

Josh Bretl:

This is the fiduciary duty.

Josh Bretl:

The fiduciary standard is something that's becoming more

Josh Bretl:

and more regular out there.

Josh Bretl:

But what that says is, that you have to do as an advisor,

Josh Bretl:

whatever is in the best interest of your client, no matter what.

Josh Bretl:

There's a lot of advisors that still operate on

Josh Bretl:

a suitability standard.

Josh Bretl:

So all that says is, "Hey, you only have to do what you

Josh Bretl:

think is good for the client."

Josh Bretl:

It may not be the best, but it can be good for them.

Josh Bretl:

And it's a different mindset that's there.

Josh Bretl:

So, the fiduciary is a big thing that's out there.

Josh Bretl:

We talked about the specialization.

Josh Bretl:

I think that's important.

Josh Bretl:

Something else is a transparent fee structure.

Josh Bretl:

You want to know what you're paying.

Josh Bretl:

In today's day and age, with technology, the cost of the

Josh Bretl:

investments should not be the one that's paying your advisor.

Josh Bretl:

Charging a flat fee is huge.

Josh Bretl:

And if the fee isn't sitting there, right on your

Josh Bretl:

statement, so you know exactly what they're charging you?

Josh Bretl:

There's something wrong there.

Josh Bretl:

They're hiding something from you that's out there.

Josh Bretl:

So this next one, I always like as well.

Josh Bretl:

We've been doing this for a while.

Josh Bretl:

But asking for references and reviews.

Josh Bretl:

As an advisor, we've been told over and over again...

Josh Bretl:

In fact, the rule was, the SEC always said,

Josh Bretl:

"You can't get reviews.

Josh Bretl:

You can't ask people to give you reviews."

Josh Bretl:

Well, that law changed this year.

Josh Bretl:

Now there's a lot of compliance things around it?

Josh Bretl:

But as long as the advisor is following good

Josh Bretl:

practices, they can actually give out reviews now.

Josh Bretl:

So ask for them.

Josh Bretl:

It's no different...

Josh Bretl:

This is a big decision in your life.

Josh Bretl:

So you should see what other people are looking for there.

Josh Bretl:

This last...

Josh Bretl:

That's not last one.

Josh Bretl:

Man.

Josh Bretl:

Our listeners wish.

Josh Bretl:

This next one here, the comprehensive

Josh Bretl:

financial planning.

Josh Bretl:

There's a lot that goes into retirement planning.

Josh Bretl:

Income planning, investment management, tax planning, estate

Josh Bretl:

planning, risk management.

Josh Bretl:

We talked about Medicare.

Josh Bretl:

Even knowing the legal side of it.

Josh Bretl:

If they're just focusing on your investments, this

Josh Bretl:

is not someone who you're looking for retirement.

Josh Bretl:

They need to be able to incorporate everything.

Josh Bretl:

In your accumulation years, it's really the only thing

Josh Bretl:

you have control over.

Josh Bretl:

We talk about this in the workshops.

Josh Bretl:

So, if that's all they focus on, great.

Josh Bretl:

But in your distribution years, it becomes immensely important.

Josh Bretl:

This next one, people don't talk about.

Josh Bretl:

And compatibility and communication.

Josh Bretl:

You have to like your advisor.

Dave Schmidt:

Like you like me.

Josh Bretl:

Like I like you.

Josh Bretl:

Actually, we've said this before.

Josh Bretl:

You bring a great tone to this office.

Josh Bretl:

And it's a friendly, warm tone.

Josh Bretl:

And we have said before, we get along great.

Josh Bretl:

Our office has a great culture.

Josh Bretl:

And we'll often say, "What if the person doesn't like this?"

Josh Bretl:

And we're like, "Well then, we don't want them as a client."

Josh Bretl:

We get to choose who we work with.

Josh Bretl:

But the reverse is true.

Josh Bretl:

You have to like the advisor, because you're going to

Josh Bretl:

spend a lot of time, you're going to put a lot of trust

Josh Bretl:

and a lot of faith in them.

Josh Bretl:

And if you don't like them, others out there.

Josh Bretl:

You're not hurting my feelings.

Josh Bretl:

So we always get to say, "We get to choose who we

Josh Bretl:

work with, and you get to choose who you work with."

Josh Bretl:

So make sure that you get along quite well with them.

Dave Schmidt:

I'm making a point to tell everybody, like,

Dave Schmidt:

"Look, I know you love me.

Dave Schmidt:

But I'm not going to be the one you're talking to all the time.

Dave Schmidt:

So you got to like Josh.

Dave Schmidt:

You got to do it."

Dave Schmidt:

Because let's be honest, if people were coming

Dave Schmidt:

to work with me, you'd have a line out the door.

Josh Bretl:

We would.

Josh Bretl:

And we'd also have attorneys out the door wanting to get to

Josh Bretl:

know you a little bit better.

Dave Schmidt:

:

Erroneous, I tell you.

Josh Bretl:

The next one is a big one.

Josh Bretl:

It's clarity.

Josh Bretl:

I always say there's three things that a

Josh Bretl:

client is looking for.

Josh Bretl:

Clarity, simplicity, and certainty.

Josh Bretl:

So they want to have the ability to understand what your...

Josh Bretl:

Make it very clear what you're offering.

Josh Bretl:

What you're telling them, what your suggestions are.

Josh Bretl:

Make it simple for them to execute.

Josh Bretl:

And let them know that there's some certainty behind

Josh Bretl:

it, that this is what...

Josh Bretl:

There's a reason you want to do that.

Josh Bretl:

So they need to be able to give you good, clear information.

Dave Schmidt:

That's why I've long suggested you just present

Dave Schmidt:

everything in haiku form.

Josh Bretl:

I am not the literary

Josh Bretl:

mastermind that you are.

Josh Bretl:

I barely understand the difference between

Josh Bretl:

a metaphor and a...

Dave Schmidt:

Simile?

Josh Bretl:

Simile.

Dave Schmidt:

Mm-hm.

Josh Bretl:

Sure.

Josh Bretl:

So a haiku's...

Dave Schmidt:

Not your thing.

Josh Bretl:

No.

Josh Bretl:

I'm more of a limerick guy.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah, sure.

Josh Bretl:

This one can become tougher.

Josh Bretl:

But I do always encourage, find out what the education the

Josh Bretl:

advisor is continuously having.

Josh Bretl:

Make sure that they understand that there's things that

Josh Bretl:

are constantly changing, they're being updated.

Josh Bretl:

And then before we get into the biggest part, make sure they're

Josh Bretl:

accessible and available.

Josh Bretl:

And make sure that they have a team behind them that you like.

Josh Bretl:

So for example, in our office, we work as a

Josh Bretl:

really tight-knit team.

Josh Bretl:

Where you may talk to me, you're also talking to Erin and

Josh Bretl:

Sean and my father and Chuck.

Josh Bretl:

Our client service team.

Josh Bretl:

They can all pick up a lot of things that go out there.

Josh Bretl:

There's very rarely a financial emergency.

Josh Bretl:

But if there is, you want to make sure there's always someone

Josh Bretl:

available for you to talk to.

Josh Bretl:

Does that make sense, David?

Dave Schmidt:

:

Crystal clear, baby.

Josh Bretl:

All right.

Josh Bretl:

Now this last one is the biggest.

Josh Bretl:

I saved the best for last.

Josh Bretl:

And this is the tax knowledge.

Josh Bretl:

You want to make sure...

Dave Schmidt:

Hold on.

Dave Schmidt:

Hold on.

Alex:

Hashtag tax nerd.

Josh Bretl:

I know.

Josh Bretl:

I deserve that Al.

Josh Bretl:

You want to make sure that your advisor has

Josh Bretl:

extensive tax knowledge.

Josh Bretl:

It is the single greatest variable that will

Josh Bretl:

impact your retirement.

Josh Bretl:

And most of them won't even touch it with a 10-foot pole.

Josh Bretl:

Especially if they're not retirement specialist.

Josh Bretl:

So I want to go through some of the tax things

Josh Bretl:

we want to look at here.

Josh Bretl:

They want to make sure you have withdrawal strategies.

Josh Bretl:

They have a variety of different withdrawal strategies.

Josh Bretl:

It could help you with RMDs, where to take money

Josh Bretl:

from, what's going to be best for your situation.

Josh Bretl:

They want to be a good with social security optimization.

Josh Bretl:

Because believe it or not, taxes will impact when you

Josh Bretl:

should take social security.

