Speaker:

Hey, happy Monday and welcome to another

episode of the daily Bible podcast.

2

:

Hey pass.

3

:

Right.

4

:

I've got a question.

5

:

I've got an answer.

6

:

You are currently double

fisting energy drinks right now.

7

:

That's not true.

8

:

What is not an energy drink.

9

:

I'm looking at two bottles.

10

:

Yes.

11

:

Both have different

colored liquid in them.

12

:

Yes, that's true.

13

:

And it's puzzled me.

14

:

And so I I've been, everybody's

asking, everybody's been asking,

15

:

nobody knows that I'm doing this.

16

:

So now.

17

:

Okay.

18

:

Now they do.

19

:

You want to know what they are?

20

:

One is alpha brain.

21

:

That's true.

22

:

Okay.

23

:

And that one's been a consistent theme

of mine for the last several years now.

24

:

I've been using it.

25

:

Do.

26

:

Did you tell everybody else what that is?

27

:

Cause.

28

:

yeah.

29

:

Um, so alpha brain is a nootropic.

30

:

It's a supplement that you can take

to help with cognitive enhancement.

31

:

So it helps with.

32

:

Processing means.

33

:

Cause I think you're going to have

to define that term from a neutral.

34

:

Rain.

35

:

It's a brain supplement of some sort.

36

:

And there's a lot of enough that

right now that some of them have

37

:

debatable efficaciousness, but

alpha brain has undergone some

38

:

double blind placebo studies that

show that there is an enhancement.

39

:

There is a, there is a.

40

:

There's a benefit to, and

the way that I noticed it is

41

:

verbal processing and memory.

42

:

Um, so if you want to go check

out their website, it's, I've

43

:

been using it for a long time.

44

:

And I use it particularly,

especially in my sermon prep in

45

:

a, my delivery of my service.

46

:

The other side is one that I've gotten

recently, um, that you introduced to

47

:

the office that is Zipfizz Zipfizz

Zipfizz, which I know one of our

48

:

friends used to use quite a bit.

49

:

Um, it was kind of his thing.

50

:

And.

51

:

I didn't really care for it at the

time, but now that I've been having

52

:

it, I feel like I noticed no, I don't

feel like I discern a difference

53

:

in my energy levels by taking it.

54

:

It's just, it's a ton of

vitamin B, a ton of vitamin B.

55

:

That's basically, what's some,

I think artificial sweetener.

56

:

I'm not sure what else is in there.

57

:

Yeah.

58

:

It does feel a little bit.

59

:

Yeah, it does fit.

60

:

It's got a little bit of kick to it.

61

:

Yup.

62

:

Zippy.

63

:

It is Zippy.

64

:

They should call it that Zipfizz.

65

:

Yep.

66

:

We should write a letter.

67

:

Okay, well, that's helpful then

that you've, uh, Uh, yeah, but that,

68

:

that you've made those distinctions.

69

:

Um, because I was concerned for you.

70

:

I was like, why is he asking.

71

:

He's got two and he's drinking

the both at the same time.

72

:

Yeah.

73

:

Don't make them though.

74

:

I knew there was a reason for it because

you never do anything accidentally.

75

:

You never like are like, well,

I don't know why I'm doing this.

76

:

And now I do.

77

:

I do.

78

:

I do like to do things on purpose.

79

:

That's kind of, I feel like

that's a Christian responsibility.

80

:

You're the intentional, your book

needs to be called life on purpose.

81

:

How about the purpose driven life now?

82

:

Yeah.

83

:

It's been done.

84

:

Um, Life on purpose.

85

:

Okay.

86

:

I'll think about that.

87

:

Okay.

88

:

Well, Hey, how about we be on

purpose with reading the Bible?

89

:

We should do that.

90

:

Every day.

91

:

Yes, we should do that

every day, including today.

92

:

And we're going to do that in first

Chronicles, 26 through 29 and someone 27.

93

:

First Chronicles 26.

94

:

Uh, there's a lot of, we talked

about this last time we were in first

95

:

Chronicles divisions in organization

and administration going on here towards

96

:

the end of David's life, as he's trying

to prepare things for his son Solomon.

