For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Paul. 2 Timothy 1:7. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 2 of 30 Days of Pushing Back Fear. Fear is not a God-thing. In fact, the Spirit God gives, is one that cries out, Daddy, to God. Seriously. That’s in the Bible! Fear is thing known only in our broken world. The chasm into which our human family plunged when Mr. and Mrs. Human ate the fruit of the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Come to think of it, fear can be born of either ignorance. Or knowledge—and both these facts form pieces of our foundation here. We know things now, we should never have known. We know the dark of the dark side. We know about abusive parents. Hateful strangers. Vicious diseases. This knowledge gives birth to the ugly children of fear. But ignorance has her children, too. We walked into addiction, thinking it was just a good time—now we stare down a long, hard road to partial recovery. That little fling—has left a gaping wound. Those lies we told to get off the hook have wrapped us in a thousand cords. And, we’re afraid. None of this is God’s doing—but the cost of abandoning his doing, for our own. However you’ve been experiencing fear, let God begin to untie the knots in your stomach—slow the racing of your heart. He is your truest friend—and the spirit he brings, dispenses our fears bringing in his power and love to meet our shame and fear.
