Speaker:

Hey, welcome to Friday's edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

2

:

June 7th.

3

:

That's right.

4

:

2024.

5

:

That's right.

6

:

Welcome.

7

:

Y'all come back now.

8

:

You hear to the podcast.

9

:

That's right.

10

:

You know, it's not my first rodeo anymore.

11

:

You went to the rodeo.

12

:

I went to Salinas rodeo, which if you

see, if you look at how the city's

13

:

name is spelled it's C E L I N a, which

looks like Selena, understandably,

14

:

some people are going to say Selena.

15

:

And some people have told me that

they haven't a good authority,

16

:

that it actually is Selena.

17

:

That's the way I supposed to pronounce it.

18

:

But I can also tell you that's not the

way anyone in Selena pronounces it.

19

:

So who told you this?

20

:

Well, someone who said,

look, I looked it up.

21

:

I asked a local and this person or

that person, Hey, actually, I've

22

:

had two people say this to me.

23

:

So it's more than one, uh, less than five.

24

:

But more than one.

25

:

I think two, probably two.

26

:

I couldn't tell you who they were though.

27

:

Because it has been months now, but

I've, I've listened and I've learned and

28

:

I've figured out no one calls it Selena.

29

:

Unless you, unless you

want to get corrected.

30

:

Anyway, I went to their, their, uh,

Salinas rodeo, their first ever.

31

:

So it's their inaugural, but it was in the

city of Parker, which just for your rough

32

:

and dirty, rough and dirty estimation,

you're at about 45 minutes away.

33

:

I don't understand that.

34

:

I thought I was buying Selena rodeo

tickets that were going to be in Selena.

35

:

That made sense to me.

36

:

If I had known that they're gonna

be in Parker, I probably wouldn't

37

:

have done it, but that set.

38

:

It was so much fun.

39

:

I be a rodeo clown.

40

:

Now I am going to be a rodeo clown.

41

:

And in fact, It was great,

except for that the rodeo.

42

:

I don't know what they call it.

43

:

I guess he was a rodeo clown.

44

:

Mixed jokes during the thing.

45

:

Um, Some of his jokes were off-putting.

46

:

Well, the rodeo clowns are the

ones that distract the bowls.

47

:

Okay.

48

:

Ryder gets thrown off.

49

:

Well, there was a guy dressed like a

clown who would make jokes with, uh,

50

:

with the guy, kinda the MC he would make.

51

:

Make jokes with EMC kind of in the

transitions or between different things.

52

:

And so he'd make some jokes and they

were, I guess they were funny ish.

53

:

They were family friendly.

54

:

I'm using air quotes here.

55

:

Except they were kind of disparaging

about marriage and, you know, I left my

56

:

wife in the ditch kind of kind of jokes.

57

:

Yeah.

58

:

And people laugh because yeah.

59

:

Once again, air quotes, family friendly,

all that said I didn't like that.

60

:

So I could do that job and hopefully

improve upon the, the humor.

61

:

But other than that, man, The, the

stunts and the whole vibe I was,

62

:

I was kind of digging it, man.

63

:

Yeah, no, it's cool, man.

64

:

It is cool.

65

:

So the, the rodeo clowns though,

so the ones that, so the, the

66

:

rider gets bucked off the boat.

67

:

Rodeo clown gets in there

and distracts the bowl.

68

:

So the rider can get out safely.

69

:

Meanwhile, bolt the bulls

going after the rodeo.

70

:

Clown.

71

:

Yeah.

72

:

How much do you think they make?

73

:

I looked this up cause

I was curious about it.

74

:

Let's see, that's a, that's a

very dangerous job and typically

75

:

dangerous jobs pay more.

76

:

But it's only for a few minutes at a time.

77

:

So.

78

:

15 minutes.

79

:

For one event, I'm going to say they make.

80

:

Thousand bucks.

81

:

Okay.

82

:

So annually.

83

:

Th those guys make annual.

84

:

Oh, okay.

85

:

I mean, how many do they do a year?

86

:

What's the irony?

87

:

No idea.

88

:

That's important information.

89

:

But this is like the PBR

professional bull riders association.

90

:

So this is like the MLB.

91

:

Yeah.

92

:

Well, I don't know if the bull ride,

if they're clowns are, but this is the.