97

:

So what we find in first Chronicles,

chapter 26 are the gatekeepers now.

98

:

We have gatekeepers at our church.

99

:

We do.

100

:

Yup.

101

:

The same guy, Albert

Pacino heads up that team.

102

:

That's right.

103

:

We've got a great team

of, of gatekeepers there.

104

:

Uh, not exactly the same, but

they draw their inspiration.

105

:

If I could use that word

from the same group.

106

:

Yeah.

107

:

The idea of those that are there to

provide security and keep order on

108

:

the temple Mount their inspiration

has a certain caliber to it though.

109

:

Why don't you say when you draw it?

110

:

Yeah.

111

:

Just because the threats

are different today, right?

112

:

Yeah, caliber.

113

:

Yeah.

114

:

Cause they draw right.

115

:

Yeah.

116

:

Anyway.

117

:

Eh, the, the gatekeepers here, the temple

guards, uh, basically in the first 19

118

:

verses they're arranged and organized,

besides keeping order on the temple

119

:

Mount, they would also tend to the storage

and organization of temple equipment.

120

:

Uh, and oversee the food for the priests

and sacrifices among other things.

121

:

So, uh, gatekeepers, you guys

listening to our podcast, pastor

122

:

Ron, I would like you to oversee

the food for us on Sunday morning.

123

:

That's good.

124

:

Bring us some food.

125

:

That'd be great.

126

:

Hospitality, gatekeeping.

127

:

That's right.

128

:

We're going to do that.

129

:

No, we're good.

130

:

We're good.

131

:

But.

132

:

Note in first Chronicles, 26, 8 oh bed.

133

:

Edam is listed there.

134

:

Whose house is where the arc resided.

135

:

After the death of Uzzah, he

was one of the gatekeepers.

136

:

Uh, he was part of the live vertical

family there, besides the priest

137

:

and singers and the gatekeepers.

138

:

Then there's other officials who are

important to the temple activity.

139

:

And these are listed in,

in verses 20 through 32.

140

:

There.

141

:

Uh, but the gatekeepers, just

an important group there.

142

:

In fact, uh, we've been studying in

the gospel of John when Jesus was on

143

:

the temple Mount and the Pharisees

dispatched the, uh, the, the temple

144

:

guard to go and arrest Jesus.

145

:

And they weren't able to.

146

:

Uh, we read about that.

147

:

Uh, I think back in chapter seven,

Um, that's that's who these guys were.

148

:

The gatekeepers, it all ties together.

149

:

And so we're seeing that even in

the new Testament reading and the

150

:

gospel of John, but the rest of

these officials, they included some

151

:

people like the temple treasures.

152

:

Uh, who cared for the material gifts given

to the, to the Lord and judges overseers?

153

:

Uh, To, to pertain to the

judicial matters of the people.

154

:

So this is all just, I mean,

these, these are all vignettes

155

:

of David organizing people.

156

:

He's putting people together.

157

:

He's preparing this for his son.

158

:

Who's going to take over after him.

159

:

This, I mean, at minimum, what this

shows is that God cares about the

160

:

intentionality of his people and being

thoughtful and purposeful, as we just

161

:

said a few moments ago, I think if

nothing else, what it tells me is that

162

:

God cares about the well-oiled machine.

163

:

It's like, Paul will later say that God

is not the God of chaos or disorder.

164

:

He's a God of unity is a

God of thoughtful intention.

165

:

And I think that's something

that we see here, how it applies.

166

:

I mean, it's, there's so

many broad strokes in this.

167

:

The fact that it's still here and there's

so much ink spilled on this topic, man.

168

:

There's just in my mind, I

just think, okay Lord, am I

169

:

living my life appropriately?

170

:

Is my life well ordered?

171

:

I think that's a good term.

172

:

Well ordered is my life will order.

173

:

It may not be perfect and no one's life

ever will be, but you should ask the

174

:

question as my life reflect a relationship

with the God of the universe who loves

175

:

to see things done decently and in order.

176

:

Yep.

177

:

Yep.

178

:

Chapter 27 then guess what

more organizations at this

179

:

time of the military divisions?

180

:

Uh, the, the, uh, the, the army.

