Speaker:

Kimi Walker here and welcome back to the next episode of the

Speaker:

Early Accountability Podcast.

Speaker:

Today our guest is Cori who is a celebrated business

Speaker:

implementation strategist.

Speaker:

She is over IROC Marketable Business Solutions, and she is an agency

Speaker:

that helps coaches, consultants, and service-based entrepreneurs

Speaker:

turn their plans into profit.

Speaker:

Cori, first off, thank you so much for being on the show.

Speaker:

Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker:

I'm just.

Speaker:

So excited for the conversation that we're gonna have, and I'm hoping that,

Speaker:

your audience gets some ideas, let the, the will start turning in their mind

Speaker:

when it comes to business, but also life.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

And so you have a great, your implementation strategist, which I love,

Speaker:

and the early accountability is not about, we turned dreamers into doers, right?

Speaker:

We're all here about action and action in the first stages.

Speaker:

So tell us how you actually started your own business.

Speaker:

Oh my gosh.

Speaker:

So this is my second business.

Speaker:

And I'm happy that this was not my first, it probably wouldn't have been

Speaker:

very successful, but I actually had no intentions of being an entrepreneur.

Speaker:

That was not something I saw for myself, but I have a really rare eye condition

Speaker:

that caused me to have to leave like the regular nine to five workforce.

Speaker:

And so I was like if I can't work a regular job, what can I do?

Speaker:

Because as we all know, bills.

Speaker:

Keep coming regardless.

Speaker:

And so I had my mom, she had a little vending type business where she would

Speaker:

go to vending events and sell things.

Speaker:

So my first business was actually me making my own like candles

Speaker:

and soaps and bath bombs and just things that make women feel great.

Speaker:

And it really let me kind.

Speaker:

I put my toe in the water for business and to see that, hey, I like this.

Speaker:

I'm pretty good at this.

Speaker:

I can sell some things.

Speaker:

But it also allowed me to see there was a gap in the market because I would

Speaker:

talk to my vendor booth neighbors and I would ask them like, how was business?

Speaker:

And I found that a lot of people were struggling.

Speaker:

To really have profitable, sustainable businesses.

Speaker:

And so that's why I started IROC Marketable Business Solutions because

Speaker:

I said, there are lots of people out there that need support, who

Speaker:

need done-for-you services, who need help implementing accountability

Speaker:

strategy systems automation.

Speaker:

And so that's how this business was formed.

Speaker:

And I was thrust into entrepreneurship.

Speaker:

But I do love it.

Speaker:

I'm thankful that I was put into this place because I've been able to

Speaker:

help so many people over the years.

Speaker:

Okay, so you do a lot with marketing operations systems.

Speaker:

What has been the biggest, I think like roadblock you would say you see people or

Speaker:

new business owners or entrepreneurs, when you're getting ready to try to do a shift

Speaker:

or a pivot or start a new project, what's one of the biggest things when it comes

Speaker:

to actually getting unstuck and doing.

Speaker:

I think it starts with mindset.

Speaker:

Like most things in life, you really have to wrap your mind

Speaker:

around what you're trying to do, and the vision has to be clear.

Speaker:

Because when the vision is not clear within you, and especially if

Speaker:

you have a team, it's man, you're really gonna have a uphill climb.

Speaker:

There's probably gonna be a lot of stumbling block

Speaker:

blocks and things like that.

Speaker:

So I always tell people like, make sure your mind is ready.

Speaker:

Like things are gonna be difficult.

Speaker:

There may be trial and error.

Speaker:

There may be times when we gotta pivot.

Speaker:

There may be times when we just have to scrap it and start again.

Speaker:

But if we go into business, heck, if we go into life with that mentality, we

Speaker:

are more prepared to tackle things as they come and not get overwhelmed, not

Speaker:

get frustrated, not be ready to give up.

Speaker:

And so I always tell clients like, get your mindset in check

Speaker:

'cause we're about to work.

Speaker:

And if they do that, they're they seem to be a lot more successful.

Speaker:

So I know there can be a lot when you're starting to do something new

Speaker:

or do something different when it comes to like systems or project.

Speaker:

Having a team, what are some things that you like, recommend people do when they're

Speaker:

trying to start a new system or trying to be more like on top of things to be

Speaker:

able to actually implement it without like chaos or without losing your mind.

