Started.
Robb (:Welcome to another show of Don't Get Distwisted. I am Rob along with my co host as always, Tina. How you doing Tina?
Tina (:I'm doing all right. You did not get that on the the beginning of the show, did you?
Robb (:Probably, but I'll I'll probably edit that one out. Just in case.
Tina (:That's good. my goodness.
Robb (:So, how you doing today on this fine Wednesday? The show's coming out late today because I unfortunately had a couple of things that I had to do that I couldn't get out of. So But it will be out on Wednesday, so hey, what do you know? Here we are. How are you today?
Tina (:Here we are.
I'm I'm hanging in there, like I got a lot accomplished and I'm taking off tomorrow to go buy fireworks for the weekend and yeah. We'll see what happens.
Robb (:Nice.
Robb (:Yeah, where w where where I live, I told you there's signs everywhere that say if you're caught with it's a thousand dollar fine. Even if you ha not shooting off, just if you have
Tina (:Well, I don't know if you've seen in the county of Los Angeles on the fourth of July when the helicopters are going around, like it's a freaking zoo. Like it just is what it is. I mean I I was telling my dad that a couple of years ago when we started the construction in our house that nobody was here for the fourth. It was like a really sad day for my dad and brother. I was kinda happy because I do a lot of work on that day, but I was sitting in the pool by myself 'cause I t I'm had them go
Robb (:Yeah.
Tina (:To a different party and I had a beer in my hand and I was in an inner tube and I'm floating and just looking up into the sky and neighbors on three sides were blowing shit up. So I I mean box pieces were literally falling into the pool. So I don't think if we have a few fireworks anybody's gonna be the
Robb (:Yeah. So supposedly over on this side of the world, one of the guys in my building who walks around here on the he's like a patrol guy. He says that the the rumor is this year that they're gonna use drones.
Tina (:They said that the last like four or five years though.
Robb (:Yeah. Wh where I live though, I can see him doing it just because they're the sheriff's department. So they yeah. We'll see. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
Tina (:Well come on over because over here where everybody rebels, there's been fireworks for weeks going on now.
Robb (:There'll be fireworks going off here too. I I got gummies for my bear or for my doggy. Yeah. I mean he is a bear. But
Tina (:for your bear. That was a good one though. I like that.
Robb (:But I got some gummies for him to like their calming drops. So he can just kinda chill out.
Tina (:Yeah, I was thinking about getting the dog in this is a couple of months ago and then I thought, Fourth of July is coming up, don't even start that shit. Like don't. We we always had Dobermans and they would get really neurotic and so my mom would take in the room and kinda lock in and give stuff to calm down.
Robb (:Yeah.
They're they're kind of in the same ballpark as my Aussie because they're very they have anxiety, Doberman's. And so do they. So 'cause they're working dogs. Most most working dogs don't do well if they don't have anything to do. So and then he to tell you the truth, my dog's okay with fireworks. when he was a puppy, like just I mean
Tina (:Yeah.
Tina (:Yes.
Robb (:just over like nine months, I walked him on on Fourth of July outside and the fireworks were going off. And he did okay. so I've taken him out pretty much all the time during that because I want him to not be afraid. But I also want him to sleep. So I'll probably go out with him when they're going off just so he can kind of see what's going on. But, you know, probably have him on some
Tina (:Tina (03:54.85)
Good. Yeah.
Robb (:'Cause I the the ones that the a buddy of mine gave me in the building, they have a little bit of C B D in them. So he'll he'll probably sleep like a baby. So speaking of fireworks and the fourth of July and all the things that are going on in our country these days, it's the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of this country.
Tina (:Okay.
Tina (:There you go.
Tina (:Amazing.
Robb (:yeah, it's crazy. It's I was just talking to somebody at work and I go, This will be the last big one for me. And he goes, What you mean? And I go, I'm not making it to the three hundredth. You know, maybe my my kid will.
Tina (:That's true.
Yeah, for sure.
Robb (:You know, that would make him that would make him about seventy-four. So he has a chance to see the 300th anniversary of this country. Yeah, so we but this is a big deal. So like for us, this is like the big one. 250 years is pretty crazy. but I also sent you a couple of videos because I thought it's a 250th anniversary of this great nation that we live in.
