Speaker:

Ever wonder what's really lurking in your tap water and what it

Speaker:

could be doing to your health?

Speaker:

Today on the podcast, I have Helen Christoni here from Ideal Living,

Speaker:

and she is an expert on water and filtration and really what to do.

Speaker:

So she's gonna help us unpack what is, are all these hidden poisons

Speaker:

and, and toxins and whatnot.

Speaker:

Inside our water supply in all of ours and how you can do something about it.

Speaker:

There's some simple science back steps to take to purify all this water

Speaker:

so you're in control in your home and also when you're out and about.

Speaker:

So we're gonna dive in.

Speaker:

This is extremely important, especially if you are in the middle of detoxing

Speaker:

or thinking about doing that.

Speaker:

All right, so let's dive in.

Speaker:

All right, Helen, how are you doing today?

Speaker:

It's great to have you here.

Speaker:

I'm so good, Joe.

Speaker:

I'm really glad to see you again.

Speaker:

I know it's been a, it's been a little bit, and I know you've been busy.

Speaker:

You've been, um, with Yeah, Ideal Living the company, but, uh, you

Speaker:

know, we're talking about AquaTru and water stuff today, which you have.

Speaker:

Uh, really cool.

Speaker:

Um, I mean, you have, you've been in this space for a long time, the whole

Speaker:

water filtration and you've studied this, so I'm just super curious to learn all

Speaker:

about water from you and Yeah, we haven't really done a water specific episode, so

Speaker:

that's where, you know, I'm like, well, I know someone, Helen Helen's the one.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And you know, like the more that I've learned about water, the more that I

Speaker:

am passionate about talking about it because it's so vital for life and

Speaker:

people just don't know what, what they're drinking and what they're cooking with.

Speaker:

So super important that we talk about it and, um, just raise everybody's

Speaker:

awareness on what their options are.

Speaker:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker:

And that's where, because I didn't know much of what, you know, what's in our

Speaker:

water supply and you know, because we've talked before on, uh, on my other show,

Speaker:

but also just in person and, and you know, we have some mutual friends and I

Speaker:

just went down the rabbit hole learning about like, yeah, what is in my local

Speaker:

water supply as opposed to maybe others.

Speaker:

It's all kind of different, but also what can we do about it?

Speaker:

So that's why I feel like that's what we could talk about here.

Speaker:

And yeah.

Speaker:

I'm curious, so Helen, like what, I guess what, what was the switch or what got you

Speaker:

into this whole space in the first place?

Speaker:

Well, you know, I was, I, um, have known the founder of Ideal Living

Speaker:

Peter Spiegel for a long time.

Speaker:

I worked with him earlier in my career like 25 years ago.

Speaker:

And, um, I went into the beauty business and then I came back

Speaker:

into health and wellness.

Speaker:

When I wanted to pivot, I came back to work here, um,

Speaker:

for AquaTru by Ideal Living.

Speaker:

When I started learning about the water, um, my big aha moment is when I ran my, I

Speaker:

went to ewg.org and I ran my water report.

Speaker:

And so for those of you not driving, if you're sitting at a computer, um, or if

Speaker:

you're just chilling on your phone, go to ewg.org and put your zip code in and that.

Speaker:

Was it for me, like when I saw that there were 16 contaminants in my uni

Speaker:

municipality that caused cancer that were over the health limits, I was like, whoa.

Speaker:

You know?

Speaker:

And so anybody that runs their ewg.org report is gonna have a very

Speaker:

similar reaction, unfortunately, across the United States.

Speaker:

And so, um, really important knowledge is power.

Speaker:

And you know, I mean, it's like the, you know, people, I always

Speaker:

hear it from people that live in New York and I love New York, right?

Speaker:

Oh, we got the best water, we got the best water.

Speaker:

You do not have the best water, and it is totally filled with microplastics,

Speaker:

forever, chemicals, carcinogens, all kinds of things that are horrible for you.

Speaker:

So, so really important.

Speaker:

We know what's in our water and now, um, we're just really.

Speaker:

We're just, there's so many chemicals in our water supply that we really need

Speaker:

to be, everybody needs to be purifying their water at the household level.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I mean, that's a minimum, right?

Speaker:

Like, well,

Speaker:

everybody,

Speaker:

Yeah, it, well, I, I mean like, yeah, no worries.

Speaker:

Uh.

Speaker:

I don't know.

Speaker:

It just blows me away.

Speaker:

'cause Yeah, I did the ewg.org/tap water I think will get you right

Speaker:

to like the water zip code.

Speaker:

Little thing.

Speaker:

So plug in your zip code.

Speaker:

I mean, what kinda stuff you said microplastics, I mean, what are some

Speaker:

of these other elements or things that you're, you're seeing in water.

Speaker:

The one thing that always gets me when I run my EWG report is the Chromium six.