93

:

The premier crop.

94

:

Okay.

95

:

A year, a year, 50,000.

96

:

Uh, close 55 to $60,000.

97

:

Okay.

98

:

To dance in front of a bull

and be like, Hey, come get me.

99

:

Instead of the guy on the ground.

100

:

I do it as a side hustle.

101

:

Dude.

102

:

Those bowls are massive too.

103

:

Are one of them look like Arnold

Schwartzenegger in his prime.

104

:

Yeah, that guy had muscles upon muscles.

105

:

I was like, how did they breed this dude?

106

:

Crazy.

107

:

The guy was just like flexing on people.

108

:

Yeah.

109

:

And why do they buck like that?

110

:

Pastor PJ?

111

:

Well, they do it because there's a strap

around their hindquarters and that strap

112

:

is tightened on the animal and that

strap has some burrs in it that are

113

:

less than comfortable for the animals.

114

:

So.

115

:

Right before they open up the gate, that

strap is tightened and then they opened

116

:

up the gate and the rider goes out and

that's, what's causing him to buck.

117

:

It really has nothing to do

with the guy in the back.

118

:

That's why the bowl keeps bucking

after the writer's office.

119

:

Right, right.

120

:

Yeah.

121

:

He doesn't care about flying, right.

122

:

It doesn't even feel right now he's angry.

123

:

So if he sees the rider after he's

bucked off, he's going to go after him.

124

:

You were the one riding me, right?

125

:

Coming after you buddy.

126

:

But they have to go in and

pull the release strap.

127

:

And that's what calms the bowl down.

128

:

I noticed that that's really cool.

129

:

I mean it.

130

:

I was fascinated.

131

:

I loved it.

132

:

I was enthralled.

133

:

Yeah, it's a cool thing, man.

134

:

It is a really cool thing.

135

:

I almost almost bought you a belt buckle.

136

:

Cause I know your birthday's coming up.

137

:

It was a Salinas in our group.

138

:

Almost, I think it was gold plated.

139

:

Yeah.

140

:

I'm like, oh, this will be really funny.

141

:

You know what wasn't funny.

142

:

The price tag, 150 bucks.

143

:

Funny was not 150 bucks funny.

144

:

I was like, you know, it was funny.

145

:

It's not funny anymore.

146

:

Yeah.

147

:

So we can have gold-plated I

watched a, or saw a YouTube video.

148

:

I watched part of it and I was

like, why am I watching this?

149

:

Jerry rigs, everything.

150

:

They're gold plated.

151

:

Uh, Tesla cyber truck for

the rage wallet company.

152

:

And I guess.

153

:

Just giving it away.

154

:

$60,000 to gold plate, this,

this cyber, a lot of gold.

155

:

I'd be afraid to have that part anywhere.

156

:

Right?

157

:

Like.

158

:

Anyway, Hey, come steal this.

159

:

Yeah, shoot me.

160

:

I have money.

161

:

Yeah.

162

:

Whoever they're giving it away.

163

:

It's like, what are you

going to do with that?

164

:

You'd have to put it in a

showroom and, and lock it down.

165

:

I would put it in my living room.

166

:

On a, on a rotating platform.

167

:

Just sell it.

168

:

No, I'd put them on living room.

169

:

Yeah.

170

:

When people come over to take pictures.

171

:

I agree to disagree.

172

:

Okay.

173

:

Proverbs 13 through 15.

174

:

Let's get into the Bible.

175

:

All right.

176

:

All right.

177

:

Again, remember we are in this

section where there's more of these

178

:

assortments of these pithy Proverbs,

but not necessarily are they

179

:

bound in any sort of thematic way.

180

:

So we'll go through and, uh,

and make a couple of notes here.

181

:

Look at verse 11, wealth gained hastily

will dwindle, but whoever gathers

182

:

little by little will increase it.

183

:

I thought about that.

184

:

That's interesting.

185

:

Wealth gained hastily will dwindle.

186

:

Why, why, why would that be?

187

:

Well, I think the answer is because

you don't really appreciate the hard

188

:

work that goes into amassing it.

189

:

Whereas, if you are diligent to work

hard and to save little by little,

190

:

then, uh, you're gonna feel the, the.

191

:

The hurt to spend that a lot more.

192

:

Cause you know, the amount

of work that went into that.

193

:

So I think this is just

wisdom that's going out there.

194

:

There's not necessarily.

195

:

Sinful, uh,

196

:

Actions and view here, although we can

be sinful in the way that we spend our

197

:

money, but it's not necessarily sinful.

198

:

If you get an inheritance that you

might take that inheritance and go

199

:

buy a house, well, that money has

gone to hastily, but maybe that's a

200

:

good thing that you bought the house.

201

:

Right.

202

:

But you're not going to feel

it the same way that you would.

203

:

If you were saving up for your

whole life to buy your first house.

204

:

And, you know, all the hard

work that went into that.

205

:

Have you ever heard of the lottery

at the lottery winners curse?

206

:

Aye.

207

:

Thank you familiar, right?

208

:

Yeah.

209

:

The idea here is that by March

people who win the lottery, they

210

:

gained this incredible fortune

in a short period of time.

211

:

They all end up losing it going

bankrupt, and most of them die.

212

:

Yeah.

213

:

And that crazy.

214

:

Yeah.

215

:

The word, the wisdom of God telling us

why, why it is at least in part here,

216

:

wealth gained hastily will dwindle.

217

:

And part of the reason why is,

I think, as you were saying

218

:

here, you didn't work for it.

219

:

You didn't earn it.

220

:

You didn't learn how to handle it.

221

:

And so when you actually have it, you're

not gonna know how to keep it right.

222

:

I think that principle and concept

applies to so many different things.

223

:

I'm thinking about a weight loss surgery.

224

:

I really enjoy, and it was

kind of a guilty confession.

225

:

The my 700 pound life.

226

:

And it's one of my things.

227

:

I just enjoy it.

228

:

I'll watch it.

229

:

Oh, I'm fascinated by it.

230

:

There's this human height psychology,

the way that they get there and often

231

:

the way they get there, there's some

predictable patterns and it's really sad.

232

:

So I don't want to bring it up, but they

get there for one reason or another.

233

:

And, you know, they

weigh this many pounds.

234

:

And so part of their weight loss

journey is that they'll go and

235

:

they'll get this stomach tying

surgery where they have a very small

236

:

stomach and they can eat as much.

237

:

Uh, but the doctor is always going

to say, look, you need to show me

238

:

that you're willing to do this by

losing the first 50, a hundred pounds.

239

:

And many of them are unable

to, they can't even control

240

:

themselves to do it for six months.

241

:

And he says, if you can't do it

now, you're not going to do it

242

:

after when you have a small stomach.

243

:

Cause you can always fight against that

and expand your stomach again and be

244

:

in the same issue that you were before.

245

:

So the principle exists and

it's, it's helpful on a whole.

246

:

A lot of levels.

247

:

If you didn't work for it, you're

gonna have a hard time keeping it.

248

:

If someone gives it to you outright,

which is why our kitchen work.

249

:

Yeah.

250

:

Yeah, that just, yeah.

251

:

Kids should work.

252

:

Yeah.

253

:

Josh has a first job and he's working

hard at the summer months, man.

254

:

Yeah.

255

:

Okay.

256

:

Great.

257

:

Yeah, my kids still trying to get a job.

258

:

Yeah.

259

:

I think Josh is trying to

get him a job with him.

260

:

Actually.

261

:

It would be great.

262

:

That'd be great.

263

:

And also maybe a little

bit dangerous probably.

264

:

Yeah.

265

:

Hey.

266

:

Uh, verse 13, whoever despises, the word

brings destruction on himself, but he who

267

:

reveres the commandment will be rewarded.

268

:

Um, and so there's a, uh, admonition

from the old Testament about the value

269

:

of paying attention to the word of God,

paying attention to the scriptures.

270

:

Uh, obeying it and not despising it.

271

:

And there's a reward in

obeying the word of God.

272

:

Uh, 1320 talk about 1320 per pastor rod.

273

:

You've got the shirt on right now.

274

:

Proverbs 1320.

275

:

Talk about that verse.

276

:

We love this verse.

277

:

This is our, one of our theme verses

for our most recent men's retreats.

278

:

It says this whoever walks

with the wise becomes wise.

279

:

But a companion of fools will suffer.

280

:

Harm, speaks to the importance of

relationships and the influential

281

:

power that relationships have.