181

:

And, uh, the Israel is not only

needed to be prepared and organized

182

:

for worship, but also for war.

183

:

And that's the main thrust of the

first part of chapter 27 here.

184

:

This is not a census.

185

:

Okay.

186

:

So this is not the same thing.

187

:

This is.

188

:

Making sure that everybody

was grouped together.

189

:

They had their leaders that knew who was

supposed to be on duty versus off duty.

190

:

Uh, that's one through 15 is the

account of Israel's army by divisions.

191

:

And then while not at war, each

of those divisions would rotate.

192

:

On a monthly basis to guard the temple.

193

:

And so they, they would be there

in addition to the gatekeepers to

194

:

provide security for the temple

to make sure nobody would come in

195

:

and attack the temple Mount there.

196

:

So, um, you see the, the

military divisions there.

197

:

Uh, verses 16 through 22, then

list the leaders of the tribes.

198

:

And yet there's two that

aren't included here.

199

:

There's two that aren't included here.

200

:

Uh, you're going to notice that if you're

looking for the leaders of GAD, And

201

:

Asher, you're not going to find them.

202

:

Uh, there are 12 liter still

because Erin is given a specific.

203

:

Leader or his family has given a specific,

uh, leader over his head household,

204

:

even though he's not a separate tribe.

205

:

And then also the half tribe

of Manasseh gets two liters.

206

:

So we still have 12 liters even

though GAD and Asher aren't included.

207

:

So the question is why aren't Gatton,

Asher included in honestly, uh, the

208

:

commentaries that I looked up on

on this one, I'm curious to see if

209

:

you found anything different pastor

rod, but the majority of them kind

210

:

of just shrugged their shoulders.

211

:

And they said, you know, we're not sure.

212

:

There seems to be a little bit

of an arbitrary nature to the,

213

:

the inclusion of the 12 tribes.

214

:

Sometimes some are left out, sometimes

some are included, but the number 12 is

215

:

always the same number, no matter what.

216

:

And so th there's there was not

a whole lot of clarity as to why.

217

:

Uh, GAD and Asher aren't

included here in this list.

218

:

There's always questions about the tribes.

219

:

Sometimes it's there, there's a

bit of a chin scratcher throughout

220

:

scripture when it comes to who's

included and who's not again.

221

:

At the end of the book of revelation,

I think the tribe of Dan is missing.

222

:

How does that happen?

223

:

Maybe because they fell out,

they were, they were disciplined.

224

:

It was God's judgment upon them.

225

:

Some kind of rebellion.

226

:

Uh, whatever the case, whatever

the case, we know that there's

227

:

some kind of structure behind it.

228

:

There's a scheme.

229

:

There's a thought there's an intention.

230

:

At this point, we may not be fully

clear as to what that intention is.

231

:

At least in this particular passage.

232

:

Fair.

233

:

Yeah, verse 24 chapter 27.

234

:

Notice it says job, the son of Zechariah

began to count, but did not finish yet.

235

:

Wrath came upon Israel for this.

236

:

So this is citing the census

that David had Joel take during,

237

:

uh, in the judgment in response.

238

:

And so this is, uh, uh,

uh, hat tip to that.

239

:

Uh, which we had read about last time.

240

:

We were in Chronicles in

second Samuel together.

241

:

Um, Yeah, that's a, that's

the gist of chapter 27.

242

:

They're all right.

243

:

Yeah, chapter 28, then David gathers

all the people here in the first

244

:

eight verses in announces that Solomon

is going to succeed him as the one

245

:

who's going to be king over Israel.

246

:

And who would build the temple in

Jerusalem verses six through seven?

247

:

No.

248

:

Our, uh, our rich with the language of the

Davidic covenant, he said to me, Solomon,

249

:

your central built my house in my course

for, I have chosen him to be my son.

250

:

Davidic covenant language here.

251

:

I will be as father.

252

:

I will establish his kingdom forever.

253

:

Davidic covenant language.

254

:

If he continues strong and keeping my

commandments and my rules as he is today.

255

:

So, uh, Solomon introduced us as

David's successor there in the

256

:

first eight verses of chapter 28.

