Rock Legends, Vocal Techniques, and Tour Antics

In a casual, conversational setting, the speakers discuss various topics related to music and films. They start by mentioning the movie 'Diner' and Steven Guttenberg, segueing into a confusion between Guttenberg and Rick Moranis' incident in New York. Attention then shifts to documentaries about Bon Jovi, Nickelback, and Duran Duran, highlighting the fashion, music, and evolution of these bands. They share personal anecdotes related to attending concerts and the desire to sneak a peek at band equipment. The conversation further explores vocal maintenance techniques used by aging rock stars like Jon Bon Jovi, Lindsey Buckingham, and Sammy Hagar, emphasizing the need for care and adaptation over time. They also discuss guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, analyzing their precision and technical skills. The dialogue wraps up with excitement over Sammy Hagar's upcoming tour and his dedication to performing, even including Van Halen songs in his set.

[:

[00:00:19] chris: Sure. Whatever happened to Steve Guttenberg? I don't know. He's around, I'm sure. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if he went to, like, the theater or what. And then just, yeah. Police academies and went, Oh, I'm good probably made

[:

[00:00:33] sherry: Oh shit. Rick Moranis

[:

[00:00:35] sherry: That's who it was. Nevermind. It wasn't

[:

[00:00:38] sherry: Why just for random or

[:

[00:00:43] sherry: I was thinking it was, yes, that's you're absolutely right. Cause he was making a movie or something. And, and then that happened to his

[:

[00:00:52] chris: He retired. Take care of these years ago. Yeah.

[:

[00:00:59] phil: We were [00:01:00] watching a little bit of the Bon Jovi documentary. Yeah, is that any good? It's good. I

[:

[00:01:05] phil: But. It's not as good as Nickelback. Whatever. There it is. Nice. Nice. Right in there. But, they show clips from the early 80s when Bon Jovi was huge and, They got the hair and they got the fucking spandex and it's like, come on, what were we thinking?

[:

[00:01:24] sherry: watch the Duran Duran documentary. That one is even, I can't even understand [00:01:30] half of what they're saying because they're, you know, British and it's not their accent. It's the words that they use. I'm not used to some of the, their language, you know, some of the lingo or whatever.

[:

[00:01:48] chris: All right. And Duran. Sherry's going to be on her deathbed. She's like. Philip, Philip, come here and have you lean in real close. Yeah, Sherry? Nickleback. I don't know. You joke, [00:02:00] but, uh. You know.

[:

[00:02:05] sherry: If

[:

[00:02:12] sherry: might not know about it. I might just take off. Okay. We were standing up after the concert. And we had, it was in the casino. So we'd been in the casino, we'd eaten and we'd stayed and played.

[:

[00:02:35] phil: It's truck and roll. Yeah.

[:

[00:02:45] sherry: It says truck and roll. I bet it is there. Sure enough. We saw it in the documentary. We saw that truck and I saw it on something else. I was watching us all truck and roll. And when we got in the elevator, we were going up to where we [00:03:00] parked. I was like, can we go down?

[:

[00:03:03] sherry: I said, can I go to that in the basement?

[:

[00:03:22] james: Oh, the band never touches their equipment.

[:

[00:03:27] james: The band plays, sets down the guitar, [00:03:30] get into a van and they're gone.

[:

[00:03:39] james: Each member has their own bus.

[:

[00:03:48] phil: That's it. That's exactly

[:

[00:03:53] james: go. If you can afford it, it's the way to go. It really, and they can afford it. That's what kept [00:04:00] the Eagles together. So damn long, we're breaking up. Okay.

[:

[00:04:05] sherry: is one thing about the documentary that shows that they started out in a van. All of them and, you know, even for Duran Duran, they all had a car. I couldn't believe they all fit in that little car. And I'm like, where did they put their equipment?

[:

[00:04:23] james: It's tight. It's sleeping with the seatbelt wrapped around your.

[:

[00:04:42] phil: Yeah Hours before they go on.

[:

[00:04:47] phil: a problem.

[:

[00:04:50] phil: Not good. Yeah. I've heard it. I

[:

[00:04:56] phil: Yes. What I heard.

[:

[00:05:02] sherry: He's he screams and yeah, but he said he still sounds

[:

[00:05:16] james: Dave Mustaine from Megadeth eats potato chips to get that voice.

[:

[00:05:24] sherry: Really?

[:

[00:05:28] chris: and stuff.

[:

[00:05:31] phil: Yeah,

[:

[00:05:41] sherry: He still can reach those, those volumes and scream. And

[:

[00:06:04] phil: think I love Bon Jovi, but I think he probably ought to pack it in.

[:

[00:06:09] james: songwriter. He should just,

[:

[00:06:16] sherry: don't pass out, but Sammy Hagar is one of my favorite, I love his voice. Yeah. He's almost in his mid seventies. I think he is. Yeah. And he's, from what I understand, he's getting ready to go on tour.

[:

[00:06:29] james: is [00:06:30] Nickelback. There you go.

[:

[00:06:36] phil: Oh, you know where they're now? Well, they're supposed to be

[:

[00:06:39] sherry: Yeah. Let me pull 'em up. No, they're, they're going on tour tourer

[:

[00:06:43] sherry: to go on tour in Europe, so Sammy is now the focus.

[:

[00:06:47] sherry: Because he's gonna sing some even David Lee Roth songs.

[:

[00:06:50] phil: they're talking about doing Van Halen songs.

[:

[00:06:57] phil: David Lee Roth, not on tour. [00:07:00] They are not wanting that.

[:

[00:07:02] phil: But they, uh, a select few songs every now and

[:

[00:07:10] sherry: I'm talking about, he even hired some, y'all would know the guitarist. I don't know who he

[:

[00:07:16] sherry: That's who they hired?

[:

[00:07:20] sherry: I don't know. He hired someone he said that is so picky that they were playing some song. He, and he can play like Eddie.

[:

[00:07:30] phil: Crossroads. You ever seen Crossroads? And he's so picky.

[:

[00:07:34] phil: Steve Vai. Maybe it was Steve Vai. I'm getting confused. I don't know. Maybe it was Steve Vai. Maybe so. Satriani's a good guitarist. Satriani's

[:

[00:07:43] phil: did he? Okay. Maybe that's where I'm getting it. But

[:

[00:07:49] sherry: And they're like, where did you mess up? And it wasn't that it sounded bad. It was just, he didn't hit the note he wanted to. Yeah. Ah, here. And so he's very picky and, and he said he [00:08:00] can do anything that Eddie Van Halen could do.

[:

[00:08:06] james: It had Michael Anthony on bass. Yeah, yeah. And him singing, I forget who the drummer was. They had, they had Bon

[:

[00:08:12] james: Jason. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they have played together with Satriani, so that may be him, but there's a lot of guitar players out there that can just Oh, yeah, yeah. Smoke everybody. So that's

[:

[00:08:22] sherry: There's a lot that can play like Eddie Van, I mean. Eddie Van Halen, however, this guy is [00:08:30] like a perfectionist.

[:

[00:08:33] sherry: want to be a

[:

[00:08:36] sherry: okay. So

[:

[00:08:38] sherry: forward, we're going to hear Sammy. Okay,