Speaker:

So Erin Brockovich movie came out over 30 years ago for people who remember,

Speaker:

and you know, she was talking about the chromium levels in Flint, Michigan.

Speaker:

It was a, it's a big, I mean, it's horrible and it's a,

Speaker:

it's a horrible contaminant.

Speaker:

It shouldn't be in our water.

Speaker:

We've known about this for a long time.

Speaker:

Um, there's a whole movie made about it and 30 years later

Speaker:

it's still in our water supply.

Speaker:

I was in Orlando, Florida, and you know, and I ran a woman's water report

Speaker:

there and I mean, they had, she had things in her water that was the.

Speaker:

Thousand times over the health guidelines.

Speaker:

Now what's really interesting is you can see the Forever chemicals and all

Speaker:

the PAS pfas that are in your water.

Speaker:

So now they're starting to track that, and so at some point, hopefully they can

Speaker:

regulate it like the government needed to identify forever Chemicals, PFA.

Speaker:

As a hazard for us to be, to start even being able to measure it.

Speaker:

So there has been changes in identifying what's harmful for us, and I'm glad

Speaker:

that we're measuring it, but measuring it is one thing, removing it's another.

Speaker:

So super important that we all know what's in our water so we can

Speaker:

address it at the household level.

Speaker:

That's good.

Speaker:

Yeah, and I just as you were answering that, I was looking at my own, um,

Speaker:

water district and yeah, it shows 11 contaminants that exceed the EW G'S

Speaker:

health guidelines total of 18 contaminants

Speaker:

Yeah, and I was talking about that woman in Orlando.

Speaker:

So I was at a table, I was running some mom's like water reports, and she had

Speaker:

arsenic in her water at a thousand times.

Speaker:

The guidelines.

Speaker:

So, and she was like, oh my God, I'm gonna die.

Speaker:

You know, I mean, she's got arsenic, like poison in her water and a

Speaker:

thousand times the health guidelines.

Speaker:

And, and so that was a really big, this was just recently actually, and

Speaker:

I was like, oh my God, like, we're gonna give you an AquaTru, right?

Speaker:

Because we wanted to make sure that she, she had something to do.

Speaker:

She was so scared.

Speaker:

And so I think, not to scare people.

Speaker:

Um, there's a lot of things that people can do to purify their water,

Speaker:

but knowing what's in your water is the first step of really taking

Speaker:

control of a fundamental thing that's so important for your health journey.

Speaker:

So water key to health and making sure you got that right is really important.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Well, so I guess, talk to me now 'cause we'll talk about yeah.

Speaker:

The filtrate filtration and everything, but like, what are some

Speaker:

of the, I guess, the health impacts that you're seeing of dirty water

Speaker:

Oh gosh.

Speaker:

long-term exposure?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I mean, it's really scary, you know?

Speaker:

I mean, every single day I'm opening up a new study on microplastics.

Speaker:

You know, everyone's talking about microplastics.

Speaker:

Right now.

Speaker:

We have microplastics found in the brain cells of people that have dementia.

Speaker:

We have microplastics in people's heart valves for people that have heart disease.

Speaker:

We have, you know, microplastics in men's penile tissue when they're

Speaker:

having fertility challenges.

Speaker:

So these microplastics, we should not be ingesting them,

Speaker:

and the rate of which they're.

Speaker:

Creeping into these health implications is really, really frightening.

Speaker:

So, um, I know everyone's heard about it, like plastic

Speaker:

bottles, not good glass bottles.

Speaker:

Now suspect really, like I said earlier, purify your water at home.

Speaker:

Um, one thing I think that's a very key piece of information that I like

Speaker:

to leave with people when I'm talking about water is if you simply cut out.

Speaker:

Drinking out of plastic bottles, you will reduce your microplastic exposure by 90%.

Speaker:

This was recently published in a Harvard study, so if you're listening to this,

Speaker:

this is one choice that you can make every single day that just stop with

Speaker:

plastic, just stop and it'll really be beneficial to your long-term health.

Speaker:

that's wild?

Speaker:

That's a, that's a nuts stat.

Speaker:

And um, yeah, I just had a another woman here talking about, uh, microplastics

Speaker:

and then we have nanoplastics as well, so even smaller and.

Speaker:

Because now with the better testing you're picking up, oh,

Speaker:

there's actually, it's a lot worse.

Speaker:

So let's to say they're not all in everything else with plastic.

Speaker:

yeah.

Speaker:

And then we have like forever chemicals too.

Speaker:

I think forever.

Speaker:

Chemicals are are forever.

Speaker:

Chemicals are equally as scary because they're called forever

Speaker:

for chemicals for a reason.

Speaker:

They do not.

Speaker:

Like it's really hard to destroy a forever chemical and they can live within our

Speaker:

bodies for years and years and years.

Speaker:

And, and they're linked to things like fertility issues.

Speaker:

Again, lots of health problems, some bone disease.