282

:

Uh, someone who walks with people or

books that are wise will become wise.

283

:

That's going to bleed off.

284

:

It's going to influence and

affect the way that person thinks.

285

:

Um, Conversely, the companion

of fools will suffer harm.

286

:

Uh, the, the natural consequence

of being around people that don't

287

:

love the Lord that don't love you

is that they're going to have a

288

:

negative impact on your life now.

289

:

I know some people are going to see

this and say, well, does that mean

290

:

that I shouldn't be friends with

non-Christians that I shouldn't have a,

291

:

you know, neighbors who are Muslims or

Jehovah's witnesses or what have you,

292

:

how might you respond to that pastor BJ?

293

:

I would say.

294

:

No, that's not what this is saying.

295

:

Again, the rest of scripture has

to help us interpret scripture.

296

:

But what this is saying

is your closest friends.

297

:

The ones that have the greatest

hold or greatest influence on your

298

:

life, those should be believers.

299

:

That's right.

300

:

And I'll stand by that.

301

:

At the end of the day.

302

:

I mean, your closest friends need

to be people that, that are going to

303

:

spend eternity with you in heaven.

304

:

Uh, not those that are enemies of God.

305

:

So if you have friends that are

unbelievers, is that a bad thing?

306

:

No.

307

:

In fact, you could argue, we should

have relationships with unbelievers.

308

:

That's part of why we're still

here to be salt and light, right?

309

:

But, uh, the, the go-to, those that

are, are around you and the Mo the most

310

:

intimate companions that you have, the

ones that you look to for counsel or

311

:

guidance, they need to be Christians.

312

:

Yeah, I've, I've read the.

313

:

It's just old saying, I'm

not sure who said it first.

314

:

I'm sure.

315

:

Someone way back when, but they

would say something like you are the

316

:

average of your five closest friends.

317

:

Uh, you, that you were

going to become like them.

318

:

And I think.

319

:

I mean life experience so far attest

to that being more or less true.

320

:

Have you seen that in your life?

321

:

Yeah, I think so.

322

:

I think so.

323

:

And that's.

324

:

Probably what this is.

325

:

Speaking of here, be around people

that are godly, high quality people

326

:

that love the Lord that have your

CX both spiritually and physically.

327

:

And try to minimize the you're being

around fools that are going to harm you.

328

:

Now, I would extend this beyond people.

329

:

I mean, I think about social media

accounts that you follow movies,

330

:

that you watch, books that you read.

331

:

There's so many ways that you

can be influenced by them without

332

:

being in their physical presence.

333

:

I think it's probably worse

today than it's ever been.

334

:

Yeah, I think this also applies.

335

:

To those, listening to this who may be

single, I'm looking at getting married.

336

:

This certainly is something

to consider with marriage.

337

:

Um, not just.

338

:

About believer, unbeliever, certainly

as Christians, we are under a biblical

339

:

obligation to marry believers that that is

God's design, that, that we would not be

340

:

unequally yoked, but that we would marry.

341

:

One believer, marrying another believer.

342

:

But the second thing is too.

343

:

Um, There's a level of,

of variants and maturity.

344

:

That if, if you are a spiritually mature

person, the spouse that you are seeking

345

:

should also be a spiritual, mature person.

346

:

You don't want to marry somebody

who may be believer, but who is.

347

:

Immature in their faith or even it has

foolish tendencies about them because

348

:

they are going to influence you.

349

:

Is that all.

350

:

Youth group illustration of it's

easier to be pulled off the chair.

351

:

To pull somebody up out of the chair.

352

:

Um, and so, yeah.

353

:

I run with the runners, that

whole idea, as you, as you're

354

:

looking for a spouse in life.

355

:

Look for somebody that's pace, keeping

pace with you spiritually speaking.

356

:

And that's somebody that God

is bringing into your life.

357

:

That seems like a really

hard person to find.

358

:

I mean, I agree with you.

359

:

I agree with you, but is there.

360

:

I mean, is there an amount of

disparity that you would say is

361

:

acceptable, like a plus or minus 20%?

362

:

I mean, cause there's not,

I mean, For real though.

363

:

It'd be hard to find someone

exactly where you are.

364

:

Sure.

365

:

Even within your own church, you're

going to have people that are further.

