Gallup's Elana Ron Levy says social support and feelings of loneliness strongly shape overall happiness. She points to subjective well-being, a term used since the 1980s. That idea says happiness comes from three parts: positive feelings, negative feelings, and life satisfaction. I think that matches what I see and what we talk about on the show. But I also say one person’s happiness can be another person’s hell. For me, happiness is fleeting and often just a moment that slips away. You might feel the same.