Tina (:Wow.
Tina (:Yeah.
Tina (:That's so cool.
Robb (:With the World Cup going on here, there's a lot of Europeans in this country. Lots of them. They're actually they're all over North America, but there are a lot in the United States. so I sent you some videos of reactions of these people that are now in the States and them seeing first of all, how big America is. Like
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Tina (:Oops.
Tina (:How we live.
Yes.
Robb (:I I don't think people really understand the size of this country. yeah, you can't. But I mean, in Europe, like, so I should have sent you this other one, but I'll tell you what the guy said. Basically, Europeans, in the English and most Europeans shit on us because we're not cultured, because we don't travel. well, this is a British guy who loves America. He's trying to move here and he goes, listen.
Tina (:How could you?
Tina (:Mm.
Robb (:He goes, the the Americans don't have to travel abroad because the country's so big. He goes, he goes, it'll take you, it'll take you 10 hours to drive through Texas. And and he goes, or more. Yeah, just me exactly. If you're going south to north, it's definitely more. East to west, you might be able to make it in less than 10 hours. So he c he was trying to like tell these people like, look,
Tina (:Very true.
Tina (:Yep. Or more.
Tina (:Yeah.
Tina (:Mm.
Robb (:It each state in this union is like a country. They have their own food, their own their own drawl, their own accent, their own everything. It's like we're like 50 little countries. yeah, I mean, maybe not the way that they think, but obviously they're very different. All these states, like Texas and Louisiana are right next to each other. They're not the same.
Tina (:Say so.
Tina (:No they are not.
Robb (:You know what I mean? Like, they're not the same. Some are full of cowboys and some are full of voodoo people.
Tina (:Well shit, even yeah, that's funny. Even Texas, like you go from one area to the next, they're not the same either. It's a ma well, Texas is such a huge state. But it it literally is different depending on what side you're on.
Robb (:Right. Yeah, it's it's very true. So for me, I think that it's cool to see these people.
Tina (:Not shitting on America.
Robb (:N Yeah, well a and I sent you like a couple of videos and the other one was these people kind of saying sorry.
To the United States because their media shits on this country and we're not bad people. They, you know, they're like, they're generous. I've seen many videos of like these Europeans would go to restaurants and and Americans will pick up the tab for them because they're like, Yeah, tons of them. They're like, no, no, you don't have to pay. They're like, No, don't worry about it. And again, a lot of it is in the South. You know, there's a lot Southern hospitality is very real. Well, s
Tina (:no way.
Tina (:Okay.
Robb (:S the Scotland in their first couple of games were in Boston.
Tina (:Robb (08:35.134)
so they you know, s the Scots so Germany and Scotland were in Boston and they both loved to drink. There were bars in Boston that ran out of beer.
Tina (:Serious.
Robb (:'Cause they partied and they had a good old time. So it
Tina (:And Boston is where they have it. They have we could get alcohol at any time a d any day, but Boston they have like days where you can't buy alcohol.
Robb (:Yeah, I I'm not sure about that. I know the South is definitely like that. Like you So like you look at things like that, these guys are partying with with you know the local Bostonians. And there's a lot of Irish people in Boston. So like they were all in these pubs in Boston having a good old time partying. then I saw some some footage of Japan.
Tina (:it's definitely like that in Boston and Connecticut. I've been there.
Tina (:That's funny.
Robb (:started their tournament in Texas and there were all these Japanese people eating American Texas barbecue for the first time.
Tina (:that's so different than Japanese food.
Robb (:Yeah, and and they just like brisket. They were bringing brisket and and big huge beef ribs and like all these different things. And you could see like they would take a bite and they'd be like, Holy shit, like this is amazing.
Tina (:Yeah.
That's awesome.
Robb (:So it it's nice to see people who and I and I I hate to say that their country's media lied to them about us. I'm gonna try to be nice and say that I think that they report sensationalism, right? A lot of and so do we. We generally don't shit on other countries in the in Europe. We just shit on ourselves.