257

:

Chapter 29 through 21.

258

:

Then we get David's charge to Solomon

and he charges Solomon with two things.

259

:

Number one, walking obedience to

the Lord with his whole heart.

260

:

Be fully devoted.

261

:

To a Bangalore.

262

:

I mean, that is such a good thing.

263

:

Parents for you to urge and your children

into, uh, into charge your children

264

:

with, and to say, this is good for you

to love the Lord with everything that

265

:

you have and not to depart from his ways.

266

:

So that's the first thing

that David wants to secure.

267

:

Solomon's allegiance to the Lord.

268

:

The second thing.

269

:

Is that he would build the temple.

270

:

Uh, and then he provides him

with all the plans for the temple

271

:

and finally charges him to.

272

:

Again, build boldly for the God of Israel.

273

:

David's got a first Chronicles,

28, 20 a would be with him.

274

:

And so that's a, just an encouragement.

275

:

Must've been an encouragement for Solomon

to think, man, the God of my father, the

276

:

God who enabled him, preserved him, the

God who enabled him to beat Goliath, the

277

:

God who has been with them the, all of

these years now he's going to be with me.

278

:

What a cool thought that would be.

279

:

Curious phrase that keeps on

showing up, uh, time after time

280

:

is be strong and courageous.

281

:

You see this in verse 20.

282

:

Or David says to Solomon his son,

but this, this sounds familiar to you

283

:

is because you've also heard it at

the beginning of the book of Joshua.

284

:

Where Joshua tells his people

to be strong and courageous.

285

:

God tells Joshua to be strong and

courageous, and then Joshua tells us

286

:

people to be strong and courageous.

287

:

There's something about this

phrase that just shows up in

288

:

scripture over and over again.

289

:

If you pay attention.

290

:

You'll see it all over, but

it is an interesting phrase.

291

:

Isn't it be strong and courageous as

opposed to being weak and fearful.

292

:

Um, we can intimidated and I think this

is a cool thought because God constantly

293

:

has to tell us people, Hey, stop fretting.

294

:

It's not being afraid.

295

:

Just go do the thing.

296

:

Trust that I've got this under control.

297

:

And if you really believe that you

serve a God who's sovereign and who's

298

:

omnipotent and omnipresent and omniscient.

299

:

If this is the Omni God who does all

things for his glory and for your good

300

:

man, you have nothing to be afraid of.

301

:

So long as you're not doing

something foolish and silly,

302

:

otherwise be strong and courageous.

303

:

What a good thing for you to feel

like God is telling you to do today?

304

:

First Chronicles 29, then verses one

through nine, the people follow the

305

:

lead of their king and they bring a

freewill offerings of great wealth to be

306

:

used in the construction of the temple.

307

:

There.

308

:

Uh, and so this is just a celebration

offerings for the temple or being

309

:

brought a freewill offerings.

310

:

These aren't under compulsion.

311

:

These are because the people are excited

about what God is going to do and about

312

:

getting this temple built, uh, verses

10 through 22, then David prays before

313

:

the assembly, this prayer of dedication

that, that recognizes God is the owner

314

:

and giver of all good things, including

the gifts that they had just offered

315

:

for the construction of the temple.

316

:

And that's something that we talk

about on Sunday mornings, a lot.

317

:

Uh, when we give, we're not

giving God something that he

318

:

doesn't first possess already.

319

:

What we're doing is we are

consecrating those gifts.

320

:

We are offering those things.

321

:

Uh, and seeing, what do we want you to

use these things specifically for the

322

:

purpose of the continued ministry that's

being done here at compass Bible church.

323

:

And so similarly, David is praying.

324

:

And in asking that God would,

uh, would, would, would bless the

325

:

offerings would bless the gifts

that were being brought for the

326

:

construction of the temple therein.

327

:

God owns the cattle on a thousand Hills.

328

:

He didn't need these things.

329

:

Uh, he owned all of these things, but the,

they, the people brought them to be used.

330

:

As a, an extension of worship

through the building of the place of

331

:

worship, that would be the temple.

332

:

And it's a good thing too, that God does

this because he could do it himself.

333

:

He doesn't need us, might

slow him down actually.

