Jesus Doesn’t Make It Easy – ‘Easy Adultery’
Adultery has become part of our entertainment. Modern media has hardened us to the pain of adultery for all parties involved; however, we’ve not spent much time on heart adultery. What will it mean to guard our hearts and minds against objectifying and marginalizing others? Jesus’ imagery is pretty drastic when he says we’d be better off with our eye gouged out than for our eye to lead us down adulterous paths. How do we guide our thoughts to keep clear of easy adultery?
This week one of our #WholeLifeTakeAways asked: What do you think about the four ways greedy sexual idolatry evidences itself- pornography, using sex selfishly, unable to be whole without it, expecting a fairytale to make you happy?’
So, what about you? We would love to hear your thoughts about sexual idolatry and whether you agree/disagree, have a completely different idea on it! Let us know by using one of the following:

Andy’s 5 Tips for Making it Harder for the Devil to Win Us to This Kind of Of Soul Damning Idolatry….
- At the very first sign that someone other than our spouse might be a better ear for us, or have more sympathy for us, or understand us better, just shelve that relationship. Take as drastic of action as plucking out an eye or cutting off a hand. End that relationship.
- If we find ourselves attracted physically or emotionally to someone other than our spouse build distance between us and them physically and emotionally. Don’t think you can stand that kind of pride can lead to a life-altering tragic fall.
- Determine that we want all the joy and fulfillment and meaning and connection and safety that comes from experiencing becoming one in this great intimacy as covenantal renewal and never from the mindset of a consumer.
- We can strengthen our connection to God that God might bring us the affirmation and fulfillment only available from him, that we might then be equipped to share with a spouse not expecting from them what only God can provide us.
- Finally, we need to talk to one another as spouses. We can talk to our spouse more. Share your thoughts. I’ve never had a couple come to discuss divorce and tell me, “We’ve got to split up we just talk together too much!