You know what I mean? Like we just bash our own. We we bash each other instead of, you know, certain things. I guess we do bash each other's states. But it's it's pretty interesting to see how different these people are now seeing this country. I've seen I've seen videos of people going, I don't want to leave. How do I get back here? I I love it. It just goes to show you that.
Tina (:That's awesome.
Tina (:I love that. Aww.
Yeah.
Robb (:It's a farce. These people think that because it's this one guy was like, I thought it was gonna be everyone was gonna have guns and people were gonna be dying in the streets, and I was gonna get robbed. And and and and the guy goes, There's nothing like this. There was a guy, he was South African. I want to say he was in Alabama, because so there were some games there. And he's walking through this park in Alabama, and he's telling you.
Tina (:Yeah.
Robb (:How it would be in South Africa. He goes, I couldn't walk in this park alone. He goes, they'd try to rob me. He goes, he goes, I see women walking through here alone with purses and jewelry on and all this stuff. He goes, they would rob you in South Africa. He goes, it wouldn't, you wouldn't last 10 minutes. And I was like, wow. And he goes, he goes, you know, he goes, I saw a woman jogging through the park by herself.
Tina (:Wow.
Tina (:Huh. No.
Robb (:And he couldn't believe it. He just goes, It it's nothing like this in South Africa at home. Like it's dangerous and and you couldn't do that. And and I was like, it's so awesome for someone to and look, don't get me wrong. There are dangerous parts in this country. I don't wanna, you know, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, but it's also not damage and despair. You know what I mean? Like, it's just not.
Tina (:We're not perfect. Yeah.
Tina (:Exactly.
Robb (:Are there bad places here? Absolutely. South side of Chicago, not the greatest place in the world. It's just not. And there's parts of Houston, not a good place to be in. But right outside of a lot of those cities, it's beautiful. So I think it's an interesting thing because Americans, we love to travel to Europe, you know, France, Spain.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Tina (:Absolutely.
Robb (:You know, all those countries over there, because they're beautiful. They are. The and they have very, very rich history. You know, there's buildings in London and Rome and France that have been there, you know, a thousand years. Like crazy shit. So where this country is only 250 years old. Almost. Soon enough. A couple days.
Tina (:Almost almost.
Robb (:So this one guy was kind of talking about that, and he goes, he goes, I'm sick and tired of hearing that there's no beautiful buildings here. And again, he was in there was some people in Boston where there's old churches, and like it's an that's an old city. It's one of the first ones that was founded, New York. Lots of old buildings. And then there were people in the south that were like these massive plantation houses that are, you know.
Tina (:Oops.
Tina (:Beautiful.
Robb (:Beautiful and and s and old. And he goes, Look, they have a rich history here. Don't kid yourself.
Tina (:Well I think what we're finding out is that our media, the people that are in charge of us getting any information are
really slanted in whatever direction they are depending on where you're you're coming from. And ultimately I think that's the problem that we're having. It's not the people in any country. I think the people of of every country are genuinely good.
But we sensationalize the shitty things that happen and make that the the rule and not the exception.
Robb (:Correct. A hundred percent agree. A hundred percent agree. I also think that it's easy. You're right, we do need to quit. But I think it's easy to to cherry pick shitty things. And shitty things sell the news. Where, you know, I remember growing up in the San Fernando Valley and
Tina (:So we need to quit.
Tina (:Absolutely.
Tina (:Yes.
Robb (:And I thought it was kind of bullshit my whole life until I saw it firsthand. Where the lead in to the 11 o'clock news, because for those who didn't know, the 11 o'clock news was the last news of the night. The lead story was always shitty. Always. They would have worst of the worst, then it would go a little bit less worse, a little bit less worse. The sports.
Tina (:Yes.
Mm-hmm. The worst of the worst.
Tina (:Mm.
Robb (:Then another shitty story, the weather and a cat getting taken out of a tree.
Tina (:Yep. That is so true.