Josh Bretl:

And should you wait?

Josh Bretl:

Should your spouse wait?

Josh Bretl:

Should you just take it early?

Josh Bretl:

All that fun stuff that comes in.

Josh Bretl:

Tax efficient investments.

Josh Bretl:

We did a whole series on tax efficient investments.

Josh Bretl:

And it's amazing to see how many people come in with

Josh Bretl:

portfolios that, with just some tax optimization, could

Josh Bretl:

earn them an extra couple percent completely risk-free.

Josh Bretl:

And all you did was minimize the tax drag that comes in there.

Josh Bretl:

That has to do with capital gains and tax loss harvesting,

Josh Bretl:

all of those fun things.

Josh Bretl:

Understanding the different tax advantage accounts.

Josh Bretl:

IRAs, Roth IRAs, when to move them.

Josh Bretl:

Even HSAs.

Josh Bretl:

HSAs can play a big role into people's retirement,

Josh Bretl:

if started young enough.

Josh Bretl:

That comes in there.

Dave Schmidt:

Health Savings Account.

Dave Schmidt:

I know.

Josh Bretl:

Oh, look at you.

Josh Bretl:

I was throwing acronyms out there, and you

Josh Bretl:

got it right away.

Dave Schmidt:

Here's why.

Dave Schmidt:

I have been yelled at no less than 24 times, in my

Dave Schmidt:

marriage with Carla, for forgetting to use our HSA

Dave Schmidt:

card when I go to the doctor or eye doctor or whatever.

Dave Schmidt:

So that's ingrained in my brain.

Josh Bretl:

Well let her know.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah?

Josh Bretl:

It can actually be a savings tool.

Josh Bretl:

If you don't need to use it, that money can grow

Josh Bretl:

tax-free and you can actually use it for retirement.

Dave Schmidt:

Let me make a note of this really quick.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, tell Carla that.

Josh Bretl:

Would you?

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

Well she's listening.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, she always does.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

So, Becks, would you tell Carla that,

Josh Bretl:

next time you talk to her?

Josh Bretl:

After you're listening to this in your world travels?

Dave Schmidt:

"Oh, David.

Dave Schmidt:

David."

Josh Bretl:

estate tax inheritance.

Josh Bretl:

This is going to become a bigger and bigger issue, especially

Josh Bretl:

as inflation kicks into play.

Josh Bretl:

We're seeing people with bigger and bigger estates, that, a

Josh Bretl:

couple years ago, didn't have estate tax issues, but now do.

Josh Bretl:

So, make sure your advisor knows what they're talking

Josh Bretl:

about with estate taxes.

Josh Bretl:

That they're looking at different tax law changes.

Josh Bretl:

They know what tax laws are coming down the pipe.

Josh Bretl:

Because it's not just planning for now, you're planning

Josh Bretl:

for the rest of your life.

Josh Bretl:

Know what's changing in the future.

Josh Bretl:

And lastly is, they have a good team behind them.

Josh Bretl:

Because they need to have a good estate planning

Josh Bretl:

attorney or a couple good estate planning attorneys.

Josh Bretl:

They need to have good CPAs that they can reference that.

Josh Bretl:

When they're giving advice, they can actually back it up.

Dave Schmidt:

Aren't you a CPA?

Josh Bretl:

I am a CPA.

Josh Bretl:

But if someone's listening to this in a different

Josh Bretl:

state, or as I said before, maybe they don't like me.

Josh Bretl:

Maybe they and I are too goofy, or whatever.

Josh Bretl:

That's okay with me.

Josh Bretl:

But find someone who has...

Josh Bretl:

Most advisors are not CPAs.

Josh Bretl:

I'm lucky to be one.

Josh Bretl:

But even if they don't choose me as an advisor, they should

Josh Bretl:

find somebody who has that tax knowledge, that comes out there.

Josh Bretl:

But that was it.

Josh Bretl:

I want to list those things and make sure the people

Josh Bretl:

understood that the difference is, they're looking through that

Josh Bretl:

accumulation to distribution.

Josh Bretl:

And when they're really looking for that clarity, and that

Josh Bretl:

simplicity, and that certainty.

Josh Bretl:

And the certainty comes to their life.

Josh Bretl:

And it's...

Josh Bretl:

My dad and I were talking before.

Josh Bretl:

Not your soap comment.

