About the Host:

Ray Bourcier - Stay-at-home father, husband, author, podcaster

A college and university environmental science graduate, Ray grew up in a toxic family and a toxic situation in Northern Ontario, Canada. As a result, he experienced the first of many PTSD events at age five, which would begin his nearly three-decade struggle with anxiety and depression.

Spending most of his life in survival mode without support, he eventually discovered and developed ways to overcome his struggles when nothing else worked.

With a passion for helping others, he made it his mission to help transform the lives and impact the worlds of eleven million people so they too can give their best to themselves, their loved ones, and their career.

An ancient Chinese proverb that Ray loves states, "To know the road ahead, ask those coming back." Ray is on the road back to offer you the support you need every step on your journey so that you, too, will be on the same road back.  Ray believes that only those who've walked that road can truly understand the struggles that you go through.

Together, we will become the rising tide that lifts all boats.

Together, we are unstoppable.

In his off time, you can find Ray spending time with his daughter, reading books, watching hockey, and contemplating whether pineapple belongs on pizza.

Ray Bourcier:

Welcome to Episode One of from surviving to thriving. If you're a parent struggling with anxiety and depression, and feeling like you're in a constant state of survival mode, then this is the right place for you. I am Ray Bourcier, and I'm here to support you overcome your anxiety and depression. So you will get out of survival mode and start thriving. I'm honored and grateful to be here to join you today on your journey from surviving to thriving isn't just another podcast, we're not about information, you can get that anywhere. We're about transformation. And before we go any further, I want to acknowledge you for being here, Money comes and money goes. But time is the one commodity that you can never get back. So investing your time and energy in what serves you is your best investment that you can ever make. So my promise to you is that I will give you my best so that you will get the most out of your time investment.

Ray Bourcier:

Episode One will be a little bit different from future episodes, I want to provide you with what you can expect my story and why the heck you should even listen to me how I am here to serve you, and why you need to invest your time and energy into taking action with what we talk about. Let's get started showing what can you expect from surviving to thriving, you can expect my best to support you every Monday with a new episode. And new episodes will consist of different pieces of training, discussion, stories, tools, skills, and interviews with exceptional people who know the journey struggle and have overcome them to achieve great results.

Ray Bourcier:

Before we get into things any further, let's define overcome. See, overcome doesn't mean cure. I'm not a doctor, I'm not a licensed therapist, and I don't diagnose, cure, treat or anything related to the medical field. Well, I can't do anything about the biological side of things, I can help you take the right actions and provide you with the support that you need to no longer feel like you're stuck living life in survival mode. Instead, you can release those chains, overcome them, and take back control and head towards a better destination that serves you best. This podcast and our tribe aren't meant to replace therapy. But it's a great tool in your toolbox that can go hand in hand alongside it. Having said that, there's an ancient Chinese proverb that I love that says, to know the road ahead, ask those coming back. I believe that only those who have walked the road can truly know how the struggles feel. And maybe you feel the same way.

Ray Bourcier:

See, I'm passionate and driven to help support you because I walked the road alone for decades of my life. I lost decades of my life with these struggles. And now that I'm on my way back, living a life of gratitude for everything I've been through, I want to help you on your road ahead every step of the way, so that you too, will be on your way back alongside me. So that you too can thrive in a life of enjoyment and purpose, so that your bad days are few and far between. So you will have a life where you can control your reality and refuse to let the world around you dictate how you should feel or think. So that you can finally start giving yourself your best. So then you can give your best to your loved ones, your career, your dreams. And I want that for you. That's the reason you're here with me today. And that's the goal of my work. And by you being here allowing me to help you every step of the way. You're helping me achieve my goal and my dreams of transforming the lives and impacting the world of 11 million people. That may sound like a lofty goal, but there's a saying that says if you aim for the moon and miss you still find yourself amongst The stars. And together, you and I, we can achieve this. And I know you can do this, because I did it. And I'm just a regular person like you. And I'm not going to bore you with all the details about my story. So I'm going to keep it short.

