Transcripts

Speaker:

Howdy.

Speaker:

It's the Southern Sin Pie Show.

Speaker:

We're small town southerners.

Speaker:

Explore big time Japanese entertainment, anime, manga, and everything in between.

Speaker:

Here's your hosts, Nicholas and dj.

Speaker:

What's going on y'all?

Speaker:

This is Nicholas.

Speaker:

I'm dj and we're two southern guys exploring Japanese culture together.

Speaker:

What are we talking about today, dj?

Speaker:

Today we're talking about cyberpunk edge runners.

Speaker:

Cyberpunk Edge runners.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

You had recommended this anime?

Speaker:

Somebody dmd us and I said, oh, okay.

Speaker:

After they DMed us, I was like, oh, maybe we should check this one out.

Speaker:

It came out last year.

Speaker:

I didn't get a chance to see it when it came out.

Speaker:

So this was like a good excuse to to watch it.

Speaker:

To watch it.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

It's on Netflix if you haven't seen it.

Speaker:

And I thought it was I thought it was pretty good.

Speaker:

What do we, it's very interesting to see First of all, studio Trigger.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Makes a lot of really great stuff.

Speaker:

Makes it incredible amount of stuff.

Speaker:

Yeah, I think that's what's really interesting about this one is

Speaker:

that it's based off a video game.

Speaker:

I haven't really seen a lot of animes based solely from a video game.

Speaker:

There's no manga or anything, no, I, whenever you had recommended this to

Speaker:

me I remember the video game and I remember like the big thing it wasn't

Speaker:

me, it was the person who DMed us.

Speaker:

And I was like, oh, we should do this.

Speaker:

But and I remember Keanu Reeves was part of yeah, cyberpunk the cyber.

Speaker:

But didn't it take a decade or eight years to come out?

Speaker:

It took, yeah, it took forever.

Speaker:

There's a whole bunch of production snags and then on top of that it was like when

Speaker:

it came out it was like super buggy.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

But anyway when I started watching the anime, I was like, I think the anime's a

Speaker:

is a prelude to the video game, actually.

Speaker:

I was very surprised by how great this anime was.

Speaker:

Oh my God.

Speaker:

Incredibly surprised.

Speaker:

Oh my God, it's awesome.

Speaker:

And I remember going to work and being like, I'm in cyberpunk.

Speaker:

Why?

Speaker:

Why?

Speaker:

Because it's this is, The guy, the guys like going to work and, basically going

Speaker:

to work, coming home going to school.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Trying to avoid things.

Speaker:

Trying not to, trying to avoid the bullshit of the world.

Speaker:

And people, just like anybody else, people shitting on 'em,

Speaker:

people, this, that and the other.

Speaker:

Yeah the SAR punk world was very interesting 'cause I, I didn't

Speaker:

get a chance to, I didn't play the video game because when it came out,

Speaker:

everyone said it sucked as, and then I, yeah, that's why I didn't play it.

Speaker:

Yeah I didn't play it.

Speaker:

But then But, and came out, I was like, oh, cool, whatever.

Speaker:

But that's all stupid trigger was attached to it.

Speaker:

I wanted to see it.

Speaker:

I didn't get to check it out until recently and when I was watching it, I

Speaker:

was surprised about the production value.

Speaker:

The story was really good.

Speaker:

Spoiler alert, for anyone watching, we are gonna talk about the things

Speaker:

that happened in the anime, right?

Speaker:

So it's an anime review.

Speaker:

You should know this.

Speaker:

You should know that we're gonna talk about what happens in it to review it.

Speaker:

How do you review something without spoiling it?

Speaker:

Yeah, I have I have no idea.

Speaker:

So I think one of the things that was the most interesting was like how they

Speaker:

develop the world, so they're already building off of an ip, but it feels

Speaker:

like it's different because since the, I, since this I've seen the anime, I.

Speaker:

I have gone back and taken a look at the actual video game, and it seems

Speaker:

completely, it seems different, like a lot of the things, it's like there's

Speaker:

still, you still have people who that suffer from cyber psychosis, so they

Speaker:

go like crazy and stuff like that.

Speaker:

And then you still have some of the same elements, but it feels like more in depth.

Speaker:

It seems to have taken some inspiration from Star Wars as

Speaker:

far as the building of the city.

Speaker:

You think so?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And a an attack of the clones, You see there?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

It was like a space city.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

You see they look the same.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Knight City is is, I'm not gonna say it's a direct comparison, but they're, I

Speaker:

could definitely see some similarities.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Same thing with if you looked at Samurai Jack and, you could also say that's

Speaker:

how futuristic cities are, shown.

Speaker:

But yeah, those are the two that I was like, oh, he is, it looks, it's

Speaker:

a futuristic cyber looking city.

Speaker:

One of my favorite parts about the city was like, the place where he lived,

Speaker:

it was just so fucking disgusting.

Speaker:

Yeah, it was nasty.

Speaker:

They have and honestly, I, I see there's a lot of parallels between now and

Speaker:

what happens in the, in their world.

Speaker:

I can totally see landlords being like, oh, you didn't play rent.

Speaker:

Sorry, you can't come inside.

Speaker:

And he's like busting through the sides.

Speaker:

Shoot, be like to get in.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Especially now with the economy and the way everything is, you have a mom

Speaker:

that's basically never there because she's like busting her ass too, to

Speaker:

keep him in this private school.

Speaker:

The main character, so the main character's name is is David Martinez.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

David Martinez.

Speaker:

A lot of you can tell when the production has a lot of international people in

Speaker:

it working on it because the characters will obviously often be more diverse.

Speaker:

Not that to be fair, a lot of anime characters seem just

Speaker:

like white people, right?

Speaker:

This, I think they're supposed to be Japanese, but they're

Speaker:

not really drawn that way.

Speaker:

They have these larger eyes and Yeah.

Speaker:

Stuff like that.

Speaker:

Plus the haircut's pretty sick.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

He's, he is pretty cool hair guy.

Speaker:

His hairdo is pretty I don't see a lot, a whole lot of Japanese

Speaker:

cartoons anime where the hair is.

Speaker:

Like that?

Speaker:

I think.

Speaker:

I think You think it's because he's Hispanic or you think

Speaker:

it's 'cause of the cyber world?

Speaker:

I think it's a bit, it's, I think it's a binks of both.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Yeah, but I I have to say though that I really liked whenever he

Speaker:

beat the shit out of that kid.

Speaker:

Which one?

Speaker:

You got more specific?

Speaker:

The first kid.

Speaker:

Oh, the first one.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So basically that gets him kicked out.

Speaker:

He it starts off where, it's classic anime stuff.

Speaker:

His life sucks.

Speaker:

I think that's just like basic storytelling at this point, right?

Speaker:

If your life doesn't suck.

Speaker:

Sorry, I can't, like this protagonist, right?

Speaker:

Sorry.

Speaker:

Your life has to suck.

Speaker:

I gotta see the struggle, right?

Speaker:

So his life sucks.

Speaker:

He's super poor and his mom works her ass off to.

Speaker:

Make sure they have anything at all.

Speaker:

She does all these shifts and it's still not enough.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And it's still not enough.

Speaker:

And 'cause he goes to the doc and he is Hey, I need to upgrade.

Speaker:

And then he goes to school and it just, yeah.

Speaker:

He upgrades his like, like learning gear.

Speaker:

Because he tries to do it illegally because to actually

Speaker:

pay for it would cost too much.

Speaker:

And his mom's just oh, you should pay for it, da.

Speaker:

He goes, we can't even wash our clothes.

Speaker:

We can't even afford to get our clothes washed.

Speaker:

And you expect me to do that.

Speaker:

No.

Speaker:

So then, It kinda wrecks the whole system, right?

Speaker:

Yeah, the whole system.

Speaker:

He wrecks the whole school system and then, then his mom has to pay for it.

Speaker:

Which is also something they can't afford.

Speaker:

So then she's he's oh, maybe she drive him home, scold him calling an idiot.

Speaker:

Like he's he obviously is, and he's maybe I shouldn't go to school.

Speaker:

Maybe it's just help go to work and pick up.

Speaker:

Maybe I should try and find a job.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

To help out.

Speaker:

Which is admirable.

Speaker:

And then this car accident happens, right?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So some gang, they're not trying to shoot their car, but their car is,

Speaker:

it's in the middle of them trying to shoot it just collateral damage, right?

Speaker:

They end up being collateral damage and the car flips over.

Speaker:

He gets stuck in the car.

Speaker:

And then the ambulance shows up, right?

Speaker:

'cause his mom is outside the car.

Speaker:

The ambulance shows up, but they go, oh, sorry, she doesn't have good insurance.

Speaker:

Just leave her to die.