334

:

T to use us in part of his plans

and purposes, but instead he chooses

335

:

to say, Hey, I want you to freely

give from what I've given to you.

336

:

I want you to participate

in the work that I'm doing.

337

:

And one of the coolest things that I

see here is that David sets the example.

338

:

They follow his lead and

he's generous with God.

339

:

He gives it, here's all this wealth

and all this stuff that I've acquired.

340

:

And he lays it down at the feet of Jesus.

341

:

I love that.

342

:

Not Jesus, actually, but

that's kind of the idea here.

343

:

He's laying it down.

344

:

And St God, you're worthy

of this in so much more.

345

:

And so the people see his example

and they say, I want to do that too.

346

:

And this should remind us as

parents that our kids are watching.

347

:

And it's sometimes hard if they don't

see us transferring the digits, the

348

:

ones and zeros from our bank account

to the church account or whatever else.

349

:

It's hard.

350

:

You know, when we're writing

a check, if we still do that.

351

:

But let it be known in your

family now we're givers.

352

:

In fact, I could say we don't know

specifically who gives what I like that.

353

:

I want to keep it that way.

354

:

Yeah, but we do know that you guys

do give and that's so encouraging.

355

:

I just I'm heartened by that.

356

:

I think you guys are

doing a good job at this.

357

:

So I want to commend you for that.

358

:

But I also want you to not

hide your light under a bushel.

359

:

I don't want you to not let your family

know that if you're, if you're giving

360

:

to the church faithfully, I think it's

good for you to start teaching your kids.

361

:

Hey, we give to our church

because we love our church.

362

:

We're part of this.

363

:

We're financially invested.

364

:

Uh, and we give not only with our

finances, but with our physicality

365

:

and our service, you know, we're

hospitality or set up or tear down team

366

:

or the worship team or whatever else.

367

:

It's good to tell your kids

that you're doing this.

368

:

This is how one generation commends.

369

:

God to another, my showcasing,

his worthiness and all that we do.

370

:

Yeah.

371

:

In.

372

:

And another thing too, regarding the, the

gifts and specifically the, the offerings

373

:

that we give financially, uh, maybe

you're in a place where you're thinking.

374

:

I just mean things are tight.

375

:

What I would give right now.

376

:

It's a drop in the bucket.

377

:

Hey, listen, everything is important.

378

:

The driving thing matters.

379

:

Everything matters.

380

:

There's significance to the

every single gift that's given.

381

:

No matter what amount it may be.

382

:

You don't have to think.

383

:

Well, I have to give to this level

or to that guy's level or to this

384

:

person's level, or I have to have a

wing named after me at the compass

385

:

Bible church when they build a building.

386

:

Look.

387

:

That's not, that's not the heart.

388

:

The heart is we're, we're giving not

to people we're giving to the Lord.

389

:

And as long as we're giving

sacrificially and, and then God's

390

:

faithfully pleased with that.

391

:

Absolutely.

392

:

Absolutely.

393

:

As Jesus would come.

394

:

We think.

395

:

You could interpret it more than one

way, but when Jesus sees a widow giving

396

:

her last 2 cents to the temple, right.

397

:

He acknowledged that he noticed

how much she gave, right.

398

:

And he noticed who she was now.

399

:

There's, there's a potential

interpretation on that passage

400

:

that Jesus was upset about this.

401

:

Because it was the last 2 cents.

402

:

The widow had to live off of it.

403

:

And he had just got done saying that,

you know, the Pharisees, they consume

404

:

the widow's house, but nevertheless,

Jesus is paying attention to our giving.

405

:

And it's not the number

that matters to him.

406

:

It's the heart behind it.

407

:

Right.

408

:

That's what really matters.

409

:

I agree.

410

:

Yep.

411

:

I agree versus 23 through 25,

then Solomon is anointed king in

412

:

the chronicler provides a summary

statement of his prosperous rain.

413

:

Do the Lord's blessing on him.

414

:

So just kind of a 30,000 foot

view of, of Solomon's reign.

415

:

Um, here's the Lord

made Solomon very great.

