The Rebbe looks at two stages of Bikkurim: the gratitude that begins as soon as the Jewish people enter Israel, and the fuller gratitude that comes only after they’ve conquered, divided and settled the land. We see the same two stages every morning — the immediate thank you of Modeh Ani, before we’ve even had time to think, and the deeper gratitude that develops through davening and reflection. From there comes a powerful model for emunah itself: it starts from something already planted inside us, and then grows as we understand it, think about it and make it part of the way we live.
