Nathan:

Have mercy upon me, O God,

According to Your lovingkindness;

According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,

Blot out my transgressions.

David. Psalm 51:1 Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 25 of 30 Days of Prayer. This prayer, written by the ancient Israelite king, David, is full of insight. The king is notorious for an affair with the wife of one of his most faithful military officers—and a desperate cover up murder. In the prayer, David’s deep sorrow and change of heart are clearly seen—and provide helpful insight into life-changing prayer. David approaches God with hope on a single premise: God loves him without reserve. Filling his life with mercy and kindness. It is this sense of God’s deep, loving care for him that both brings him to broken tears—and drives his belief that God loves him still, in spite of his unconscionable actions. It is through this broken, hopeful prayer that we ourselves find assurance in the midst of our own failure. Assurance that, in spite of blowing it big time, we never approach a God who’s fed up and had enough, but rather a God whose heart is always for us.
