We are bombarded everyday with messages about what we "need" in order to love ourselves or fit in. We get these messages nearly everywhere we look, and often our friends and family confirm and share these ideas with comments about their bodies, others bodies, and comments about our bodies.

This episode is part three in a three part series in which we discuss the relationship women have with their bodies, and the role that diet culture plays in that relationship.

We are so excited to introduce you to Taylor! She bravely walks us through high school and college when she developed and hid an eating disorder for several years. It became an addiction that required her to isolate herself from her loved ones. She shared her secret with a mentor that cared for her and helped her take the steps necessary to eventually get the help she needed.

The take away we got from this courageous telling of her story is that the comments that hurt Taylor the most, the comments that took her further away from self love, were the comments her closest friends and family made. This is heartbreaking to consider, and it also highlights the fact that as a community of sisterhood we have the power to change the body shame narrative we are all living with. By respecting and loving ourselves, and respecting others boundaries we can eliminate judgement and condescending comments about the bodies our loved ones live in.

We would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this topic. Do you have a similar experience? Did you get a different take away than us? Did you learn something new? Please share your insights with us at itotallyrelatepod@gmail.com or connect with us on instagram!