Speaker:

Um, uh, we also have.

Speaker:

All kinds of, um, concerns as it relates to these contaminants

Speaker:

not being able to boil out.

Speaker:

So people think that when they cook, you know that you are, you are actually.

Speaker:

You know, cleaning your water, you're removing the bacteria from the water.

Speaker:

Sure.

Speaker:

When you boil it.

Speaker:

But some of these contaminants, they concentrate.

Speaker:

They don't dissipate.

Speaker:

And so when I learned that as a mom, that contaminants don't boil out, it really

Speaker:

blew my mind because think of all the meals we cook, all the, you know, water,

Speaker:

we boil for pasta, you know, for to make mashed potatoes like mac and cheese.

Speaker:

Let's go.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

We boil.

Speaker:

We boil a lot of water.

Speaker:

So when it comes down to when you really think about it, um, you

Speaker:

don't wanna be serving contaminated cooked meals to your family.

Speaker:

And it's really important that you know homemakers, people that

Speaker:

cook understand this because there we're programmed to think you boil

Speaker:

something, it's clean, it is not clean.

Speaker:

So another thing that you can hear today, please contaminants, do not

Speaker:

boil out and make sure that you're cooking with purified water Also.

Speaker:

And I would assume, um, because those are big.

Speaker:

Yeah, the boiling thing, I was gonna ask you about that because that's a

Speaker:

pretty common misconception, I'd say.

Speaker:

But yeah.

Speaker:

Um, how about just washing vegetables and all of that?

Speaker:

Stuff.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Anything else that you'd probably naturally run under?

Speaker:

Sink water or tap

Speaker:

Yeah, I mean, I just think as much as possible, we wanna be able, that we wanna

Speaker:

really be able to be using purified water, because I always say like, you don't

Speaker:

wanna retox when you're detoxing, right?

Speaker:

Like water is vital for us as humans to detox our bodies at the cellular level,

Speaker:

right?

Speaker:

And if you are.

Speaker:

If you are retox, when you're supposed to be detoxing, it's

Speaker:

actually quite problematic.

Speaker:

And so, so, you know, I think that.

Speaker:

You contaminated water really can cause a lot of health issues, gut

Speaker:

issues, you know, I mean, forget about all the scary chemicals.

Speaker:

Let's just talk about what they're treating.

Speaker:

The water with chlorine, chloramines, all these things.

Speaker:

I mean, it's just chewing away at our gut lining and our gut health.

Speaker:

We don't wanna be like those disinfectants are disinfecting our gut.

Speaker:

That's why I think so many people have gut issues now today, and

Speaker:

their gut bacteria is really.

Speaker:

Like, we're having so many gut issues as a country, and, and so

Speaker:

one of the most important things you can do is drink purified water.

Speaker:

'cause you don't wanna be ingesting all that chlorine, those chloramines,

Speaker:

like, it's all like, you know, they're disinfectants, right?

Speaker:

So it's like, oh, you know, let's have a side of disinfectant with our water.

Speaker:

No.

Speaker:

lovely right now.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Geez.

Speaker:

How does this affect our, you know, I mean, I'm thinking you said mac and cheese

Speaker:

and all these other things that, like kids would probably have, like how is

Speaker:

water affecting little ones more than like

Speaker:

Oh, it's very important that we, um, are not giving our kids tap

Speaker:

water, you know, like, or, or anything with microplastics in it.

Speaker:

So like, you're never gonna wanna be like, Hey, here's your.

Speaker:

Sippy cup, you know, filled with forever chemicals, right?

Speaker:

So, so we wanna give, we wanna give these kids, um, the best

Speaker:

chance developing, making sure they're detoxing as they should.

Speaker:

And you know, and also I think it's important, people are

Speaker:

always very concerned about.

Speaker:

Minerals, right?

Speaker:

And so trust me that you're getting more contaminants from your tap

Speaker:

water at home than minerals.

Speaker:

And so, um, really easy to add minerals into our diets.

Speaker:

Much harder to remove contaminants from our bodies.

Speaker:

And so I think like supplementing with minerals is super important and, um,

Speaker:

but you're not really getting them from the tap water that you're cooking

Speaker:

with or you're drinking with at home.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's like the layer is to clean first and then add in whatever,

Speaker:

uh, of those that, that you want.

Speaker:

Well, let's talk about, uh, filtering, you know, filtering water and light

Speaker:

because it comes in all different phase, or, you know, styles.

Speaker:

I mean, people have the Brit of filter, all these other things like, I guess.

Speaker:

Tell me the spectrum of filters and then kind of how, 'cause I

Speaker:

know certain filtration techniques will filter other things out.

Speaker:

first of all, I'd like to say that something is better than nothing, right?

Speaker:

Um, but, you know, water filtration isn't created equal.

Speaker:

And so I'll walk you through just different types of filtration.

Speaker:

So you have a picture filter, like you just mess it.

Speaker:

Like you just mentioned, and pitcher filters are really made to

Speaker:

remove lead and chlorine from the water and to make it taste better.

Speaker:

And so, it's one single carbon filter and so you get very light

Speaker:

filtration out of a pitcher filter.

Speaker:

And I think something that's also very important that people realize

Speaker:

is you really need to stay on top.

Speaker:

If you're using a picture filter, make sure you're staying on

Speaker:

top of your filter changes.

Speaker:

Because what happens is once that filter is, um.

Speaker:

Is like absorbed right, or cannot filter anymore.

Speaker:

Um, the contaminants will leach back into your water.

Speaker:

So then you're actually like superdosing your water.

Speaker:

If you're not on top of your filter changes, that's a big concern.

Speaker:

Like you see all these kids going to colleges, everyone's sending

Speaker:

a picture filter with their kids.

Speaker:

Please, please send an AquaTru because like, trust me, you know,

Speaker:

like my own daughter, Bella.

Speaker:

Um, she had a picture filter and when I moved her into the craft,

Speaker:

it was a game changer for her.

Speaker:

Like she loved taking her little glass picture to her bed.

Speaker:

And, um, anyway, so with my own daughter, I made that switch.

Speaker:

Then you have.

Speaker:

Fridge filters or sink filters.

Speaker:

Now fridge and fridge and sink filters are marginally better than picture

Speaker:

filters because there's pressure anytime you know, and anytime you put pressure

Speaker:

through a filter, it's gonna work better.

Speaker:

It's gonna remove more contaminant.

Speaker:

So they're like marginally better than Then picture filters, same thing.

Speaker:

You can superD dose your water or your ice cubes if you're not changing the filters.

Speaker:

And then also.

Speaker:

It's a single level of filtration.

Speaker:

Then you get into like what we have at um, Aqua Tru, which is four stage reverse

Speaker:

osmosis, like quadruple filtration.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

And the thing about ro, which is so great is, let me break it down for you.

Speaker:

So we have our first stage which removes all the sediment, rust,

Speaker:

that kind of stuff from the water.

Speaker:

Then we have our second phase of filtration, which it removes things

Speaker:

like chlorine, chloramines, lets, and then it goes to the RO filter.

Speaker:

So the RO filter is really a game changer here.

Speaker:

So the RO filter to membrane and all the pure water goes to one side.

Speaker:

The contaminated water stays back.

Speaker:

And then we have a fourth level of filtration, which is this carbon VOC

Speaker:

filter, which removes things like.

Speaker:

We are not even testing for like drug residue, rocket fuel, this sort of

Speaker:

thing, like forever chemicals that kind of just like seals the deal.

Speaker:

And you can also remineralize that filter if you want to.

Speaker:

We have a remineralization option, makes it alkaline, um, raises the pH,

Speaker:

which people like, but I wanna talk about RO gets a really bad rap because

Speaker:

there's a little bit of wastewater.

Speaker:

And we've worked really hard at AquaTru to minimize the amount of wastewater,

Speaker:

and I myself have really had just my own aha moment as it relates to the

Speaker:

poisonous water that's left behind.

Speaker:

Like that is the poison.

Speaker:

Like no one wants to be ingesting that, and you not want your family or

Speaker:

your kids ingesting this wastewater.

Speaker:

You wanna throw it away.

Speaker:

You do not wanna use it.

Speaker:

It's literally.

Speaker:

Poisonous contaminants that can do harm to your body.

Speaker:

And so like I've really kinda changed my perspective.

Speaker:

We've worked so hard to minimize the, the, um, the contaminated

Speaker:

water that's left over.

Speaker:

But I really, as time goes on and water gets worse and worse and worse,

Speaker:

like please don't feel bad about just discarding that poisonous water.

Speaker:

It's really not good for us.

Speaker:

And especially in the carafe.

Speaker:

I know.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

It will leave, you know, 'cause I've had the carafe and also the, um, under sink.

Speaker:

Uh, one It makes sense though 'cause I'm imagining it's

Speaker:

'cause of the pressure, right?

Speaker:

Like you have to force water through to actually get the, the purified water

Speaker:

and also you can tell it's really gross, like it's a different color.

Speaker:

It smells like it's toxic water that's left behind, and so,

Speaker:

yeah, please discard of it.

Speaker:

You're not to reuse that water.

Speaker:

It's, it's really concentrated contaminated water.

Speaker:

just with that alone, it's just like, that's blows my mind because that

Speaker:

is concentrated contaminant water that normally would be diluted, but

Speaker:

through all the water that you're having and you're off your tap.

Speaker:

So it's

Speaker:

Just like Air Doctor, which is the sister brand to AquaTru.

Speaker:

Like you see all that disgusting stuff that air doctor catches.

Speaker:

It's the same thing with the water, like in that leaf behind tank.

Speaker:

It is gross.

