Speaker:

Happy Monday, everybody.

2

:

We're a Monday.

3

:

We're back.

4

:

Yes, we are.

5

:

Another episode of the

daily Bible podcast.

6

:

And I know you've been waiting, you've

been sitting on pins and needles,

7

:

just waiting for us to come back

with another episode you missed us.

8

:

Yes, I hope they did.

9

:

I hope so too.

10

:

On behalf of our entire audience.

11

:

We did miss y'all.

12

:

We did.

13

:

We missed you.

14

:

Yeah.

15

:

Yeah.

16

:

Uh, Hey, real quick.

17

:

I met to hit this yesterday and I

forgot, but, uh, the, the discovery

18

:

of Nineveh is a YouTube video.

19

:

Um, from our friends over at the

X, at expedition Bible that I've

20

:

referenced a couple of times.

21

:

So.

22

:

Ah, I'd like to think so.

23

:

I think it will be in eternity with them.

24

:

So I'm, I'm.

25

:

It's the Royal we in

application again here.

26

:

Uh, you didn't, they.

27

:

Not yet, but, um, anyways, Uh, the, the

video is called Bible evidence unearth

28

:

at Nineveh, and it's by expedition Bible.

29

:

It's going to give you a good picture

and understanding of the history of

30

:

Nineveh and some of the archeology of it.

31

:

You're going to see what

it looks like today.

32

:

Super cool video worth your

time to go over there in.

33

:

Concert with, uh, Jonah, but not just

Jonah, but also helping you to understand

34

:

a little bit more of a Syria, because

we're going to be reading a lot more

35

:

about, uh, Syria in the days to come.

36

:

So that's hopefully helpful for you.

37

:

Yeah, that's rotten.

38

:

How's your weekend.

39

:

Do good.

40

:

It was great.

41

:

That's good.

42

:

I'm glad to hear that.

43

:

Talk about that.

44

:

No, we didn't.

45

:

You preached that men's Bible study.

46

:

On self control faithfulness.

47

:

You were at self-control.

48

:

Illness.

49

:

So pastor PJ is preaching from,

for me in men's Bible study,

50

:

we're doing fruit of the spirit.

51

:

And he's got faithfulness.

52

:

And so he chooses first

grade, the chapter nine.

53

:

Uh, our Paul talks about

he disciplines himself.

54

:

He's not one beating the air.

55

:

He disciplines his body.

56

:

He keeps it under control.

57

:

I think he said the word discipline,

like 17 times in that text.

58

:

And then the, and then at the end

of the sermon, those good sermon

59

:

is a great sermon, by the way.

60

:

It was about faithfulness, but

it was more about self control.

61

:

In fact, I think your title was

like the discipline of faithfulness.

62

:

Yeah.

63

:

I didn't say self-control in there.

64

:

So discipline, something like that.

65

:

I don't have any data breach.

66

:

I'm going to get when you get to sell for.

67

:

I'm going to copy and paste

it and see if anybody notices.

68

:

I just

69

:

change the text a little bit and should

play the audio and just mouth watermelon

70

:

cantaloupe the whole time up there and

see if anybody recognizes what's going on.

71

:

Well, I apologize.

72

:

It's not going to, it's not going

to be, I'll have to do something.

73

:

There's always different

shades of that stuff.

74

:

Anyway.

75

:

In my defense.

76

:

I thought I was preaching that

message right on the heels

77

:

of my vacation last week.

78

:

So I grabbed one on faithfulness

that I had done in the past.

79

:

Okay.

80

:

You need is you need to lean on Kelly for

your schedule far more because clearly

81

:

what you, you, you accidentally put Dr.

82

:

Dr.

83

:

Zeller here this weekend, right?

84

:

He was supposed to be next weekend.

85

:

If I'm not mistaken.

86

:

No he's supposed to be this weekend

supposed to be, but you didn't, you

87

:

didn't intend it to be that way.

88

:

Right?

89

:

Did you did.

90

:

I did.

91

:

Okay.

92

:

I, I guess I'm confused then, because

I thought the intention was that you'd

93

:

be out of the pulpit two weeks in a

row, and then you come back to it.

94

:

Yeah.

95

:

In my vacation.

96

:

Got.

97

:

Yeah.

98

:

Listen, I think Kelly needs

to be more in control of your

99

:

schedule is all I'm saying.

100

:

Cause then you wrote the whole

sermon for last week or on Saturday.

101

:

We had no idea.

102

:

And it was great because I didn't.

103

:

He took the pressure off this past week.

104

:

We've got providentially used it.

105

:

I'm not going to deny that.

106

:

Yeah.

107

:

We're still on a different week.

108

:

Yeah, that's fine.

109

:

That's fair.

110

:

Whatever.

111

:

Okay.

112

:

Hey.

113

:

So 4th of July, I know it's in our

rear view mirror and it's it's already

114

:

happened, but I saw something that made

me go, man, if we had Hills or mountains

115

:

here, We should do this in Texas.

116

:

So in Alaska, On 4th of July and

part of Alaska, I don't know what

117

:

part, but I kind of want to go.

118

:

Uh, what they do on 4th of July is they

blast God bless America and or America,

119

:

the beautiful, and they launch cars that

are empty and just junkers off this cliff.

120

:

And they just, and people just

gather and watch these cars go

121

:

off the cliff and hit the ground.

122

:

I didn't know.

123

:

It was a 4th of July thing.

124

:

Yeah.

125

:

I've seen that.

126

:

Yeah.

127

:

That's amazing.

128

:

I kind of want to see it happen.

129

:

I saw.

130

:

Uh, backup Terri.

131

:

A t-shirt.

132

:

What you're doing to not go back up.

133

:

What are the best videos

in 4th of July all time.

134

:

It beats Charlie bit.

135

:

My finger, for sure.

136

:

Yeah.

137

:

Yeah.

138

:

Um, Yeah, well, good, man.

139

:

I'm glad you got a good weekend.

140

:

Yeah.

141

:

Did you have a good weekend?

142

:

Went to the Roughriders game

on Saturday night with, uh, Dr.

143

:

Zeller, before he preached,

who won, what was it?

144

:

Ah, you know, it's a, it was a

good, it was a hard fought game.

145

:

It was so hard fought that year.

146

:

It was just a toss-up what'd you guys eat?

147

:

Ah, hot docs that I'm confident.

148

:

Hot dogs.

149

:

Yeah.

150

:

And, uh, that was great.

151

:

We talked about sports

and Bible and God, and.

152

:

And the weather being hot.

153

:

Yeah.

154

:

We talked about all that and it was good.

155

:

It was a good time.

156

:

Hi.

157

:

Got home at a time.

158

:

I got home at a time that

I was able to go to sleep.

159

:

No, but then on Sunday I got to

play golf with some of the guys

160

:

from church at, in the afternoon.

161

:

So that was kind of fun too.

162

:

I'm trusting.

163

:

Uh, we went, we went to this course

called the bridges up in gunner.

164

:

Oh, so I've never played there, but some

of the guys said, Hey, do you want to go?

165

:

Uh, I got some new clubs for my birthday,

so I'll blame my battery out on that.

166

:

I hear that.

167

:

All right.

168

:

Yeah.

169

:

So that was kinda fun.

170

:

Anyways, we're trusting that if

you guys aren't catching onto

171

:

the joke, it's it's Saturday as

we're recording this right now.

172

:

So we have no idea what's

coming out this Wednesday.

173

:

The weekend was, well, you know,

That's on Saturday at two, o'clock

174

:

not a profit of the son of a

prophet, but I think it went well.

175

:

Well, let's get into the Bible.

176

:

That's a good call.

177

:

Speaking of profits.

178

:

We're not talking about profits today,

but we are talking about the Bible.

179

:

Okay.

180

:

And we were talking

about a second Kings 15.

181

:

Several Kings this time

around, we got 1, 2, 3.

182

:

4 5, 6, 7 Kings that

we're talking about today.

183

:

If, if listen.

184

:

Uh, being a king at this time.

185

:

In Judah or Israel was, it was

not a position of much security.

186

:

It was not a, you didn't want to

be, you didn't want to be that.

187

:

Not in Israel.

188

:

No.

189

:

Definitely not in Israel.

190

:

Just a little bit better.

191

:

As a writer, as a writer.

192

:

For 52 years.

193

:

Yeah.

194

:

Yeah, by the way, stick a pin in

this, because tomorrow's episode,

195

:

we're going to hit Isaiah.

196

:

Uh, and so we're not going

to get there tomorrow.

197

:

I guess it's going to be.

198

:

On Wednesday, we'll actually hit when we

get to Isaiah chapter six, it's going to

199

:

say in the year that king Uzziah died.

200

:

Second Kings 15 Azariah takes the

throne and Judah that's Yeah, it's it's

201

:

they have multiple names because they

just wanted to confuse us today in,

202

:

in our context, laughing right now.

