Speaker:

Welcome to 12-Minute Converse with Jesus Believers.

Speaker:

God chose first to have a conversation with us, his creation.

Speaker:

Our prayer is that this listening space brings growth and transforms your life forever.

Speaker:

Praise God for you Darcy, it's a great pleasure to connect with you.

Speaker:

What part of the world are you in today?

Speaker:

I am in northwest Florida in the Panhandle in the Pensacola area.

Speaker:

The shared career experience is that of you being a nurse.

Speaker:

My wife is a nurse and of course once a nurse always a nurse.

Speaker:

So please tell me what has your journey been like as a nurse?

Speaker:

I went you know straight into college and ended up going into nursing school.

Speaker:

Wasn't really sure that that was my plan but just really wasn't sure what to do and so that's where I landed and now it's been over 30 years.

Speaker:

I started out in pediatrics and worked in a lot of different areas.

Speaker:

Then I moved into the mental health area arena, psychiatric hospitals and that's kind of where I just landed in leadership.

Speaker:

I really had some wonderful nurse leaders who took me under their wing and mentored me and just kind of grew in that role and then I was blessed to take about six years off.

Speaker:

We have four children and so when they were little I stayed home for about six years and then I started back working probably 10-12 years ago and back to mental health.

Speaker:

You know just working in patient psychiatric units and then working through leadership in that and then probably about a year ago I've been prompting my heart for quite some time to take a break and so for the last year I have not been working.

Speaker:

I'm taking a pause in my career and just kind of open-handedly and asking the Lord what's next.

Speaker:

Did God tell you you should leave the first time?

Speaker:

I believe yes over the last few years he has been giving me some promptings and it did take me quite some time before I was willing to jump so to speak.

Speaker:

Sometimes he does that right?

Speaker:

It takes us a while.

Speaker:

How did you come to meet Jesus?

Speaker:

I grew up in the church.

Speaker:

I lived in a very split home.

Speaker:

My dad was not a Christian.

Speaker:

In fact he would have told you that he was a self-professed heathen and proud of it and my mother before when she was in her early 20s early married someone told her about Jesus because she did not grow up in church either and I'm just so thankful for that.

Speaker:

She raised me in the church so at a very young age I knew Jesus and loved Jesus and so he's just been my heart.

Speaker:

Now my journey has not always been close to Jesus.

Speaker:

My dad died in high school and I definitely took a different path away from God.

Speaker:

I just did not want to serve him anymore and spent a lot of years kind of like the prodigal child out there in the wilderness and you realize kind of you're on the path to self-destruction and you know God just weaves you back.

Speaker:

I'm so thankful for that that he just weaved me back and just been following him ever since.

Speaker:

You mentioned your husband who continued to work all through the years.

Speaker:

What is his relationship like with Christ?

Speaker:

Yes, he's a believer also.

Speaker:

He grew up he is was the son of a pastor so he grew up in the church also for a lot of years in different ways.

Speaker:

I would say the early years of our marriage neither one of us were serving Christ and so but through the years when we started our family God really brought us back into relationship with him into church and just raising our family in the hopes to love Jesus.

Speaker:

What are you most focused on from a biblical perspective currently?

Speaker:

I think what I'm focused on right now is just resting in God.

Speaker:

So much of my life has been especially career-wise a lot of productivity a lot of getting your value from what you produce and what you do or what you've done.

Speaker:

And so just kind of this time that I'm in right now this season has given me time to just step back and go what does it really look like just to rest in Jesus and just you know lean into him and not so much about all the doing.

Speaker:

How long have you been married now?

Speaker:

We are coming up in a few weeks on 35 years.

Speaker:

Wow!

Speaker:

So you're a June braid.

Speaker:

Yes, I am June 8th.

Speaker:

Yes, it's coming up very quickly 35 years.

Speaker:

Does it feel like 35 years?

Speaker:

Some days yes but other days you can hardly believe the time has gone by.

Speaker:

We were just talking about that like I just can't believe the years and where they've gone.

Speaker:

You know, but you know God has been so faithful to us and I think what we've done each day is just we just keep saying I do to one another.

Speaker:

Even on the days we don't kind of like each other.

Speaker:

Walk me through the journey of the children and what was that like?

Speaker:

Okay, so we have four children and so our kids are all three and a half to four years apart.

Speaker:

So our oldest is about to turn 30 in June and our youngest is 17.

Speaker:

So we have two that are out of the house.

Speaker:

One is married and so we have a sweet daughter-in-law and then we have two that are still at home.

Speaker:

One is you know young adult college age and the other one is a junior in high school.

Speaker:

So finishing up and then senior year and he'll be dual enrolled at a local college.

Speaker:

So they have kept us busy.

Speaker:

Tell me about the writing you do.

Speaker:

So you have completed a few books, right?

Speaker:

I have.

Speaker:

I have contributed to a couple books.

Speaker:

So there are several books.

Speaker:

I typically write non-fiction type devotions and so I have there's two books Al-Jira and Al-Ra and that I contributed devotions to both of those books.

Speaker:

And then Strength in the Storm is a book I contributed and have a story about that.

Speaker:

That story has about 30 stories of women who you know been through difficult things.

Speaker:

The storms look different for all of us and so you know I have a story in there also.

Speaker:

What is the meaning or the power of actively using these variations of names for God?

Speaker:

Just for us to recognize him in different ways you know because he's all things.

Speaker:

He's our creator.

Speaker:

He's the Alpha Omega beginning and the end but he's our provider and we need to know that.

Speaker:

He's our shepherd.

Speaker:

You know there's so many names in the Bible of who he is.

Speaker:

You know he's the God who sees you know and so being able to have you know different ways that people can recognize where God is their provider in their life where has he been their shepherd in their lives and where is he their creator or where is you know all the different names.

Speaker:

There's so many.

Speaker:

So I think that's just important for people to know that our relationship with Christ comes in a lot of different ways because he's everything to us.

Speaker:

I imagine you listening to this five years from today.

Speaker:

What is a message you'd leave for future you?

Speaker:

I think my message to future me would just be keep following Jesus.

Speaker:

Just rest in him.

Speaker:

His purposes.

Speaker:

Know that you're loved by the creator.

Speaker:

Be open to what is ahead even if it looks differently than what you think it might.

Speaker:

Just be open to embrace that and don't need to fear that he's with me always.

Speaker:

I've enjoyed this conversation tremendously Darcy.

Speaker:

Is there any question that I could have asked that I didn't ask that would have helped you Silvers better?

Speaker:

I don't think so.

Speaker:

I think you asked a lot of great questions.

Speaker:

Thank you.

Speaker:

I can get paid.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

Darcy this is a pleasure.

Speaker:

I treasure.

Speaker:

Thank you for being on what is inspired by 12-Minute Conference.