366

:

Behind this or that.

367

:

And by spiritual maturity, we don't

mean, Hey, they've got to know

368

:

the, the doctrines of the tulip.

369

:

They've got to be able

to define these things.

370

:

But, and, and, you know, even

the world understands this too.

371

:

Right.

372

:

And, and ladies, I think this is

something that perhaps you all struggle

373

:

with a little bit more than the men do.

374

:

You got to marry the person that,

that they are not the person

375

:

that you want them to become.

376

:

And so I think spiritually speaking,

there's going to be a, a, a natural

377

:

progression in spiritual maturity,

but you also have to understand that.

378

:

At least initially in your marriage,

you're marrying this person as

379

:

they are, and God may grow them.

380

:

And Lord willing, they

will mature spiritually.

381

:

But, uh, if you're looking at this

person going well, I know I love them.

382

:

And, and, and especially we wrestled

with this a lot with college ministry,

383

:

these ladies in, in college ministry

who were like, I don't want to date that

384

:

guy because I don't think he's going to

be a good spiritual leader in my life.

385

:

Yeah.

386

:

It's like, okay, well, that's fair.

387

:

That's a fair assessment, but you also

have to, to look around and find that

388

:

guy that you do think is going to be a

spiritual leader in your life and not

389

:

think, well, eventually he'll be that way.

390

:

Well, What if he's not.

391

:

Um, and so.

392

:

Yeah, I don't know.

393

:

That would you say that

trajectory also plays a role too?

394

:

Like yeah.

395

:

Marry them as they are.

396

:

Not as you hope that they

will be, but saying, okay.

397

:

Based on what I knew about this person,

their integrity, their character, their

398

:

patterns, their habits, their personality.

399

:

It seems like this is the

direction they're going.

400

:

And I want to get on that.

401

:

It's kind of like.

402

:

I'm marrying the vision.

403

:

I see what you're selling.

404

:

I want that that's the

direction I want to go.

405

:

That's what I want to do in my life.

406

:

Would you say that that

plays a role as well?

407

:

Or is this something different?

408

:

Yes.

409

:

I just think it's

dangerous to, to prospect.

410

:

Yeah.

411

:

Yeah, I suppose.

412

:

I guess what I'm, what, I'm what I

feel like I'm chafing against in that

413

:

concept is that no one is static.

414

:

Like everyone's changing all the time.

415

:

Yes.

416

:

And whether they change for the better

or for the worst, I mean, who knows?

417

:

Right.

418

:

That's the, that's the big question, mark.

419

:

You ultimately have to make a decision

based on who they are right now.

420

:

But I am saying.

421

:

My best guess at where we're going.

422

:

This is the that's the end point.

423

:

I don't want to build a castle upon that.

424

:

Cause it's sand, it's

ultimately my best guess.

425

:

But at the same time, I don't want to

say I'm only looking at who you are

426

:

right now without thinking what's this

going to mean for us in the future?

427

:

That's fair.

428

:

Yeah, I can agree with that.

429

:

Okay.

430

:

Yeah.

431

:

All right.

432

:

Chapter 14.

433

:

Wait real quick, real quick.

434

:

Nope.

435

:

We're done.

436

:

Whoever spares the rod.

437

:

You just wanted to say, Rob, I did.

438

:

Pause right there for dramatic effect.

439

:

Yes.

440

:

Whoever spares, the rod hates

his son, but he who loves him

441

:

is diligent to discipline him.

442

:

This is an unpopular one, but I think

what we hit on we've hit on it the

443

:

last time we're gonna hit on it again.

444

:

We got to talk.

445

:

Let's give a few seconds to this.

446

:

Talk about it.

447

:

Yeah.

448

:

Discipline disciplining your

children needs to have an impact.

449

:

Um, and physical discipline I

think is appropriate for children.

450

:

I think they, they understand that.

451

:

And so, I mean, for example, for

our kids, we started, I think with

452

:

flicking the hands when they were.

453

:

Super young, they would reach for

something they knew they weren't

454

:

supposed to we'd flick their hand

and they would feel the pain and.

455

:

I know.

456

:

Okay.

457

:

I'm going to punch.

458

:

Right.

459

:

Little pinch on the tush, right in.

460

:

And then it eventually

evolves to spanking.

