Hey, beautiful women. This is Dawn Damon, the brave heart mentor and you're listening to the brave hearted woman. This is a podcast designed to help you find your brave so you can live out your beautiful vision. I have been working with women for years. And now I want to help you too. I'm here to awaken the brave heart inside of you. So you can ignite the flame of your vision, you can reach your goals and achieve your dreams. Come on this good phrase.
Hey there Braveheart, women and welcome to the brave hearted woman. I'm so glad that you're joining me again today. You look amazing. I can't wait to share with you today I want to talk to you today about that very thing. Living brave living with courage. I'm going to give you four traits of the courageous. But first of all, let's take a look at that word courage. Courage originally comes from the Latin word, core CLR, which literally means heart. So living with courage is living with all of your heart. And that's why we talk about being brave hearted. It's living out your dreams, in spite of the presence of doubt, in spite of the presence of fear. It's willing to risk failure in order to be true to yourself, and to be the authentic person you were created to be. So I don't know if you've heard about author, Pierce Anthony. But he says this about courage and I like it. Courage, being terrified, but going ahead and doing what must be done. That's courage. The one who feels no fear is a fool. And the one who lets fear rule him is a coward. So though we don't want to be a coward, we don't want to be ruled by fear. But we don't want to have a lack of wisdom either. So many people have the habit of focusing on the negative side of any challenge. Instead of seeing the opportunity, they start an inner dialogue telling themselves all the reasons why this isn't going to work. Now, you'd never done that before, have you? courage is not just an emotion that comes to a select few. We can all choose courage, despite the feelings of fear and timidity. We just got to make that shift. And so instead of focusing on that dialogue, the brave say, No, I'm going to think about something else, the fearful, they focus on what's going to go wrong, what they stand to lose. And it's no wonder many times we're paralyzed from taking action to live out our dream. But when we shift when we say no, I'm not going to be that I want to live my brave, I want to live courageous, we change our perspective from what we stand to lose to what we stand to gain. So the shift is that we focus on the outcome and the reward. And so courage then rises up within us. We The result is that when I think right, I feel right. And when I meditate on the right things, courage is a byproduct of that. So the courageous choice is made easier when we tell ourselves the right story, right. So a pursuit of bravery and courage is the one who says I don't want to lose out on life's opportunities, because I'm afraid. I don't want to be limited and I don't want to live contained. Rather I can I want to be an overcomer I want to live bold, I want to live courageous. I want to develop the skill of facing my fear and experiencing the thrill of being triumphant. Not trumped. Right. So what makes the dawn come up like thunder, courage, that's what the Cowardly Lion said, Do you remember that in The Wizard of Oz, what makes the dawn come up like thunder, courage. I like that phrase, obviously, because it has my name in it. So I believe that God wants us to be courageous. I believe that you want to be courageous, I want I believe that you want to live from your whole heart. And you know, it's not gonna be comfortable at first. But as we choose to confront the thing that we're afraid of, we'll discover that we can stand as a champion over it. So I want to give you a few pointers I want to give you four ways to live courageous. Okay, first of all, number one, name your fear. It's all right to say I have some fear about this admitted acknowledge it and that's okay. Ask yourself, but what specifically am I afraid of? So be precise in defining the fear that you struggle with because So oftentimes, I have found this to be so true in my life that when I evaluate that fear, and when I name it, it becomes contained. Instead of being this overall over pervasive, all consuming fear, it becomes contained, it becomes identified, it has parameters and boundaries now, and we discover that the thing that we dread, it really does have limits. I like what Mark Twain says. He says, it's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog, love it. Number two, act, even when you're afraid, you know, we need to go forward, The Hobbit, he says this, remember from the j. r r Tolkien, The Hobbit,
here's a quote, go back, he thought, No, not good at all. go sideways, impossible, go forward, the only thing to do so on we go. So he got up and he trotted along with his little sword held in front of him on one hand, feeling the wall and his heart all a pitter patter. So go forward, we're going to act even when we feel afraid, none of us can be totally free from the emotion of fear. It's just not how it works. In fact, it's part of the way we were created, our brain is designed to let us know when there's danger, it sends those signals fight or flight, it comes to all of us. It comes to us flying over our heads like a bird in flight. But we do get to choose if we're going to let that bird build a nest in our head and peck away at our brains. So I say no to that feelings of fear. Well, that's part of the human experience. And sometimes they do serve a good purpose for sure. But don't wait to take steps of action until you feel no fear at all. Or no reluctancy. Don't, don't avoid or don't ignore intuition of checks in your heart or your mind, like if you feel a foreboding or a sense that says, No, I shouldn't. You do need to pay attention to that. But if it's just random garden variety fear that comes to us that says, oh, what if I fail? What if I don't do well? No, we don't. We don't listen to that we don't succumb to fear. We take the next right step. And if it's not something that we're supposed to do, we're going to feel it. The third thing I would recommend is that you do focus on the win. You know, today I had a phone call with a young woman who had something to face today. And here we are a few years up few years, few hours later, and she's been through it and overcome it. But before she she had some surgery before she went into it today, I said let's get a picture of you. After surgery, feeling great. feeling healthy, running the wind in your hair, your whatever it is that you love to do, you're empowered. You're a force to be reckoned with. You've got a huge smile on your face. You're enjoying life. Sun is shining down on you. Can you picture it? Can you feel it, too? Like Yes, I see it, I feel it. Okay, so she faced the fear went through it. And now she's on the other side of it. Focus on the when Lord Chesterfield said man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore. So let me ask you that, how would the quality of your life improve? If you faced each day with courage? What would you accomplish? What is your desired destination? What do you want to achieve? So define the win and focus on what you will gain, not on what you will lose and then just show up. Courage comes as we straight up, make the right choice. Make small steps compounded over time, that results in real success. Sometimes all you can do is show up. Don't think about it, just do it. Often we overthink a problem and it elevates our uneasiness. instead. Don't overthink it. Don't try to solve everything or consider every obstacle that you possibly could face. Instead, just take a step forward, show up and the rest will unfold. So I like what Marianne rad maker says courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, I'll try again tomorrow. So remember, courage determines the parameters of your life. How big do you want to live? How big? So I like this scripture in the Bible. It's in a book called Joshua in the Old Testament. And it's God speaking to this fearful man. And he says, haven't I commanded you? courage? Be strong? Don't be timid. Don't get discouraged. God, your God, I'm with you every step you take. I like that, that works for me. So that's what I have for you today, four steps to be courageous. I hope this helps you, and hope that you'll take those steps in finding courage. Will you? Do you often feel afraid? Do you get paralyzed? because everything's not perfect? Do you get stalled because you're overwhelmed with the fear of failure?
Do you wonder if you fail if you'll still be loved, or feel embarrass yourself or people that you love or others that you work with or work for a while I encourage you to live brave, not haphazardly. But brave? Yes, you can plan your steps. You can be methodical, you can look at it, you can weigh it, you can make sure there's wisdom in your plan. But at the end of the day, you got to take courageous action. So I pray that you will, I hope that you will. I'm calling all brave hearted women to make that courageous change in your life, to take that step of faith to take a leap. someone standing on the edge said, Oh, but what if I fall? Well, what if you soar? What if you fly, so I'm gonna do it. I'm living my brave, I'm taking courageous action. And if I can do it, you can do it. We can look in the mirror every day and say you are a bad woman. Not that bad. in a negative sense, but like as in you got this going on, girl. You got this, you can do it. So I encourage you to do the same. All right, brave hearted women. That's it. I hope that you will uncover your vision, and live your brave every day.