203

:

They're like, ah, ha.

204

:

Isn't that awesome.

205

:

Um, As Ray Hughes.

206

:

Same person.

207

:

And so he takes the throne here.

208

:

Second Kings 15.

209

:

He's going to rain for 52 years.

210

:

Uh, and, and it's interesting, and this

is another situation where we're going

211

:

to get more of the story from Chronicles.

212

:

But what we read here is that

he's running for 52 years.

213

:

The high places were not taken away.

214

:

And then in verse five, all of

a sudden, the Lord touched the

215

:

king so that he was a leper.

216

:

And so here comes a leprosy on Azariah

and if we're reading this account, we

217

:

think, well, maybe it's just because

he didn't take away the high places.

218

:

But then other Kings haven't

taken away the high places either.

219

:

So why did Azariah get leprosy stay tuned

because we're going to find out why.

220

:

And our parallel account

in second Chronicles.

221

:

What in Judah or that that's as right.

222

:

And Judah.

223

:

And in Israel then, uh, you've got

Zechariah coming to the throne.

224

:

So in verse eight, eight through

12 Zechariah takes his father's

225

:

place as king of Israel.

226

:

And just like the other Israelite Kings,

he does evil in the side of the Lord.

227

:

And he's only going to rain

for six months because.

228

:

Shalom is going to assassinate them

and take the throne for himself.

229

:

This sets off kind of

a chain reaction here.

230

:

Uh, chain reaction where the, the

Israel Kings don't don't rain for

231

:

very long, in fact, uh, Shalom is

only going to rank for one month.

232

:

If you look at verses 13 through

16, and then he's assassinated

233

:

by, uh, Menachem Menachem.

234

:

I was going to take the throne.

235

:

He's going to do a little bit better.

236

:

He's going to go for 10 years.

237

:

Uh, but, but this is just a bad situation.

238

:

This is just the depravity of Israel.

239

:

Israel is in a state of

chaos at this point in time.

240

:

And there's king after king and

assassination after assassination.

241

:

Uh, but verses 17 through 22,

there you get Menachem who

242

:

rains for a little bit longer.

243

:

They're 10 years.

244

:

And, and this is where a serious

presence in Israel begins to grow.

245

:

We just talked about a Syrah

yesterday with Jonah and here we

246

:

have a Syria coming on the scene

a little bit more, and there's a.

247

:

King called pole and he's this

Assyrian king and, uh, and the, the.

248

:

King Menachem of Israel here is,

is basically required to pay a

249

:

tax to this Assyrian king in order

to keep him from attacking and

250

:

wiping out the Israelite people.

251

:

Second Kings 15, then 23 through 26.

252

:

You get Pacaya following.

253

:

is going to be there and he's going to

rain for two years and he's going to

254

:

be assassinated by Pekka and Peck is

going to take the throne for himself.

255

:

Peck is a name to remember, cause PECA

is going to get problems to Judah.

256

:

In the, not too distant future, but

Peck is going to take the throne.

257

:

He's going to ring for 20 years.

258

:

Uh, PECA verses 27 through 31 is going

to do evil again in the side of the

259

:

Lord, because he's an Israelite king.

260

:

And it's during his reign that here

you have another, again, a Syrian

261

:

king, a new one Tiglath-Pileser

comes on the scene and he's going to

262

:

continue to exercise his dominance.

263

:

The hand of a Syria is tightening around

the neck of Israel during this time.

264

:

And so they're, they're

coming on the scene.

265

:

They're exercising more

of their influence here.

266

:

Uh, he's going to take more territory.

267

:

Tiglath-Pileser is away

from the Israelites.

268

:

And in fact, he's going to, uh, Make

the conquering of the land seemed

269

:

like ultimately a foregone conclusion.

270

:

Uh, and so much like the other Israelite

Kings or that we've looked at already.

271

:

Uh, PECA is also going to be

assassinated and an end is

272

:

going to come to, to his ring.

273

:

No, we only have one working in Israel.

274

:

Right then that's it.

275

:

That's.

276

:

That's it.

277

:

The Kings of Israel have a long

lineage of failure disobeying the Lord.

278

:

And there are times when it

come to an end in 7 21, BC 7 22,

279

:

depending on how you count it.

280

:

So we're coming close to the end.

281

:

In fact, I think, uh, not

16, maybe 16 or 17 chapter.

282

:

Six.

283

:

Yeah.

284

:

Anyway, it's coming up soon.

285

:

So keep it, keep that in mind.

286

:

Uh, you've made it so far

through the Kings of Israel.

287

:

We're still gonna have a lot more to

say about the Kings of Judah, cause

288

:

they're going to carry on for some

time afterwards, but just notice

289

:

we're at the end of Israel's lineage.

290

:

Just about, so we just covered, what was

that five Kings, I think in second Kings

291

:

15 in Israel, just rapid-fire succession

assassination assassination, one range

292

:

for 20 years, one range for 10 years.

293

:

So there's 30 years built in there.

294

:

That's good.

295

:

But, but the rest were kind

of just mean mere months.

296

:

Uh, the chapter ended the verses 32

through 36 flashback to, uh, to Judah.

297

:

And now we're at the

end of Azariah is rain.

298

:

So 52 years.

299

:

Jonathan comes to the scene

and begins to rain, a Judah,

300

:

and he's gonna rain 25 years.

301

:

He's going to do what is

right in the eyes of the Lord.

302

:

And it was during Jonathan's rain here.

303

:

That Pekka and the Syrians

begin to attack Judah.

304

:

This is eventually going

to lead you to the look.

305

:

Uh, help for help from the us Syrians.

306

:

Um, and that's, that's where we're

going to turn in, in the book of Isaiah,

307

:

we're coming up to the book of Isaiah.

308

:

We're going to hit the first.

309

:

Uh, nine chapters, I think in tomorrow,

in the next day combined, uh, this,

310

:

this has a lot to do with that.

311

:

And so Isaiah 7, 3 9 specifically deals

with this conflict where we're Pekka and

312

:

the king of the Syrians come against.

313

:

Judah there.

314

:

And that's Jonathan, who is

reigning on the throne there.

315

:

Um, and then that conflict is really

going to accelerate during the reign

316

:

of Jonathan Has, and we'll get to him.

317

:

Uh, in the not too distant future here.

318

:

So another thing to point out here.

319

:

It's something you probably

already noticed, but the line

320

:

of David remains consistent.

321

:

This is, I mean, every everyone that

we've mentioned so far, and especially

322

:

after seeing the tumult in Israel, how

you have, uh, Shalane, Menachem, Pika.

323

:

The kind of, you have so many different

assassinations and so many user patients,

324

:

but in Judah, You have Don's preserved

king, the Davidic king still on the

325

:

throne, which is pretty remarkable.

326

:

It's one family.

327

:

One man's family that

maintains this entire lineage.

328

:

And of course, you know, that the, the

arrival of Jesus depends upon this line

329

:

being exactly the line that God promised.

330

:

So this is important.

331

:

This is really cool to see.

332

:

It's hard to see some of the

things that take place, but

333

:

this is important for not only.

334

:

The Israelites, but for us, for you,

and for me, this is important for us

335

:

because this is where our king comes from.

336

:

Yup.

337

:

Yup.

338

:

Second Chronicles 26, then cover

some of the same grounds, but we

339

:

get some added information that

helps us understand what happened.

340

:

Remember I talked about as a writer,

the Lord gave him leprosy, why

341

:

we're going to find that out here.

342

:

So second Chronicles, 26.

343

:

Uzziah.

344

:

Isaiah, which is again

another name for Azariah.

345

:

He he's there.

346

:

He's on the throne and like Joe Ash in

Jehoiada, uh, it was, I has Zachariah.

347

:

So remember Joe Ash had Jehoiada

and as long as Jehovah was there

348

:

on the scene, Uh, Josh was good

because he listened to them.

349

:

Well, Zaja.

350

:

Uh, similarly has Zachariah

who's the priest there.

351

:

So verse five, he, as a writer

whose eyes set himself to seek

352

:

God in the days of Zechariah, who

instructed him in the fear of God.

353

:

And as long as he sought the

Lord, God made him prosper.

354

:

So when you read that, that should

even give us a foreshadowing.

355

:

Dun dun.

356

:

That there's going to be a day.

357

:

That's going to come when he's not

going to find, follow the Lord.

358

:

And that's what we read about

in verses 16 through 23.

359

:

Verse 16, but when he was strong,

here's this downfall, he grows prideful.

360

:

Two is destruction for, he was unfaithful

to the Lord, his God, and entered

361

:

into the temple of the Lord, different

incense on the altar of incense.

362

:

This is a no go, because that

was the role of the priest.

363

:

The priest had a separate role from the

king and the two were not to co-mingle.