461

:

And that's good because you want your kid

to associate that pain with that action.

462

:

I don't want.

463

:

Yeah.

464

:

Right.

465

:

I don't want to sin

because sin brings pain.

466

:

Sin brings consequence and

that's a biblical precept.

467

:

Uh, they don't, they're not in

12 by the spirit at a young age.

468

:

And so you can't trust that the

spirit is going to bring that

469

:

conviction on their heart, but.

470

:

Um, Much like.

471

:

W like ourselves, we don't want.

472

:

Pain inflicted in our life.

473

:

So we're going to avoid

pain as much as we can.

474

:

And so you can teach a child to

avoid a pain by avoiding sin.

475

:

And that's a good thing.

476

:

Man notice the way that, the words

that here, whoever spares the rod,

477

:

whoever doesn't give it hates the kit.

478

:

Uh, we often, I mean, I hate

doing this and I, I mean,

479

:

we're, we're still got littles.

480

:

And so we're still in the process of this.

481

:

Uh, we, we do it in a way that

I'm trusting what this word

482

:

says, because in the moment I was

like, I don't want to do this.

483

:

Right.

484

:

This is awful.

485

:

I hate this.

486

:

I hate this process.

487

:

And I tell them that, like,

I don't, I don't like this.

488

:

This is not something we want to do.

489

:

This is that we're doing

this because we love you.

490

:

And we don't want you to,

to think that sin in any way

491

:

brings positive consequences.

492

:

So for any of us who naturally are

inclined to away from this, maybe

493

:

you weren't spanked as a child.

494

:

I was spanked.

495

:

Were you saying pastor PJ?

496

:

I was spanked and I turned out okay.

497

:

For the most part, except for the baggage

that I take with my therapist every

498

:

week, besides that I'm just kidding.

499

:

I don't see a therapist.

500

:

But I was spanked and things are not okay.

501

:

Am I, I know for a fact, My

parents intended to do it.

502

:

Well, they did not do it well,

but I know they loved me and

503

:

they wanted to do it for my best.

504

:

And I turned out okay.

505

:

Um, I remember that and I try to avoid

the excesses and the abuses that I know

506

:

are possible in order to say, what's

the Bible, say the biblical pattern.

507

:

And spanking your kids

is, is an act of love.

508

:

If you can do it that way.

509

:

Now, if you're angry or you're

feeling violent or whatever,

510

:

you're, you're intoxicated.

511

:

Hopefully that's not the case, but

don't obviously don't do it there.

512

:

Right?

513

:

You can do it wrongly, but loving

your kid means that you're diligent

514

:

to discipline you work hard at that.

515

:

Now, remember this is in the Proverbs.

516

:

So that doesn't mean that it's a.

517

:

Like you should do this until they're 25.

518

:

Um, it takes wisdom to apply wisdom,

and that means applying this at the

519

:

right place at the right time and on the

right space on their body, by the way.

520

:

Um, we're we're in favor of the

backside where there's lots of factors.

521

:

Yeah, that the dish or the Kush.

522

:

Um, where it makes sense.

523

:

Other places, the body is

probably not a good, a good idea.

524

:

It becomes potentially if

not altogether abusive.

525

:

So.

526

:

Heads up on that.

527

:

Yep.

528

:

All right, chapter 14.

529

:

Now we can go to 14.

530

:

All right.

531

:

Good.

532

:

Look at verse two.

533

:

Uh, whoever walks in

uprightness fears, the Lord.

534

:

Okay.

535

:

We get that.

536

:

But look at the second part, whoever

is devious in his ways, despises him.

537

:

I mean, our sin can convey that

we not only are disobedient,

538

:

but that we are despising the

Lord that we hate the Lord that.

539

:

That's waiting to think

of our sin that way.

540

:

And that's, that's a good thing for

us to, to think rightly about CNN.

541

:

And to see the ugliness there in.

542

:

Um, Verse 12.

543

:

There's a way that seems right to a man,

but in the end, its way leads to death.

544

:

This speaks to the necessary

humility that we need to be able

545

:

to say, okay, I think this, this is

right, this is what I want to do.

546

:

This is what I think will make me happy,

but then we need to hold it up to God's

547

:

word to say, is this the right way?