Ray Bourcier:

At age five, I suffered the first of many PTSD instance in my life that set the wheels in motion for the next decades of my life. It all started so young that I never knew a life without anxiety, depression, fear, no self esteem, no self worth, no self confidence and no self validation. I always just thought this was how life had to be lived. Because no matter how many times I tried to overcome my struggles, nothing worked. Before we go any further, one of the things that you're going to notice what this show is that, unlike other podcasts, which talk at you, I do things differently. I'm talking with you, just like you and I were having a cup of coffee or a tea together. So hopefully that resonates with you. And it comes across that way. So in that spirit, do you mind if I'm vulnerable with you right now and share a personal story that ties into why I'm here with you, serving you right now. As a child, I grew up in a toxic environment, surrounded by a toxic family, experiencing physical, mental and emotional abuse. And as a young kid, I told myself that if I was ever to become a father, I would never bring a child into a toxic situation, a guy had been forced to grow up in. Now, let's fast forward to early 2013. I was finishing up full time studies at university while working a full time job that I hated. And at that time, the relationship between my wife and I was toxic. I had been making slow progress on my struggles for a number of years. But I was bringing the candle at both ends, to the point that everyone and everything in my life was getting the worst of me. Then came the news that we were expecting. It was a rough time. And a lot of that was due to my struggles, which were now magnified as one of my biggest nightmares was about to come true. Bringing an innocent child into another toxic environment. I remember one freezing late February Canadian evening, I was leaving work at night, and just sat inside my frozen car as it struggled to start. While waiting for the car to warm up and the windows to defrost. I laid my forehead down on the cold steering wheel. I had been happy that I was going to have my daughter, but had been struggling for weeks knowing that she was coming into an absolute nightmare. For most of my life, I had been putting off healing, constantly sweeping my garbage under the rug. The realization had started to set in that the time had come. It was put up or shut up time. Either I would take all the steps I needed to overcome my struggles with anxiety and depression and start to heal. Or I would be doing the one thing I swore to myself that I would never do. The cycle of toxicity had to end for her. And it had to end with me. Since then, I took my journey to the next level. And I haven't looked back. My daughter is experiencing the life that I have never got to experience growing up. And I'm doing my best to give myself my best. Which means I can become a better father, a better husband and make the world around us a better place for everyone by helping to transform the lives of those who still struggle with anxiety and depression. And maybe that resonates with you in some way. I was able to piece together what worked for me through trial and a heck of a lot of error to overcome my struggles when nothing else had worked. And I want that for you. To get the most out of each episode. There are two things you need to do. The first thing is to listen to each episode with an open mind because the A quickest way to close yourself off from growth and from learning and from transformation is to assume that you know something, because you start to tune out.

Ray Bourcier:

The reality is that knowing and doing are two different things. Because if you know something and you don't do it, then it's the exact same thing as not knowing. So please be open to new ideas, new perspectives, and things that you think you know, to get the most out of each episode. The second thing is to question everything. Please don't take everything I say with blind faith, especially if it's something that you wouldn't usually agree with. Because when something comes up that goes against your current belief, this is a perfect time for possible growth, because you get to examine your belief and the other belief. Take a look at your current belief and see if they're serving you. If not, then please be open to unlearning it and replacing it with something else that best serves you. If it serves you adopt it and go with it. If it doesn't simply release it. It's as simple as that. Not everything will work for everyone. And that is perfectly fine. There's no umbrella fixes, anxiety and depression are complex symptoms of complex problems. But that doesn't mean that you can't take back control and overcome them. Because I did and I know you will. Now I know I said there were two things. But there is a third thing which is the most important one. We'll be covering this in greater detail in the next episode, which is available for you right now. So if you haven't yet downloaded it, go and do that right now because in the next episode, we dive into the one method to overcome your struggles with anxiety and depression when you've tried everything else with little to no success. I'm grateful to have been able to serve you here today. And I'll see you in the next episode shortly to the journey much love