Speaker:

Yeah, that's a great question.

Speaker:

I would tell people to write it out first, right?

Speaker:

In whatever form you like.

Speaker:

Some people are like.

Speaker:

Pen and paper.

Speaker:

Some people are digital.

Speaker:

Whatever works best for you, but write it out if you have to draw

Speaker:

it out so that it makes sense and you can see how things connect.

Speaker:

A lot of times we call those like flows where you're going from one spot to

Speaker:

the next, and there are things that are needed to build the process up, whether

Speaker:

it is systems, whether it's automation.

Speaker:

Whether it is people, whether it is learning new skills, and when it's all

Speaker:

mapped out, it's a lot easier to follow.

Speaker:

And if you do have team bringing them into that process and showing them

Speaker:

like, Hey, this is the vision that I have, this is how we go from A to

Speaker:

Z, and all the places in between.

Speaker:

So if you are someone who is feeling a little stuck, feeling a little bit

Speaker:

confused or not understanding why, what you're thinking is not connecting to

Speaker:

the people who are working with you.

Speaker:

Write it out, draw it out, do whatever you need to do so that you

Speaker:

can see the vision that is in your mind so that it's easier to execute.

Speaker:

Talk to us about movement, momentum, and mastery.

Speaker:

Yeah, so look, the Three Ms. Movement, momentum, and Mastery it's actually

Speaker:

the name of our kind of project management style coaching system.

Speaker:

That we utilize with our clients.

Speaker:

And it's really for our clients to understand that there's not

Speaker:

really an end in business, right?

Speaker:

Unless you're quitting.

Speaker:

And so we tell clients like, we get that you need different things at different

Speaker:

points, and you need to realize what stage you're in so that you can get

Speaker:

the support you need at that time.

Speaker:

And when we think about business owners and they're like where am I?

Speaker:

It's you may be in a stage of just growing, right?

Speaker:

You may be in a stage of learning new things, trial and error, trying to

Speaker:

figure out who you really wanna support, how you really wanna support them.

Speaker:

But then you may be in a place where that's perfectly

Speaker:

clear, but you can't scale up.

Speaker:

You can't get to the next level.

Speaker:

Or you may have scaled and now you're just exhausted because

Speaker:

you've done all the things.

Speaker:

You need more team, you need more systems and things.

Speaker:

So we really when we talk to prospective clients or when we re connect with

Speaker:

previous clients, we sit down and say, where are you in the journey?

Speaker:

What's really.

Speaker:

What's really your struggling point?

Speaker:

Because everyone isn't the same and I don't wanna guess.

Speaker:

I'm big on I'm not gonna guess.

Speaker:

You tell me, we gonna talk about it.

Speaker:

So we talk about it and we say, where are we in the journey?

Speaker:

What do we need?

Speaker:

And then we make sure that they are put in a place where we can support them best.

Speaker:

And again, going back to that vision, understanding their vision and what

Speaker:

the next 3, 6, 9, 12 months looks like for them so we can support them.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Awesome.

Speaker:

How would someone like an entrepreneur or someone looking to, or even thinking

Speaker:

about going into entrepreneurship, how would they know if they need

Speaker:

an implementation strategist?

Speaker:

I would say take a hard look in the mirror, right?

Speaker:

Some of us know like just because you are switching to a new type of thing, right?

Speaker:

Maybe you're coming from your nine to five.

Speaker:

Maybe you've been a stay at home wife for a long time and you're transitioning.

Speaker:

Whatever the case may be, if you struggled to be accountable in that

Speaker:

position, whether it was line cook, whether it was CFO, whatever it was.

Speaker:

If you struggled with accountability for yourself, if you struggle with being

Speaker:

honest about shortcomings, if you struggle with delegation, so many things, then

Speaker:

you're probably someone who needs somebody to come in and help you implement.

Speaker:

Because most of us in business are very creative.

Speaker:

We're those thought people, and we will have all these

Speaker:

thoughts going all the time.

Speaker:

We struggle to actually get those things done.

Speaker:

That's why you have a half done project over here, half

Speaker:

done project over there, right?

Speaker:

And so I'm like, okay, if that is you and you know why?