Robb (:And I and I thought like, because that that was always the joke, like, the news always gives you a feel-good story. And I remember hearing that in like junior high, and I was like, I didn't really watch the news a lot then. I was too busy playing with G.I. Joe's. Yeah. But then I remember seeing it late in high school. And then right after I started living on my own, I would have the, you know, the news on at night because I lived alone. And then I started seeing.
Tina (:Nobody cared.
Robb (:The legitimate bullshit that they were feeding people. And I was like, my God, there is a feel-good story. Always. There's always a fucking feel-good story. Like they they want to poke you a bunch of times with a really sharp needle and then go, don't worry about it. We have the band-aid. And I was like, wow. So I think, and it and it hasn't changed, at least not in America. It's always still the same. There's always some kind of, you know.
Tina (:Yeah.
Robb (:Yeah, somebody gets their money back, somebody's got rescued out of a, you know, a drain, some shit. There's always some kind of feel-good story. So for me, I'm I'm guessing that the European media is the same, right? Because it works. This is how humans are built. They understand that you gotta you it's okay to punch them in the face twenty times as long as you give them something nice to go to bed to.
Tina (:Absolutely.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Robb (:And and this is why the eleven o'clock news is only thirty minutes and and at eleven thirty there's a talk show that's got comedy on it. So then the last ten to twenty minutes that you're awake, it's ha ha funny. The lead in is a is a comedy set. It's just like we've been programmed.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Robb (:Far before we were born, Tina. Far before we were born. This is probably a late 40s thing. You know, during World War II. Still going on. So it's nice to see these people who have come here and it's all on YouTube now or on TikTok or on Instagram. There's no editing. There's no one in charge of it. They can post whatever they want and they're showing.
Tina (:absolutely.
And it's still going on.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Robb (:how different and cool and fun this country is. Some of my favorite ones that I've seen, and if you haven't seen any of them public, go on YouTube and just type in Europeans World Cup, you know, happiness or fun, because there's a bazillion of them.
Tina (:Mm.
Robb (:Seeing them go into places, there was a guy who posted, it was like, I can't believe this, the size of this. It's like a museum inside. It was Walmart. Because they don't have superstores there in Europe. So he walked, yeah.
Tina (:Mm, mm-hmm.
Tina (:Yeah. Walmarts are excessive though in what they have for sure.
Robb (:Well, 'cause the guy was like, I can go in there and I can buy a gun, a set of tires, some frozen chicken, a t shirt, like, and a bicycle. Like he just he couldn't fathom that you didn't have to go to like the gun store and the bike shop and the tire place. Like, no, you can just pull up and pick it all up at once. Yeah. Have you been to a Bucky's yet? Okay. So I haven't either.
Tina (:Anything.
Tina (:Yeah, it's not specialized.
No. My brother and my dad have.
Robb (:Because I they don't they don't have them in this state. supposedly they're opening one in Arizona. That's g gonna be the closest. But my son has been to Texas and he he went to a Bucky's. And I remember him telling me, Dad, you have to see this place. And I was like, it's a gas station. And he goes, It's not a gas station.
Tina (:Okay.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Robb (:I was like, what do you mean? He goes, the one he went to San Antonio, and the one that he went to had 50 pumps. That's five zero. And so he went inside to get because he wanted an energy drink. And he said, I walked in and it looked like a Walmart market.
Tina (:Okay.
Tina (:Wow.
Tina (:Okay.
Tina (:Right.
Robb (:Like it's that big. It's just this massive building. He goes, they have their own merch department where there's just shirts and you know, hats and stuffed animals and all this shit. And every morning they serve fresh brisket.
Tina (:Yeah.
Tina (:No way.
Robb (:Yeah. And they yell it when they when they walk out with it, they're like, you know, I forgot what they say, brisket on the you know, brisket on the bill or something like that. And they chop it up right in front of you and they make sandwiches and they sell sandwiches in the morning. Yeah. And so I asked him, 'cause, you know, who doesn't like a little brisket? I go, I go, I go, was it good? And he goes,
Tina (:That's cool.
Tina (:Was it good?
