Speaker:

Hi, this is Dr. Francis Malone, founder of the intuitive parents

Speaker:

collective. I've been working with children and their families

Speaker:

to provide holistic relationship based medical care throughout my

Speaker:

career. This podcast is for parents interested in

Speaker:

consciously raising naturally Healthy Kids. Here we will dive

Speaker:

into topics that spanned childhood, and parenting as well

Speaker:

as hosting exciting guests. So whenever you find yourself at

Speaker:

the end of your parody rope, tune into the intuitive parents

Speaker:

podcast to get a new ideas about making parenting fun.

Speaker:

I love that you're not only are you a pioneer in the field of

Speaker:

integrative pediatric medicine, but you're also the mother to

Speaker:

three boys. Can you tell me a little bit about some of your

Speaker:

own parenting battles? And and what you have done to overcome

Speaker:

them? Or? Or to live through that?

Speaker:

Oh, goodness. Well, do you want to hear about mom putting

Speaker:

herself in a timeout in the bathroom with three little boys

Speaker:

leaning on the outside of the bathroom door, saying Mommy,

Speaker:

Mommy, mommy and me just say Mommy needs a timeout. And I'm

Speaker:

okay. I'm right here. It's all gonna be all right. So, yes,

Speaker:

I'm a fan of the bathroom timeout. I take parents all the

Speaker:

time.

Speaker:

Yes, absolutely, um, I, my boys have really helped me to see one

Speaker:

of the biggest tenants, I think of my practice, which is that

Speaker:

our children, actually are our wise mentors and our mirrors.

Speaker:

And we get the chance to learn about ourselves, through our

Speaker:

children, through their responses to us through our

Speaker:

responses with them. And that communication that starts in

Speaker:

infancy and continues throughout their lives, is a place that is

Speaker:

completely under recognized in our, I believe our cultural

Speaker:

system, that my first son, Sloan, had a really rocky

Speaker:

infancy. And I now know that that in part was my child, as

Speaker:

well as who his mother was, at that time, and all the ways that

Speaker:

I was stressed out and anxious about how to provide the best

Speaker:

care for my child actually reverberated in my guy. And I've

Speaker:

just learned so much from my children, and I continue to do

Speaker:

that they are now 2019, and almost 17 years old. And every

Speaker:

day they teach me new things about myself, and about how to

Speaker:

respect them and how to support and honor them as well. And

Speaker:

yeah, specific battles. Good Lord, that is might be a very

Speaker:

long road, if you want me to go through some of those. One of

Speaker:

the things that I'm learning still is that there are parts of

Speaker:

different types of parenting theories or approaches that are

Speaker:

useful. And the way I go about it is that there are pieces that

Speaker:

can be gleaned from all the different types of parenting

Speaker:

techniques. But one of the ones that I continue to have to learn

Speaker:

over and over again, and I have practiced it, at periods of life

Speaker:

for my one year old, my two year olds, my three year olds, my

Speaker:

seven year olds, my 12 year old, and now again, my teen boys, is

Speaker:

a little tiny bit of positive parenting in the sense that

Speaker:

remembering that my child, or my partner, or my friends, actually

Speaker:

everyone likes to hear the things that I enjoy or the

Speaker:

things that I like that they either do or that affect me. And

Speaker:

when I stay quiet, or I don't let them know that, and I only

Speaker:

let them know the things that I don't like that that sets up

Speaker:

this place of reinforcement for negative behaviors when really,

Speaker:

they want to hear the things that I enjoy about them or the

Speaker:

things that are helped me to sleep well at night when you

Speaker:

come in and you're quiet in the middle of the night, or all the

Speaker:

different things that one might be telling a teenager are also

Speaker:

things that I told them when they were two and seven is like,

Speaker:

oh, Mommy loves you, when you give me a big hug like that just

Speaker:

makes my body see inside. Those are aspects of positive

Speaker:

parenting. And sometimes that specific type of parenting model

Speaker:

gets this negative rap for creating people who only want to

Speaker:

and can only respond to positivity as a way of life. But

Speaker:

I think that there is a place for that in all of our lives.

Speaker:

And when I get into a place of just focusing on the negative

Speaker:

things that my people in my world bring forward, it also

Speaker:

brings my personal vibration down, it also brings the

Speaker:

communication between myself and my people down. And I'm also not

Speaker:

giving them the insight into what I love about them being

Speaker:

part of my day. So that is a skill that I I talk about to

Speaker:

parents all the time, and is one that I actively practice still.

Speaker:

So it's a learning curve. And as people change and grow, we all

Speaker:

need to reincorporate that kind of thing back into our lives.

Speaker:
