Transcripts

Geary:

Good morning.

Geary:

Welcome back to go crazy at the nurses round table.

Geary:

My name is Gary and I'm Kara

Geary:

What are we gonna go crazy with today?

Geary:

Our mission is it impossible??

Kara:

Yes.

Kara:

So we wanna create a platform for nurses to bring their problems,

Kara:

bring their issues to the table, but also bring some solutions.

Kara:

What is your opinion?

Kara:

What would, what do you think would work best?

Kara:

How can we make it better?

Kara:

For the future of nursing and for nursing now.

Geary:

Right.

Geary:

Because I think that the big organizations, the national organizations

Geary:

are dealing with these big problems and they're trying to solve these

Geary:

issues in nursing, but I don't know that anybody is truly able to, or

Geary:

listening to the nurse who does face to face care, the bedside nurse.

Geary:

And what are the issues that that nurse, he or she is dealing with.

Geary:

And do we have the solutions right?

Geary:

And can we help each other?

Geary:

Can we help each other?

Geary:

Starting the conversation here at Go crazy and then listening

Geary:

to the nurses out there mm-hmm.

Geary:

with their suggestions.

Geary:

Cuz maybe someone in.

Geary:

California has a solution for a day to day problem that someone in Ohio is having.

Kara:

Right?

Kara:

And it's all about giving the voice to the nurse and helping other

Kara:

people understand this business.

Kara:

Right?

Kara:

What is the career of nursing?

Kara:

The business of nursing, I see a lot of, memes and jokes and talks and

Kara:

Instagram accounts and, influencers and there's a lot of sarcasm and a lot.

Kara:

Jesting and Oh yes.

Kara:

A lot of passive aggressive jokes that happen around nursing and

Kara:

the plight of nurses, right?

Kara:

Yes.

Kara:

And it's fun, and it's our way of getting out that kind of like angsty

Kara:

aggression against the man, right?

Kara:

Or the corporation.

Kara:

But we would really like to get down to the heart of how do we solve

Kara:

these problems to where we don't have that angst or that animosity.

Kara:

And it's still funny and we still have fun at work, but all the issues that surround.

Kara:

, obviously retention, keeping nurses in the business, making it

Kara:

right, making it a continued career that people wanna be a part of.

Kara:

Yes.

Geary:

Making it a long term career.

Geary:

When we first came in, how we met nurses who had been in nursing for 30, 40 years,

Geary:

and those were our teachers, right?

Geary:

Mm-hmm.

Geary:

, they were still working on the floor.

Geary:

When we started and they, those are the people who trained us.

Geary:

And now, we are some of the issues that we're seeing out there, and this

Geary:

is part of what we're going crazy with, right, is that we see nurses

Geary:

leaving the profession so quickly.

Geary:

Someone just started and they've been in nursing for a year or two

Geary:

and they're burned out already and they wanna change careers or

Geary:

they wanna just do some type of.

Geary:

Triage phone nursing or that's if they wanna stay in nursing

Geary:

at all, they're wanting to go to something a little bit lighter.

Geary:

And although that's not really a light position, that's a heavy, actually,

Geary:

phone triage is a very heavy position.

Geary:

, but they're just wanting to transition to something else.

Geary:

And so we really want to, Our goal is to try and help save our profession,

Geary:

try and reach out to them, right?

Kara:

We wanna get to the heart of the issues that really,

Kara:

burn in a nurse's soul, right?

Kara:

What, what is your passion about this field?

Kara:

What do you love about it?

Kara:

What can we do to make it better?

Kara:

What can we do to continue?

Kara:

To inspire passion and inspiration period in young nurses and, and

Kara:

older nurses as well, because everybody's a little bit burnt out.

Geary:

Yes.

Geary:

I, I mean, I think, how can we reach the nurses out there that are

Geary:

struggling with any issue, any topic?

Geary:

No, no topic is off limits.

Geary:

We wanna hear from everyone out there.

Geary:

Honestly, what is it that's frustrating you?

Geary:

What are you going crazy with?

Geary:

And whether it is your leadership or it is something that you're, how you

Geary:

take care of a patient, some rule or regulation that's in place that

Geary:

maybe you have an improvement on.

Geary:

And, uh, how about the workarounds?

Geary:

. Okay.

Geary:

Nurses, let's talk about the workarounds.

Geary:

So there's so many things that we see happening in nursing and

Geary:

we wanna be able to talk about it and not just talk about it.

Geary:

We wanna be able to solve some of those issues.

Geary:

Mm-hmm.

Geary:

. And that's with your help with the help of the audience, we want

Geary:

you to be able to help us solve some of these issues for you.

Geary:

Just go through what is it like to be a nurse?

Geary:

So it's not only just for the nurses to have a voice, you know, to have

Geary:

some input in why, you know, because, So everybody has ideas, everybody has

Geary:

suggestions, but nobody get, Nobody really feels like they're heard, Right?

Geary:

Right.

Geary:

So we're giving them a platform to make their suggestions, not just on TikTok or

Geary:

Instagram, right, through memes and jokes, but through legitimate conversation.

Kara:

And then also it helps.

Kara:

Inform the community, like what nurses are really going through or what the

Kara:

nursing job career is actually all about.

Kara:

Yes, I, I agree that one of the primary reasons for us to present

Kara:

this podcast to, nurses out there and others is so that they can hear.

Kara:

What nurses are really dealing with on a day to day basis and those issues

Kara:

that they're faced with, that they talk about and they talk to each

Kara:

other about, and we all talk to each other about these issues that are

Kara:

concerning us or that we're dealing with and we get frustrated with that.

Kara:

No one seems to be solving, and I know.

Kara:

I feel like we have some solutions and we wanna hear what the nurses

Kara:

out there have to say about the situations that we talk about.

Kara:

From education to blowing off steam after work.

Kara:

What do you do to decompress after a long day or after a long

Geary:

week?

Geary:

Definitely.

Geary:

I think some of the things we wanna talk about here at Go crazy is,

Geary:

or rather are not just the topics.

Geary:

that are affecting nurses, the serious issues, but we wanna talk about things

Geary:

that nurses can do to relax and recharge.

Geary:

Recharge, yes.

Geary:

And whether that's acts throwing or going to a rage room or a smash room.

Geary:

I have not been to either of those yet, but that is, a fun

Geary:

dream that we can have, that we definitely, I think would be so fun.

Geary:

I think probably a lot of nurses could really get into that.

Geary:

You know, I've seen that episode on, uh, Netflix of, um, a working moms

Geary:

where one of the characters gets to go, Her husband takes her to a

Geary:

smash room for a decompress moment, and they just break all the dishes.

Geary:

And when she's all done, she's happy and thank you

Geary:

and mm-hmm.

Geary:

, that's, that just looked like quite a lot of fun.

Geary:

So, but I think any kind of exercise is gonna be fun.

Geary:

, you know, hot yoga and stuff.

Geary:

Well, I don't know that hot yoga is fun, but it's, it's definitely a good way to,

Geary:

De-stress.

Geary:

right?

Kara:

And you see a lot of going out on for like wine trips or, you know,

Kara:

short little getaways into the country to go to a wine tasting or whatever.

Kara:

And it's team building too, because you usually go with people that you

Kara:

work with, a couple of different girls.

Kara:

Or ladies or men or whoever.

Kara:

Mm-hmm.

Kara:

and you guys all go out together and do some stuff and it's team building.

Kara:

It's, it's bonding over a little bit of alcohol and a little bit of fun.

Geary:

Oh, I definitely, I think that's great.

Geary:

So I, I mean, I think anybody out there send us your

Geary:

suggestions on what you do to.

Geary:

De-stress as well because those are some of the things we wanna talk about

Geary:

here at Go crazy on this podcast.

Geary:

We wanna be talking about what you guys do to what you guys and gals do to de-stress.

Geary:

It's gonna be fun.

Geary:

We wanna have fun here, so send us your suggestions

Geary:

All right.

Geary:

That's all the time we have for today.

Geary:

We'll continue to have our discussions here at the round table with Karen, Gary.