Speaker:

Just leave it to die, which is, I can totally see that happening, which is

Speaker:

basically a really good allegory for our healthcare system here, which is if you

Speaker:

don't have healthcare sy, if you don't have insurance or anything like that, like

Speaker:

just a while ago I was trying to go get my Go see a doctor or something like that.

Speaker:

And at first I didn't have the health insurance 'cause of a

Speaker:

lapse or something like that.

Speaker:

And they were like, sometimes it has those gaps in between

Speaker:

when you renew it or something.

Speaker:

And so they didn't want to see me.

Speaker:

They were like, we don't accept anything.

Speaker:

You're just gonna have to basically screw off.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And you're like, I have insurance.

Speaker:

It's just It's like I'm in like a gap.

Speaker:

I already paid it.

Speaker:

And then I came, I went back and had the insurance and had to pay

Speaker:

like $15 or something like that.

Speaker:

They're like, yeah, of course.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Go ahead.

Speaker:

Go ahead.

Speaker:

I, oh, they're super nice when have money.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So when he later on, when David decides to do like, All this crazy stuff for money.

Speaker:

You totally get it.

Speaker:

Money.

Speaker:

Him not having money has not only killed his mom.

Speaker:

I mean at first they're like, oh she's undergoing surgery, in, in

Speaker:

some back water place because that's the only place they can afford.

Speaker:

And then she ends up dying because he can't afford the,

Speaker:

to keep her alive for too long.

Speaker:

And then they give them, they give 'em this to earn canister,

Speaker:

to be like, here you go.

Speaker:

Here's your mom.

Speaker:

Yeah, here's your mom.

Speaker:

Dude, they already cremated her and everything.

Speaker:

Oh, here you go.

Speaker:

You have to pay us for this.

Speaker:

Can that your mom is congratulations.

Speaker:

And it's it's actually really sad.

Speaker:

That's super sad.

Speaker:

That's there was a story a while back where the city, I forget where it was, but

Speaker:

the city bulldozed this person's house.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And then the guy was like, yo, what's going on?

Speaker:

And then the city tried to charge him for bulldozing his own house.

Speaker:

They bulldozed it by accident and they tried to make it seem

Speaker:

like he wanted that to happen.

Speaker:

For some reason.

Speaker:

But anyway, so the guy's just sitting there just, oh, also he gets made fun

Speaker:

of at bullied at school by the other, so he's the only poor kid there.

Speaker:

His mom pays all this money for him to go there was part

Speaker:

of the reason why they're poor.

Speaker:

And all the rich kids can afford to go there.

Speaker:

So they all have these cybertron upgrades.

Speaker:

And one of 'em beats the crap out of 'em with these cybertron upgrades and

Speaker:

all just These are like your typical bullies that just want you to leave.

Speaker:

Basically just 'cause he's poor and yeah.

Speaker:

He tries to sell this like spine upgrade that can make you move really fast and it

Speaker:

doesn't work at first, but then after his mom dies, he's I just have to chrome up.

Speaker:

The thing is that he sits there and talks to the doc and the doc's

Speaker:

oh, okay he wants to offer him like eight to $10,000 for the.

Speaker:

For the Chrome upgrade.

Speaker:

And he's this is premium tech.

Speaker:

You're gonna gimme more than that.

Speaker:

And then his mom dies.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

His military grade.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And his mom dies and the doc's ah, I'll give you like $6,000.

Speaker:

He's you are gonna gimme 10 a couple days ago.

Speaker:

And then he's just you know what?

Speaker:

Screw it.

Speaker:

Just, he like, he basically gives up on his former life, which is you know what?

Speaker:

I'm just gonna get revenge on the guy who also the bully after the bully finds

Speaker:

out that his mom dies, he calls him and then laughs about how his mom is dead.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

First of all, I guess you can't refuse at calls in the future.

Speaker:

Why did you just, why did you pick up in the first place?

Speaker:

Yeah why would you pick up, why would you pick up that call?

Speaker:

It doesn't make any sense.

Speaker:

And then the principal sees him beat up.

Speaker:

So he gets the Chrome installment and he goes to school just to

Speaker:

beat up that kid, which he does.

Speaker:

Who bullied him and then instead of being like, he gets expelled, but then

Speaker:

when they show it to the kid's parents, they're like, oh, we could use him for a

Speaker:

secret experiment to, to, put him in this put him in this, super powerful suit.

Speaker:

'cause he, because he seems, he he's resistant to Cyberonics.

