Hello. Beautiful. I hope this finds you really well. And if it doesn't, I'm here to help. Because today in this bonus episode, we're going to talk about overwhelm and that feeling of just feeling completely like, what do I do next? And almost procrastination. You've got a list of things as long as your arm to do, but you just don't know where to start.
Well, first up procrastination is a sign of overwhelm. It's not because you're lazy. It's not because you can't
00:30
get your things together. It's because there is too much. And what we need to do is we need to break that down. Second thing is that we're also in the season of winter, certainly here in the UK.
Where we're in that cold grey period, those couple of months where not a lot is going on, you know, people aren't necessarily going out and getting around people, for obvious reasons, but also just because it's that going to ground season. And also that is the point we live in a society nowadays where it's always the next thing, the
01:00
excitement or the activity to being busy.
And actually we've forgotten how to just sit and be and sit withthat perhaps discomfort of not feeling 100%, because a lot of the time we can distract ourselves, especially with as busy moms, because we put so many things, we've got all the kids' things. We've got all the activities. We had Christmas, we had all the family, we had all the staff and now that's all done and dusted.
And I bet you, during the Christmas period you were thinking, oh, just kind of wait to January when I have nothing to do. And now you've got here and you're like, oh my gosh.
01:30
And you feel a bit lost, like where to start. So what I do when I'm feeling stressed and overwhelmed is two things. I do a massive brain dump.
And secondly, I reflect on my foundation. I already believe the outcomes of our lives are based on our foundation. So those foundations are the habits, the things that we do most of the time that keep us grounded. So this is why I'm always going on about healthy habits, because I firmly believe that we're all just two to three healthy habits away from thriving in what ever stage of our lives we're at right
02:00
now.
And it needs to obviously fit with what you need in your life right now. So that is the foundation. So what are your foundations for me? That's very much my faith, my family and my health. So when I find myself getting overwhelmed, it's usually because what I'm doing day to day, or the priorities in inverted commas that I'm focusing on are not aligned to those foundations.
So that's, what's leading to me feeling really discombobulated and all mixed up inside. Like my little five-year-old when she gets upset, I say, oh, do you feel mixed up inside? Yes, mommy. And
02:30
it's like that feeling of. The second thing is I do a massive brain dump. So I literally get a notebook or a big white piece of A4 paper.
I usually grab it out my printer because I can never find my notebook when I need to, because normally my five-year-old's walked off with it to go color in it. Anyone else's do that so fun and I will just get it all down on paper, because there is something very scientific about the fact that when you get it out of your head onto paper, you can then a start to breathe and also start to release and start
03:00
to sort out, okay, well, that's something I need to do now.
That's something I can do later. That's something I can do that in the future. And you can have those three columns and you can move things around. And if you're really into like apps and tech, you can actually use things like Asana or Trello boards, because you can actually drag and drop these things.
And it's really cool. I'll link to that in the show notes. But yeah, that's how I sort my brain out. And that just makes me realize, okay, that's what I need to do. That's what I can delegate. And it just helps me sort that out. So just a big brain dump 20 minutes with a cup of something, whatever you need and to do
03:30
that.
And also just to know that it's okay. Not to feel okay all the time, but yes, if you're feeling overwhelmed, that's usually because there's a lot going on. You're procrastinating. There's lots of different things. You've got to get organized in your brain and sort that out. And you've got to take that time to reflect and be able to do that, which I know isn't always the easiest, but what I do is I sort of lock myself in my office and having a lock on your door is a really great tip.
And I do that exercise and I actually do it once a week. I call it my CEO
04:00
date with myself. And I just get it all down. I organize it and I plan out my week. So I hope that tip has helped you today. And if you are feeling stuck and still feeling very overwhelmed and like, you don't know what to do next, then book one of my charity chats with me, these are a free, no obligation call where we can just really get you unstuck in terms of where you are in your life right now.
So the link to book that is in my show notes, and I look forward to talking to you soon. Lovely.