Speaker:

You just take a whiff of that stuff and it's really, really disgusting.

Speaker:

So, so I actually, it gives me peace of mind that my

Speaker:

water's really being purified.

Speaker:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And, and genuinely the taste of this water, uh, I is like so much better.

Speaker:

It's, it, it really is.

Speaker:

And it, and that's also, you know, Dr. Savage in, in MD lifespan.

Speaker:

I know he's, and in the guidebooks you'll see AquaTru recommended

Speaker:

as the go-to water filtration.

Speaker:

funny story.

Speaker:

I was just at another podcast and it was at a, like, it was

Speaker:

the biohacking conference.

Speaker:

The guy tried to catch me, like he tried to trick me, and he had

Speaker:

three cups of water, all unmarked.

Speaker:

One was AquaTru, one was tap, and one was.

Speaker:

Bottled mineral water and he was trying to see if I could

Speaker:

figure out which one was which.

Speaker:

And I totally nailed it.

Speaker:

Like I knew like Wa Aqua Tru is some of the best tasting

Speaker:

water you will ever drink.

Speaker:

Guaranteed.

Speaker:

Really it's everyone is so obsessed once, once they get it.

Speaker:

And I personally have a hard time drinking anything else.

Speaker:

I'm always carrying stuff like this around everywhere I go, you

Speaker:

know, like my own bottle of water.

Speaker:

What's, um, something that just came to mind?

Speaker:

'cause I have been to your offices and I know you have this at the office,

Speaker:

but you know, like when saying you're on the go with your big water bottle

Speaker:

and you wanna fill it up somewhere, you know, you have the filtration now

Speaker:

at like airports everywhere, which.

Speaker:

I'm guessing a good step in the, a step in the right direction, but are

Speaker:

those kinda like that single filter

Speaker:

any water filtration system, it's very important that they've been

Speaker:

independently tested to remove contaminants for the lifetime of

Speaker:

their filters, and that is called.

Speaker:

NSF, like being tested to NSF standards.

Speaker:

And so there are many different NSF standards.

Speaker:

AquaTru, I believe we have four of them.

Speaker:

Most companies maybe only just have one or two.

Speaker:

Um, the one primary one is just to remove lead chlorine and make it taste better.

Speaker:

So when you're looking at.

Speaker:

These picture filters or these industrial professional filters, most of them are

Speaker:

only, um, have the one NSF standard to remove lead and chlorine, but not all

Speaker:

the other things like microplastics, forever, chemicals, all these other

Speaker:

things that we're worried about.

Speaker:

And so AquaTru, we've developed a pro series line.

Speaker:

We have bottle filling stations that are, they're really the.

Speaker:

Only filters that are certified to NSF standards to remove 84 contaminants.

Speaker:

We are very proud of this because there are so much kind of misinformation

Speaker:

out there in the water Purifications.

Speaker:

Base and we challenge people that are out there selling these bottle

Speaker:

filling stations to get the testing, you know, like invest in the NSF

Speaker:

certifications because people have the right to know that when they're going

Speaker:

in an airport and they're filling up their water bottle, that, that, those.

Speaker:

That water filtration is certified NSF standards to remove something, anything.

Speaker:

And also just, you know, like people just think it's pure and it's not.

Speaker:

There's a lot of hazing going on in the water purification business.

Speaker:

A lot of people say like, tested.

Speaker:

You know, by NSF, um, or tested to, just because it's tested doesn't mean

Speaker:

it's certified or passed anything.

Speaker:

And a lot of people, say it's certified to NSF standards and it might only

Speaker:

be for one or two contaminants.

Speaker:

And so there's a lot of like fake claims in the water business.

Speaker:

Any company that has really done.

Speaker:

Extensive third party testing will post the result and

Speaker:

you'll see the reduction rates.

Speaker:

And so like on the AquaTru site you could see that we're certified to NSF standards

Speaker:

to remove 84 contaminants for our at home units and for our professional units.

Speaker:

And so really excited to get these in yoga studios, schools, airports.

Speaker:

Um, can't wait.

Speaker:

And I'm sure you guys will start to see AquaTru out there more and more because

Speaker:

we're really getting a lot of traction.

Speaker:

I love it.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I want to see it in more places.

Speaker:

'cause it's great to see these bottle filter, you know, like it's good to have.

Speaker:

And hotels, I'm starting to see a trend now of like having a,

Speaker:

a machine there because it was all just plastic water bottles

Speaker:

Yeah, and that, that whole industry's kind of interesting because they like.

Speaker:

We made it so you can change your own filters.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

And there are Aqua Tru filters that everybody knows.

Speaker:

They're easy to change, you know?

Speaker:

And so we're really being a little disruptive in this industry because

Speaker:

other big professional bottle filling stations, you need to have a tech come

Speaker:

out to change the filters and maintain the machine, which can be very expensive.

