Shownotes

Someone can copy the idea, study the formula, or try to steal the sauce, but similar still doesn’t mean the same. In Episode 611, we talk about embracing what makes you unique, focusing less on external competition, and asking a harder question: what are you doing that may be getting in the way of the success and abundance you deserve?

We also reflect on the wonderful changes happening as the podcast approaches Year 10, plus new opportunities to work with me through speaking and other offers.

Your lane still has room for you. Go get what’s yours!

Transcripts

Speaker A:

Hey, y'.

Speaker A:

All.

Speaker A:

You were listening to another episode of the Spiritual Homegirl podcast where we better self in spirit and make peace with the day through wisdom, education, and practical, easy to follow tips.

Speaker A:

I am your host, Maria, your spiritual homegirl, who's also a mental health professional.

Speaker A:

And today I want to give some encouragement to those who might be feeling like there's a lot of crowdedness in the things that they want to do in life, whether it's personal hobbies, whether it's professional or entrepreneurial aspirations.

Speaker A:

As your homegirl who loves you and wants to see you win, I want to remind that similar doesn't always equal same.

Speaker A:

Sometimes there are people that I talk to that are in similar fields or they are in a field where there's a lot of supposed competition.

Speaker A:

And the reason why I say supposedly competition is because a lot of times we are taught to look at people as comp.

Speaker A:

And not as people who are people that we could learn from or collaborate with or just good people that are just doing their thing.

Speaker A:

They have nothing to do with us.

Speaker A:

Sometimes we make villains in our.

Speaker A:

In our stories.

Speaker A:

And I always say we because I'm never above what I say.

Speaker A:

Of course, as y' all know, but sometimes we have to have a adversary in order to feel motivated to do things and to be successful.

Speaker A:

But what if I told you that that adversary that really matters the most is the one within yourself?

Speaker A:

Your greatest competition is going to be your.

Speaker A:

You.

Speaker A:

Somebody could be doing a bunch of stuff and they could be successful or moderately successful or super successful, but that really has nothing to do with you.

Speaker A:

Unless, of course, it's a caveat, unless they're trying to steal your whole sauce.

Speaker A:

And even then, similarities, they're not cool when it comes from dishonest places like biting and copying and things like that.

Speaker A:

But it's never going to be the same.

Speaker A:

The same way you could give somebody the sauce and it still might not ever taste the same as yours because you have something special and unique about yourself to where no matter how many times people think they can replicate it, it'll never be as good as yours.

Speaker A:

And I want you to remember that.

Speaker A:

I also want you to remember that.

Speaker A:

Again, going back to the adversary within yourself.

Speaker A:

Embrace your uniqueness.

Speaker A:

Everybody on this earth is special.

Speaker A:

And special means they're talented in their own way, they're gifted in their own way.

Speaker A:

Whether we see it or not, we all have something awesome to add to this world positively.

Speaker A:

So hone in on what you got going on and stop worrying about what everybody else is doing.

Speaker A:

Are there people that we could probably work alongside?

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Are there people that probably don't want us to succeed?

Speaker A:

Potentially?

Speaker A:

Are there people that can smile on our face and act like they're happy for us but really don't want us to win?

Speaker A:

Or see, secretly wish something negative could happen?

Speaker A:

Potentially.

Speaker A:

But why do we worry about that?

Speaker A:

And we've all been guilty of that, myself included.

Speaker A:

But at some point we have to stop worrying about other people.

Speaker A:

Yeah, somebody might do something, but until they come to you directly, who cares?

Speaker A:

Live your life.

Speaker A:

Get your peace, get your joy, get your success, get your abundance.

Speaker A:

Defeat the competition within.

Speaker A:

Defeat the lack of discipline.

Speaker A:

Compete against the lack mindset that you might have.

Speaker A:

Knock that down, destroy that, reframe it, rebuild it.

Speaker A:

What are we reprogramming our mind to be that's going to help us?

Speaker A:

How can we actually utilize others in a way where we don't automatically have to have hate as fuel all the time?

Speaker A:

Now, don't get it twisted.

Speaker A:

I love transmutation.

Speaker A:

I love it.

Speaker A:

That's one of my greatest superpowers.

Speaker A:

I can transmute the finest of chaos and whatever and make it work in my favor, but I don't go seeking it out to be motivated.

Speaker A:

And that is the difference.

Speaker A:

Now, again, like I said, people need that, okay?

Speaker A:

But it would probably better suit us to look at ourselves too, because we're not all perfect and we all could use a little bit of fine tuning in different areas of how we operate and how we show up, whether it is personally or professionally.

Speaker A:

So again, I'm employing you just to look at what you got going on before you look to the next person and worry about what they doing, and especially worrying about what they're doing with you.

Speaker A:

If they're not copying you, they're not copying your intellectual property, then don't mind them.

Speaker A:

And if they are, shut them all the way down.

Speaker A:

Y' all know I love me a good IP shutdown.

Speaker A:

Shut them down, get their pages next, do whatever you got to do.

Speaker A:

But if that's not happening, let's self examine.

Speaker A:

What do I do that gets in the way of what I want to be or who I want to be or what I want to do?

Speaker A:

What type of issues with being consistent do I have?

Speaker A:

What people do I have around me that actually don't champion me the way I need?

Speaker A:

And when I say champion, I'm not saying always saying yes to what you got going on, because that's a yes person.

