Shownotes

On a flight from Canada to Dubai, to celebrate an early Christmas with my daughter, I started listening to the Audible version of Ed Mylett’s book; The Power of One More,

I was intrigued by his confidence that we can use a part of our own brains, known as our Reticular Activating System - for ease of conversation, known as our RAS - to fulfill the vision we have for our life.

Even before I knew of my RAS’ existence, I was leveraging the power of my RAS, as shared in a BLOG and true story of how Christmas Catalogs and wishes for a better life taught me how to create powerful vision boards.

Resource: www.VisualEncorePlan.com How to create a vision board that helps you translate your desires into a plan to have them.

Medium contributor, Tobias van Schneider wrote:

"The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a bundle of nerves at our brainstem that filters out unnecessary information, so the important stuff gets through. . .

When you look at it this way, The Law of Attraction doesn’t seem so mystical. Focus on the bad things and you will invite negativity into your life. Focus on the good things and they will come to you, because your brain is seeking them out. It’s not magic, it’s your Reticular Activating System influencing the world you see around you."

Imagine my surprise as I realized this was not the first time I heard about how the brain is a tool designed to help me get exactly what I want and I was in the audience of this TEDX Salon; Unlocking The Screen of Your Mind: WYTAYBA by Blaine Oelkers

All of this helps to explain a lot of the unexplainable in my Baby Boomer, farm girl’s life so far! The Law of Attraction isn’t just hype. It’s a powerful force I can control with conscious thinking and visioning.

Isabel:

Hello and happy almost Christmas!...

Isabel:

As I record yet another podcast episode while on vacation...

Isabel:

A bit of a working vacation, here in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Isabel:

If you listen to previous episode, you know that I am visiting my

Isabel:

daughter here for a magic 25 days...

Isabel:

November, December...

Isabel:

Was here for US Thanksgiving...

Isabel:

And I'll be back home in Canada before Christmas.

Isabel:

We are in full gear here in the desert with twinkly lights and Christmas

Isabel:

trees and stand-ins for Santa Claus...

Isabel:

And all of the above.

Isabel:

We spent the other night walking around the global village and

Isabel:

it was so festive and joyous.

Isabel:

It was just so great to see how, even though it's commercialized Christmas,

Isabel:

and it was still an observation of how the magic of Christmas wishes

Isabel:

translates everywhere in the world on children's and adult faces.

Isabel:

It was perfect timing because I had planned and published a blog last week

Isabel:

on the Encore Catalyst, called Christmas Catalogs Wishes and Vision Boards.

Isabel:

If you'd like to read it in full, just go to the EncoreCatalyst.com and

Isabel:

I'll put the link in the show notes.

Isabel:

But it's a story, a true story based on my life experience about 50 years ago, back

Isabel:

in the early 1970s as a single teen Mom...

Isabel:

Really scraping out a living for me and my little family of one and how I,

Isabel:

without understanding it at the time...

Isabel:

Was setting up my early life experience and validation from vision boards.

Isabel:

I did so because I didn't have a lot for entertainment.

Isabel:

So at night, after my son was tucked in bed asleep, I would spend hours pouring

Isabel:

over the Sears Christmas wish book.

Isabel:

Now read more about that book.

Isabel:

No, that was where I first had proof that what you think about.

Isabel:

You can bring about in your life.

Isabel:

If you have a vision...

Isabel:

as the saying goes...

Isabel:

If you see it, and you believe it, you can achieve it.

Isabel:

I went on in my life many times, to improve that process, and prove again

Isabel:

and again, that it truly, truly works.

Isabel:

What I didn't learn until later in my life.

Isabel:

It wasn't just magic or my strong desire, my intense wish for a better life for

Isabel:

myself and my family, but there was some science behind how this actually works.

Isabel:

I am grateful that because I'm staying tuned into the universe,

Isabel:

and of course I always have this big positive expectation for a bigger

Isabel:

life, a life of more experience.

Isabel:

I received a reminder just recently, about why vision boards actually do work.

Isabel:

That happened on the flight from Toronto to Dubai.

Isabel:

I was listening to an audible book by Ed Mylett, a famous

Isabel:

coach and motivational speaker...

Isabel:

called...

Isabel:

The Power of One More.

Isabel:

Early on in the book, he talks about vision boards and how scientifically

Isabel:

the explanation of why they work is based on a part of our brain, a

Isabel:

collection of nerves that are called the Reticular Activating System.

Isabel:

The reticular activating system is our brain's filter.

Isabel:

I know that you get it...

Isabel:

Why We need a filter for all of the information that we

Isabel:

are being bombarded with...

Isabel:

Today and every day.

Isabel:

The RAs has a function of saving us from information overload...

Isabel:

Essentially by filtering out what is not important to us, and by giving us

Isabel:

more of what we are thinking about.