Speaker:

Go through the whole process of, oh, let me try it and see what I can do by myself.

Speaker:

We already know, right?

Speaker:

When you were a housewife, you struggle to remember to do laundry

Speaker:

on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, right?

Speaker:

The clothes getting the wash, but they never get in the dryer.

Speaker:

If that's the case, you struggle business.

Speaker:

I'm just being honest.

Speaker:

So if you know that you need accountability, if you know that you

Speaker:

need someone to support you, or if you lack some business skills and you want

Speaker:

somebody to help draw you a roadmap, talk to an implementation specialist and see

Speaker:

what strategies they can help you with to make sure you can actually execute the

Speaker:

things that you wanna execute in business.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So you're like an implementer.

Speaker:

Yes,

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Gotcha, gotcha.

Speaker:

Got you.

Speaker:

So you're, they're coming with the vision, you're get helping 'em get it

Speaker:

done or helping them to guide themselves, get it done, or helping them with it.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So I do wanna talk about burnout.

Speaker:

So I know you've worked with a lot of entrepreneurs and it's different.

Speaker:

Everybody's busy nowadays.

Speaker:

That's the new thing.

Speaker:

Everybody's always really busy with just regular life.

Speaker:

Trying to grow and scale a business or start a new venture it can be very

Speaker:

easy to start feeling like there's always something else to be done.

Speaker:

And so turning it off, or, not just getting like where you're just

Speaker:

burning, the candle at both ends.

Speaker:

What do you recommend for burnout prevention or to put boundaries

Speaker:

in place where it is still being accountable to yourself, but also,

Speaker:

taking care of yourself as well too.

Speaker:

Yeah, I think that's such a great question because.

Speaker:

I think that burnout is just so real, especially for newer entrepreneurs

Speaker:

because a lot of times they don't have the funds to have the team.

Speaker:

They're trying to learn a lot of things while also running a business, and they're

Speaker:

basically burning the candle at both ends.

Speaker:

And so when I work with clients, something I talk about.

Speaker:

To them is, first let's just get real with what really is going on in your life.

Speaker:

And I say, audit your time.

Speaker:

So sometimes it's a week, sometimes it's two weeks.

Speaker:

Sometimes we even take a month and they will literally write down what

Speaker:

they're doing day in and day out.

Speaker:

So we can see realistically like how much time can put towards your business.

Speaker:

Sometimes it's 10 hours a month, sometimes it is 60 hours a week.

Speaker:

It just depends.

Speaker:

But when we take that honest look, it allows us, it's

Speaker:

that realistic expectation.

Speaker:

Some people are gonna.

Speaker:

Go fast, right?

Speaker:

They're going to be able to do a lot.

Speaker:

They're gonna have the funds, the support, the education, that's great for them.

Speaker:

But some of us are gonna have to go a little slower.

Speaker:

So by doing that audit, we are able to plot out this is what

Speaker:

we really have in front of us.

Speaker:

Then we can make plans, and then we can also set boundaries.

Speaker:

So if you're so used to saying yes to, yeah, I'll be the soccer

Speaker:

mom, cheerleader, whoever, like I'll support the team over here.

Speaker:

I'll help out at the church.

Speaker:

You know you're saying yes to the fundraiser drives, you're on the PTA.

Speaker:

You may have to say no to some of those things 'cause we've already looked at your

Speaker:

time and we only have this much time left.

Speaker:

Once it's full.

Speaker:

And that is, that really enables us to make sure that

Speaker:

we're not burning out so much.

Speaker:

And sometimes we gotta go back and readjust.

Speaker:

We're gonna, some people say, yeah, they'll say oh, I got this much time.

Speaker:

But then we forgot that you like to do devotionals in the morning.

Speaker:

We forgot that you gotta do more baby.

Speaker:

You got a baby that cries at night, we gotta adjust.

Speaker:

And that's something that I recommend for everyone.

Speaker:

Be okay with adjusting, be okay with pivoting.

Speaker:

'Cause that will also help you not burn out, but also stick to your boundaries

Speaker:

that you set, especially after an audit, because that's the data that tells you

Speaker:

like, Hey, this is what I gotta do.

Speaker:

This is how much time I have.

Speaker:

Awesome.