Speaker:

And with Aqua Tru Pro, you can do it yourself.

Speaker:

Nice.

Speaker:

There you go.

Speaker:

Some savings there.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Awesome.

Speaker:

Um, I'm curious of like, what are some other places where the

Speaker:

wool has been put, put over the public's eyes in terms of water?

Speaker:

Like, 'cause you're, you're deep in it, you're reading the studies, you're

Speaker:

looking at all the testing, like what are the things do we need to know?

Speaker:

The government, I mean, let's just talk about like the government a

Speaker:

little bit here and, and you know, how their hands are so tied when it comes

Speaker:

to addressing the water crisis that we have here in the United States.

Speaker:

So a couple years ago there was a bipartisan bill that was passed to

Speaker:

really address our water situation.

Speaker:

I believe it was like a $55 billion bill that was going to go in and replace

Speaker:

the 12 million lead waterways we still have here in the United States and

Speaker:

also implement reverse osmosis water technology at the municipality level.

Speaker:

Um, and so they passed this bill and then they rolled back the bill, and now

Speaker:

the bill and the government are being sued by private sector and lobbied.

Speaker:

To stop this bill, and so nothing's been done, and this is the problem.

Speaker:

You know, like big corporations don't want to live under these mandates, and

Speaker:

so like the red tape in Washington DC around these big initiatives just makes

Speaker:

it impossible to get anything done.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

no one should think that the government's gonna be able to fix

Speaker:

this problem, at least in my lifetime.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

And it, that's why it's so important that we understand that there's things

Speaker:

that you can do that are affordable.

Speaker:

Like I think with AquaTru, it comes out to like 11 cents for a liter A water

Speaker:

like it is affordable to have these at home, and you can just have peace

Speaker:

of mind that your water's covered.

Speaker:

that's cool.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I mean, let's thanks for breaking down the math too, because I think that

Speaker:

puts it even to more perspective how.

Speaker:

This is in touch with, I would say most people like, just, just consider

Speaker:

this is the thing that you're always drinking, cooking with, and, and it's

Speaker:

kind of your first step of defense.

Speaker:

It feels like, you

Speaker:

I mean, really it's like a night out at a restaurant for a family.

Speaker:

Like that's the, how much like a home unit of Aqua Chew

Speaker:

will cost you, like, you know.

Speaker:

And so rather than like one night out with a family, you can invest

Speaker:

in a water purifier and um.

Speaker:

And it will last you for years and years and years and, and

Speaker:

just with filter changes.

Speaker:

And so when you put it in perspective, I think it's just a really easy

Speaker:

thing for something to implement.

Speaker:

And chu is, I mean, we are customers, we are growing and the community

Speaker:

we have around this healthy water conversation is really beautiful.

Speaker:

And so we've also saved, like over, we're probably in the 4 billion mark now of

Speaker:

single use plastic being, um, that we've.

Speaker:

Saved as a company, and so it's just a really great, it's a really great time

Speaker:

for AquaTru as a business and we're really excited to keep having this

Speaker:

really authentic water conversation and education at the company.

Speaker:

Yeah, no, it's, it's great that you guys are leading it and I know

Speaker:

that's your, your big focus there.

Speaker:

What, um, tell me about water in other parts of the house, like your shower or

Speaker:

washing your hands and all that stuff.

Speaker:

Like, I'm just curious of like the exposure side there.

Speaker:

How does that work?

Speaker:

Yeah, well, you know, by taking a shower, I think you can ingest more chlorine

Speaker:

or chloramines than you would if you drank a glasses of water, which is

Speaker:

kind of crazy when you think about it.

Speaker:

And so, and if you wouldn't, if you wouldn't drink it, like why

Speaker:

would you shower in it, I guess?

Speaker:

Is that as a message there?

Speaker:

And so we recently, we had been working on a shower filter, Joe, for.

Speaker:

Three plus years.

Speaker:

Um, and it was very important to us that we were able to offer something

Speaker:

to the public that really addressed the needs of households here in the us.

Speaker:

And so I. in different municipalities, they use different types of disinfectant.

Speaker:

60% of the country uses chlorine.

Speaker:

40% of the country use something called chloramines, which is

Speaker:

ammonia and chlorine mixed together, very nasty, super hard to remove.

Speaker:

So we, we went and we created our own proprietary technology.

Speaker:

We've been spending years on doing this to make sure that we.

Speaker:

Remove the chloramines in the water in at the shower level.

Speaker:

Why does this matter?

Speaker:

Because places like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Washington,

Speaker:

dc like all these huge cities are using chloramines as a disinfectant.

Speaker:

And so, um, you know, and chloramines can like chew through copper piping.

Speaker:

It's the last thing.

Speaker:

You wanna be showering and, and people just don't realize chloramines exist.

Speaker:

They just think chlorine.

Speaker:

It's like a branded term, kind of like Clorox, right?

