What part of the world are you in today?

Well, I'm in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Did you get down there because it was too cold somewhere else, or were you always in Florida?

No, I was actually born here, but the Lord has allowed me to teach on four different continents.

So, I've been really blessed to have the opportunity to spend time in different parts of the world, but Jacksonville's my home with my wife and nine children.

How did you meet Jesus?

I grew up in a Christian home, but my friends at school got me moved into a more secular direction, and it wasn't until the death of my previous wife that God really yanked my chain.

He really pulled me in and said, okay, you've lived life your way for the first 37 years.

Now, I want you to live it my way.

And so, for the past 40 plus years, I have been trying my best to do what the Lord has ordered for me, and I'm just following the steps He's ordering for me.

I've been married for now 19 years, and I can't even imagine what it must be like to lose your wife, yeah?

So, what would you say to me to prepare me in the event of a loss of a spouse, of my spouse?

You know, Proverbs 20, 24 says the Lord orders our steps because what does a man know about his own way?

And so, here's what I would say to you, is the fact that I don't understand why my wife committed suicide, but what I do understand is that this was a turning point in my life to make not just a commitment to God, but to live out the rest of my life, and not only that, to raise the other children that He has given me, and to be able to teach and share the Word in a meaningful way.

And He has opened up platforms for that.

So, while it was probably the most painful experience of my life, I also see it as a pivotal point for God bringing me to a point to where I was humbled enough to listen to Him and do the things that were necessary to straighten things out and get into the sanctification process so that He could heal me.

Is there a biblical character that parallels what you experienced?

What I experienced was the peace that passes understanding.

After I blamed myself for my wife's passing for about eight months, I got up one day and looked in the mirror, and God said to me, you're the only person that can do something about this.

You can sit here in your misery, or you can begin your life again, because I am a loving God, a God who forgives and opens new pathways to an existence that is going to be better than ever before.

I had three children at that time, and God gave me six more.

He doubled the blessings that I had in my life.

Since then, He's given me the opportunity to teach in the United Kingdom and Italy and France and share the gospel in ways I would have never imagined.

So, what God has done is He has taken the Holy Spirit to turn me around and give me an opportunity to share the peace that I now have with other people and let them know it's available to them, because God is patient.

He is willing to be there when we need Him.

That's why the children of Israel always cried out to Him when they were in trouble, and I was in trouble, and I cried out, and He heard me.

Job is the biblical character that comes to mind, isn't it?

He's the one that got doubled for his trouble.

It's his faith as well in God that helped him carry through.

Would you agree that Job—not that your level is anywhere close to what Job experienced, yeah?

But nevertheless, very similar in story type, is it?

Some of us are more malleable, more willing to listen than others are.

I was hard-headed, and God needed to take a two-by-four to me instead of a switch.

So, He did that, but the important thing was He was patient enough to be there for me despite my selfishness, my ego, and all of the things that are not the kind of humility we're supposed to have, because our lives aren't about us.

Our lives are about God, and when we understand that, then it opens up a whole new realm.

I've seen the work that you've done through the psychometric biblical perspective.

My introduction with the psychometric analysis came with the DISC profile.

Take me into that and how you encounter that and how you use what you use, please.

Well, as I was working as a vice president of a New York stock exchange company, one of the things that we tried to do was analyze what motivated people so that they could buy our products and services because they were motivated.

And I studied under Dr. Chris Martin at the University of Missouri, and he showed me how to create an assessment.

And in that process, I learned, and it allowed me to create a behaviors mindset similar to DISC, a spiritual gifts assessment, a fruit of the spirit assessment, and the fruit of the spirit and the gifts assessment are the most thorough assessments on the internet, and they are free.

I have set that up so that people such as you and me and people that wanted to know how God is at work in their life can do that at no cost, because God gave something to me, and my job is to pass that on.

How old are you now?

A few months from being 80 years old.

Whoa!

If you dye that hair black, you can get away with a cool 70.

Easily, yeah?

Easily.

That's good.

So God has been good to you.

Yes.

What God has done since January of last year is told me to write.

And so I have spent the past two years writing books.

The first one, Are You Coachable?, which helps identify if we are open.

And the number one factor in my research was expressed humility.

We have to be humble to accept other people's input, because we may know a lot, but we don't know everything.

And God wants us to have more, but we have to have that growth mindset.

And my most recent book, A God-Shaped Mind, illustrates from a scientific perspective how God works on our brains even while we're asleep, and he expands them.

And Harvard Medical School, University of California, Irvine, Baylor University, all these other studies have proven that without the Spirit of God existing inside of you, your brain will never, ever reach its full potential.

228 references prove that science says that what the Bible wrote 2,000 years ago when it said God's transforming our minds is a scientific fact.

I'm intrigued by the cross-section of where money and humility meet.

So the graph says there's an increase in money.

Is there also a decrease in humility most times or an increase in humility?

It's a very good question because even the surveys that I have done with pastors, staff members, as well as people in the corporate environment, the higher they seem to go in that level of power as well as money and finances, the lower the expressed humility is.

And that's the sad thing because what it reminds us of is when was Israel getting in most trouble?

When they were well off.

And it's human nature to forget about God and believe our own resumes.

We can't do that, my brother.

We cannot do that because when we do that, we are putting ourselves above God.

You would have heard the evolution of your life in the sadness you encountered to the joy you experienced.

What is a message you'd leave for future you?

Regardless of how God blesses me in the future, it's always a gift from Him.

It will never, ever be anything that I did on my own.

And I think at this point that God has humbled me enough, but I will say this, there's always room for ego and pride.

And that's why we must have accountability partners.

For me to be able to share with you my heart, it's because I trust you because of the faith and the Holy Spirit that lives in your life, brother.

That's why I'm here.

And I would not share those things with the average person, but I know that you are governed by the same spirit I am.

And I'm willing to share whatever you ask, because I'm just sharing the truth.