Robb (:Yeah, it's amazing. And he goes, he goes, is it restaurant quality? No. He goes, but it's better than anything that you know you can get at any fast food place. So he goes, people go there and get brisket sandwiches at seven AM, like people go to McDonald's and get a McMuffin. Yeah. I I just thought that was like it blew my mind. So I can't wait to go to a Bucky's at some point because I
Tina (:Wow. That's cool.
Robb (:I guess he goes, everyone has to at least experience it one time. So you can go, holy crap. So these Europeans are down in in Dallas because they're playing in Dallas for the World Cup as well. And of course, there's Buckeys there. And these people, this girl, an English girl and her boyfriend walk in and they pick up a little shopping, you know, plastic shopping cart thing.
Tina (:Yeah.
Robb (:So they're walking around and she's videoing it and she's like, look, f you know, dried mangoes and and beef jerky and they have fresh hot nuts that they put in a bag for you in there. At Bucky's. Just crazy to me. Kinda reminds me of of being in Sears when we were kids. I don't know if you cause I used to go
Tina (:At Bucky's?
Tina (:Okay. Yeah, it was like three floors.
Robb (:Yeah, we used to go get hot cashews. I remember me and my dad. So they have like something like that where they put like hot nuts in a bag and then you can get them there. And sh and so these people are just tripping balls because there's so much you can get in this gas station. And they're like, This is a petrol station. I I why is it so big? And I was like, it's so cool to see these things.
Tina (:no, it's in a bag.
Robb (:And of course like pe there's I saw one where someone went to Costco, which was like a whole other thing. This guy walked into Costco and he's like, It's like four Walmarts. Like he didn't know how to
Tina (:Hmm.
Robb (:So, yes, we are big. This country is very massive. It's it's
Tina (:That's true.
Robb (:I I hate to say it's Americana, but it is. But
Tina (:But it's a very it's it's a place of opportunity. Where you could go and have whatever you want, whenever you want at whatever store you gotta go to. But there's there's only three big ones you need to go to. Yeah.
Robb (:Absolutely. Absolutely.
Robb (:Right. Exactly. The the one video I I sent you that I thought was kind of interesting was the English girl and she goes the guy goes, What do you think you know, what's the best part of America so far? And he goes, She goes, No one knocks you down here. If you have an idea, they they say go for it. She goes, you know, in in England they take the piss out of you right away. Like they try to knock you down and say, Don't you'll never make it. And and he goes, Americans go, yeah, you should probably go do that.
Tina (:yeah.
Tina (:Yeah.
Robb (:Like, and I thought, you know, it a lot of these videos to me made me proud to be an American. Like, we are good people and we're the hasp the hospitality that these people are getting, not just in the South, Boston, LA, New York, you know, all over this country. It's not just one part of it. Like, there's people in Seattle that are just like, you know, we're having a great time, all over.
that it goes to show you that and we're all different without getting too deep, very different politically all over this country.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Robb (:They're they're not running into people going, you know, I hate the orange man or you need to do this. They're like, hey, welcome to our city. We're here for soccer. Enjoy America. And like, to me, we need to start doing that. Us. You know, is this is there shitty things in this country? Absolutely. But if you're gonna break them down to
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Tina (:there's shitty things everywhere.
Robb (:But if you're gonna break them down to two political parties, you're the problem.
Tina (:Yeah. I agree with that.
Robb (:You know, because here's the thing. I I lean conservatively, but I have lots of left leaning friends, lots of them. Because I don't give a shit. That's not you you can still be, you know, lean some way politically and be my friend. Because hopefully that doesn't that's not the only thing you are.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Tina (:Right.
Robb (:You know, if if you gotta wake up in the morning and go, I'm this, you're probably not a happy person. So I it's good to see these people that are just enjoying Americans for what they are, good folks, doing fun stuff, and learning things from Europeans.
Tina (:Mm-mm.
Robb (:I think that's the other good thing about this. I think we're learning stuff. There's England has been in Mexico. They're part of that group of of soccer games. And I've seen some of the people down there, and they're just like, this is a beautiful country. Like, it's not what the news says it is. And it's like.
Tina (:Mm-hmm.
Robb (:Yeah. You know, every town's not Juarez. It's just not. There's great cities in Mexico.
Tina (:Right.
