I. “The Heraclitan Bird
Speaker:
00:00:39
Prepares For Death”
Speaker:
00:00:43
Denied by all, the black and cursèd bird
Speaker:
00:00:47
Encased within the pang of pain and grieving,
Speaker:
00:00:50
And painted with a crest
Speaker:
00:00:51
that sang deceiving,
Speaker:
00:00:53
Defied the world --
Speaker:
00:00:54
corrupting all they heard.
Speaker:
00:00:57
By savage river hid from land absurd,
Speaker:
00:01:00
It made its rest in thorny nest believing
Speaker:
00:01:03
Rewards of love were never its achieving;
Speaker:
00:01:06
Deservèd of the judgement for its word.
Speaker:
00:01:11
To wander on in aimless wingèd travels --
Speaker:
00:01:14
How suffering had made its spirit fled,
Speaker:
00:01:17
Exiled, in crisis cries its frame unfed;
Speaker:
00:01:22
Exhausted still, its little will unravels --
Speaker:
00:01:25
Near setting sun, its world undone in red;
Speaker:
00:01:28
Defiled, the thirsting flame engulfs the dead.
Speaker:
00:01:34
II. “Resurrection
Speaker:
00:01:37
Of The Heraclitan Bird”
Speaker:
00:01:40
Return to earth, that brought your birth, in ash:
Speaker:
00:01:43
Inside your hell, and raised unwell,
Speaker:
00:01:46
your singing Sounds silent now -- at last these notes quit ringing --
Speaker:
00:01:50
Ensnared, your toil within the soil would clash.
Speaker:
00:01:54
But many beasts were phased by such a lash;
Speaker:
00:01:57
Instead the spirits mourn, as fountain springing --
Speaker:
00:02:00
Resolve to live,
Speaker:
00:02:01
and leave your sorrow -- clinging,
Speaker:
00:02:03
Despaired the beasts --
Speaker:
00:02:04
so torn at brethren’s crash.
Speaker:
00:02:07
For as they spoke
Speaker:
00:02:08
that futile seeming prayer --
Speaker:
00:02:10
Like alchemy allows the metal turn --
Speaker:
00:02:12
You thus awoke with joyous croak! The urn Now breaks in hopeful flight --
Speaker:
00:02:17
you take to air -- O’er world of bliss,
Speaker:
00:02:20
without the worlds that burn,
Speaker:
00:02:22
When fresh, with kiss to heaven,
Speaker:
00:02:25
you return. This was