Speaker:

And so, but a lot of people's houses, mine included.

Speaker:

Don't use chlorine.

Speaker:

They use chloramines.

Speaker:

And so very hard thing to remove.

Speaker:

We remove it, remove it from the drinking water.

Speaker:

We also remove it from the shower and, um, our AquaTru shower filter.

Speaker:

Um, it's really cool.

Speaker:

We're in the process of NSF testing now and we've independently tested it,

Speaker:

like we're competent that we're gonna get that certification, but we had.

Speaker:

Um, NSF resurrect their chloramine testing.

Speaker:

Um, so, ' cause it's so, we're so passionate.

Speaker:

Peter, the, the founder here was so passionate about making sure,

Speaker:

because it's just something that people don't know and we know.

Speaker:

And so the world's about to know about these nasty things called chloramines.

Speaker:

And you wanna make sure that you're moving it from your shower filter,

Speaker:

I mean, it makes sense 'cause Yeah, I, that was something that was on my mind.

Speaker:

I think immediately when I got the, the, the filtration system

Speaker:

for water, drinking water.

Speaker:

I was like, well, how about all the other places I'm using water?

Speaker:

It's like, do I really wanna be Yeah.

Speaker:

Bathing in that, or even, I don't know.

Speaker:

I'm sure there's vapors too, of all the stuff I, I don't know enough there.

Speaker:

Yeah, I have to say, you know, um, very proud of the AquaTru shower filter.

Speaker:

It's going to be a game changer in this industry, and definitely a disruptor

Speaker:

because we worked long and hard on this proprietary filter technology,

Speaker:

and it's really a beautiful experience.

Speaker:

It's also adjustable, so most shower filters aren't adjustable and

Speaker:

you can have like massage stream, like all four different things.

Speaker:

Really easy.

Speaker:

It's like a 62nd install.

Speaker:

And, um, and it really, you can tell the difference in

Speaker:

your water at the first shower.

Speaker:

Like it's

Speaker:

it's pretty magical.

Speaker:

All

Speaker:

I'll have to send you one.

Speaker:

I, my, I would love that.

Speaker:

Yeah, I definitely wanna try it out.

Speaker:

Well, let's, um, you know, with MD Lifespan, what we

Speaker:

talk about a lot here is.

Speaker:

The detox side, you know, and, and I remember I wrote this down 'cause you

Speaker:

like retox to detox that whole thing.

Speaker:

So, you know, um, I don't know how familiar you are with the therapeutic

Speaker:

plasma exchange concept and Yeah.

Speaker:

So we talk a lot about, that's, that's obviously what Dr.

Speaker:

Savage does, MD lifespan and.

Speaker:

So that's why, you know, essentially why it's so important

Speaker:

to fix your water problem.

Speaker:

Because I just keep thinking of like, yeah, why would you go through all

Speaker:

these detox protocols and, and things when you're just going to re detox?

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

So, I don't know, have you, do you, have you worked with, uh,

Speaker:

people on the detox protocol?

Speaker:

What, what are your thoughts?

Speaker:

And

Speaker:

just talk about setting your body up for success with any detox.

Speaker:

And so this, this pure water piece is foundational because if you're not,

Speaker:

if your cells aren't, um, like if they're, if they're not filled with

Speaker:

this pure water, you're not even.

Speaker:

You, the, the, you're not even gonna, your detox isn't even gonna really gonna

Speaker:

work, and your body's really not gonna be in a place where it's available to really

Speaker:

absorb this detox, have it work correctly.

Speaker:

So I always say that when it comes to kind of foundational health,

Speaker:

if you're really trying to go on a health journey, pure water.

Speaker:

Pure air are two basic foundations that you need at the cellular level,

Speaker:

and it's just such box that's really easy to check, that you should check.

Speaker:

Then you know that whatever you stack on top of it, like whatever supplements

Speaker:

you're taking, detox protocols you're going through, you're actually like

Speaker:

ready to embark on that journey and have it be the most successful.

Speaker:

And so.

Speaker:

I think that, um, I think that people forget about it.

Speaker:

It's like we take air and water for granted and it's, um, it's just

Speaker:

such a super important part of any, the start of any health regimen.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

And that's where Dr. Savage is always saying, you know, it's your home.

Speaker:

That's the most toxic place.

Speaker:

And yeah, I mean, air and water are probably the two basic thing.

Speaker:

I mean, I have a, I actually need to get another air filter in here, but like we

Speaker:

have a air doctor as well and love it.

Speaker:

And it's that thing, it's, it's wild when this things kick on.

Speaker:

You are like, oh yeah, I just blew it a candle, for instance.

Speaker:

And it's just like.

Speaker:

I mean, you.

Speaker:

You either have a filter or you are a filter, right?

Speaker:

And it goes both ways for water and for air.

Speaker:

And so your body is working overtime to try and purify and

Speaker:

detox all these contaminants that you're putting in your system.