Tina (:And I gotta tell you, I used to party in Wates. Wat is was the place to go at one point. It's not right now, but man, and culture and fun and everybody gets along. They just wanted a party. You partied everywhere when you partied there. It was a good time.
Robb (:Yeah. Yeah, I think most of those games are in Mexico City. So obviously they're in the capital city and and it's you know and and Mexico City is very different than the rest of Mexico. So which is again just like this country. If you go to Texas and you go to LA, you're gonna get different people. If you go to New York and you go to Seattle, you're gonna get different people.
Tina (:Absolutely.
Robb (:That's what makes this country great. It's no different than going to, and look, you can go to the United Kingdom and you can go to an island off of England and Ireland and it's a different fucking place. And you can go to Scotland, which is connected to the England, and it's a different place. So these people are, I think, also learning that they're not different than us.
Tina (:Absolutely.
Tina (:Yes.
Robb (:They're the same. All these countries are different, just like all these states are different. And we all have our own little click and our own little thing about us. Cause obviously it's funny to hear them. I hear I saw one guy talking about how how California accent was interesting. Exactly. And and and I thought it was humorous, but again, he's English. So everyone has an accent.
Tina (:Hmm. Californians don't have an accent.
Tina (:Yeah. Yes, that's for sure.
Robb (:So, you know, and and it was there was this couple, I want to say they were in Alabama for a game. They were down there, and the whole time they were like, everyone says y'all, and they're so nice, and they and they, here's the other thing, Tina, that they don't have there. They don't have free refills. Yeah. So Europe has no free refills. So these people that are coming here.
Tina (:What?
Robb (:You know, the waitress will come to their table and be like, Do you want a refill? And at first they were like, they would never order it because they thought they were gonna get charged again, because that's what they do in Europe. If you want another drink, they charge you for another full whole soda. So and she was like, Well, you know, and and the girl goes, You know, they're free. And she goes, They're free. She goes, Yeah. He she's like, Yeah, fill this shit up. So they and then they walk out to their car.
Tina (:okay.
Tina (:Right?
Robb (:And the girl was like, I had three sodas today. And no one said anything to me. They didn't even stop me. I was like, no. So it's great to see the funny small things this country does that other places don't. And vice versa, right? It is this going to like be the greatest thing since sliced bread? Probably not.
Tina (:Ha ha.
Robb (:But I think it's going to change some minds of Europeans that all they hear is the orange man is bad, the United States is shitty, everyone's got a gun and they're killing each other. When it's not true. It
Tina (:No, there's there's times it's true, but it's it's the exception, it's not the rule and that's what we need to start thinking that what they're putting on is is bullshit. Yeah.
Robb (:Absolutely.
Correct. Yeah.
Is their scare tactics. It you know, and it's no different than again, like we're we we could talk Warez. Warez is not the greatest place in the world, but I don't think they're murdering everybody either. You know what I mean? It's so you know, there's there's gonna be pockets and bad people everywhere. I'm sure there's a European that that came here and and got mugged in some city and
Tina (:That's true.
Robb (:And and got the shitty part of this country. Or they or they went out and someone tried to mug them, and 14 other Americans beat the guy's ass in front of him, and they were like, this is the craziest country in the whole world. Get me another beer. You know? Because that could happen too. Yeah. Mostly like in like Texas, where it's just a bunch of drunk, you know, cowboys. And
Tina (:Right.
Tina (:Because that could happen too.
Robb (:I'm I'm very happy to see that that the World Cup is on the two hundred and fifty anniversary of this country.
Tina (:It's definitely pulling some positive feedback 'cause I was starting to worry about the way people thought about us.
Robb (:I a hundred percent agree. And I think now when Americans travel to Europe this coming winter, because there it's it's a you know, it's warmer. I think that Americans may be treated a little different.
Tina (:Yeah.