Josh Bretl:

But, "The best way to predict your future is to create it."

Josh Bretl:

That's that certainty.

Josh Bretl:

And that clarity and that simplicity can often

Josh Bretl:

create that certainty.

Josh Bretl:

As that comes into play.

Dave Schmidt:

You came back to the three words.

Josh Bretl:

I did.

Josh Bretl:

'Cause I looked at you write them down.

Josh Bretl:

And you're like, "He's not talking about those enough."

Dave Schmidt:

yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

I do like it, Josh.

Josh Bretl:

So.

Dave Schmidt:

Well, okay.

Dave Schmidt:

This was short and sweet.

Dave Schmidt:

I do think we...

Dave Schmidt:

As I put in the chapter markers...

Dave Schmidt:

"Two BFFs catching up on life."

Dave Schmidt:

I think we've probably spent more time on that

Dave Schmidt:

than we did with...

Dave Schmidt:

But this is nice.

Dave Schmidt:

I like these like fluffy episodes.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

I mean, this is fun.

Josh Bretl:

This is a fun one.

Josh Bretl:

This is a good one.

Josh Bretl:

I thought.

Dave Schmidt:

These are totally cool.

Dave Schmidt:

Were you thinking the same thing I was thinking?

Josh Bretl:

Time to dance?

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

You ready to dance?

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, I'm ready to dance.

Josh Bretl:

Wiggle a little bit.

Josh Bretl:

Let's do it.

Josh Bretl:

I'm really thinking of bird noises.

Dave Schmidt:

Oh, yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

Hey Mr.

Dave Schmidt:

Josh, let's take a break.

Dave Schmidt:

You've been talking for so long and my ears are sore.

Dave Schmidt:

Let's not make them snore.

Dave Schmidt:

Listening shouldn't be a chore.

Dave Schmidt:

So let's get to know Josh and Dave and watch our ratings soar!

Dave Schmidt:

That is a time-tested, never-gets-old bird noise.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, I don't think those birds fly either.

Josh Bretl:

It's supposed to be "soar" and I don't think those birds fly...

Josh Bretl:

Hey, you know what?

Josh Bretl:

Do roosters fly?

Dave Schmidt:

In our world they can.

Josh Bretl:

They do.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

Why not?

Josh Bretl:

Soar.

Dave Schmidt:

Soar.

Josh Bretl:

Okay.

Josh Bretl:

I assume you have a question, 'Cause you didn't let me

Josh Bretl:

pick one out of the podcast.

Dave Schmidt:

Nope, I got a question for you today.

Josh Bretl:

Oh boy.

Josh Bretl:

All right.

Dave Schmidt:

I'm going to go back to our beginning.

Josh Bretl:

Let's do it.

Dave Schmidt:

:

Summer starts today.

Dave Schmidt:

:

What is one thing on your summer bucket list that

Dave Schmidt:

:

you are looking forward to?

Josh Bretl:

Would this include predetermined travel?

Josh Bretl:

Or something that we haven't scheduled yet, but want to?

Dave Schmidt:

It could be something you're really

Dave Schmidt:

excited for this summer.

Josh Bretl:

Okay.

Dave Schmidt:

I mean, if you've got a big trip coming up.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

We are scheduled to go to Colorado.

Josh Bretl:

That's going to be more of a chore than anything.

Josh Bretl:

Love you family.

Josh Bretl:

Just kidding.

Dave Schmidt:

It's not because you're going with your family.

Dave Schmidt:

You're going to visit your extended family.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

All right.

Josh Bretl:

I got something.

Josh Bretl:

And it may sound super silly, but you all know

Josh Bretl:

me, I'm a simple guy.

Josh Bretl:

We're going to the Chicago Dogs game for my

Josh Bretl:

birthday, on June 4th.

Dave Schmidt:

Nice.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

My old man's in town, Big Mike from Colorado.

Josh Bretl:

You've heard that name come up?

Josh Bretl:

That's Big Mike, my dad.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah, yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

If we were a sports talk show, he'd be the

Dave Schmidt:

number one call-in guy.

Josh Bretl:

He would.

Dave Schmidt:

"Big Mike from Colorado's on the line again."

Dave Schmidt:

Big Mike...

Dave Schmidt:

Oo, shoot.

Dave Schmidt:

I may have just ruined the surprise.

