Speaker:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: Welcome

back to season four of the

2

:

Deeply Rooted Business Podcast.

3

:

My name's Jess, your

operational expert strategist.

4

:

I know I want to call you

a marketing mastermind.

5

:

I was calling myself an operations

guru, but not vibing with that.

6

:

Ops specialist, ops mastermind,

marketing mastermind, Rachel.

7

:

Here she is.

8

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: I'm Rachel

we are so excited about this episode

9

:

while honestly going into summer.

10

:

I think there's so many things

that we can touch on, but what

11

:

we've outlined for summer.

12

:

I'm vibing with it's wild.

13

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: We

weren't supposed to record today,

14

:

but I was like, I think that it

would be cool if we recorded today.

15

:

as we open every first episode of

the season we like do an overall,

16

:

what are the energetics of summer?

17

:

And what we plan to cover

as far as this season goes.

18

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959:

you pull a card for the season?

19

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: No, but

actually I have this one right here.

20

:

I pulled this one yesterday.

21

:

This is prioritize focus on your

highest priorities and I will help

22

:

you get motivated and organized.

23

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: I

24

:

love That That is exactly

what we are trying to go into.

25

:

So, let's just get our

own personal energies.

26

:

how are you feeling going into summer?

27

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959:

so I am feeling one.

28

:

I'm feeling very energized because

my business is finally picked up.

29

:

It was a slow, slow, slow

beginning of the season.

30

:

And now it seems like there's just been

like a fire hose of new clients coming

31

:

to me, new opportunities coming to me.

32

:

And really excited about it.

33

:

But I also am very wary because I know

when I get busy, I tend to lose all of

34

:

these really great habits that I have

established for myself in the beginning.

35

:

So I was doing a really good job

at eating my protein for breakfast,

36

:

not sitting down right at my computer

first thing because my bedroom's here.

37

:

Don't walk by my computer.

38

:

Sometimes I will just stop and

start working in the morning,

39

:

especially if I have a lot going on.

40

:

I had been very consistent

in my yoga practice.

41

:

And this week I only went one time,

so fairness is the first step, and

42

:

I'm like, okay, we know that this

is your tendency when you get busy

43

:

to push out self care and neglect

, your body and your self's needs.

44

:

I don't want to do that this time.

45

:

So I want to prioritize myself

because I know when I'm prioritizing

46

:

myself, I'm showing up best for

my clients and for my business.

47

:

And I'm worth it.

48

:

my client can wait so I can eat lunch.

49

:

I can deliver something 30

minutes later so I can eat lunch.

50

:

It's not going to make a difference, but

I think in my head, it makes a difference.

51

:

So how are you feeling?

52

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: It is such

a weird energy right now, I think,

53

:

because, like you said, things are picking

up, , spring has sprung, , it was wild.

54

:

A lot of the seeds that I planted

have definitely come to fruition.

55

:

But summer to me has always

had this kind of slower,

56

:

relaxing, nourishment type energy.

57

:

And especially in my business and what

I'm seeing is, is that I'm fighting with

58

:

the reality of it and my expectations.

59

:

it.

60

:

So my expectation was I'm going to relax.

61

:

I'm going to, enjoy being

in the pool all the time.

62

:

And reality is we are busy.

63

:

We are so, so busy.

64

:

And so it's kind of this, battle of

avoiding burnout, maintaining good

65

:

habits and really trying to ensure

I don't leave myself to skip out on

66

:

one of my favorite times of the year.

67

:

, I was born in July.

68

:

Like I'm a cancer baby

through and through.

69

:

So this is like my time to shine.

70

:

And it's just, wild because I think

a lot of businesses are probably

71

:

experiencing this same thing because of

how dramatic Q1 was when it was so slow.

72

:

Slow.

73

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: And I

know too, we've talked about it.

74

:

We're like, we can't tell people no,

because we need this for our business.

75

:

And I think we can go into a discussion

about how we're trying to mitigate,

76

:

our balance, being able to enjoy

the summer because I love summer too.

77

:

I like basically live in my

parents pool all weekend.

78

:

I love being outside We're

going on vacation next week.

79

:

With the increased

demands on our business.

80

:

So one of the things that I've been

leaning into that I shared with

81

:

you, off recording was delegation.

82

:

I have brought on a designer.

83

:

I outsourced the podcast editing piece.

84

:

I've been exploring just hiring

freelancers on Fiverr when I

85

:

have little one off things to do.

86

:

So I got somebody to design a

lead magnet PDF for one of my

87

:

clients I was supposed to do.

88

:

We're outsourcing that.

89

:

I outsourced to someone to help me

with a zap that I was setting up,

90

:

but I couldn't figure out what I

could have figured it out eventually.

91

:

It's taken me like.

92

:

Much more time than they could.

93

:

So I've just definitely been exploring.

94

:

Now that I have a little extra income

coming into my business, instead of

95

:

sitting on those, , or just spending

it, which I would usually do is

96

:

investing it back in my business.

97

:

Which I love, I had a light bulb moment.

98

:

my mom works for a very successful

self made millionaire, she's been

99

:

working for him since I was a baby and

they started his company together.

100

:

She was his secretary.

101

:

And I actually got to go to his

Christmas party he was talking to

102

:

me about my business and I was asking

him for him to start his advice.

103

:

And he was like for the first couple

of years, I just invested all the money

104

:

that I was making back into my business,

back into growing the business.

105

:

And I think that was like, I don't know,

a part that I was missing for a long time.

106

:

So I was like, Oh yeah,

I had a really big month.

107

:

, let me go buy this treadmill that

I wanted or something like that.

108

:

But really after taking the profit

first mindset I think that was a big

109

:

eye opener for me is looking at your

operating expenses and my operating

110

:

expenses were super low, but I think

it was almost stalling my business

111

:

because I wasn't investing . The

right amount of money into operating

112

:

my business and helping it expand.

113

:

So it's kind of been a big shift

for me that I'm excited about.

114

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: that's an

amazing, level up kind of mentality.

115

:

Right.

116

:

Cause I think so often that freedom

of being like, I got my own money and

117

:

I can spend it on whatever I want or

like seeing an influx in certain things,

118

:

but then shifting into that CEO mindset

of no, no, no, we're here for the

119

:

sustainability for the longterm push here

and reframing that, , I'm proud of you.

120

:

That's amazing.

121

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: Right now I'm

outsourcing a funnel design for a client

122

:

and I'm like, I could have done it.

123

:

I could have made it work since I have

the money invested into this designer.

124

:

And then the hours that I would have been

doing that go try to find more clients.

125

:

And that's kind of when

you grow your business.

126

:

I don't know.

127

:

And I think I was almost scalling myself

out because I was like, get clients.

128

:

And then I was like, okay, now I'm busy.

129

:

I don't want any more clients.

130

:

So I'm not going to promote.

131

:

And it's like, but you're

132

:

always going to end up against that,

lane if you don't make the shift.

133

:

So I feel that shift and

it's exciting and scary.

134

:

And all the things

135

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yeah.

136

:

We've broken down.

137

:

The summer season into three buckets.

138

:

So avoiding burnout, cause I think

this is going to be a huge problem

139

:

for a lot of business owners as they

deal with the busyness and deal with

140

:

still wanting to enjoy the summer.

141

:

Summer and not , let it

be this fleeting moment.

142

:

we were talking also about realignment.

143

:

So what Jess was saying about

when she gets busy, her good

144

:

habits tend to just disappear.

145

:

I think that's me through and through,

except I'm not as organized as Jess.

146

:

So I'm living in chaos constantly.

147

:

And then the last one is detox.

148

:

So really being able to purge these

bad, habits and stuff from your

149

:

business and enter into the fall season

with better clarity and all of that.

150

:

So I'm excited.

151

:

What's one pillar that you're most

excited to go through in the summer?

152

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: as a systems

girly, I've really been thinking about

153

:

actually today, I'll have to pull up

my notes cause I was writing it, but

154

:

you've heard me say before, if you've

listened that systems are self care

155

:

but now I've been shifting to is

business stress is a systems problem.

156

:

So if you're stressed in your

business, there's probably.

157

:

Some systems that are lacking, and

I've really been thinking about the

158

:

different types of business stress

that we as entrepreneurs experience.

159

:

So we have financial worry is one pillar

of, business stress we experience and the

160

:

root cause of that is not having a clear.

161

:

offer and profit delivery, profit flows.

162

:

And then the other one that I think that

people experience is mental overwhelm.

163

:

And I think that's from trying to keep

everything you need to do in your head

164

:

or not having a project management tool

or a system to kind of dump out some of

165

:

that stuff and keep yourself organized.

166

:

And then the third one that I think

about, I was like pillaring these

167

:

out this morning, because I think

this is going to be a podcast, maybe

168

:

a freebie, maybe the foundations of

my whole new offer that I'm doing.

169

:

But this is what I've been thinking about

is , the third one is energetic burnout.

