In this sermon, we look at two books, James and 1 Timothy, to see how we are to use our wealth.
James is very direct in his condemnation of how the rich have been acting in order to amass wealth and spend it on their own self-indulgence. They have totally forgotten the poor and have instead been exploiting them for their own gain.
Paul speaks to Timothy directly about wealth and thus provides insight on how to properly view and relate to money. He shows us that God is the ultimate provider whether we have little or much. If we place our hope in God and his provision we are likely to be people of gratitude rather than people who resent what we don’t have.
Gratitude gives us the space to enjoy what we have and be people who live generous lives -- lives that are full of good works and hearts that are willing to share with others.