416

:

Verse 25 in the sight of all Israel

and bestowed on him, such a Royal

417

:

majesty as had not been on any king

before him in Israel, the superlatives

418

:

around Solomon you'll note.

419

:

Those.

420

:

Uh, when we get into his

life, but Solomon is, is he's.

421

:

He stands above all the rest.

422

:

Um, and not just in the

number of wives that he had.

423

:

That's also when he went up there too.

424

:

Yeah, but to the point where Jesus says

someone greater than Solomon is here.

425

:

Solomon's like the measuring stick when

they think about who's the greatest

426

:

they think of Solomon, Jesus says

someone greater than Solomon is here.

427

:

Right.

428

:

And if you had known, oh, it's so good.

429

:

So keeping it, keeping in

mind, we're going to talk more

430

:

about him in the coming days.

431

:

And I really appreciate some of

the language that is used about his

432

:

acquisition of wisdom and all that.

433

:

It's really fun.

434

:

Can't wait to go through

that with you guys.

435

:

Yep.

436

:

Chapter 29 then versus 20, 60, 30,

just as we land a plane in first

437

:

Chronicles, before we jumped over

to someone 27, you've got the death

438

:

of David and he dies after having

reigned over Israel for 40 years.

439

:

The year of David's death was

around 9 71 BC give or take there.

440

:

So.

441

:

Uh, that's where we're at in human

history, where we are in:

442

:

So whatever the math is there,

I don't know, but it's almost.

443

:

3000 years.

444

:

Uh, give or take between when

David died and where we're at,

445

:

uh, where we're at presently.

446

:

So, uh, yeah, kind of a.

447

:

Neat too.

448

:

To put history in context there,

because sometimes we're reading

449

:

the Bible and we can forget.

450

:

Oh, this is, this happened on a timeline.

451

:

Yup.

452

:

If you took a timeline that, that the

things that we're reading about, they

453

:

would have their own spot on that timeline

because these are historical events.

454

:

And so being reminded of.

455

:

An event like the death of David and

being able to go here's the, the time that

456

:

that took place, that's helpful for us.

457

:

Indeed.

458

:

All right.

459

:

Psalm 1 27.

460

:

So I'm 1 27 is a Psalm of.

461

:

It's a song of sense.

462

:

Go ahead.

463

:

Do it.

464

:

If your microphone.

465

:

I'm not a performing monkey dog.

466

:

Okay.

467

:

It's a song of a sense,

and it's written by.

468

:

I quit.

469

:

I quit now.

470

:

You doubt it's written by Solomon.

471

:

So here's one of the first.

472

:

Songs that we find from Solomon.

473

:

I like this one too.

474

:

Yeah.

475

:

Do you like it better

than his song of songs?

476

:

Oh, I do.

477

:

I did this one.

478

:

I do.

479

:

No summon 1 27 songs, Solomon fits.

480

:

Here's a response to the charge that he'd

received from David to build the temple.

481

:

Uh, two themes of the summer

God's sovereignty over work in

482

:

God's sovereignty, over family.

483

:

It's so good because.

484

:

I think this speaks to us today.

485

:

Even though he wrote it so long, the rest

of the Bible doesn't but this one does.

486

:

Um, well, the Bible has to

fit the daily Bible podcast.

487

:

We're just going to do some 1 27 for

the rest of our lives, because that's

488

:

the only one that speaks to us today.

489

:

All scripture is equally inspired,

but not all of it is equally

490

:

relevant to our day and age.

491

:

It all has a variety of applications

and relevance to our comment is that

492

:

because sometimes you have to work, you

have to work it and say, okay, how do,

493

:

like we just talked about the temple.

494

:

Or organization.

495

:

What do we do with that?

496

:

We have to work a little bit.

497

:

This just feels immediately applicable.

498

:

Unless the Lord builds a house, those

who build it labor in vain, unless

499

:

the Lord watches over the city,

the Watchman stays awake in vain.

500

:

And you can fret about this thing or

that thing, your kid's college tuition.

501

:

It can Fred about the mortgage payment.

502

:

You can fret about your car and

you can forget about, you know,

503

:

finding a husband or a wife.

504

:

So many things are going to read about.