170

:

And that's when you're really not taking

a proactive approach to building your

171

:

business or kind of just reacting to it.

172

:

And that's where that

planning system comes in place.

173

:

So I'm really excited just

to explore the difference.

174

:

Versions of entrepreneurial stress.

175

:

What are the root causes of them?

176

:

And then what systems you can

implement to help mitigate that

177

:

so that you can build a peaceful.

178

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: I love that.

179

:

I'm so excited to be a part

of the journey with you

180

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959:

I like how you're laughing.

181

:

I'm like my new offer,

it's all been the same.

182

:

Like the thing here is I still can't say

that I have this one, signature offer.

183

:

And I know that that's going to make

my business so much simplified, but I

184

:

think the manifestor generator in me

is trying to weave it all together.

185

:

And like, In a way that makes sense and

I do it for clients when I'm working with

186

:

them, but it's like hard to explain and so

like they start to go through it actually

187

:

one of my new retainer clients this

week gave me the most great feedback.

188

:

It was something like,

189

:

before you were in my business, I could

not see a way to do this sustainably.

190

:

I didn't even want to do it.

191

:

And now, , since you've been working in

my business, , I can finally , see the

192

:

light that like, I am going to be able to

, build my business in a sustainable way.

193

:

And I was like, that is

like, That is my goal.

194

:

I have like chills.

195

:

I have literally goosebumps.

196

:

That is my goal.

197

:

And can you write that down

or box it to me, please?

198

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yes.

199

:

Capture that testimonial.

200

:

Oh my gosh.

201

:

Yeah, I think that that is, it's

so funny because every time you

202

:

do mention a new offer, I do laugh

because it's all the same offer.

203

:

I think it's just making you feel most

comfortable that it's as inclusive

204

:

of everything you know, that needs

to go into people's systems, which in

205

:

reality, Systems are so complex just

even existing in Jess's space has made

206

:

me see systems in such a different way.

207

:

And so, yeah, I mean, it's wild, but

when Jess delivers, I'm obviously

208

:

speaking to the audience here, not

talking about Jess in third person.

209

:

When Jess delivers, we're

currently working through a

210

:

launch project right now together.

211

:

And it is.

212

:

Mind blowing.

213

:

, I thought I was delivering, like, over

delivering, but what Jess does in this

214

:

space, everybody hire her, please.

215

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: I

like box three, which I'm like,

216

:

I don't want to over deliver.

217

:

Cause I think sometimes my over

deliver tends to overwhelm.

218

:

That was an issue that would run

into a lot with my clients.

219

:

So a big part of me figuring

out what my new offer is, is

220

:

how to deliver it in a way.

221

:

That's not going to work.

222

:

Stress someone out in the first place

because I can go in your business.

223

:

I can see every opportunity and I

can like a bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.

224

:

Start getting it done.

225

:

But now you have to approve

everything that I just sent to you.

226

:

yeah, let's talk.

227

:

I want to hear more about you, Rachel.

228

:

How

229

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: Oh gosh.

230

:

Well, now that all my clients are brought

into the loop, this is something that I do

231

:

want to share with our listeners is that

I will be on maternity leave in September.

232

:

So we are going to be recording some

really fun episodes to fill that gap.

233

:

But it's going to be a very weird summer

in Texas, a hundred plus degrees already.

234

:

Rocking a baby bump like

it's not ideal, but,

235

:

but we're here, but which is why I've

been so busy because I am no longer taking

236

:

clients for the rest of the year after

September, I have my core clients who are

237

:

sticking with me through the end of year

that we are focusing on black Friday.

238

:

Now, because you should be thinking

about Black Friday right now and

239

:

really kind of like holding their

strategies for the rest of the year.

240

:

So I am only onboarding for 2025, which is

mind blowing that we are halfway through.

241

:

The year, but lots has been happening.

242

:

Lots has been happening

behind the scenes here.

243

:

my clients are excited and

ready to transition with me

244

:

into this new stage of life,

245

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: I'm excited

and I'm proud because I know that

246

:

navigating maternity leave and

having a baby as a solopreneur,

247

:

like you could probably do a whole

episode on that if you figure it out.

248

:

But that was, that's something that

like, it's almost like my biggest fear.

249

:

I'm like, I have no idea what I

would do, but you figure it out.

250

:

You figure it out.

251

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yeah,

yeah, it's gonna be wild, but luckily,

252

:

my husband and I both work from home,

and, he's corporate, and he has a very

253

:

easy job, I will not put him on blast

for what, who he works for, but he

254

:

is fine, that he can take care of, we

can figure out a really good schedule

255

:

to make sure that, It's all getting

handled and it won't all be on me.

256

:

And I'm very, very grateful for such

a supportive partner, but yeah, it's

257

:

going to be an interesting journey and

maybe we do some solo episodes on it, or

258

:

I can do some solo episodes on it, but

I think it's going to be fascinating.

259

:

I'm excited to see how my business

transforms in this space and

260

:

what I allow to stick around

and what I don't, you know?

261

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yeah, well, I I

think when big things like that happen,

262

:

it almost forces you to , look at your

business from a different perspective.

263

:

And it's almost like, not saying

, please don't get me pregnant universe.

264

:

But it like forces you to , do some

of those things that you may have

265

:

been just , ignoring in your business.

266

:

Because like, You have to do it.

267

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yeah.

268

:

Which I don't know if any of the listeners

remember from our winter episode,

269

:

where Jess posed a very interesting

question to me that everything was

270

:

to the everybody where it was like,

if you only had six months to double

271

:

your income and do whatever you need

to do, what channels would you do it?

272

:

What efforts would you do it?

273

:

And I have had to live that experience.

274

:

I had the most beautiful

plan outlined for:

275

:

That was like building into Q3 and

Q4 being my biggest quarters and

276

:

I've ultimately had to flip that and

prioritize as much growth in Q1, Q2.

277

:

So.

278

:

These questions that we pose are not

just rhetorical, metaphorical questions.

279

:

Like they're serious situations

that didn't know I was for myself.

280

:

Cause I think when Jess told me that I was

like, Oh, that is such a great question.

281

:

What a great way to focus.

282

:

And then it happened to me.

283

:

So they said, Oh yeah, put it to work.

284

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: All right.

285

:

Yes.

286

:

Yeah.

287

:

All right.

288

:

Is there anything else

that we need to cover

289

:

?

-:

290

:

or the topics that we have planned,

do you think that is going to be

291

:

such a good, , must listen episode?

292

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959:

Okay, so avoiding burnout.

293

:

I think business habits to avoid burnout.

294

:

I think that's going to be a really good

one because especially with a lot of

295

:

my clients, like my clients are mostly

working in the health and wellness space.

296

:

They have like really, really great,

like health and wellness habits.

297

:

So I really like the idea of pulling

that into like what business habits,

298

:

routines, rituals can you put into

your business to make sure that you

299

:

stay healthy, like on that front too.

300

:

So I'm very excited.

301

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yeah.

302

:

And then in our next pillar, the

realignment pillar, I think I'm

303

:

the most excited about, and I think

is going to be a huge must listen

304

:

just because of my experience.

305

:

And Jess's experience in this space is

really planning for that black Friday

306

:

push and that final, end of year.

307

:

Q4 type energy.

308

:

So really making sure that you have

a solid plan in place for that last

309

:

half of the year, plus your black

Friday, we're going to go into depth,

310

:

pretty detailed on, what we do for

our own clients and what we know

311

:

is a waste of time and all of that.

312

:

So it's going to be a good one.

313

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yes.

314

:

And then our last one

is detox and cleanse.

315

:

And I already went on an

Instagram rant about this, but

316

:

I'm really excited about that.

317

:

Overly hyped tools.

318

:

Which I mean, I don't know

if they're overly hyped.

319

:

It's just like when people use tools

and there's no strategy behind it,

320

:

it's just like, Oh, I'm going to

integrate that into my business because

321

:

we actually are working together with

a client right now who has really,

322

:

really integrated many chat well into

her business and it's working for her.

323

:

But I've seen it work

not too great as well.

324

:

So, talking about overly hyped tools

and how to bring a new tool into your

325

:

business and how to decide if you're

ready to invest in that tool As much

326

:

as I love technology and automations

and software I really also love a

327

:

lean and simple tech stack as well.

328

:

So kind of like vet what new tools

you're going to bring into your business

329

:

because every new tool brings another

layer of complexity into your business.

330

:

And I really just prefer to keep

things as simple as possible.

331

:

Yes.

332

:

All

333

:

rachel_1_06-21-2024_131959: Yeah, so those

are some teasers into the summer episodes

334

:

that we have to record for you guys.

335

:

And I'm super excited about it.

336

:

If you have any thoughts or ideas

of something you want to hear from

337

:

us share them in the DMS with us.

338

:

I think it'll be really exciting, but

yeah, we're kicking off season four.

339

:

It's exciting.

340

:

jess_1_06-21-2024_131959: So until

next episode, we're rooting for you.