548

:

And if it's not, then we need to

be willing to let that go because

549

:

the danger is, if we keep pursuing

that and it's sinful, it's wrong,

550

:

then the dangerous it's going to

lead to, uh, ultimate destruction.

551

:

Lito ultimate death.

552

:

Uh, verse 27, uh, The fear of

the Lord is a fountain of life.

553

:

Just again, the connection of obedience of

the scriptures and the provision of life

554

:

that's found there in its so, uh, helpful.

555

:

Encouragement there.

556

:

Uh, verse 29.

557

:

Talk about being slow to anger

and our understanding Pescara.

558

:

Being slow to anger and having

great understanding is good.

559

:

You should do those things with that.

560

:

Yeah.

561

:

Is that what you're looking for?

562

:

Yeah.

563

:

Being slow to anger is, is such a it's.

564

:

Repeated so many times in the book of

Proverbs and it's such an important

565

:

thing for us not to be angry people.

566

:

And I think more often than

not, this is something that men

567

:

struggle with probably totally.

568

:

Um, and there there's a book

to an acceptable sin, right?

569

:

Yeah.

570

:

Uh, Respectable sins.

571

:

Respectable since there is outrageous.

572

:

Uh, but there's another

one specifically on anger.

573

:

Um, Oh, Bob Jones.

574

:

Yes.

575

:

Um, uprooting anger.

576

:

Thank you.

577

:

Yes.

578

:

Great book.

579

:

If this is an area that you

find yourself struggling with.

580

:

Uh, I would commend that book to you.

581

:

I think it's excellent.

582

:

Maybe you even want to go through that

book with another brother in Christ.

583

:

Yeah.

584

:

Uh, hired sharpening iron.

585

:

Uh, let me add this.

586

:

I find, I find it very interesting,

insightful that the PR the proverb

587

:

connects slowness to anger with

understanding that is you see something

588

:

and you understand things that

someone else who's quick to anger.

589

:

Doesn't see you understand.

590

:

Your able to perceive that perhaps

the reason that you'd be tempted

591

:

to be angry is because you're

not seeing the whole picture.

592

:

And I think that's often the way

that anger works as it, as it kind of

593

:

percolates in our soul, we're taking

offense to something we're seeing

594

:

some kind of slight or perceiving in

any way that actually isn't there.

595

:

We're just so short-sighted.

596

:

And so, so small and our perspective

that we're quick to unleash on somebody.

597

:

When in reality, if we would take a

few moments to think through what's

598

:

happening and why it's happening,

we'd probably diffuse the anger.

599

:

Yeah.

600

:

Yeah.

601

:

Well, and that's the very next

verse in verse 30, a tranquil heart

602

:

gives life to the flesh that, that

what you're just describing there.

603

:

That's what comes to mind with that

tranquility to that, that peacefulness,

604

:

that ability to, to take a beat.

605

:

To evaluate things, to think through

things, because I do have an inner peace.

606

:

I'm not churned up already inside

and in prone towards outburst and

607

:

prone towards anger to begin with.

608

:

Right.

609

:

Yeah.

610

:

All right.

611

:

Chapter 15.

612

:

And I know we're skipping

over a lot and we apologize.

613

:

Sorry.

614

:

Sorry, just for sake of time.

615

:

Be here all day.

616

:

Uh, chapter 15, verse one.

617

:

We were just talking about anger,

a soft answer, turns away wrath,

618

:

but a harsh word stirs up anger.

619

:

This is something that is, is again,

one of those things, the classic, uh,

620

:

helpful for us to remember as we're

engaging with somebody who may be angry.

621

:

If we are calm and our response, that's

a great way to diffuse the anger.

622

:

But if, if we are sharp,

if we are harsh, if we are.

623

:

If we raise our voice in response to them.

624

:

It's it's going to just

pour fuel on the fire.

625

:

And then.

626

:

Verse three.

627

:

The eyes of the Lord are in every

place, keeping watch on the evil and

628

:

the good speaking to the omniscience

of God that he knows all things.

629

:

The omnipresence of God, that

he is everywhere all at once.

630

:

And so there's nowhere that we

can go someone 39 there's nowhere

631

:

that we can hide from the Lord.

632

:

He sees all things and we do live

corn Dale before the face of God.

633

:

Plus rod thoughts on, uh, on

some of the verses in chapter 15.