Speaker:

So in this world, if you have too many cyber Tronics,

Speaker:

You go into cyber psychosis.

Speaker:

Cyber psychosis, where basically you go insane.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And it seems like he might be resistant to it, but then he's on the

Speaker:

train and that's when he meets Lucy.

Speaker:

And then so basically he, and he meets this super hot chick, right?

Speaker:

And finds out, he's like a natural at it, and they go back to the hideout.

Speaker:

He's like stealing like stuff out of people's necks, which

Speaker:

is weird which is really weird.

Speaker:

They like, in, in the future, they're inserting like chips into

Speaker:

the next Elon Musk has already got the Neuralink installed.

Speaker:

I if you had to get something plugged into your neck, what would be the power.

Speaker:

I don't even know what it's for.

Speaker:

Like they just have shit just in their necks.

Speaker:

Is it, does it help you think, does it.

Speaker:

They'd never say what it is.

Speaker:

All you know is worth the money.

Speaker:

It's ambiguous.

Speaker:

They just, oh, I got his net chips.

Speaker:

I did it.

Speaker:

This, I got money.

Speaker:

And the money is called Eddie's, right?

Speaker:

They're called Eddie's, which kind of sounds like pills, right?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Or I thought of ed net.

Speaker:

So why just Eddie's Ed?

Speaker:

Ed Netty?

Speaker:

I know.

Speaker:

I get it.

Speaker:

When.

Speaker:

They Right in the future.

Speaker:

That's right.

Speaker:

In the future, the greatest cinematic work of Ed.

Speaker:

Is number one.

Speaker:

Is number one.

Speaker:

In fact, they love Ed so much.

Speaker:

They name their currency.

Speaker:

Exactly.

Speaker:

After I get it, I understand early thousand shows.

Speaker:

I get it, Eddy, but then he goes back to Maine.

Speaker:

And he goes back to Lucy's place.

Speaker:

Because he passes out 'cause he used it too much.

Speaker:

Oh, that's right.

Speaker:

They and they go on their BD date.

Speaker:

Yeah he, so he passes out 'cause they use it too much.

Speaker:

She tries to take him to the hospital.

Speaker:

And then the hospital the ambulance person tries to rob him.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

He's oh, I found out he has this cool spine thing.

Speaker:

I'm gonna steal it.

Speaker:

This is basically Gotham on steroids.

Speaker:

It's, yeah.

Speaker:

Cyber Gotham on steroids.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Cyber Gotham on steroids.

Speaker:

So then they They go back.

Speaker:

So then like they escape somehow old his hospital bed's, like literally

Speaker:

in the middle of the highway.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

She does this crazy ninja judo stuff where she kicks the door open and

Speaker:

now they're on the super highway.

Speaker:

And the only way is that she moves the car is by shaking

Speaker:

her ass to the left or right.

Speaker:

How wasn't mad at it, but Yeah.

Speaker:

And then they get back to her place.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Pass out.

Speaker:

They, they get to the hospital.

Speaker:

No, that gets a doc, the guy who put it in.

Speaker:

And then they give him the eddies that they earned that day from stealing.

Speaker:

To give him his psychosis medicine, which I always wonder what that was,

Speaker:

that stuff that prevents you from being, I don't know, it's the future

Speaker:

fucking a serum syrup type of thing?

Speaker:

Probably maple syrup.

Speaker:

Frog.

Speaker:

Maple syrup.

Speaker:

So then they fucking that's when Lucy betrays him.

Speaker:

She, he goes back to her place and it turns out that, They're,

Speaker:

she's a cyberpunk edge runner.

Speaker:

And they go around doing crazy jobs and the leader of this gang is

Speaker:

called Maine and he's gonna kill him.

Speaker:

But then he finds out the person who he was working with was his mom.

Speaker:

And he gives him a chance to join the crew and be cool because originally

Speaker:

the reason why he wants to kill him is that he has his equipment installed

Speaker:

in his mine main was supposed to get his, the David's equipment.

Speaker:

So then they go on a couple, they go on various missions, do you?

Speaker:

I feel kinda like Rebecca does nothing but hit on him the whole time.

Speaker:

There's like this, so just like this shorter cybernetic girl, all she does

Speaker:

is hit on him and try to bang him the whole time and he just doesn't care.

Speaker:

He's so infatuated with Lucy.

Speaker:

Who he initially met that he just does not care at all.