Dave Schmidt:

Well, it's for my birthday, Dad, not for you.

Dave Schmidt:

But we're going to the Chicago Dogs game.

Dave Schmidt:

Actually, you won't hear this until after we already go.

Dave Schmidt:

So it's going to be a win-win.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.

Dave Schmidt:

I mean, we got a trip to Colorado coming up, which

Dave Schmidt:

it's going to be cool.

Dave Schmidt:

We're going to do boat rides, we're going to do river rafting.

Dave Schmidt:

That's all cool.

Dave Schmidt:

But to me, Chicago Dogs games sounds awesome.

Josh Bretl:

You know what?

Josh Bretl:

Chicago Dogs...

Josh Bretl:

For those of you that don't know...

Josh Bretl:

Is a local minor league baseball team.

Josh Bretl:

And it's right by O'Hare Airport.

Josh Bretl:

And they've really made entertainment a part.

Josh Bretl:

They've brought entertainment to baseball.

Josh Bretl:

And it's really a lot of fun to go.

Josh Bretl:

You can park right there for really cheap.

Dave Schmidt:

Yes.

Dave Schmidt:

Yes.

Josh Bretl:

You walk right in.

Josh Bretl:

The stadium's super friendly.

Josh Bretl:

I think hotdog is like a dollar.

Josh Bretl:

It's...

Dave Schmidt:

Food's not like Wrigley, but

Dave Schmidt:

it's not super cheap.

Dave Schmidt:

It's well run.

Dave Schmidt:

It's really fun.

Josh Bretl:

It truly is.

Dave Schmidt:

All right.

Dave Schmidt:

It's flip it around.

Dave Schmidt:

And reverse it, to you.

Josh Bretl:

Well, here's what I'm looking

Josh Bretl:

forward to this summer.

Josh Bretl:

My kids have finally become good swimmers.

Dave Schmidt:

Oo.

Josh Bretl:

And up until this point, they've

Josh Bretl:

been terrified of water.

Josh Bretl:

And I've been terrified of them near water.

Josh Bretl:

But they've spent this winter learning to swim.

Josh Bretl:

I can't wait this summer to go to waterparks.

Dave Schmidt:

Oo.

Josh Bretl:

I want to go to as many waterparks

Josh Bretl:

with these kids as we can.

Josh Bretl:

Because I remember as my childhood, my parents would

Josh Bretl:

take us to a waterpark.

Josh Bretl:

And my dad and I going down all these slides.

Josh Bretl:

And doing all these things.

Josh Bretl:

And I can't wait to do that with them.

Josh Bretl:

I'm sure I'll break my back going on a slide or whatever.

Josh Bretl:

But I'm sure looking forward to that.

Dave Schmidt:

Do you have any booked?

Josh Bretl:

We are taking the kids to The Bahamas.

Josh Bretl:

And our hotel has a water park in it.

Dave Schmidt:

Cool.

Josh Bretl:

Type thing.

Josh Bretl:

But no, even little things.

Josh Bretl:

We'll go to Rockford, or somewhere around here.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah, right.

Dave Schmidt:

That's cool.

Dave Schmidt:

Hey, you go to Bahamas.

Dave Schmidt:

I'll just set up my slip and slide in the backyard.

Dave Schmidt:

Same thing though.

Dave Schmidt:

We're totally cool.

Josh Bretl:

Oh, yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

You have a water park in your backyard.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, mm-hm, sure.

Dave Schmidt:

If the weeds and rocks don't kill you,

Dave Schmidt:

the slip and slide will.

Dave Schmidt:

All right.

Josh Bretl:

Dave?

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

I got a question?

Dave Schmidt:

What's that?

Josh Bretl:

Are you going to relate to anybody today?

Dave Schmidt:

Dave relates to retirees.

Josh Bretl:

You accused me earlier of trying to sneak

Josh Bretl:

a peek at what your...

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

...DR2R is.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

You asked if I can relate to retirees.

Dave Schmidt:

It's actually cool.

Dave Schmidt:

Because we're going to circle back.

Dave Schmidt:

Because you mentioned Bruegger's Bagels at the very beginning.

Josh Bretl:

Oh, really?

Dave Schmidt:

And you had no idea that that would be my DR2R.

Josh Bretl:

Uh-uh.

