Walking With Change Introduction

SPEAKERS: carla

(Music throughout)

carla:

Hello, I'm carla joy bergman, and this is an introduction to my new podcast. Walking with change is the show about searching for new, better or lost questions. The show is a blending of conversations, short fiction, poetry, music and some musings, that dig into what it means to be present during these rapidly changing times.

carla:

At the heart of the show, I'll be asking my guests what questions are bubbling up for them at this time? And then in conversation, we will walk with these questions. Because when we listen as we walk, we have the potential to be with it all, including the hard stuff. But we also can make and unmake ourselves and art worlds. And in these becoming-more-together practices, we can bloom beautiful and autonomous now's amidst the ongoing disasters and looming our current dooms.

carla:

Walking with change is an invitation to walk with me and my guests on some brambly-filled-paths, as we discover landscapes of lost or clandestine questions, or uncover new and better ones along the way. Of course, this will happen in conversation. We're not actually walking. But who knows? Who knows what the future holds? Right? So, maybe sometimes we will be literally walking, you'll have to tune in.

carla:

I am intentionally inviting folks into these conversations, whom I feel are asking interesting questions at this time, or are willing to sit with not knowing as they ponder possible questions on the horizon. What if the most common questions swarming our minds and hearts, even at the edges of society, our mere distractions or worse, leading us further into crisis by keeping us in a feedback loop with an empire by asking the same questions over and over again across time. Some of these recycled questions of course, are being answered, but often in a way that reinscribe systems have domination. Holding colonialism in place, or deadens our desires to keep asking more questions.

carla:

The show will be grounded in kinetic ideas and radical histories. And will braid together art, science, spirituality and other emerging themes that show up at the crossroads of our lives. These themes will unfold through a sharing of multi-genre stories and conversations with wonderful guests and bloom while we explore the questions that arise together.

carla:

Think of the show as a forging of new or hidden paths, a kind of tapestry in the making, or perhaps a scrumptious meal that is marinating in joy and mixing in many other feeling-thinking flavors. My wish for the show is that together we might find or create some bridges that move us over some of the gaps -- leading us closer towards collective freedom and justice.

carla:

These are some of the edges, fault lines, and terrains that I invite you to join me and my fellow errant-body guests on! Let's wander together on the pathways that embraced this messiness of asking questions as we explore and learn together, delighting in the surprises that sprang up along the way. Because as John Cage said, "Conversation is when you don't know what the next thing the person you're with, is going to say."

carla:

So as I compose all of these plans and dreams together, I also aspire to walk slower on the many weirding paths that will unfold over time. I have found that going slower is the best way that I can show up and truly listen to the feeling-thinking that flashes up in these conversations, and in my relationships, and in our lives.

carla:

I am very excited to share these wonderful conversations with you all.