Speaker:

And you know the difference between air and water, I mean.

Speaker:

Like we are ingesting so much water.

Speaker:

And so it's super key to make sure it's pure as possible, especially if

Speaker:

you're going on a detox pro protocol, because you know, at the end of the

Speaker:

day, if you still don't feel good, it might not be the detox, it might

Speaker:

just be that you're ret detoxing.

Speaker:

And

Speaker:

Hmm.

Speaker:

really, really important with any, anybody that's concerned about their

Speaker:

health, um, any chronic inflammation.

Speaker:

Any sort of, you know, immune challenges, like anything that people are going

Speaker:

through, first thing that you should address is your water and your air.

Speaker:

Like I had a period in my life where I was really unhealthy and I had to really take

Speaker:

a good look at the talk, my toxic burden.

Speaker:

And that's one of the reasons I'm really passionate about having this conversation

Speaker:

is because like I myself had, I was like.

Speaker:

42, 43 years old, I had severe osteoporosis, like

Speaker:

my bones were crumbling.

Speaker:

And I called Peter up, you know, and he was like, you have to purify

Speaker:

your water and purify your air.

Speaker:

And here, you know, now, you know, eight or nine years later, I work here and I'm

Speaker:

carrying this message forward because, you know, it's able, you can get healthy

Speaker:

and you can reduce your toxic burden.

Speaker:

And once you do, you'll never wanna go the other way.

Speaker:

Trust me.

Speaker:

That's for sure.

Speaker:

Thanks for sharing that, by the way.

Speaker:

A little personal background.

Speaker:

Well, let's end on this note, which is, um, I'm always kinda curious,

Speaker:

like, what do you, what are you personally Helen hopeful for in,

Speaker:

let's say in the water space?

Speaker:

I mean, you're doing some awesome things.

Speaker:

With, uh, you know, um, Ideal Living as a company, but I'm thinking as a

Speaker:

whole too, you know, just society and

Speaker:

I just would love for this to be.

Speaker:

The standard.

Speaker:

You know, like my dream for AquaTru is that first of all, like when you go into

Speaker:

restaurants, you'll see, you know, water purified by AquaTru, that we become

Speaker:

peace of mind everywhere people go, people, children's schools, restaurants.

Speaker:

You go to gyms that you work out in.

Speaker:

You know, just making sure that people like associate the name AquaTru with.

Speaker:

Purity is really important to me and because we really invest so much in our

Speaker:

testing and to make sure that things really like deliver on our promise.

Speaker:

And I also think that.

Speaker:

Just the people know.

Speaker:

I think that awareness is key.

Speaker:

I'm big on education, you know that.

Speaker:

And it doesn't have to be complicated, you know, I think that, you know,

Speaker:

just running your ewg.org report is a very great place to start.

Speaker:

It was really my aha moment, and I think it will be like anybody who's listening

Speaker:

today, run your report, see what it says, and then take steps from there.

Speaker:

Yeah, definitely investigate.

Speaker:

If you don't know anything, use your favorite maybe AI tool or something

Speaker:

to investigate what does this mean?

Speaker:

Like what does this really long acid that's in my water that I've

Speaker:

never heard of before, but happens to be, in my case, 362 times the,

Speaker:

uh, got like just wild stats.

Speaker:

So yeah.

Speaker:

I.

Speaker:

pronounce it, you probably shouldn't be drinking it.

Speaker:

That's the truth.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

And the, the fact that you said, uh, rocket fuel earlier

Speaker:

is still, I'm like rocket

Speaker:

No, I mean, let's double click on that because I think people don't realize that

Speaker:

there's the things that come up on the EWG report, and then there's things that

Speaker:

don't because they don't test for them.

Speaker:

Things like antibiotics, birth control, antidepressants, there's.

Speaker:

All these things in our, in our drinking water.

Speaker:

And so, you know, no one wants to be with the issues that we're having in this

Speaker:

country with fertility, um, you know, we're so susceptible for disease now and

Speaker:

illness

Speaker:

like

Speaker:

w.

Speaker:

Yeah, so we don't wanna have any of these like pharmaceuticals in our water.

Speaker:

Our children, like, you don't wanna be giving our children

Speaker:

pharmaceutical laden water.

Speaker:

So I think it's really important that we can, we can remove it.

Speaker:

And so, and it's easy to do.

Speaker:

So check out AquaTru, we have something that works for every family and so

Speaker:

really we're so proud of the line.

Speaker:

And if you have any questions, you can always hit me up.

Speaker:

Awesome.

Speaker:

All right, Helen, this is great.

Speaker:

Thanks for going deep down the water rabbit hole and uh, yeah,

Speaker:

we'll link everything else that you mentioned, the show notes description.

Speaker:

So

Speaker:

appreciate your time.

Speaker:

Thanks Joe.

Speaker:

You got it.