Dave Schmidt:

And when you told me about the theme

Dave Schmidt:

of today's episode...

Dave Schmidt:

What you should be looking for and asking for in an advisor...

Dave Schmidt:

I remember one of my advisors when I was young.

Dave Schmidt:

When I was starting my illustrious career

Dave Schmidt:

at Bruegger's Bagels.

Dave Schmidt:

We've talked about this several times.

Dave Schmidt:

You know Bruegger's well.

Dave Schmidt:

His name...

Dave Schmidt:

He was our lead baker for a while...

Dave Schmidt:

His name was Themba Fakude.

Dave Schmidt:

Do you remember?

Josh Bretl:

I remember Themba.

Dave Schmidt:

You remember Themba?

Josh Bretl:

Yeah, I do.

Dave Schmidt:

And he taught me many things in life.

Dave Schmidt:

Most of them being inappropriate now.

Dave Schmidt:

However, at the time, he was a very, very crafty chef.

Dave Schmidt:

I'm going to say chef.

Dave Schmidt:

That's probably giving him too much credit.

Dave Schmidt:

So our office, our restaurant, was about a block from Jewel.

Dave Schmidt:

He would combine ingredients, and he taught me how to just

Dave Schmidt:

use a few ingredients to make some really good food.

Dave Schmidt:

And I think partially...

Dave Schmidt:

I'm thinking about it now...

Dave Schmidt:

That could have been what inspired me to take

Dave Schmidt:

cooking classes, and start in culinary school.

Dave Schmidt:

But something simple, just cucumber with lemon and salt.

Dave Schmidt:

It blew my mind.

Dave Schmidt:

He would take the lox, the salmon?

Dave Schmidt:

And different ingredients.

Dave Schmidt:

And just go to town.

Dave Schmidt:

And it was the best.

Dave Schmidt:

And he would make it for everybody that

Dave Schmidt:

was working that day.

Dave Schmidt:

But my single favorite thing he did was he would just

Dave Schmidt:

simply go buy bulbs of garlic.

Dave Schmidt:

I'd take out the cloves.

Dave Schmidt:

And just olive oil and salt, throw them in the same oven

Dave Schmidt:

that we made Bagels in.

Dave Schmidt:

And staff would all be popping cloves of garlic at a time.

Dave Schmidt:

So yeah, roasted garlic, popping garlic.

Dave Schmidt:

I mean, this was my guy.

Dave Schmidt:

This was my advisor.

Dave Schmidt:

He would also...

Josh Bretl:

Themba.

Dave Schmidt:

Themba, man.

Dave Schmidt:

He would make us all pause, when there was no customers

Dave Schmidt:

in there, and dance.

Dave Schmidt:

He would turn the music up and dance.

Dave Schmidt:

He was just the happiest dude.

Dave Schmidt:

And so it gave me a new perspective.

Dave Schmidt:

I took myself too seriously in high school, a little bit.

Dave Schmidt:

That was my guy.

Dave Schmidt:

Themba.

Dave Schmidt:

Themba Fakude.

Dave Schmidt:

So yeah, retirees, I get it.

Dave Schmidt:

You need someone in your life like Themba, or

Dave Schmidt:

Josh, to get you through.

Dave Schmidt:

Take it away.

Josh Bretl:

Okay.

Dave Schmidt:

Now look, you were the beneficiary of my

Dave Schmidt:

Bruegger's Bagels career.

Josh Bretl:

I love Bruegger's Bagels.

Dave Schmidt:

Mm-hm.

Josh Bretl:

I miss Bruegger's Bagels.

Josh Bretl:

I remember Themba?

Josh Bretl:

First off, in high school, you took yourself

Josh Bretl:

too seriously, huh?

Josh Bretl:

That's a shock to me.

Dave Schmidt:

We're not going to go into what I mean by that.

Dave Schmidt:

But there were certain aspects of my life back then

Dave Schmidt:

I took way too seriously.

Dave Schmidt:

Yes.

Josh Bretl:

Huh.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

That's interesting.

Dave Schmidt:

Sure.

Josh Bretl:

So, Mr.

Josh Bretl:

Themba...

Josh Bretl:

Let me try and stretch this, wrap it around here.

Dave Schmidt:

Let's do it.

Josh Bretl:

You were compatible with him.

Josh Bretl:

You saw a leadership in him that you needed at that

Josh Bretl:

point in time in your life.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

You came off a very serious high school career.

Dave Schmidt:

Very.

Dave Schmidt:

Very.

Josh Bretl:

That, you needed somebody to lead you down

Josh Bretl:

a path to open yourself up to new experiences.

Josh Bretl:

Like roasted garlic.

Dave Schmidt:

Roasted garlic.

Josh Bretl:

And...

Dave Schmidt:

Dance parties.

Josh Bretl:

Themba, at that time, was able

Josh Bretl:

to do that for you.

Josh Bretl:

Now, you didn't really seek Themba out.

Josh Bretl:

He just found you?

Josh Bretl:

But what I'm telling retirees?

Josh Bretl:

Is seek it out.

Josh Bretl:

And know what you're looking for.

Josh Bretl:

You didn't know what you were looking for.

Josh Bretl:

And imagine if you said to yourself, "Man, I need someone

Josh Bretl:

to show me how to open myself up to fun new experiences."

Josh Bretl:

And you found Themba.

Josh Bretl:

And you're right there.

Josh Bretl:

What I'm telling people, who are retirees entering

Josh Bretl:

that distribution phase is, you should know

Josh Bretl:

what you're looking for.

Josh Bretl:

And go out and find it.

Josh Bretl:

Because Themba won't always be there, just waiting for you.

Dave Schmidt:

Yeah.

Dave Schmidt:

Okay.

Josh Bretl:

But I also love roasted garlic.

Josh Bretl:

If anybody wants to me to make some roasted garlic, I'd

Josh Bretl:

be happy to do that for you.

Dave Schmidt:

I am telling you.

Dave Schmidt:

Another go-to, Josh.

Dave Schmidt:

That was a nice Full House moment.

Dave Schmidt:

Not, I think again...

Dave Schmidt:

Having a fluffy episode plus a super random DR2R

Dave Schmidt:

leads you to having a shorter Full house moment.

Dave Schmidt:

Poppyseed bagel, butter, melted cheese.

Dave Schmidt:

You think, "Ugh."

Dave Schmidt:

Try it.

Dave Schmidt:

It's life changing.

Dave Schmidt:

All right?

Dave Schmidt:

That's another Themba specialty.

Josh Bretl:

Yeah.

Josh Bretl:

We need a bagel spot here at Elmhurst.

Dave Schmidt:

That's good.

Dave Schmidt:

I'm going to Google Themba.

Dave Schmidt:

See if he's still around.

Josh Bretl:

There's can't be many Themba Fakude.

Dave Schmidt:

Fakude.

Josh Bretl:

Fakude.

Dave Schmidt:

Cannot be.

Dave Schmidt:

That was my boy.

Dave Schmidt:

All right.

Dave Schmidt:

So, Josh, what else we got going on here?

Josh Bretl:

It's summertime.

Josh Bretl:

Literally, we shut this bad boy down?

Josh Bretl:

I'm out of here.

Dave Schmidt:

And summer gets crazy for everybody.

Dave Schmidt:

So, what Josh and I are going to encourage you

Dave Schmidt:

to do is head on over.

Dave Schmidt:

FSR wealth.com slash podcast.

Dave Schmidt:

Make sure your name is on our email club list, so

Dave Schmidt:

you never miss new episode.

Josh Bretl:

Because they're always as good as this one.

Dave Schmidt:

If not better.

Dave Schmidt:

And remember, we have our monthly Java with Josh.

Josh Bretl:

June 23rd,.

Dave Schmidt:

June 23rd.

Dave Schmidt:

Or whatever that...

Josh Bretl:

Mm, day is.

Josh Bretl:

Somewhere in there.

Dave Schmidt:

Wednesday is.

Dave Schmidt:

21st, 23rd.

Dave Schmidt:

Because we're going to start having some fun around here.

Josh Bretl:

We are.

Dave Schmidt:

We are.

Josh Bretl:

Thank you, Themba.

Dave Schmidt:

All right.

Dave Schmidt:

And we still haven't come up with a new close, so for now

Dave Schmidt:

we're just going to say, "Enjoy summer, enjoy your mangoes.

Dave Schmidt:

And...

Dave Schmidt:

Byeee.

Dave Schmidt:

Byeee.

Dave Schmidt:

That was a nice way to end it.