505

:

And you can even put in a ton of effort,

work 60 hours a week to do this or

506

:

that, and still come up with nothing

because unless the Lord builds it, unless

507

:

the Lord watches, it's all in vain.

508

:

It's in vain that you go, uh, that

you rise up early, go late to rest.

509

:

And, and this is interesting

eating the bread of anxious toil.

510

:

Um, what does that mean?

511

:

The bread of anxious toil.

512

:

Yeah.

513

:

Well, it's not satisfying.

514

:

It's not satisfying.

515

:

That's for sure, because you're always.

516

:

Worried about what's next.

517

:

And so you're not, you're not.

518

:

Enjoying the things that God has

provided, I find it fascinating.

519

:

And that it's, it seems to me that

maybe one of the things that solemn

520

:

is getting at here is that even

anxiety provides a kind of sustenance.

521

:

You can feast on an anxious anxiety.

522

:

You can feast on anxious thoughts.

523

:

It does provide a kind of sustenance.

524

:

Although what could be the

idea behind this also is that.

525

:

You're eating bread.

526

:

You you're eating the, the,

the results of your toil, but.

527

:

Contrast that he gives

to his beloved sleep.

528

:

He gives his Christians rest.

529

:

I mean, that's not who Solomon

has in mind here, obviously, but.

530

:

Christian's at arrest

and we oughta rest well.

531

:

Because God's the one

who is taking care of us.

532

:

He's the one who's making the globe spin.

533

:

You can go to bed at night, knowing the

Lord's got your kids in, in his hands.

534

:

You can go to bed at night knowing the

Lord's got your business in his hands.

535

:

He's got every single aspect of

your entire life in his hands.

536

:

It's like little children's song.

537

:

He's got the whole world

it's got the whole world is.

538

:

So now that's, that's my

favorite part of the Psalm.

539

:

But the second part of the

song, talk to us about that.

540

:

And how does that fit?

541

:

With the first part.

542

:

Yeah.

543

:

Well, Uh, building the house.

544

:

The house, if we think about

the houses, our family, right?

545

:

If we think about the house as, as our

household, our, our family, um, The

546

:

part of the load building it is, are

the, the children that he provides.

547

:

And, uh, that's where in verse four,

like arrows in the hand of a warrior

548

:

are the children of one's youth.

549

:

Blessed.

550

:

It is a man who fills

his quiver with them.

551

:

Can I suggest that has less to do with

the number of kids that you have and

552

:

more to do with your intentionality

about your children and how you

553

:

raise your children and what you

do to point them towards Christ.

554

:

And in that, the analogy here, the arrows.

555

:

What do you do with an arrow

where you don't keep the arrow

556

:

for the rest of your life?

557

:

You sign it, send it out.

558

:

Is that a full set?

559

:

So.

560

:

That's the analogy that he uses for

children, and we're trying to send our

561

:

children out, so to speak with that

direction, being towards the Lord.

562

:

Um, we want them to love the Lord,

just like we were talking about

563

:

with David's charge to Solomon.

564

:

Hey, love the Lord with

all you've got that.

565

:

That was David.

566

:

Uh, using Solomon as an arrow there.

567

:

So this is so important.

568

:

Um, And I know it's such a hard

subject to, uh, we know of, of.

569

:

I have just the difficulties of

this subject, especially with some

570

:

of the younger people that, uh,

that struggle with this area and,

571

:

and would love to have a family.

572

:

And yet God has not chosen

to, to do that at this time.

573

:

Th this does not mean that the

Lord is not building your house.

574

:

This does not mean that

that there's something.

575

:

You know that the Lord is

favors not with you with it.

576

:

The Lord is upset with you or

angry with you, or that you're a

577

:

failure or anything else like that.

578

:

This is, uh, addressing a

particular subject, uh, here

579

:

with regards to those that.

580

:

Uh, the Lord has given children

too in how they're supposed to.

581

:

Uh, go about that.

582

:

But, uh, Yeah, it's.

583

:

Having families is such

an important thing.

584

:

And if, if, just, if pastorally, if I can.

585

:

Step into this one a little bit here.

586

:

Um, I I'd like to, if you'll

give me permission to do that.