Speaker:

She also looks like she's 10 years old, and Lucy is supposed to be,

Speaker:

I looked it up, Lucy's supposed to be like 20 years old, so Yeah.

Speaker:

And David is like, what, 17, 18?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

He's like 17.

Speaker:

No.

Speaker:

Rebecca, she's of age, but she's she looks like a kid.

Speaker:

So it's yeah, I can see why you wouldn't.

Speaker:

Anime logic.

Speaker:

She's 400 years old, but she looks, eight years old for some reason, whatever.

Speaker:

And then they have her brother dies.

Speaker:

'cause it's 'cause they were messing with a cyber psychosis homeless guy.

Speaker:

Because the dude was pee, was piss, he was just pee.

Speaker:

And the, and then the guy was like, damn, you chromed out your dick.

Speaker:

That must have hurt like shit.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Why would you do that?

Speaker:

And then he's Hugging on him and suffer, and then the dude

Speaker:

goes, it just blows his head off.

Speaker:

And it's like, why are you, first of all, this man is peeing freely

Speaker:

out in the street now, I don't know.

Speaker:

I've never been to the cyberpunk future of 2077 in about 50 years.

Speaker:

But what I do know is that what if God willing, if I'm still alive 50 years

Speaker:

from now, I'm not gonna just gonna go up to a homeless man and start

Speaker:

talking to him while he's pissing.

Speaker:

Especially when he's just especially when he has someone

Speaker:

who has chromed out their dick.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I feel like that person just needs to be left alone, just

Speaker:

needs to be left alone in general.

Speaker:

So he might've deserved it a little bit.

Speaker:

Maybe a little, maybe just a tadd.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So then and then plus his, like sister Rebecca then inherited like his,

Speaker:

like cybernetic hands or something.

Speaker:

And then David doesn't want them.

Speaker:

He was like, he, because Maine's here you go man.

Speaker:

Here's some golden chromed out cybernetic hands.

Speaker:

And he is nah, I'm good.

Speaker:

He is seriously?

Speaker:

He's these are super expensive.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And he was like, nah, I got my eye on something else.

Speaker:

I.

Speaker:

And he is got his eye on Maine's hands.

Speaker:

Yeah, main's.

Speaker:

Main's.

Speaker:

Giant arms.

Speaker:

They go on this one mission and Maine starts to go into cyber

Speaker:

psychosis where he beats the crap out of one of the other people.

Speaker:

One the other edge, I think it's Kiwi.

Speaker:

Yeah, Kiwi.

Speaker:

One of the other edge runners.

Speaker:

And so then Lucy has to jack into Lucy has to step up and get into it.

Speaker:

So basically they had to plug into steal Mr.

Speaker:

Tanaka's information, which ironically was the father of

Speaker:

the guy, of the kid he beat up.

Speaker:

Also we're skipping over a major plot point, which is

Speaker:

David gets laid before that.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

And Maine, my man and Maine, he goes back and he sits up with Maine and Maine's

Speaker:

Hey, man, you look a little different.

Speaker:

You're normally a vibe killer.

Speaker:

You're right.

Speaker:

And now you're nice and chill.

Speaker:

You got some pussy, didn't you Got laid?

Speaker:

You got laid.

Speaker:

And it's like, what?

Speaker:

No.

Speaker:

He's it's all good, man.

Speaker:

Because initially they, him, David, and Maine have a conversation about, Hey man,

Speaker:

I'm surprised you ain't hit that yet.

Speaker:

Or I'm surprised ain't nothing going on with you guys yet.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And David's basically saying, there's nothing going on because she won't let me.

Speaker:

He's it's not like I'm not trying.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And I really think they, I guess we won't, I guess we could spoil the ending.

Speaker:

I really don't.

Speaker:

I guess so.

Speaker:

So I.

Speaker:

But the showdown with the student who David beat up his dad.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

This dude had some crazy arsenal.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

He has a whole bunch of stuff.

Speaker:

And then what ended up happening was is they were like, okay,

Speaker:

we gotta take this dude's data.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And so Lucy Jackson to his data, and you also find out eventually that

Speaker:

Lucy was part of this, like secret governor organization, because of

Speaker:

course that was like trained for.

Speaker:

To steal, net data.

Speaker:

And they're exploring the old net, right?

Speaker:

The old net searching for data, which I don't know why he would

Speaker:

do that, but that they were trying to look for lost knowledge.

Speaker:

So there was a guy that was like this legendary hacker, and in one day he

Speaker:

like destroyed like 75% of the net.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And then it, and it fragmented itself into a bunch of different local nets.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

But I'm like, why?

Speaker:

What do you think you're gonna get from.

Speaker:

This lost.

Speaker:

It wasn't like it.

Speaker:

They made them seem like they were doing something malicious.

Speaker:

But there's nothing really malicious about seeking like regular,

Speaker:

their methods were malicious.

Speaker:

They were killing children.

Speaker:

That's pretty, that's, I wouldn't say that I'm pretty m say that,

Speaker:

but that's pretty on par for anime.

Speaker:

So then they actually tricked David into getting into the suit they wanted

Speaker:

him to get into originally anyway.

Speaker:

And David is already showing signs of like cyro psychosis.

Speaker:

Oh yeah.

Speaker:

The thing is the first sign of cyber psychosis.

Speaker:

So first of all, we can't overestimate or look over when Maine dies, right?

Speaker:

Because Maine doesn't have to die, right?

Speaker:

Maine has basically said, Hey, my old lady's dead.

Speaker:

And yeah, his right hand.

Speaker:

His right hand woman rather.

Speaker:

She kinda looks like a man a little bit.

Speaker:

She's supposed to be like a super strong, I don't, they're banging, so I guess he

Speaker:

doesn't think so, but she kinda looks like, reminds me of pink, a little bit.

Speaker:

Like a super buff pink.

Speaker:

Yeah, like a pink would just like writ.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And so what ends up happening is shit goes wrong.

Speaker:

Because of course it does, because it's anime.

Speaker:

And.

Speaker:

David and Lucy and David are in the car, and they're like, David's I gotta go.

Speaker:

And she's no it's done.

Speaker:

It's over with.

Speaker:

They're surrounded.

Speaker:

Let's get outta here.

Speaker:

And he's no, that's not.

Speaker:

It's not how that's messed up.

Speaker:

That's not how things should go.

Speaker:

And she's we can just run off.

Speaker:

And he is look, I'll be right back.

Speaker:

I'm coming back.

Speaker:

'cause also, he's the only one with super speed.

Speaker:

So he's he could possibly do that, right?

Speaker:

And so they get there and he's come on, main, let's go this, that, and the other.

Speaker:

Basically you find out, he's listen, my old lady's gone and I am crazy.

Speaker:

And that was really my only reason for living, right?

Speaker:

So now that she's gone, I'm tired of running.

Speaker:

This is it for me.

Speaker:

And he's okay, cool.

Speaker:

That's it for me too.

Speaker:

And he was like, nah, you should go on and live your life, but I get to die.

Speaker:

If both of us die, it's not as cool, right?

Speaker:

I have to be the one that die.

Speaker:

It's don't take my shine, bro.

Speaker:

Chill out with that.

Speaker:

Let me get my moment.

Speaker:

Let me go out in a blaze of glory, right?

Speaker:

If you are here, you're just gonna be messing up my vibe, man.

Speaker:

But so then what ends up happening is then they do a typical like time skip, right?

Speaker:

We don't know exactly how we're making it sound really funny.

Speaker:

His death was actually pretty tragic.

Speaker:

No, it was his death.

Speaker:

His death was pretty emotional.

Speaker:

His death was really tragic.

Speaker:

And also the thing was, is can you see a little glimpses of Maine's backstory?

Speaker:

Like you have no idea where this guy is from or anything about him, right?

Speaker:

But he's like a kid in the desert.

Speaker:

For some reason and stuff like that.

Speaker:

And then so you see that David gets out, but he also has something in his hands.

Speaker:

And they just so happen to be Maine's hands because of what he wanted.

Speaker:

'cause Maine was like, Hey, listen, if I flatlined, they're all yours.

Speaker:

You just have, but of course, like he'd rather have Maine.

Speaker:

He wouldn't rather have the fun.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

But then there's the time, skip where.

Speaker:

Then David becomes like super buff and he become super smacked out.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

What's crazy is I thought it was a couple of years, especially only a couple of

Speaker:

months, Yeah, it's supposed to be like six months or something like that.

Speaker:

And I'm like, dang, dude, this guy like grew in height.

Speaker:

He grew in height and got on and put on 60 pounds.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Crazy.

Speaker:

But then that's just the, that's just the the chrome.

Speaker:

He had to so that way they would fit.

Speaker:

So then they go on different missions.

Speaker:

Rebecca's Lucy has quit.

Speaker:

Because, and he's Lucy's like completely shaken up by the events and also

Speaker:

even though her and David still live together or something like that.

Speaker:

Also, Lucy is naked a lot more after the Times scare.

Speaker:

Just apparently going crazy means that she just, I don't like clothes anymore.

Speaker:

She just walks around just butt naked, just oh, I was traumatized.

Speaker:

I will no longer wear clothes.

Speaker:

That's it.

Speaker:

Also.

Speaker:

David doesn't look like he's got a dick.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's weird.

Speaker:

Does it just just flip out or would you get a cyber dick?

Speaker:

I don't know.

Speaker:

I think that might be the one thing I, it took so long, this.

Speaker:

Respond.

Speaker:

You thought about it?

Speaker:

I did.

Speaker:

Thought you thought about it because if you ask every guy,

Speaker:

Hey, do you want a bigger dick?

Speaker:

Do you want a better dick?

Speaker:

There's no guy that's going to say no to be like, no.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I like I, I don't know man.

Speaker:

I me and my guy, we've been so close for so long.

Speaker:

I don't think, I don't think I could, I don't think I could betray him like that.

Speaker:

You know what I'm saying?

Speaker:

But he looked like Akin Doll down there.

Speaker:

Now he could have just I'm pretty sure it's some sort of ah, it probably

Speaker:

comes out of a casing or something.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I don't know.

Speaker:

That's so weird.

Speaker:

Anyway, so then they then they get this other job and basically, and he, anyway,

Speaker:

like the thing is that his arm is shaking.

Speaker:

'cause of the cyber psychosis.

Speaker:

And that's when he gets, they go into this job to Tanaka dad, no, not Tanaka

Speaker:

dad, but the group Tanaka dad was Tanaka, actually, his name's Tanaka.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

His name is Tanaka.

Speaker:

That Tanaka was with, they trick him into stealing this truck that has the thing

Speaker:

they wanted him to get in the first place.

Speaker:

And they're like, oh, okay.

Speaker:

The only way, and they send it in the military after them, like the only way

Speaker:

you to survive is for you to put it on.

Speaker:

And even Rebecca and everyone else is don't do it because you

Speaker:

know it's gonna drive you insane.

Speaker:

But he does it anyway to save him.

Speaker:

And then Kiwi betrays them.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

The whole reason they even got us is 'cause Kiwi betrayed them for money.

Speaker:

For money, but also because it's like, Hey, if I don't, I'm

Speaker:

just as screwed as they are.

Speaker:

But also for money.

Speaker:

But also for money.

Speaker:

And David at this point is basically I know I'm going to die doing this, right?

Speaker:

Because I'm might as well just go all out.

Speaker:

And then Lucy, she wants to save him.

Speaker:

'cause she's oh, don't put on the machine 'cause I know it's gonna drive you crazy.

Speaker:

So that brings her back out.

Speaker:

They, and then they kidnap Lucy, they fake.

Speaker:

It's Lucy and then Lucy actually is don't do it.

Speaker:

Don't do it.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And then they A while back, they have to hack in because Maine punched out Kiwi.

Speaker:

And so what ended up happening was is Lucy was like, tell David I need you to

Speaker:

say that you believe in me to do this.

Speaker:

And then that's how they get David to get into the suit

Speaker:

because Lucy's I believe in you.

Speaker:

And so then, He's because they faked him.

Speaker:

Pretend that Lucy's telling him to get in the suit when she's not really.

Speaker:

So then he gets in the suit they trick him to get inside.

Speaker:

And then he realized that he was played, which also he's

Speaker:

lost his like legs and his arms.

Speaker:

He's basically only a torso now.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And a torso in the head.

Speaker:

And they go to actually rescue Lucy and then a character

Speaker:

from the actual game shows up.

Speaker:

Adam Smasher.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And Adam Smasher.

Speaker:

Does what Adam Smasher does.

Speaker:

He just demolishes everybody and all this special, like when he goes super speed,

Speaker:

he has this like super, like this, like the world kinda like changes, right?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And he goes like through these fades and then Adam Smasher can also do it too.

Speaker:

It's super dope.

Speaker:

Although I did not, Rebecca got stalked out.

Speaker:

Yeah, dude.

Speaker:

She got smashed every, basically, she was like, we're having a moment here.

Speaker:

Bang.

Speaker:

Basically everyone dies but Falco, Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And Lucy, yeah, Falcon and Lucy.