364

:

And so this is not okay.

365

:

Till Jesus.

366

:

Right?

367

:

So this is not okay.

368

:

So when you use, I, it goes into the

temple to burn incense that that's

369

:

against the law and that was wrong.

370

:

And so the priests stand up against him

and say, this is not going to happen.

371

:

You're not going to do this.

372

:

Verse 19, you Zaja gets

angry because of his pride.

373

:

His pride is, is offended here.

374

:

And it says he had a sensor

in his hand to burn incense.

375

:

And when he became angry with the priest,

leprosy broke out on his forehead, in

376

:

the presence of the priest, in the house

of the Lord, by the altar of incense.

377

:

This is why this is so helpful because now

we go back to our second Kings 15 context.

378

:

We know now why as Riah got leprosy.

379

:

Because of this situation

in second Chronicles, 26.

380

:

Gives us the added information

that, that helps us fill out

381

:

the picture a little bit more.

382

:

I really appreciate in

verse 15, how it says about.

383

:

Zaja that he was marvelously helped until

he became strong until he was drunk.

384

:

I think about the fact that none

of us are self-made men or women.

385

:

Nobody can stand up and say, I have made

myself, honestly, I am the man I am, or

386

:

the woman I am today because I was smart.

387

:

I was intelligent.

388

:

I made the right moves.

389

:

I chose the right family to be in.

390

:

I went to the right schools.

391

:

Every single one of us can suffer

under the same delusion that Zionist

392

:

suffers with, which is to think.

393

:

I did this it's me.

394

:

I'm responsible for the

good things that I enjoy.

395

:

Now.

396

:

It might be true that we work hard, that

we cooperate with what God is doing.

397

:

But ultimately every single

person under the planet.

398

:

In on the earth, breathing oxygen

is a product of God's grace.

399

:

He's the one who gets

the glory and the owner.

400

:

No matter how much you think you

did it by yourself, we sweat,

401

:

but it's God working through us.

402

:

And that's an important thing to

remember unless we become like him.

403

:

Deluding ourselves and thinking

that we don't need him.

404

:

In fact, this happens every day for us.

405

:

And I can prove it to you.

406

:

When you choose not to read your Bible.

407

:

Or choose to forgo prayer.

408

:

Because you've got something to do.

409

:

You're telling God, I don't

think I need you though.

410

:

I think I can do it without you.

411

:

Thank you very much.

412

:

Now we would never say that

because we're Christians and we.

413

:

We D we don't believe that at least

not in our heart of hearts, but

414

:

our actions can easily convey that.

415

:

That kind of pride or hubris is manifest

in small decisions like that on the daily.

416

:

So be aware of that.

417

:

And the little remnants of pride

that you see killed them at the

418

:

seedling level before they become full

grown weeds that destroy your life.

419

:

Like.

420

:

Yeah.

421

:

Yeah, one, one more timing note here.

422

:

Uh, Jonathan.

423

:

Uh, begins to rain.

424

:

If you'll note here in second Chronicles,

26 before the death of Isaiah, because

425

:

look at verse 21 king desire was.

426

:

Uh, leper to the day of his death and

being a leper, lived a separate house for,

427

:

he was excluded from the house of the Lord

and Jonathan, his son was over the King's

428

:

household, governing the people, the land.

429

:

Yeah.

430

:

So when we go back to

second Kings, 15 verse 32.

431

:

And it says jock and began to rain.

432

:

That was likely before the

death of his father here.

433

:

So there's, there's an overlap there

because his father was having leprosy.

434

:

Couldn't be around the people

couldn't reign, couldn't govern,

435

:

couldn't fulfill his duties.

436

:

So Jonathan, his son has to take his place

and rain alongside his, his father there.

437

:

And noticed that his father is not

buried in the tomb of the Kings.

438

:

He's buried in a field that belonged

to Kings, which means that he did not

439

:

receive the kind of Royal honor that

would have been given him because

440

:

of his condition because of his sin.

441

:

Right.

442

:

Yup.

443

:

And pride is ugly.

444

:

It is.

445

:

Yeah.

446

:

And it's an, all of us.

447

:

It is.

448

:

It is that.

449

:

Good way to guard against it though,

is to keep, bring your Bibles.

450

:

And, uh, tune in tomorrow with

us for another episode of the

451

:

daily Bible podcast, as we

get into the book of Isaiah.

452

:

Yes, please.

453

:

We'll see you guys.

454

:

Bye.