587

:

Uh, permission granted.

588

:

Yeah.

589

:

Thanks man.

590

:

Um, Listen.

591

:

The pain of struggling with infertility

is something that, that nobody

592

:

wants to take the rug and lift

it up and sweep it under and go.

593

:

Don't worry about it.

594

:

It's a real, it's felt it hurts.

595

:

And, uh, we as a church body weep

with those who weep and we come

596

:

alongside and we want to comfort.

597

:

Um, That being the case, if that is

you and you, you find yourself there.

598

:

I don't think that that means the Lord

does not want you to have a family.

599

:

I don't think that that means

the Lord does not want to make

600

:

you a mom or make you a dad.

601

:

I think there are other venues that

are, are good and helpful to pursue.

602

:

I think the, the venue of adoption and.

603

:

I know that that's often scoffed

at, um, he had, well, that's easy

604

:

for you guys to say because you

guys have kids, whatever it may be.

605

:

And I want to be sensitive to that.

606

:

And yet I also want to come back

to the reality that there are kids

607

:

that are out there that do need.

608

:

Godly homes with Gabby, moms and

dads that are going to treat them as

609

:

arrows in the hand of, of themselves

that they're going to fill their

610

:

quiver with children that maybe.

611

:

Weren't born in their home, but they're

going to be raised in their home and

612

:

they're gonna be raised to follow Jesus.

613

:

And that is such a good thing.

614

:

It's such an important thing that.

615

:

Are sending pastor used to say, man, we've

got to have large families as Christians

616

:

because we've got the world having their.

617

:

Their offspring and we're not

basically, we've got, I'll populate

618

:

the, the unbelievers out there.

619

:

Uh, and, and yeah, Mueller's been talking

about that recently on the briefing.

620

:

Yes, he has.

621

:

The population is decreasing

and alarming rate.

622

:

What an opportunity for Christians

to say, well, fill, fill the gap.

623

:

Yeah.

624

:

Let's fill our quivers and.

625

:

And who knows what God will

do with that down that.

626

:

Towards the end.

627

:

We're not post-millennial lists

by any stretch of imagination.

628

:

That's correct.

629

:

But there.

630

:

I'm not going to argue that there

may not be another revival on the

631

:

horizon before Christ comes back or

before anything like that happen.

632

:

So I think there's room

for us, all that, to say.

633

:

Now that I've stepped

out and fully into that.

634

:

I just want to encourage

you to think, man.

635

:

Th there's, there's more than

one way to skin a cat when

636

:

it comes to having a family.

637

:

And I do think God desires

that for his people.

638

:

Can I offer one alternative

to, as you're thinking about

639

:

this and at this might be you.

640

:

I mean, I think about the way that

Paul speaks to Titus, he says to Titus

641

:

my true child and a common faith.

642

:

Sure.

643

:

You can have children, spiritual children

that are just as meaningful and just as

644

:

profound in the relationship that you

experienced with those in your church.

645

:

And as I've pled before, like if

you're, if you're of the older

646

:

demographic, please don't leave.

647

:

Please stay part of your church and stay

there until the Lord takes you home.

648

:

There's lots of young

people that need your needs.

649

:

Your wisdom need your life experience.

650

:

Need your time.

651

:

And especially if you're retired and

you have time to give it into invest

652

:

in a young man or a young woman,

this could be the very thing that God

653

:

is opening the door for you to do.

654

:

Our church does have a lot of

young people and it's continuing

655

:

to add more it every day.

656

:

It is.

657

:

Um, every church, if they're healthy

and they're growing is going to have

658

:

a large young person population.

659

:

Maybe your child, your job is to

invest in a spiritual way and a few

660

:

people in a significant way, perhaps.

661

:

And in this way, you're building

a house for the Lord and you can

662

:

with Paul say my true child in a

common faith to that young person.

663

:

Amen.

664

:

And then we'll keep her in your

Bibles with us and tune it again.

665

:

Tomorrow as we tackle, I don't

know, 14, 15, 30, 50, 50, a

666

:

hundred thousand songs tomorrow.

667

:

All right.

668

:

See you guys better.

669

:

Bye.

670

:

Bye.
