I want to talk about “seeds” its spring time in South Africa- a time for planting. The seed has so much to teach us of the miracles and mysteries of God. And it's messy!

Transcripts

Yeti X:

Sonny.

2

:

Bunani my friends.

3

:

Thanks for joining me on the

creative, spiritual journey podcast.

4

:

Where Ghia and I share with

you, what's on our hearts.

5

:

The joys we witnessed in

this season of our lives.

6

:

Uh, and anything else we discover

along this wonderful journey of life.

7

:

I'm Judy.

8

:

Also known as sister Cooley

here in the Durban, South Africa

9

:

mission for the church of Jesus

Christ of latter day saints.

10

:

Wow.

11

:

It's a lot of words.

12

:

I am your host for this episode.

13

:

Host is a curious word.

14

:

It makes me feel all proper.

15

:

Like I'm Julia Childs and I'm

hosting a fancy dinner party.

16

:

When actually.

17

:

I want this moment together to be

more like when a friend stops by

18

:

and you share what's on your mind.

19

:

While sitting at the kitchen counter.

20

:

I love those moments.

21

:

And I wouldn't just ask how you doing.

22

:

But rather as a real friend, I'd

ask, Hey, what's on your heart.

23

:

What keeps you awake at night?

24

:

I hope this is that kind of

space where I can share with you.

25

:

What's on my heart

26

:

In hopes that it helps you

on your journey on mission.

27

:

I've had many opportunities to

teach principles, to help change

28

:

hearts and behaviors through

the gospel of Jesus Christ.

29

:

We teach a 12 step course

for overcoming pornography.

30

:

Uh, strengthening marriage class.

31

:

And I teach a hope in Christ

healing course to women.

32

:

What I'm noticing is a common thread.

33

:

F how important it is to understand.

34

:

Change.

35

:

We all need a change of heart to

surrender our hearts to the savior.

36

:

Repentance.

37

:

Is change.

38

:

Overcoming healing and

strengthening relationships

39

:

cannot be done without change.

40

:

The kind of change that

comes from his grace.

41

:

And guess what?

42

:

This is messy stuff.

43

:

It is rough and tough on the soul.

44

:

That's what I'm witnessing

change is not for sissies.

45

:

Planting seeds for change and

nourishing and growing and becoming

46

:

someone new to bring forth.

47

:

Better fruit.

48

:

Good fruit, delicious fruit in our lives.

49

:

All of this is messy.

50

:

Seriously though.

51

:

Everyone.

52

:

Every one of us are in a

constant change, growth and

53

:

progression either for the better.

54

:

Or for the worse.

55

:

Life does not just

happen in a sterile lab.

56

:

It happens more in the dirty

sandbox, full of microbes and germs.

57

:

Right.

58

:

It's the real stuff.

59

:

I want to talk to you about seeds.

60

:

It's springtime here in South Africa.

61

:

And in fact today we just

had our first thunder storm.

62

:

It is glorious out there.

63

:

It smells like rain smells like spring.

64

:

Spring is a time for planting.

65

:

I love that Jesus compares faith.

66

:

To a seed.

67

:

Last weekend.

68

:

I was in a training meeting for

the release society presidents.

69

:

I love these sisters and we were

counseling together about what's on our

70

:

hearts and what keeps us up at night.

71

:

One sweet sister, a recent convert, and

now a newly called the relief society.

72

:

President was talking to us about her

fears and how she felt overwhelmed.

73

:

And.

74

:

I doubted that she could do this.

75

:

Yeah.

76

:

Which I thought, yeah, I get that.

77

:

Right.

78

:

We've all been there.

79

:

When another well-seasoned sister

who has been serving as president for

80

:

years told her her story was the same

that she didn't feel educated enough.

81

:

She was fearful.

82

:

Very fearful of speaking

in front of people.

83

:

And she was praying for

strength and courage.

84

:

In fact, she even said

she had fasted and prayed.

85

:

And she did say that she had always

loved gardening and she was confident

86

:

about her gardening skills and she

knew how to plant and grow a garden.

87

:

Then one night she had a dream.

88

:

And in it.

89

:

It was as if the Lord told her to

go to work in the garden to treat

90

:

these sisters as she does her garden.

91

:

She woke with new courage because

she told us she was confident

92

:

in her ability to grow a garden.

93

:

And she would just apply the same

care and love to the sisters.

94

:

she does a beautiful job.

95

:

Her branch is flourishing under her care.

96

:

Many times I have thought about

this mission is planting seeds.

97

:

Gardening.

98

:

And who knows if we'll ever be

able to see the fruits of our labor

99

:

and this side of the vineyard.

100

:

Seeds.

101

:

Fascinate me.

102

:

That within.

103

:

A tiny Appleseed.

104

:

In that tiny little shell lies

all the DNA to make up a full

105

:

grown fruit bearing apple tree.

106

:

That is miraculous.

107

:

I think of this one, I'm

planning a garden, looking at

108

:

those tiny seeds in my hand.

109

:

I admit.

110

:

I'm kind of doubtful.

111

:

This has gone to work.

112

:

Have you ever looked a beet seed?

113

:

Seriously?

114

:

That bumpy Rocky looking thing

is going to produce a beat.

115

:

This little thing can really

become anything is amazing to me.

116

:

And come harvest.

117

:

Uh, I'm proven wrong again.

118

:

Those seeds really did become the beets,

the squash, the beans, and the tomatoes.

119

:

There's also those seeds.

120

:

You know, those seats that are

created to be blown on the wind.

121

:

They fascinate me too.

122

:

They're created to have

this little parachute.

123

:

To help them fly in hopes to be

carried to fertile soil, to grow.

124

:

Like the dandy lion puffs.

125

:

Do you remember as a child making wishes

and then blowing on the dandelion puff?

126

:

Just to see its seeds scatter.

127

:

This seems to be a more

haphazard way of planting seeds.

128

:

less chance for it to land.

129

:

On real nice soil.

130

:

It'll more likely land on a Rocky

soil, or maybe not even soil at all.

131

:

is a parable that Christ

taught his disciples.

132

:

The parable of the sower.

133

:

We, we all know it well.

134

:

Yeti X-1: It is found in mark four.

135

:

Verses one through 20 and Matthew chapter

13 verses one through 23 and Luke eight.

136

:

For through 15.

137

:

the parable is There is a sower that

goes about sewing fourths seeds.

138

:

So he's scattering seeds.

139

:

And he, so some by the wayside and

the fowls came and devoured them.

140

:

Some fell on Stony places that didn't

have much earth and they began to

141

:

spring forth, but they didn't have

the deepness of the earth, the roots.

142

:

So when the sun comes

up, they're scorched.

143

:

And because they have no roots, they

wither away and some fall among thorns

144

:

and the thorns spring up and choke them.

145

:

But others fell into good

ground and brought forth fruit.

146

:

Some a hundred fold,

some 60 and some 30 fold.

147

:

I love that.

148

:

It seems.

149

:

To me.

150

:

That this gardener, our sower is just.

151

:

throwing seeds.

152

:

Or is he.

153

:

Is it possible?

154

:

This sower?

155

:

No something.

156

:

Maybe he knows a little something

about seeds and how seeds

157

:

work, the secret of seeds.

158

:

He trust the seeds.

159

:

He trusts the soil.

160

:

He trusts the sun, the shade.

161

:

The clouds.

162

:

And the rain.

163

:

Yeah.

164

:

He is participating in the process of

planning by throwing right and harvesting.

165

:

He even pays attention to

the season and gets to work.

166

:

When the time is right.

167

:

But he never is under the

illusion that he is in charge.

168

:

He knows that the growth comes from God.

169

:

We tell the missionaries here all

the time, we can plant the seed,

170

:

water, fertilize, and nourish,

but all the growth comes from God.

171

:

And the miracles that are within the seed.

172

:

There is a poem.

173

:

I used to share in my yoga

classes in the spring time.

174

:

It's written by Cynthia OCLI.

175

:

Titled the seed.

176

:

For a seed to achieve

its greatest expression.

177

:

It must come completely and done.

178

:

The shell cracks.

179

:

It's insides come out.

180

:

And every thing changes.

181

:

To someone.

182

:

Who doesn't understand growth.

183

:

It would look like a complete.

184

:

Destruction.

185

:

Isn't that powerful.

186

:

Let me repeat that again

because it's short.

187

:

But this time.

188

:

I'd like for you in your mind

to ask yourself what changes.

189

:

Our growth are you experiencing

right now in your life?

190

:

That look messy.

191

:

For a seed to achieve

its greatest expression.

192

:

It must come completely undone.

193

:

The shell cracks.

194

:

It's insides come out.

195

:

And everything changes.

196

:

To someone who doesn't understand

growth, it would look like a complete.

197

:

Destruction.

198

:

To understand growth.

199

:

We need to understand the reason.

200

:

For trials and tests and challenges.

201

:

That is the lesson of the seed.

202

:

Wherever you've been planted.

203

:

For us to realize our full potential.

204

:

We have to go through opposition.

205

:

To gain that strength as we go

through those struggles, right.

206

:

To reach for the light.

207

:

To reach for the water.

208

:

For our growth to become what God.

209

:

Created us to become.

210

:

Did you know that within

each of us, you know, this.

211

:

That within each of us is the DNA of D D.

212

:

We are seeds of deity.

213

:

every living soul is created in the image

of God, the father and God, the mother.

214

:

Yeah, we don't look or act much like them.

215

:

He.

216

:

Yet.

217

:

We look more like the little sapling,

trying to push its root into Rocky ground.

218

:

The full becoming as them.

219

:

Isn't going to be

complete in this lifetime.

220

:

But knowing this.

221

:

Maybe.

222

:

Maybe knowing this, that we are

seeds of DDT can comfort us when

223

:

we're going through the growing

pains and life feels like a disaster.

224

:

We can ask ourself.

225

:

How is this bringing growth?

226

:

What am I to learn from this?

227

:

And then hold on.

228

:

Sometimes.

229

:

Where those seeds.

230

:

They're just scattered in rough places.

231

:

maybe we feel more like the little

seed lien struggling for light.

232

:

We all will and have, if you

haven't yet we'll experience

233

:

some really messy moments.

234

:

Where like the seed,

everything is changing.

235

:

Our children's grow up.

236

:

Our bodies experienced sickness

and aging accidents happen.

237

:

Our relationships change.

238

:

Our environments change.

239

:

Our purpose change, sometimes a loved

one, even dice changing the scenery.

240

:

Some of life's lessons

will be difficult for sure.

241

:

And we may be asked to face

more than we think we can.

242

:

And certainly more than we want.

243

:

We may want to scream out why me?

244

:

Why again?

245

:

Or I can't take it anymore.

246

:

Or does God really care about me?

247

:

It's okay.

248

:

And it's even human.

249

:

To ask these questions.

250

:

I know I have.

251

:

you and I are in good company.

252

:

King David asked.

253

:

How long would the forget me?

254

:

Oh, Lord.

255

:

And the prophet Joseph Smith in Liberty

jail asked, oh God, where art thou.

256

:

Even the savior himself in

excruciating suffering on the cross.

257

:

Wondered if he too had been forsaken.

258

:

But our loving father in heaven answers.

259

:

to All these faithful souls

260

:

Be still and know that I am God and

to you and I he'll answer all our

261

:

prayers uttered in darkness of despair.

262

:

he is always and ever.

263

:

The same.

264

:

he has not left us.

265

:

We are not forgotten.

266

:

His promises are sure his

arms are always out stretched.

267

:

I even believe he knows.

268

:

And he's aware of each seed.

269

:

Us.

270

:

We're replanted.

271

:

And how we are growing.

272

:

And Elma 32.

273

:

Do you love Alma 32.

274

:

It's so full of rich.

275

:

Analogies of seeds.

276

:

In verse 28, the seed is

compared to the word of God.

277

:

No, I'm going to take some

Liberty with Elmo's words.

278

:

Now if you give place.

279

:

Make a place.

280

:

That a seed may be planted in your heart.

281

:

What kind of condition is

the soil of your heart?

282

:

And behold, if it be a true seed

or a good seed, And if you do

283

:

not cast it out by your unbelief,

Oh, the power of our thoughts.

284

:

It will be began to

swell within your breast.

285

:

And when you feel these swelling

motions, you will begin to

286

:

say, this is a good seed.

287

:

And that seed will begin to

enlighten your understanding.

288

:

It begins to be delicious to me.

289

:

Don't you love that?

290

:

It begins to enlighten my understanding.

291

:

It begins to be delicious to me.

292

:

So ask yourself.

293

:

Are you planting seeds of

fear, Or are those seeds of

294

:

the fruit of the spirit joy?

295

:

Faith seeds of love, seeds

of good works of hope of

296

:

kindness, repentance and change.

297

:

I invite you to pause and ponder

on the wonderful miracle of you.

298

:

That's within your soul.

299

:

That within your very DNA is a blueprint.

300

:

Just like the apple seed.

301

:

The blueprint of an apple tree.

302

:

Yours is a blueprint.

303

:

Of deity, your heavenly

father, your heavenly mother.

304

:

A goddess or a God in embryo.

305

:

And that might seem too

outrageous and farfetched for you.

306

:

I know some days.

307

:

I feel like.

308

:

I'm having a hard time, even being

a little bit, Christ-like my words.

309

:

Fall short.

310

:

My faith waivers.

311

:

I'm more fearful than faithful.

312

:

And I don't even think

about my brother, let alone.

313

:

Am I, his keeper.

314

:

Maybe.

315

:

some days.

316

:

I'm more like the dandy lion seed.

317

:

A weed.

318

:

This leads me to one

more lesson of the seed.

319

:

Patients.

320

:

Patients and long suffering.

321

:

Those.

322

:

Our fruits of the spirit also.

323

:

These things all take time.

324

:

eternity kind of time.

325

:

Eternal.

326

:

progression kind of time.

327

:

Thank Kevins.

328

:

We have time to keep trying.

329

:

And trying to make it right.

330

:

And I also have learned

from gardening with seeds.

331

:

not all seeds, bear

fruit at the same time.

332

:

And there's different

times to plant those seeds.

333

:

So be kind to yourself.

334

:

As you would attend her little sapling.

335

:

That's doing its best to grow and

change into that big apple tree.

336

:

Let your roots sink deep into rich soil.

337

:

And let your branches

reach high to his light.

338

:

And then lean into the messy.

339

:

Lean into the hard.

340

:

Yeti X-4: Trusting in the great creator

or heavenly father and our savior.

341

:

Jesus Christ.

342

:

And the seed, the seed that

he has planted within us.

343

:

Yeti X-1: And that seed will begin

to enlighten your understanding.

344

:

It begins to be delicious

345

:

Yeti X-4: Hey, if you know someone.

346

:

That is struggling with.

347

:

This process of changing and growing.

348

:

Um, please share this message with them.

349

:

Ah, gee, and I would

appreciate it very much.

350

:

Thanks.

351

:

My friend.

352

:

For being here.

353

:

With me on the creative,

spiritual journey.

354

:

And.

355

:

remember that's Zulu for, I love you.

356

:

And I say these things.

357

:

In the name of Jesus Christ.

358

:

The great sower.

359

:

And I will see you in the garden.
