Human trafficking is not simply a problem happening somewhere else in the world. It is a present-day form of slavery affecting vulnerable people in communities across the United States and around the globe.

In this special Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast interview from Christian Product Expo Summer 2026 in St. Charles, Missouri, TS Wright sits down with author and former trial attorney Dan Stephenson to discuss his book, Noonday Light: Mobilizing the Church to Fight Modern Slavery.

Dan shares how his life changed after taking a pro bono case involving a 13-year-old girl who had been trafficked from Mexico into the United States and exploited in a sex-trafficking operation. Hearing her story and studying Scripture—particularly passages calling believers to defend the oppressed—helped turn human trafficking from a legal issue into a personal Christian calling.

Dan explains why he believes the Church should be on the front lines of confronting modern slavery. His message is not limited to identifying the problem; Noonday Light is designed to answer the question Christians repeatedly ask:

“What can I do?”

In this conversation, Dan and TS discuss:

  • Why human trafficking should concern every Christian.
  • The connection between modern trafficking and the biblical call to defend the oppressed.
  • Why human trafficking includes more than child sex trafficking.
  • How traffickers increasingly use the internet to target vulnerable people.
  • The importance of awareness and prevention.
  • Why prayer is essential in confronting trafficking as a spiritual battle.
  • How churches can partner with established anti-trafficking organizations.
  • Ways believers can give, volunteer, advocate, pray, or even enter full-time ministry in this field.
  • Why traffickers themselves should not be excluded from prayer and evangelism.
  • How transformed former traffickers can potentially become powerful allies in combating exploitation.
  • Why the Church must move beyond comfortable issues and respond when God calls believers into difficult areas of ministry.

Dan challenges Christians not merely to acknowledge the evil of trafficking, but to become informed, pray, support organizations already doing the work, and ask God where they personally can become involved.

The title Noonday Light draws from Isaiah 58:10 and the biblical picture of God's people spending themselves on behalf of the hungry and oppressed so that their light rises in the darkness. Dan's vision is that Christians carrying the light of Jesus into the darkness of human trafficking can simultaneously help those being oppressed and point people toward Christ—the ultimate giver of freedom.