Isabel:

We've all had experiences where...

Isabel:

You weren't aware of something consciously being around you, but

Isabel:

once you've thought about it...

Isabel:

That new pair of shoes, or that blue car, or a person ... That

Isabel:

suddenly you're aware...

Isabel:

They're all around you.

Isabel:

That's because...

Isabel:

They've been there all along, but our brain wasn't giving us that feed...

Isabel:

If you will...

Isabel:

Until we said...

Isabel:

Yeah!...

Isabel:

This is important to me...

Isabel:

I want to know more about that.

Isabel:

I'll share in the show notes a link to an article on Medium...

Isabel:

That very simply and elegantly explains the brain part of RAS.

Isabel:

The more that I thought about my own life experiences with visioning and planning...

Isabel:

Not only in my personal life, but in my business life...

Isabel:

The value of having a vision, really visualizing it...

Isabel:

As to what you want, and then how you would begin to attract that to you...

Isabel:

You have to take the actions, the steps to get there, to allow it to come to you...

Isabel:

Is what they talk about in the Law of Attraction and The Secret.

Isabel:

It's what you're focusing on...

Isabel:

What you're thinking about...

Isabel:

You attract to you.

Isabel:

Good or bad, negative or positive...

Isabel:

What you are thinking about is what will occur in your life...

Isabel:

What you will experience.

Isabel:

So if you're thinking about positive things...

Isabel:

That's what comes to you.

Isabel:

And of course, experiencing negative things in our lives is

Isabel:

an opportunity for you to say...

Isabel:

No...

Isabel:

That's not what I want...

Isabel:

This is what I want.

Isabel:

The value in a negative experience is being able to clearly

Isabel:

visualize what you want instead.

Isabel:

On this trip, I brought along my old dog-eared copy of Think

Isabel:

and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

Isabel:

Even though that book was published back in the 1930s...

Isabel:

It continues to sell like a bestseller today.

Isabel:

Leaders and important people around the world refer still to

Isabel:

Napoleon Hill's wisdom and how he laid out the characteristics, the

Isabel:

behaviors, the success principles of major people in history...

Isabel:

And it still works today.

Isabel:

At its simplest level, Think and Grow Rich is talking about visualization.

Isabel:

That's the secret.

Isabel:

It's what you are thinking about is what you bring about in your life.

Isabel:

I was also delighted...

Isabel:

Because I'm now thinking about the Reticular Activating System...

Isabel:

how that really reinforces the importance of being conscious of my thoughts.

Isabel:

I came across a TED talk, and I laughed when I started to watch it and realized...

Isabel:

This wasn't new.

Isabel:

I was actually present in the audience when that talk

Isabel:

was given in Arizona in 2017.

Isabel:

How impressed and amazed I was...

Isabel:

That the speaker, the presenter, Blaine Oelkers...

Isabel:

I don't know if I pronounced his name correctly...

Isabel:

Oelkers...

Isabel:

Not only talked about vision boards, and talked about the

Isabel:

Reticular Activating System, but he had a fabulous acronym for it...

Isabel:

called WYTAYBA...

Isabel:

What you think about, you bring about.

Isabel:

Such a great talk...

Isabel:

I'm going to link to his YouTube of that talk, so that you can play it

Isabel:

for yourself and experience how that really is a powerful tool to use when

Isabel:

you are thinking about what you want, what your vision is for your life.

Isabel:

I'm so delighted that the universe brought that back into my consciousness, even

Isabel:

though I'd forgotten entirely about it.

Isabel:

So, as a Baby Boomer...

Isabel:

And to all generations...

Isabel:

If I could give you a gift a early Christmas gift...

Isabel:

The gift that will definitely keep on giving.

Isabel:

I would like to give you this awareness that our thoughts are so

Isabel:

powerful and they are ours to control.

Isabel:

Along with that little piece in our brain, along with the fact that we know...

Isabel:

We think and we learn in pictures...

Isabel:

And if you create a Visual Encore Plan...

Isabel:

Whether it's using my process, the Visual Encore Plan, or whether

Isabel:

it's using another methodology...

Isabel:

It's more than just cutting out random pictures from magazines...

Isabel:

But thoughtfully...

Isabel:

Helps you think about what you want to bring about.

Isabel:

Then you keep it vivid, and visible, every day...

Isabel:

and move toward that vision...

Isabel:

And you'll be creating your legacy, you'll be living your legacy, and

Isabel:

you'll be enjoying your legacy!

Isabel:

I can't think of a better gift than that.

Isabel:

I am so glad to be tuning in to this again for myself.

Isabel:

It gives me great joy to share this with you.

Isabel:

I hope that your wishes are vivid and visual.

Isabel:

Stay tuned for more!