634

:

Yeah, I like verse 16 here better is a

little with the fear of the Lord than

635

:

great treasure with and trouble with it.

636

:

That is to say it's better to have

a contented existence with maybe.

637

:

Maybe, because you're not willing to

cheat the system, maybe because you're

638

:

not willing to use underhanded tactics.

639

:

You're not going to make as much money

as the next guy or the next woman.

640

:

But it's better to have a

little and fear the Lord.

641

:

Then they have a wealth and

treasure and always have trouble.

642

:

Always looking over your shoulder.

643

:

Always wondering when the

IRS is going to audit.

644

:

Always wondering if the accounting is

going to find out what you're doing.

645

:

No, it's better just to have

what you have and to be content

646

:

with what God has given you.

647

:

Now verse 17, I think connects

with this idea better as a dinner

648

:

of herbs where there's love.

649

:

Then where you have a fat knocks,

you have the best steak in town.

650

:

And you're sitting next to

people that you just can't stand.

651

:

Uh, scripture teaches that it's good to

accept your lot in life to be okay with

652

:

the fact that you don't have the mansion.

653

:

You don't have the six car garage.

654

:

You don't have what the next guy has,

but what you do have is love, and

655

:

you have a fear of the Lord, man, if

you have those things, you're rich.

656

:

And a salad.

657

:

And it sounds good too.

658

:

So hopefully you put a couple of

chicken breast pieces on it, but yeah.

659

:

Yeah.

660

:

Yeah.

661

:

How about verse 14?

662

:

The heart of him who has

understanding seeks knowledge, but

663

:

the mouth of fools feed on folly.

664

:

I wrote down next to this social media.

665

:

That so often it's, it's easy

to see something on social media

666

:

and then just run with it rather

than saying, okay, wait a minute.

667

:

Is this true?

668

:

Is it true?

669

:

Right.

670

:

I need to figure out.

671

:

This is really true, right.

672

:

It's fake news.

673

:

And that goes on both sides of

the aisle on that one, but just

674

:

a social media warning there.

675

:

Um, yeah.

676

:

Verse 18.

677

:

Again, anger isn't view here.

678

:

A hot tempered man, stirs up

strife, but he who is slow

679

:

to anger, quiets contention.

680

:

That'd be great for us to

be known by as a church.

681

:

That is, is one where, where

peace is kept and where pieces of

682

:

media did well and effectively.

683

:

And for us to be that we gotta be a

church full of people that are slow

684

:

to anger and, uh, enabled us to really

consider things and weigh things well,

685

:

I like, I think verse 28 connects

with that concept, the heart of the

686

:

righteous ponders, how to answer.

687

:

But the mouth of the

wicked just pours out evil.

688

:

Oh.

689

:

And he pours out evil things.

690

:

Uh, it's kind of, I think of

pardon the term, but I know

691

:

people get diarrhea of the mouth.

692

:

It just says things.

693

:

Yeah, nobody likes that person because

that person just unthinkingly just

694

:

gives a bunch of nonsense, but the

heart of a righteous person ponders how

695

:

to answer, which again, if you think

about the heart it's, it's the center,

696

:

the governor of the whole person.

697

:

And that governor is constantly

filtering and considering and weighing

698

:

the best response to a situation.

699

:

I think that's helpful.

700

:

And even though you probably could

overthink that, I think that's the danger.

701

:

I don't think the wise person is

overthinking, but I do think they

702

:

think more than the average person.

703

:

Yeah.

704

:

Yeah.

705

:

Verse 32, whoever ignores

instruction, despises himself.

706

:

So note that there, that just

from a self-interest perspective,

707

:

sanctified self-interest wants more.

708

:

Yup.

709

:

It's wise to listen to instruction.

710

:

That's all I got.

711

:

You got anything else?

712

:

I mean, I know there's more,

but anything else specific?

713

:

Uh, no.

714

:

No, no, I guess that's efficient.

715

:

I'm sure that they would

probably want us to wrap it up.

716

:

Well, that's why we're going

to do this again next year,

717

:

because we'll hit it again next

year and we'll have more to say.

718

:

Hey, keep, bring your Bibles tune

in again tomorrow for another

719

:

episode of the daily Bible podcast.

720

:

But.