Speaker:

And then the ending in which Lucy is going on and she finally makes it to

Speaker:

the moon, but it doesn't matter because she's always wanted to go to the moon.

Speaker:

That's been her lifelong dream.

Speaker:

But now it doesn't matter.

Speaker:

'cause she, the people that she likes is like, are like, go on.

Speaker:

Which I thought was a, even though the anime was fantastic, like it's one

Speaker:

of the, I think the last anime that I think was that good was like Lin Saga.

Speaker:

Then the song was hype.

Speaker:

This one was the hype.

Speaker:

This one was also really fantastic, but also at the same time, the

Speaker:

motivation, if you think about it, is really strange to go to the moon.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

It's it's not like the moon's inaccessible, it's basically a ticket.

Speaker:

It's like a plane ticket because in one of the episodes previous.

Speaker:

Because David is getting closer and closer to psychosis they show a commercial

Speaker:

where it's oh, 250 k to go to the moon, and he's oh, it's only 250 k.

Speaker:

Like, they can afford to go anytime they want to.

Speaker:

So it's then why go now?

Speaker:

I don't know.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

At the end the ending was weird.

Speaker:

There's a lot of people, there's a lot of people that don't

Speaker:

particularly like the ending.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I didn't mind it.

Speaker:

I was like, oh, okay.

Speaker:

Yeah, David gave the rest of it is so good.

Speaker:

Like you give it a pass.

Speaker:

David was like I'm gonna give my life for you to, go complete your dream.

Speaker:

Or, if everyone else is dead, what else does she have to do?

Speaker:

But it's if I die and 12 other people die for you.

Speaker:

You better at least go on the train.

Speaker:

That's a least you could do is get 'em to get him the fucking

Speaker:

train and go with the space.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I but the anime itself was phenomenal, man.

Speaker:

And the fact that, yeah, they weaved in the love story.

Speaker:

The animation's really great.

Speaker:

The the story is really great.

Speaker:

Who was your favorite character?

Speaker:

Yeah, it was definitely it was definitely Lucy.

Speaker:

Lucy.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I would have to say, I don't know man.

Speaker:

I think I am gonna say Maine, just because he's such a jerk

Speaker:

what humanity was taken from him.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

He's such a, that's why Lucy was attracted to David to begin with.

Speaker:

'cause everybody around him is just like soulless psychopaths.

Speaker:

But that's the world that they live in.

Speaker:

And Maine even explains that to David where he is that's just the way it is.

Speaker:

I wish it was different, but it's not, but made, he's like a really solid leader.

Speaker:

Too, like he, when he tests out David, he's not pushing him because

Speaker:

he believes that he can't do it.

Speaker:

He's pushing him because he knows that he can.

Speaker:

There was this t there was this it reminded me of this TV show I

Speaker:

forgot the name of it, but basically it's like a cop show, right?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And what happens is there's a cop trainer.

Speaker:

And he's really hard on this one woman.

Speaker:

And then what ends up happening is there's a, is there's a military

Speaker:

veteran that comes in and he's really nice to this woman, right?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And then the original woman is like, why are you being so nice to her?

Speaker:

You were so mean to me.

Speaker:

He was like, Because you're already a kind and caring individual.

Speaker:

He said she came from Afghanistan.

Speaker:

He said she's still fighting the battle in Afghanistan.

Speaker:

He said the difference is you already know that the, that you're kind and.

Speaker:

Whatever.

Speaker:

She doesn't, she still thinks that the world is Afghanistan.

Speaker:

He said, so I have to help her out.

Speaker:

I had to show you that the world is a cruel place.

Speaker:

I had to make you tough and I had to make her solve.

Speaker:

Exactly.

Speaker:

So that's basically the narrative that there.

Speaker:

So if you could, so what's your ranking then?

Speaker:

Out of 10?

Speaker:

I would give at it eight, 8.5.

Speaker:

Whoa, that's high for you, Nicholas.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

That's really high.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

That's like.

Speaker:

What is that?

Speaker:

A point under Gundam?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Dang, bro, that's high for you.

Speaker:

I would say no, actually, no.

Speaker:

I'll go with that.

Speaker:

I'll go with that.

Speaker:

Solid eight, 8.5 solid.

Speaker:

I'd say it's solid.

Speaker:

Eight.

Speaker:

You solid eight.

Speaker:

I'm gonna go with 8.5.

Speaker:

I thought it was really great.