Speaker A:

And we don't like those.

Speaker A:

Because sometimes yes people don't keep it real with us like we need them to.

Speaker A:

But people that are good for your soul and good for where you're going in life, that will always speak life into you and also catch you when you tripping so that you can get back grounded and get back to who you want to be.

Speaker A:

Who's your village?

Speaker A:

Are these village folks healthy for you?

Speaker A:

Do you need to make adjustments?

Speaker A:

How are you fueling your body?

Speaker A:

What do you put in your body?

Speaker A:

Are you powered on foods that aren't the healthiest for you?

Speaker A:

Are there ways that you could maybe fit other things into your budget or swap things out so that we're fueling ourselves with good foods or foods that can actually help our brain and feel good, mind, body and spirit?

Speaker A:

Are we sleeping enough?

Speaker A:

How's our sleep schedule?

Speaker A:

What sleep schedule are we on?

Speaker A:

Do we need to make some adjustments?

Speaker A:

Because sometimes we don't make the best decisions and don't have the clearest of minds because we don't have enough sleep.

Speaker A:

These things sound very simple, but they're not.

Speaker A:

Believe it or not, there's a lot of us that running on fumes and burnout is only around the corner when you're on fumes.

Speaker A:

Think about it like a car.

Speaker A:

When you have a thing of gas, a tank of gas that's full, you're like, yeah, all right, I got X amount of miles until I'm empty.

Speaker A:

Now we're on half a tank.

Speaker A:

You could go to the gas station, but you don't go so much.

Speaker A:

You're like, I could probably drive another hour, two hours.

Speaker A:

Next thing you know, you're on quarter tank.

Speaker A:

You're like, I'll stop at some point.

Speaker A:

Now you're on the light.

Speaker A:

The light is telling you, baby, get some gas, or else we're going to be done here.

Speaker A:

After that, you're 30 miles or 20 miles, 10 miles, 5 miles, 0 miles.

Speaker A:

Now you are on fumes.

Speaker A:

Whatever is left in that little gas tank is.

Speaker A:

And I say little because that's really a little amount you.

Speaker A:

You getting by.

Speaker A:

And at some point the car is going to stop.

Speaker A:

So we have to look at how do we fuel what we got going on, and also who's in the car with us.

Speaker A:

It's very important.

Speaker A:

Before we start looking at what lane everybody else in, let's just focus on what we got going on.

Speaker A:

And again, like I said, there's nothing wrong with transmuting the negativity you get, but it's a difference with seeking it out.

Speaker A:

And so I'm going to always maintain that.

Speaker A:

Please don't seek that out.

Speaker A:

Remember that you're special.

Speaker A:

Remember that you're unique.

Speaker A:

Remember that you're talented and gifted in your own way.

Speaker A:

And that sometimes the biggest competition, most times I would say that we don't like to admit is ourselves and we have things within ourselves that we need fixing before we start looking and pointing fingers at everybody else.

Speaker A:

Who cares what they got going on, do you?

Speaker A:

If I spent my time worrying about all the other homegirls that popped up or worrying about other spiritual or self development or mental health podcasts or platforms that were coming out, I would never have gotten to 10 years.

Speaker A:

I would have never gotten to 600 episodes.

Speaker A:

I would have never been able to go back to school.

Speaker A:

I would have never been able to do a cross country move twice.

Speaker A:

I would have never been able to impact as many people as I have.

Speaker A:

And I never.

Speaker A:

I would not have been able to grow the way I wanted to grow and be so much better.

Speaker A:

ted, better than who I was in:

Speaker A:

Like I'm in such a better place.

Speaker A:

Growth, focusing on growth has helped me so much in destroying the competition within has been more beneficial than worrying about anybody else that has some type of motion or trying to get some motion for themselves.

Speaker A:

So stick to your emotion and keep on.

Speaker A:

Homegirl got your back, but keep going.

Speaker A:

Sometimes we need a little bit of encouragement because it's easy to get caught up in other people, especially when you live in a society that likes to compare.

Speaker A:

We get very individualistic on the West.

Speaker A:

It's always about, you know, me and not a we.

Speaker A:

And in this case focusing on the me to better show up for the we could actually be beneficial versus just me, me, me, me.

Speaker A:

And I'm not worried about y' all and y' all this and y' all ain't as dope as me and y' all in it.

Speaker A:

Like, let's cut all that noise.

Speaker A:

So again, don't forget what makes you special and keep riding with that.

Speaker A:

So that's all I wanted to put on you all's heart this week.

We are celebrating 10 years of homegirl spiritual homegirl podcast on September 15th.

Speaker A:

I'm slowly going to be making changes for the next year.

Speaker A:

It's not going to be some super duper oh, I'm doing this big ten year.

Speaker A:

No, it's not like Homegirl Week where I did a week of free programming.

Speaker A:

And that was dope too.

Speaker A:

If you missed out, man, it was amazing.

Speaker A:

But I did a bunch of free programming for that week during my fifth year.

Speaker A:

But I want to spend year number 10 just slowly making some very big changes and you will see what I mean sooner than later.

Speaker A:

But I'm looking forward to doing some things behind the scenes.

Speaker A:

Also, shout out to the trainings and the things that I've done for other people, those that allowed me to do trains for other people.

Speaker A:

I'm really excited to continue doing those.

Speaker A:
