Speaker:

Amanda Paolicelli:

What's up, radiant icons?

2

:

And welcome back to Dare to be

Iconic, the podcast made for

3

:

icons daring to be themselves.

4

:

I'm your host, Amanda Paolicelli,

and I'm so excited you're here today.

5

:

But before we get into it, I dare

you to go to daretobeiconic.com

6

:

to join our radiant icon community.

7

:

And check out my Amazon storefront

linked in the show notes to check

8

:

out my journal, Break Up With The

Past, Fall In Love With The Future.

9

:

Now, I will die on the hill that

this is the year of the icon.

10

:

So how can you be an icon?

11

:

And what does the word iconic even mean?

12

:

Are you ready for your tea

time sesh, radiant icons?

13

:

Now let's get into the tea.

14

:

Let's start off with what

the word iconic means.

15

:

Now, in this context for Dare to

be Iconic, right, it's all about

16

:

your own unique version of iconic

and daring to be yourself and being

17

:

comfortable and confident in your skin.

18

:

So when I say the word iconic, I

genuinely mean living authentically

19

:

and true to you, and stumbling boldly.

20

:

So how can you be an icon?

21

:

You need to be okay with being imperfectly

iconic, so embracing your imperfections.

22

:

And I know we all don't like that.

23

:

Like literally owning up what

scares us and what we aren't,

24

:

like, perfect in is one of the most

terrifying things anyone can do.

25

:

But you know what?

26

:

Dare to be Iconic all started for me to

share my story in hopes that it resonates

27

:

with one of you radiant icons so that you

can dare to be iconic in your daily lives.

28

:

So let's talk about how I struggle

with imperfection and how it really

29

:

inspired this whole Dare to be Iconic

mindset and made me the icon I am today.

30

:

My whole life, I've been a perfectionist.

31

:

I have struggled with the concept

of being perfect and having to

32

:

adhere to these standards ever since

I was, like, little baby Amanda.

33

:

And a recent example would be when I

was filming my first podcast episode.

34

:

So it was honestly early this week, and

I was just so hard on myself because it

35

:

wasn't coming out the way I wanted it to.

36

:

It wasn't coming out perfectly, and I had

this idea in my mind of what it should be.

37

:

Like, it should be like all the other

self-improvement podcasts out there.

38

:

It needed to be X, Y, and Z way.

39

:

No.

40

:

The, the whole point of Dare to be

Iconic, right, is to be iconic in

41

:

my own unique way, and my version

of iconic isn't the same as everyone

42

:

else in the market, and that is okay.

43

:

So the way I'm gonna approach this

podcast is gonna be completely

44

:

different than so-and-so.

45

:

But I need to be okay with that

and normalize that just because

46

:

it isn't the way that someone else

is doing it doesn't mean it's not-

47

:

Perfect, in quotation marks, to me.

48

:

So I just need to

embrace my imperfections.

49

:

And I was really, really down on myself.

50

:

After I had finished recording, I

was in such a depressing, messy mood.

51

:

And my friend Danny would be so happy

that I said that, so shout out Danny.

52

:

Um, but I was just like, "I should quit.

53

:

I'm a failure.

54

:

This is gonna suck.

55

:

No one's gonna listen to me."

56

:

And you know what?

57

:

If this isn't their cup of

tea, that's okay, because I'm

58

:

being authentic to myself.

59

:

The way for me to be authentic to myself

is to just talk to the camera right

60

:

here in my bedroom on this mic like

I'm talking to one of my best friends.

61

:

Because that is the whole point

of Dare to be Iconic, is being

62

:

authentic to me, and that's how I

shine and thrive in my iconic-ness.

63

:

Let's talk about how to

embrace imperfection.

64

:

So how can you be imperfectly iconic?

65

:

This is a hard one for me specifically,

because I suck at giving myself grace.

66

:

I suck at being kind to myself.

67

:

I don't like admitting when I've failed.

68

:

I don't like to admit that I'm

imperfect, but we all are, you know?

69

:

So it shouldn't be something that

I'm ashamed of or embarrassed by,

70

:

but I always get in my head about it.

71

:

One way that we can be imperfectly

iconic and be the icons we are is

72

:

by embracing our imperfections and

by being kinder to ourselves and

73

:

giving ourselves grace and accepting

that we will fail, and that's okay.

74

:

Think of imperfections

as a painting, okay?

75

:

So every unsuspected stroke or

splatter makes up this beautiful,

76

:

messy canvas that is our lives.

77

:

Our lives shouldn't be perfect,

because life is imperfect.

78

:

And that's okay to embrace

those imperfections, because

79

:

that's what makes us iconic.

80

:

That's what makes us unique and

beautiful and the icons that we are.

81

:

So how do we get over that

hurdle of being imperfect?

82

:

We have to own them and say them out loud.

83

:

So I'm going to own my

imperfections right now.

84

:

Now, my therapist would

say I'm a queen at this.

85

:

I love to create unnecessary

chaos for myself.

86

:

I love it.

87

:

And as many times as my therapist

tells me, "Stop creating chaos

88

:

for yourself," I will continue to

create unnecessary chaos in my life.

89

:

That's just always gonna happen.

90

:

I will overthink certain situations

and play them multiple times in my head

91

:

because I just want them to be what?

92

:

Perfect.

93

:

Yes.

94

:

So I create this unnecessary

chaos in my life that I do

95

:

not need, but I do it anyway.

96

:

So I need to start giving myself

grace when I do it and start

97

:

recognizing those patterns.

98

:

And I am getting better at

it, but it is a struggle, so

99

:

that's an imperfection of mine.

100

:

Another one would be right after

the breakup, I carried the shame

101

:

that we talked about in episode one.

102

:

Like, I was just letting this

narrative that my ex wrote of me

103

:

dictate and define my entire narrative

and how I perceived myself and

104

:

how I moved and went about life.

105

:

I should have been kinder to myself.

106

:

This was the first time I

was getting my heart broken.

107

:

That is going to hurt, and I'm

not always gonna get it right.

108

:

I was in this transitional period,

and I wasn't giving myself the

109

:

grace and kindness that I deserve.

110

:

I needed to do that.

111

:

And another one that I can think of is

honestly right now with the podcast.

112

:

This is something that I have dreamed

of for two years now, and it's

113

:

finally coming to fruition, and that

is, like, the most exciting thing

114

:

I've ever done so far in my life.

115

:

That this dream is actually coming

true, and I'm, I'm creating and

116

:

I'm making it happen, but I'm

not always gonna get it right.

117

:

There is a learning curve with

anything new that you start, and

118

:

you're not always gonna be perfect.

119

:

I'm a CEO for the first time

in my life of my own company.

120

:

I'm not always gonna get

it right, and that is okay.

121

:

I have to accept that sometimes I'm

gonna fail, that sometimes it's not

122

:

gonna go the way that I want it to.

123

:

But it's happening the way it should.

124

:

So in turn of that, I need to

trust my path like I trust an Uber.

125

:

And I know that's a lot easier

said than done because trust is my

126

:

word for 2024, and we are, we are

going through it right now, y'all.

127

:

But we can talk about that later.

128

:

But we need to start trusting

our path, and that's within

129

:

embracing the imperfections

and being imperfectly iconic.

130

:

That's how you be an icon.

131

:

You need to stumble boldly, live

authentically, and dare to be iconic.

132

:

Dare to be your own

unique version of iconic.

133

:

Honestly, just appreciate the

beauty in the unexpected moments.

134

:

We have to keep trusting this

beautiful painting that we're creating.

135

:

Even if the strokes and the splatters

don't make sense at that particular

136

:

moment, that is okay, because

everything is happening for a reason.

137

:

So embrace it and trust the process.

138

:

Trust that path like it is an Uber.

139

:

I dare you to write out your

imperfections, cross them out, and

140

:

accompany the lesson that goes with it.