Robb (:You know, like maybe maybe both sides of this planet will will be like, you know, they're they're good folks. And and I guarantee you, Americans are seeing Europeans in a different light. You know, because they're coming here and they're having a good time and and they just want to be part. Where, you know, because in the English, at least from what some of these
video that I've seen online. And these are English people talking. Talking about how people in England are kind of stuffy. I I again I've never been there so I don't want to shit on them because we have a lot of people who listen in London. But I they I guess they're stuffy and they're and they take a piss out of things. They like to laugh, which is kind of cool. But I these are people from their own country saying look, it's they can be pretty stuffy and they're
Tina (:Kinda.
Tina (:Hm. They are
Yeah.
Robb (:And and maybe now they're seeing Americans for being what we are and we're seeing them for just wanting to have a good old time and kind of let loose in another country. I'm I'm happy. And look, this country in the scheme of things is very young. You know, it's 250 years a long time. It's a pretty good, you know, in I'm gonna boast a little bit.
In 250 years, this is the greatest country on this planet. Period. If you want to make it in the world, you want to get rich from being poor, you know, all in all, this is a great country. Do we have bad things here? Absolutely. But we're a superpower. When anyone on this planet needs help, do you know who they ask first? Us. You know, there was a huge earth earthquake in Venezuela. Do you know who went there to help?
Tina (:Yeah, bad things everywhere.
Robb (:Find survivors? Us. If there was an earthquake in downtown Los Angeles like there was in Northridge, do you think any other countries sent people here to help?
Tina (:I don't I don't recall anybody sending people here to help.
Robb (:Yeah, probably not. So, and again, I'll I'll pat us on the back. We do wear a S on our chest. We are the Superman of the planet. But, you know, all in all, I think we're all people. I my biggest thing I want to get out of this, both us being a young country but very good, and people visiting here. If you're an American and you go abroad, don't be a dick.
Tina (:Right? Absolutely. Entitled people roaming around the the world is not a good thing. Here it's not a big deal, but other places it is. Well, of course, but here is where it's all created.
Robb (:Because we can be. You know? Don't. Yeah. Go go to a
Robb (:Yeah. I mean even here, even here it's I wanna smack people.
Correct. It it's we're we're our own worst enemy here. So if you leave this country and you go to Europe, don't be a dick. Remember you're in another country. And you know, when in Rome be Roman. So, and when in England be English, you know, don't be don't be an umpity American. Because now they understand who we are. And
Tina (:Absolutely.
Robb (:Be welcoming to people there and and they will be welcoming to us. I think it it's really good. And this fourth of July, think about your ancestors that have been on this continent for a long, long time. You know, ha even if if you look at the the things that we've done, the it nothing's been perfect. But all in all
This country is pretty damn good.
Robb (:All in all.
Tina (:It's it's my favorite country.
Robb (:I mean I've only been to a couple, but it's a great place. It I mean it's it's the land of opportunity.
Tina (:We are fortunate here that we could do whatever it is that we want to do. We can make things happen and it's up to us to make it work, but we're we're not told we can't, you know. there's countries where women still aren't able to read or get an education or or have any opinions, you know, and here shit I've been doing a podcast for four years, four years of opinions, four years of education, four years of of every
Robb (:Or drive.
Robb (:Yeah.
Tina (:Everything that that that most women lack in certain places I flourish with. I write a damn hardly. Like if this isn't one of the best places for women especially to be, I'd like for somebody to show me something better.
Robb (:In other countries.
Robb (:What?
Robb (:Yes. It's definitely up there. Yeah. I mean there's a couple of Western countries, obviously the UK, Australia, there's a couple that mimic us that yes they have rights. But there's there's some that you don't. Shit there's
Tina (:But isn't Australia where you can't own a gun?
Robb (:yeah, yeah. There's yeah, there's well, you can, but there's lots of things to jump through. Same with the UK. You can own one, but fuck you gotta jump through a bazillion hoops. You today can go buy a gun and protect yourself. And it it's look, we we have a lot of freedoms. And with those freedoms come good times.
Tina (:Yeah.
Robb (:This this Saturday you can go out, barbecue your stuff in the backyard, have as many people over as you want, and have a good old time. And and we're lucky that we can do that. We really are. And and you know, this Saturday I'm going to have an adult beverage and and and watch
Tina (:That's what we do every year.
Tina (:You need to come over.
