Barb and Ted welcome Tom Fitzgerald to Ted Speaks in today’s episode. Tom holds a BA in Personnel Administration Management from MSU and a Master of Science in Organizational Behavior and Management from Silver Lake College, with a minor in Training and Development. He started his management career as a foundry line supervisor, rose in the ranks to become a plant manager, and retired as a human resources health and safety manager, before starting his own company - Safety Ftz, LLC. His company is devoted to building safety cultures and giving employers and employees the tools to keep each other safe through teamwork and employee engagement. He is also an OSHA Outreach Instructor for general industry.
Tom talks about how he got into the business, changes that he’s seen in the health and safety field over the past 50 years, advice for people just entering the safety field, and differences in working with various sizes of companies. He explains the niche Safety Fitz fills in working with companies such as figuring out what needs to happen to make sure there are no fatalities, creating good safety cultures, and working through the OSHA citation process.
Safety and quality are very similar. When we can learn from others, it can only make us better in safety.
