Transcripts

Speaker:

Welcome back to

“Irresistible Communication”.

2

:

Two minutes, twice a week.

3

:

No nonsense advice on

leadership communication.

4

:

Perfectionism has a bad

reputation and for a reason.

5

:

But that doesn't mean that you

shouldn't pay attention to detail.

6

:

Attention to detail is not the

same thing as perfectionism.

7

:

You can value the former and

still beware of the latter.

8

:

Attention to detail means caring for the

little things and getting those right.

9

:

It's about taking the time

that's required to make it just

10

:

right, not perfectly right.

11

:

When you pay attention to detail,

you’ll commit to shipping,

12

:

but refuse to rush a job.

13

:

Perfectionism is different.

14

:

It means that you don't

care about time at all.

15

:

You can’t because you will

only ship when it's perfect.

16

:

It takes as long as it takes,

which is probably forever.

17

:

That's why as a perfectionist,

you can't commit to shipping.

18

:

Ultimately perfectionist don't

really care for the thing.

19

:

But more for themselves.

20

:

They want to spare themselves the

embarrassment of shipping something

21

:

that leaves space for criticism.

22

:

They hate criticism.

23

:

Paying attention to detail shifts the

focus away from yourself and onto the

24

:

experience of your audience, which

can’t happen when you don't ship.

25

:

So, which camp are you in?

26

:

Are you a perfectionist or do

you pay attention to detail?

27

:

Keep lighting the path and