Robb (:This country, you know, tear it up and and and and actually be proud. I there's the people look, I've watched a lot of videos too of these people that just like shit all over America and they're like, I hate America. The best part about this country is that if you don't like it here, you can leave. There's tons of places to go that are quote unquote just as free as us.
Tina (:Tear it up. They are too.
Tina (:Go wherever you are.
Robb (:I I I watched a video one day of of this guy goes, Hey, you know, if I could give you a one way ticket to any country on the planet, you know, where would you go? And this one person was like, you know, I don't know. And the guy goes, Well, I I'll do it.
And and they were like, no, no, you know, my family's here, but all of a sudden people get off that I wanna leave America horse. Because they realize, it ain't that bad here. You know, you got yours, it really isn't. Yeah.
Tina (:Yeah.
Tina (:W it really isn't. In the scheme of things in other places it's definitely not a bad place to be.
Robb (:You could be in a much worse place. So enjoy this coming weekend. Enjoy the Fourth of July. And, you know, as as crappy as you may think this country is, you might want to look in the mirror and open your eyes a little bit bigger and, you know, look down at that thousand dollar phone you have. Go out and look at your nice car in the driveway, your house full of furniture.
Tina (:Cellular
Robb (:all your friends and family that are doing are getting by with their thousand dollar phone and their car and and realize that man you you got it good and a lot of people cross borders are willing to die to get here.
Don't misplace your judgment of what this country is. You know, there's people that that are in Cuba that throw together fucking tires and try to build a raft and go through the ocean to get here and drown to death all the time. So there's not many people that are making boats in Florida and trying to travel to Cuba.
Tina (:Yeah.
Tina (:It's not happening.
Robb (:It's not happening. You got it good. You know, is it look in the mirror and say, hey, this is shitty and I don't like this. But you're you're gonna have a beer on Saturday, eat a pizza, and hang out with your friends. You're you're doing better than this. Is what I like to tell people about this country that most people don't understand.
Tina (:Yeah.
Robb (:If if you are making like 19,000 to 25,000 in this country, you make more money than like 85% of the world. If you're eating tonight, you're doing better than I forgot what the percentage is, a massive percentage of this planet. So the you know, you can if you want to shit on the forefathers, come Saturday.
Tina (:Wow.
Robb (:Just remember the freedoms you have to bitch and moan online or to do your podcast is because the forefathers said you have the right and the government can't stop you.
It's a it's a great place to live.
Tina (:is definitely a great place.
Robb (:So set off a couple fireworks come Saturday, party with your friends, have a drink on me, and really I I'm I I love I'm gonna I love this country. I'm a proud American and I'll I'll scream it from the rooftops. I'm very glad that I live in this country because my little brother who fought in Afghanistan will tell you that there's a lot shittier ones on this planet.
Tina (:Yeah, my dad will too.
Robb (:Yeah, yeah, your dad was in Vietnam. He saw firsthand how shitty a country could be. any last words there, Miss?
Tina (:More than most people should, yeah.
Tina (:You know, we could we could look at our lives and see how bad things are or we could look at our lives and see how good things are. And if we're living here in the United States, we're really freaking lucky. So we need to make better things that we don't like and we need to enjoy the things that we do and ultimately we need to find we need to be grateful because it could be so much worse. So much worse.
Robb (:Yep. Well, I'm gonna leave it on that. Cheers. Have a good time. Keep listening to the show. We'll be back next Wednesday. Don't drink and drive. Please. Don't be a dumbass. Get home. Be safe. and enjoy. No shooting guns in the air either. For fuck's sake. Don't shoot any guns in the air. Fuck. For fuck's sake, please don't. I mean.
Tina (:Don't be a dumbass.
Tina (:For fuck's sake, Keply said that.
Robb (:Just so many people get shot on Fourth of July because of fireworks. Don't do it. Have fun, but don't do nothing stupid. Get home to your loved ones and just enjoy Saturday. Pertina, I'm Rob. Have a good old time. It's an opinion show. Don't get it twisted. Keep coming back. We'll see you in week. Later. Happy fourth. Cheers.
Tina (:Happy fourth. Happy fourth.
